Our weekend was low key and comprised of plenty of family time, a cookout with friends, church, yoga and lots of good food.
Saturday
Two weeks ago, Ryan and I took a Saturday morning yoga class together and told each other we wanted yoga to become a regular part of our weekends whenever possible because we both felt so darn good after the class. We made it a priority on Saturday morning and took a gentle flow class together that felt wonderful.
I think in the past I wanted yoga to be more of a workout for me and while I know it absolutely can be, I’m beginning to realize that in reality my favorite kind of yoga is more of a gentle flow and a deep stretch.
Saturday’s class was great and the stretch I felt through my hips and hamstrings felt fantastic after a week of sweaty workouts. Once the class was over, we scooped Chase up out of childcare before making our way to the grocery store to pick up everything we needed for a cookout with friends we planned to host in the late afternoon.
Once we got back home, we spent most of Chase’s naptime doing odds and ends around the house – cookout food prep, laundry, vacuuming, cleaning and all that super fun stuff.
(The brownies I’m holding are Annie’s chocolate chip cookie brownies from a box mix and they were so good. Highly recommended for a semi-homemade short cut dessert!)
Our friends arrived around 4:30 p.m. and we spent the next few hours munching on snacks, watching the little ones play and enjoying each others’ company.
Ryan threw burgers and Italian sausage on the grill a little before 6 p.m. and soon we were all digging into a delicious dinner that included roasted sweet potatoes, chopped Southwest salad, quinoa and more.
Everyone left when the toddlers started to get sleepy and within 10 minutes of our goodbyes, Chase was fast asleep in his crib. Apparently playing host tired him out!
Once Chase was in bed, Ryan and I spent the rest of our Saturday night curled up on the couch watching Big Bang Theory before climbing into bed and reading. (I finished In Farleigh Field and began reading The Secret Wife.) Saturday night was clearly wild and crazy because every member of the Fagan family was fast sleep by 10:30 p.m.
Sunday
Sunday morning began with smoothies! I did my best to recreate one of our favorite Clean Juice smoothies and blended frozen bananas and strawberries with hemp protein powder, honey, almond milk and almond butter.
It was pretty darn close to the real deal and we all (Chase included!) enjoyed the cold and creamy start to our day.
With smoothies in our bellies, we headed off to an early morning church service and really enjoyed the message.
Before making our way back home after church, Ryan, Chase and I popped into Old Navy because I wanted to grab a pair of my favorite jeggings for Chase in the next size up. I don’t put Chase in jeans very often because he’s still so tiny that most jeans swallow him up so when I found these unisex jeggings a few weeks ago that ended up fitting him well and felt super comfy, I knew I wanted to go back and get the next size up before he outgrows his current pair!
We made it back home in time for a quick lunch of Saturday’s cookout leftovers before Chase went down for his nap. Ryan then did some yard work outside with Sadie while I set up camp in my office and worked for a couple of hours. I also managed to do some meal planning and bake a batch of Paleo Blender Muffins before Chase was up and ready for action.
A a family walk over to a local park was next on our agenda!
Sadie seemed to enjoy the walk and Chase loved the playground break!
We made it back home around 5 p.m. and headed off to the grocery store to pick up food for the week. While we were out, we popped into Papa Murphy’s to grab a pizza to make at home for dinner. Neither Ryan nor I have ever tried Papa Murphy’s before and we ordered their specialty sausage and fennel pizza with red sauce instead of the creamy garlic sauce. (For those of you who may also be new to Papa Murphy’s, they prep the pizza in front of you but you take it home to bake it.)
Between the two of us (and some very minor help from Chase), we polished off the whole pizza and agreed we’d go back another time. The thin crust was still a little doughy which is just how we like it!
The rest of our evening included a little more playtime with Chase before it was time for pajamas, books and bed. Once Chase was asleep in his nursery, I did a little more food prep (veggie slicing + making overnight oats and a frittata) before joining Ryan on the couch for some Moose Tracks ice cream before bed.
I hope you all had a great weekend!!

Sounds like a perfect weekend!! Ours included much of the same 🙂 We joined the Y a few weeks ago and have also been doing a workout class together on Saturday mornings! I love starting the weekend off with a good workout!
Hope you enjoy your day!!

