Good morning to you!
How are you guys doing today? For those in the United States, I hope you’re feeling relaxed and rejuvenated after a long holiday weekend. I took the past three days of the weekend to unplug and totally immerse myself in family fun. Ryan and I arrived at my parents’ place in Jacksonville around dinnertime on Friday and didn’t leave until yesterday afternoon.
Our days were filled with hours and hours of beach time (lots of boogie-boarding!), home-cooked dinners (my mom did an awesome job preparing the fish my dad got on a spearfishing trip on Friday), Jazzercise, long breakfasts at local diners, a few sweaty workouts (I did this throwback 10 to 6 circuit workout on Saturday and Monday and forgot how much I love it) and pajama time on the couch.
The only photos any of us took over the weekend were of Sadie playing on the beach.
Big thanks to my sister Leslie and her husband Ross for sharing some of their photos of her with me! (They are much better photographers than I am and were the masterminds behind the awesome photos I shared from our trip to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands two years ago.)
Sadie absolutely loves the beach but isn’t the bravest when it comes to tackling waves.
She’ll jump off a boat and swim in the ocean for hours but jumping over big waves on the beach intimidates her quite a bit. She tends to stick to playing around in tide pools. Such a little goof!
Here she is hunting fish in a tide pool:
What a ferocious beast.
Before we arrived at my parents’ place on Friday, Ryan and I officially moved out of our rental home in Ocala. (The owners actually just sold it!)
I cannot believe we lived there for three years.
Ryan was born and raised in Florida and has never lived anywhere else. I have lived in Florida since 2003 and it’s kind of weird that we’re no longer Florida residents!
As we drove back to North Carolina last night, I told Ryan I had a great feeling inside. Of course I do not love living 6 hours away from my family, but something about our new home just feels right. I suppose that’s a great thing since we’re set to close on our house on Thursday! OH MY GOSH.
Question of the Morning
- Have you ever moved somewhere that instantly felt “just right” to you?
Michelle says
Aww – good luck with everything! I hope your closing goes smoothly on Thursday. Florida, and all of it’s fantastic and crazy peeps, will miss you 🙂
Julie says
Thanks Michelle!! Miss you guys!

Six hours isn’t too bad, you can drive it in a short day or fly direct to most places since CLT is a hub (I bet that’s a nice change from Ocala!) – congratulations on the move!

I got the “this just feels right” when I walked into the home we just bought in MD… It’s been a rough journey to get here (know anyone who’s looking for a great place in Modlothian, VA?) but this place fits us perfectly. Wishing you that same sense of “fit” as you move into your new place! XOXO

My boyfriend and I had been doing long distance between New Jersey and Texas for two years so I am grateful I moved to Austin this summer. I do remember the first time I came here it felt right for sure.

Your happy, “right”, upbeat emotions about your impending move into your new home are a great sign that it really IS the perfect move for you guys. I anticipate many, many, many happy years there! And 6 hours is doable, much better than across the country. You can visit there, they can visit you (and you can have fun being a tour guide of your new, wonderful city!), and you can meet in between or close to it.
House closings (the actual event of sitting in the office and signing paperwork as well as all the work required getting ready for that event, etc.) can be stressful, weird, and imperfect, so don’t let that deter the feelings you have right NOW – remember those, you know you’re on the right path! Things are on the up and up for you two! Congrats again!

Not to detract from the important topic of moving, but where did you get those super cute pants/capris? I have been looking for a pair just like that!

I moved out to San Francisco just over a year ago and I have the same feeling about living here. It’s just RIGHT! I love living here and can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Yes, the “just right” feeling happened to us when we discovered our current home about 14 years ago. It took a really long time to find a house that both my husband and I 100% loved.
