I am kind of geeking out over here this morning. I finally started playing around with Canva, a simple drag-and-drop design software. I typically use PicMonkey to create all of my workout images (check out this post for a tutorial: How To Create Workout Images in PicMonkey), but when I attended BlogFest last year, a few bloggers recommended Canva as another great design resource.
I used only the free design elements (like PicMonkey, you can pay to upgrade for access to a larger variety of features), but it was fun to click around in a new design space this morning.
Here’s the workout image I created:
I know it doesn’t look all that different from the PicMonkey images I frequently share on the blog, but access to new fonts and backgrounds made me a little giddy and I know I’ll be back to experiment further in Canva soon.
I just wanted to share a little bit more about Canva this morning for any bloggers out there who do not own fancy-schmancy design software who might be looking for a site that offers free design tools! Since I don’t own Photoshop or Lightroom, I rely fairly heavily on sites like PicMonkey (and now Canva!) and wanted to spread the word!
And if you’re not a blogger, I still think the site might interest you, as I’ve used free design sites for everything from Christmas cards to bridal shower invitations.
But, anyway, back to the workout…
The above image features a workout I created yesterday. A fellow personal trainer and I collaborated to take a small group of three women through a 60-minute total body training session. She was in charge of the warm up and upper body portion while I took care of lower body, core work and the cool down. Teamwork, baby!
Below you will find a breakdown of the exercises featured above…
Lower Body Exercises:
Core Exercises:
Get ready to get sweaty!! And, as always, rest as needed and listen to your body!

Ooh I’m excited to give Canva a try! I also use PicMonkey for pretty much all my design needs, but I’m always on the looking for new (free!) blogging tools. Thanks!
Julie says
Upon first use, I was pretty impressed with it! I’m not sure it has all the pictures/graphics that PicMonkey does, but overall I prefer the look of Canva! I am definitely planning to use both moving forward!
Erin says
Are you still doing core work at 26 weeks?? There’s a lot of confusing info out there about core work and diastasis recti. I’d love for you to do a post on that topic and/or pregnancy modifications 🙂
R says
Agreed. I have a five month old and have some diastasis so I’ve been staying away from crunches.
Julie says
Oooh I will definitely post about this! I am still doing core work but am absolutely modifying. Stay tuned!! I’ll try to have this up next week!

I am 2 years post baby and still have it… I’m pretty educated in the exercise field and looking back now, if there’s only one piece of advice I could give to first time moms… don’t push it! Even though i’m in the best shape of my life, i still deal with a separation enough that i can’t wear tight shirts/dresses without noticing it.. I jumped back too soon and probably worked out too hard while pre go and I SO wish someone would have told me 🙁
ANYWHOO… just a little passionate about it.. don’t mind me 🙂 A post about it would be great i’m sure!!

What kinds of snacks are you enjoying? I’m finding it hard to find appealing and healthyish snacks when they are needed sooo often!!

Thanks for sharing! I’m new to all of this blogging stuff, but I am loving it so far! I’ve been experimenting with PicMonkey but will definitely give Canva a try! And of course, the workout looks fabulous, so I’ll be trying that too 🙂
Amanda says
Hmm, I’ll have to give this a shot, just made some picmonkey workouts yesterday!
Britney says
I love Canva! I use it at work to create quick graphics for blog posts and social media sharing. It doesn’t have as many fonts as PicMonkey or free graphics, but it’s a user-friendly tool to create quick graphics!
Thank you for sharing this workout, too! I love seeing how you have stayed fit throughout your pregnancy. It gives me hope that one day (in the far future), I can do the same!
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned says
I can’t wait to try out canva now! Here lately I’ve been bored with picmonkey, so something new is exactly what i needed 🙂
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
Sweating just reading it. 😉
Have an amazing morning!
Clare @ Happy Eater says
I love Canva! I’ve been using it frequently (even on this morning’s post for a Broadway music workout playlist!) In some ways, it’s more flexible than PicMonkey once you’ve already begun working on the design. And sometimes I begin a design on Canva, save it, and then finish it up on PicMonkey if there’s a certain feature I’m looking for. Both websites are so much fun!
Ash Diamond says
Thanks for the reminder about CANVA! I just pinned this workout as it looks GREAT! Thanks!!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
I’ll have to check that out – pic monkey is great but another free resource is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Cortni @ YakkaFit says
This is so great, I have been using picmonkey for years..I even used it to make part of our wedding invites a few weeks ago! I’m excited to check out Canva, and to try this workout! Thanks!
Gretchen | Gretchruns says
I love the pictures you make! They look so clean and simple. I’m going to check out Canva for sure (as well as your workout 🙂 )
Kaycee says
I LOVE Canva! I’ve been able to make some quality graphics for a bunch of projects from the site, and I’m obsessed! Plus they have a lot of design inspiration [look at their templates for inspiration and they have a Design Stream where you can see other people’s creations!]. Plus they have fun free graphics and shapes and photos etc. I could go on and on haha 🙂
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
Oh thanks for sharing! I always wind up wondering if most bloggers use Photoshop or if they tap into other resources, seems like I need to give Canva a try!
Courtney says
I found I am pregnant 2 days ago and feel lost about what exercises, lunges, squats… Are ok for pregnant girls. Could you do a post on this? It would totally put me at ease! Sticking to walking and light weights for now.
Julie says
Yes!! And big, big congratulations to you! So exciting!