Thanks for the toddler jeans tip. My one year old has a build like Chase’s and “real pants” look funny on him!
Julie says
Yes! They all look like weird wide-leg pants that seem to swallow him right up!
Annie says
I’ll have to get our son some of those jeggings! Boys clothes are so uncomfortable compared to girls tights and dresses. I can’t wait for cookout weather here!
Christina @ montessoriishmom.com says
The picture of you and Chase outside is so sweet! That sounds like such a nice weekend 🙂
Our main weekend plans (kite festival) were cancelled due to rain, but the sun came out yesterday afternoon just in time for a long afternoon walk. Our little guy fell asleep in the stroller, which never happens anymore, so it was a nice long one.
Julie says
Glad you enjoyed your walk!! I cannot remember the last time Chase fell asleep in a stroller so I’m sure we would be the same way and would want to take advantage of that!!
Melissa says
Looks like such a great weekend and that frittata looks incredible!
Patricia @Sweet And Strong says
Love doing some yoga and stretching on the weekends, so nice you and Ryan did it together. And that pizza place sounds awesome! I love pizza nights at home, how fun to not have to worry about all the work but make fresh pizza in your oven.
Linz @ Itz Linz says
yum to that pizza! i had pizza friday night, mexican saturday night, and yogurt last night lol yesterday was definitely a cozy day over here too!
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Have you tried the jeans with the adjustable elastic band for him? I know those work well for small waisted toddlers. I bet the jeggings look so cute too!
Sounds like a great weekend! I’m dreaming of cookouts and outdoor time today as it’s 20 degrees in PA 🙁
Julie says
I honestly haven’t seen those yet! I’ll keep my eye out!
Amanda Foxworth says
I find the adjustable waist jeans at Osh Kosh and The Children’s Place, but I think Gymboree has them too!

I love the jacket you wore yesterday! i’m with you on yoga- i always wanted it to be a workout, but now I see the benefit of it just really getting in there and stretching me!
Vanessa | THE REAL LIFE says
I love a good weekend centered on good people and good food. Also: where’d you get that cute leather jacket?
Katie @ Live Half Full says
Sounds like a perfect weekend! I love seeing how much you guys get done during naptime- we are the same way. It’s totally go time. 🙂
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
That sounds like such a fun and relaxing weekend! Now I want a couch like that! Is it an L couch or does it have two sides? Looks perfect for entertaining!
Julie says
It’s an L couch. We had a two part couch in our last house and I was dying for a biiiiig couch that would allow me to stretch out when we moved. We LOVE this couch!!
Katelin King says
That pizza looks so good! I haven’t been to Papa Murphy’s in a few years, but I love their pizza. Recently my favorite local place closed. This may just inspire me to go pick up a pizza this week.
Julie says
Did you ever try their dessert pizzas? Not sure if they are worth giving a go or not next time we stop by!
Katelin King says
Yes! I’ve had the cinnamon one. They are good. If you have a huge sweet tooth it’s definitely worth trying.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Your yoga class sounds like it was great. I love the classes where I feel like I leave less tight than when I walked in. It feels so good!
The BBQ you guys hosted looks like it was fun.
Christen says
Sounds like a fun weekend! Nothing better than getting family and friends time!
Reenie says
I love Papa Murphy’s.
The HERB CHICKEN MEDITERRANEAN is my favorite (Olive Oil & Garlic, Herb Chicken, Spinach, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Feta, Zesty Herbs) [on the delite crust]
The CHICKEN GARLIC is my 2nd favorite ~ if you like/love garlic (Creamy Garlic Sauce, Chicken, Tomatoes, Green Onions, Herb & Cheese Blend)
🙂
Julie says
Ooh! We will keep those on our radar for next time!
Krista @ Gringita says
Looks like a beautiful weekend! This makes me miss yoga so much! I had started going to a studio that I really loved in Baltimore, but then I moved away and I haven’t been to yoga since. For me, the studio aspect is so important, I love dim lighting, essential oils and candles, incense burning, soothing music, and the soft slow voice of everyone who works there 🙂 so fun and such a relaxing way to start the weekend!
Bethany Thompson @Luluruns says
Sounds like a wonderful weekend and that pizza look fantastic!!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Isn’t it so nice when you leave church on Sunday and you realize you actually got something out of the message? (Not that you don’t always haha) But I mean, sometimes it just hits you right where you needed it 🙂 Glad you were able to find some good jeggings for Chase! Sweet little guy! Old Navy has the BEST stuff!!
Katherine says
Could you elaborate more on the hemp protein? Can you taste it and do you use it as a “protein powder” in your smoothies?
Julie says
Hi Katherine! It does add a little bit of a grainier texture to smoothies but I do not really taste it — I think the bananas did a good job of hiding the flavor! And yes, I use it just like I would use traditional protein powder.
Meghan Zook says
I made the Morning Glory muffins this weekend and brought them into my workplace today. They are a hit, thanks so much for sharing the recipe!
Looks like you had a lovely weekend!
Julie says
I am so glad you liked them!!! I know the recipe isn’t the easiest (I feel that way about any recipe that makes me clean my food processor when I’m done – haha!) but I think it’s SO worth the extra effort! <3
Kaitlyn @ Powered by Sass says
This got me craving a smoothie and yoga! What a fantastic weekend!

Frittata! I’m pretty sure I came looking for the frittata recipe a few weeks back and I for some reason I couldn’t find it so I’m really glad you shared the link again! 🙂
Stacey says
I made the frittata tonight with no onions and double pepper and it is SO GOOD!
