I’m meeting up with four of my sorority sisters in LA, and we’re planning on sipping on some strawberry basil margs! Maybe some berry and brownie kebabs?! SO excited to spend some girl time with them:)
Erin says
Juice is one of the best snacks…it’s so perfect for 4-5pm when your body is tired and likely to confuse low energy with hunger. I start each day with a fresh juice, usually apples, collard greens, cucumber, celery, kiwi and lemon. Juice at juice bars is so expensive, while a juicer is pricey (around $300), it pays for itself when you can turn a couple of dollars of produce into a giant, delicious juice. So worth it
Tara@PNWRunner says
I am lying low this 4th of July. I have the 4th and 5th off. Stoked! Four day weekend.
Laura says
This year, I’m making an angel food cake (SO simple – 1 box of angel food cake mix with either 12 oz. seltzer – I like vanilla flavor, OR 1 can of crushed pineapple), topped with cool whip, fresh strawberries and blueberries. It’s easy, patriotic, light and delicious!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Oh some of those ideas are so great! I’ve done a sugar cookie/fruit pizza flag before. It was super yummy & fun!
We’re headed to spend time with my husband’s fam <3
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
All of those treats look DELISH. We’re having friends over for a cookout, then watching fireworks that night in our little town. I’m playing hostess with the mostess and already have most of my decorations up 🙂 Maaaaybe I love 4th of July a little too much. I’ll probably make a funfetti cake and do the typical white icing w/ strawberries and blueberries flag on top! Although, that s’more flag could be a close second!!!
Jennifer says
How can anyone choose between them. They all look fantastic. Chilli on a rainy night is the best!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Those cake pops looks great!!! I’d go for fun coloured brownies or cookies, always a winner!
Amber says
I’m going to a cookout at my sister in law’s house.
I’m always requested to bring a Chocolate Covered Strawberry pie when we have get togethers there but this year I’m also bringing some “skinny” sides!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Reheated chili is the BEST! I always think that it tastes way better the second or third day :).
Raquel says
I’m a vegetarian so I always bring a veggie option for myself and friends. I’m planning to take veggies for grilling and macaroni salad. Yum!
Lauren says
I would love to have the ability to make the flag cake but it would definitely go under the #pinterestfail website. It would probably be a polka dot cake.
Caitlin says
I made it 2 years ago and I am by NO means one of those creative people who can make those kind of things- but it was SO easy and turned out great! Much easier than it appears.
Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
Ohhh yum! Strawberries, bananas, and blueberries sound like BLISS right now!
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige says
Cute!! I just might be stealing the watermelon and feta idea, but I also really love the s’mores tray!
Jillienne@ChasingRaspberries says
Juice makes the best snack along side some almonds or pistachios! So tasty! The watermelon and feta flag is an interesting idea. I never thought to pair the two together.
Emily @ Sweet Summer Smiles says
Mmmm!! All of those 4th of July party snacks look great! I think the s’mores caught my eye the most though! I can never turn down chocolate!
Danielle says
I’m the smore’s gal. I love them!
Off topic, I finally tried a body pump class at my gym and I am loving it! I never thought I would do any sort of class like that let alone fall in love with it. It is so kicking my ass but that is good.
Beth says
I recently started to try body pump too due to always reading how much Julie loves it. I’m more of a solo runner and not much into group exercise but I really like body pump!
Kristi says
I was thinking of making red, white, and blue kabobs for the fourth. Angel Food cake, strawberries and blueberries. We’ll have to see since I do have to work on the fourth.
I wanted to grill my veggies, but with the rain and my grill won’t lighting I had to move it inside and broil my veggies instead. They were super yum!
Lisa says
These are such cute food ideas. I’m tempted to make them even though we clearly don’t celebrate Independence Day in Canada;)
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
I love the cupcakes and cake balls! So cute! If I bring something, it’ll probably be some sort of dessert. It’s by far the most fun dish to bring!
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny says
I’m addicted to fresh juice. I juice cleanse a few times a year and try to make a big thing to store in mason jars each week. It’s so much better than buying a carton of juice!
Ashley says
Great ideas! I need to make something! I love anything that involves a strawberry/ blueberry patriotic ness
GiGi Eats Celebrities says
I am so jealous of your rain! It hasn’t rained here in Los Angeles in AGES! AGES I TELL YOU! If Los Angeles were a person, it would be so dehydrated, it’d need to go to the hospital and be put on an IV to get some fluids. LOL! Uh, did that make sense?!
Maureen says
I’m doing a red, white & blue topped salad {strawberries, feta and blueberries}, then a red, white & blue dessert bowl {raspberries, coconut milk whipped cream, and blueberries}!
Danica @ It's Progression says
I haven’t decided what I’m bringing yet, other than a veggie tray. That fruit pizza you pictured looks really good though!!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Love the flag food! Last year I made a flag cake with a layer of pound cake and then red jello. I then topped it with cool whip and made a flag with strawberries and blueberries. It turned out awesome and tasted delicious!
Annie says
Hi Julie.. that chili looks good.. any chance you have a post with the recipe ???
Xai says
I’m thinking of doing some skinny red velvet cupcakes (recipe from hungry-girl) but instead of dying it red, I’m gonna do them blue. Top with white frosting and red sprinkles and voila!
Amanda @ A Latte Learn says
The s’mores flag is so fun! I’ve never seen that one before. I’m not sure what I want to bake for the 4th yet. I’m thinking strawberry and blueberry mini cheesecakes…or something with red, white, and blue sprinkles!
Kristin says
I think I’m going to make sweet potato/quinoa burgers…healthy and delicious!
sara shojaee says
When I think of 4th of July I always think of the desert our good family friend always made. It was a deep dish cake, starting with a thing layer of vanilla pudding (for moisture and sweetness), a layer of pound cake, a layer of cool whip + fruit (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, anything on sale!), then repeat! I’ve made the cake by subbing the butter in the pound cake for fat free greek yogurt and it was delicious!
Court Star @ StarSystemz says
The watermelon + feta with blueberries looks like something I will be making for our Fourth of July BBQ! Thanks for sharing! Love + Shine CourtStar
Sarah Smith @ Life {R+S} says
I love the fun flag food ideas! I had to make one tonight but I went with layers of Pepperoni and cheese as stripes and a bowl of black olives in the corner for stars! There is a picture on my instagram which you can get to through my blog!