Thanks for sharing the workout! I’m trying really hard to find good quickie body weight workouts I can incorporate to a boxing routine I’m doing in my basement twice a week. Last night I did this workout that was circulating the social media world a few weeks ago. This guy had my quads begging for mercy, but I really liked that it was all choreographed to a single song. Somehow knowing that the third set of squat holds was at the end of the song that I could sing along to (in my most “I’m in Pain” voice) made it tolerable!
If you are interested – here’s the link to the video. https://youtu.be/UvJURs7nJRI
I’ll be adding your leg/core to tomorrow night’s routine, so THANKS!
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
This is great – I’ll definitely have to dive into Canva (as well as attending Blogfest? Argh. I dunnoooo…)
But also, this is a great article that I read about photo editing software for iPhones. Know you usually use a camera (pbfingers groupie?), but I’ve found that some of these apps work wonders! > http://gearpatrol.com/2015/03/26/7-best-photo-editing-apps/
Hayley @ Full of Life says
I rarely do leg workouts but have been told to start to strengthen the muscles around my (recovering injured) knee. This looks like a good one!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I’ll have to check out Canva! Like you, I’ve only ever used PicMonkey, but I think access to new and different fonts and designs would be a nice change sometimes. Love how your image turned out! Looks like a solid workout too!
Jamie says
Love this! Thank you for exposing me to Canva! I’m going to have to start using it ASAP! Great workout too! I completed this after my SoulCycle class this am and it was KILLER!

This is such a funny coincidence – I just used CANVA for the very first time last night ever! Because an entrepreneur I know recommended it on facebook yesterday, and I started fiddling with it last night! Anyhow, I too thought it was awesome, although getting things just right will take some work. (I was trying to create an etsy banner and couldn’t figure out how to put my own text boxes on a background, and a few other things.) But it seemed like with practice, it would be pretty friendly. Wow, Canva must be reaching their tipping point in terms of getting their name out there.
Laur says
Looks great! Is it possible to get ahold of your fellow PT for the upperbody portion??
Julie says
her portion was actually more traditional weight lifting (bicep curls superset with tricep extensions, etc.) — this workout is actually really similar: https://www.pbfingers.com/2012/10/03/upper-body-superset-workout/ hope this helps!!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I have actually used Canva for a while! It’s so much more versatile than Pic Monkey, and at some point everything on Pic Monkey starts to look the same 🙂 I could use a serious leg workout!
Kat @ Farmyard Fit says
I’ll have to give Canva a try!
This workout looks like a great quick one I can do this afternoon at home. Thanks for posting!
Sam says
I love when you post workouts! I’ve been using your workouts lately because our regular group fitness instructor is out on maternity leave. Your stuff is similar to what she would have us do and it’s been a great substitute. Thanks 🙂
Lindsey says
I love Canva and use it for everything! This workout is tough! Those turning jump squats are always a doozy! Love it!
Heather@hungryforbalance says
Great recommendation! I really need to improve my picture quality/variety.

So happy it was helpful to you, Jacklyn!! 🙂

This looks like a great workout to do during my lunch break. I’ll have to give it a try!