HOW CUTE!! I love the flag food 🙂 We will be having a “Welcome Lunch” for our wedding party since our wedding is the day after. Because of timing, this year I am not making anything special (someone else is doing the food!) but these flag foods are great ideas for next year!
Carrie says
These are too clever! I’m sad I won’t be in the US for the 4th since it seems like a blast over there! Alas, I won’t be doing anything- no parties on this side of the pond!

I’m bringing red white and blue bread to our picnic, I cant wait!
Sarah @ A Refining Adventure says
That chili looks yummy! I plan to bring some mini cheesecake cookie bites. They are like thumbprint cookies, and the center is filled with a cream cheese mixture. I plan to dye the cookie part red and blue, and the center will be white. Fingers crossed it turns out like I picture it in my head! 🙂
Karen @ Runner Girl Eats says
We made those cupcakes last year! So delicious and patriotic. My favorite dish to bring to a 4th of July party is a trifle with strawberries and blueberries 🙂
Anna says
Now I’m hungry – all those July 4th treats look divine! I love the watermelon and feta combo – fruit and cheese make a killer match:)
Kelly says
I’m making an Angel Food Cake layered with red fruits and blue berries with yogurt and cool whip topping. I just posted the recipe/instructions on my blog – it is seriously the BEST patriotic dessert ever!
Faith@The Stirring Place says
I’m making a new recipe from Martha Stewart – it’s a no-bake cheesecake w berries on top. We’re going up to visit my parents. I’m most excited about my mom’s potato salad though – so darn good! Happy 4th!!!

We’ll be bringing Ina’s flag cake (via the Pioneer Woman- love both of them!). Beautiful and patriotic! Can’t wait for tomorow – QT with friends and remembering the founding of the greatest nation! #proudtobeanamerican
