This year I’ve compiled a variety of gifts I hope will appeal to you as you think of little ways to show the mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, moms-to-be and mother figures in your life a little love!
As always, I tried to make the vast majority of the gift ideas in my Mother’s Day Gift Guide affordable and personal and hope you find something that calls to you!
Mother’s Day Gift Guide
- Spring/Summertime Slippers
I feel like I include slippers in a bunch of my gift guides but I cannot help myself because they always call to me and new cozy styles seem to debut all the time. I received a pair of slippers from my mom for my birthday this year that I absolutely love as a spring/summertime slipper since they have an open toe but they’re still fluffy and ridiculously comfy. (They’re also a much more affordable version of these $84 beauties!) I think a pair of seasonally-appropriate slippers for the mom who likes to walk around the house with something cozy on her feet at all times (me!) would make a great gift!
Favorite adorable spring/summertime slippers: Poof Ball Open Toe Slide Slipper / Fuzzy Open Toe Slippers / Ugg PomPom Slippers / Knotted Slide Slippers
- Plan An Activity with Mom
This is a gift idea inspired by Ryan! He planned a day at the North Carolina Zoo for our family last Mother’s Day and I loved every minute! It was so nice to be able to spend the day with my family – the two boys who made me a mama – and since experience gifts reign supreme in my eyes, I always find them the most memorable throughout the years. When I lived in the same town as my mom, my sister, dad and I all loved taking her out for a special Mother’s Day brunch but if you don’t live near family, planning a “rain check” activity for the next time you’re together (my mom loved our experience at AR Workshop) is a great idea, too!
- Succulent / Potted Plant
Flowers for Mother’s Day are always a lovely gesture and appreciated, but I think gifting Mom a plant that she can keep around for the long-haul is such a nice idea since it will add a little green to her home and last a lot longer than a bright bouquet of flowers. Apparently my computer thinks I’m in the market for succulents because these beautiful plants from Lula’s Garden popped up as an ad in my Facebook feed and I thought they were so pretty! I also love this potted succulent and candle gift box option!
- Gift Basket
(That pic is from the Houseguest Welcome Basket I featured on my blog before but you get the idea!)
I looove assembling gift baskets as gifts because they’re so easy to personalize. I’ve made my mom and mother-in-law gift baskets in the past that included everything from nail polish and body butter to framed pictures, favorite sweet treats and more.
Some additional gift basket ideas: Socks, a pretty water bottle (I love my HydroFlask but also have my eye on the new Bindle Bottle – it lets you keep your keys, lip balm, money and other small things at the bottom of the bottle!), stationary, candles, face masks, bath bombs, etc.
- Painting of Mom’s House (or the House She Grew Up In)
(Painting by SweetFaceAndCo)
My dad inspired this gift idea because he gave my mom a painting of the houses they’ve lived in together over the years in the past and it was such a wonderful gift that I know meant a lot to my mom. Thanks to Etsy, it’s not too hard to find artists who specialize in this type of art these days and so many of the Etsy artists are incredibly talented! Another fun idea? A customized family portrait! I love the watercolor portraits and think they are absolutely gorgeous.
- Updated Diaper Bag / Backpack
This is a gift idea for any new moms, moms of multiples or moms who are always carting their kid’s stuff all over the place! No matter how wonderful and amazing a diaper bag seems to be in the beginning, after months and years of use, they can get pretty weathered and worn. I think an updated diaper bag or a mom-friendly backpack is a great gift for a mom, especially since there’s no shortage of beautiful and wonderfully functional diaper bags and mom-friendly backpacks on the market these days.
I personally love a hybrid of the two – a diaper bag backpack! – and highly recommend my favorite JuJuBe BFF Legacy Bag that I fell in love with after I had Chase and the absolutely gorgeous Fawn Design bags. I first noticed the Fawn Design bags popping up all over Instagram and then after I heard rave reviews from two of my girlfriends who have them, I was so excited when the company reached out to send me both their mini and regular size diaper bags to use with our new baby. I’ve already been using the mini backpack since I don’t need to cart around as much stuff with a toddler and it’s fantastic! The perfect size for my wallet, phone, a spare diaper and wipes and snacks. I’m excited to put the full-size one to the test after our baby arrives!
Favorites: JuJuBe Legacy Diaper Bag / Fawn Design Diaper Bag + Mini Backpack / TwelveLittle Quilted Nylon Backpack / Marc Jacobs Mini Biker Backpack (I own and LOVE this bag! Perfect once little ones are out of the baby phase!)
I am such a sucker for personalized gifts and jewelry that acknowledges a mother’s child, children or grandchildren is high on my list of wonderful Mother’s Day gifts. There are so many options out there these days from initial jewelry to birthstone jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.
Favorites: Birth Stone Bangles / Kate Spade Initial Pendant / Personalized Skinny Gold Bar Necklace / Name Wrap Rings / Custom Name Ring / MOM Necklace / Cursive Name Ring
- Personalized Odds and Ends
While personalized jewelry is a popular favorite, there are so many options for wonderful personalized gifts out there these days! I love the idea of a personalized leather key chain, bookmark, cutting board, mug, etc. for a Mother’s Day surprise!
Additional Gift Ideas
- Pajamas (My personal favs: GapBody Joggers – so soft! / Nordstrom Moonlight Pajamas)
- Gift Certificate for a Spa Service
- Mom-Themed T-Shirt
- StitchFix Gift Card
- Funny Wine Bottle Labels for the New Mom
- Restaurant Gift Certificate for a Date Night/Girls Night at her favorite restaurant

Thank you so much for sharing this! I love all the new diaper bags – so functional and stylish…the backpack is just too convenient!
The succulent is so cute!

I love the idea of the paintings of all the different houses they’ve lived in! That is so special! I think I’m doing slippers this year!

I love all your ideas! I was just racking my brain to come up with something for my mom as a grandma gift. We’re having number two (surprise gender too!) a few days after Mother’s Day so it’s hard to get anything personalised since I don’t want to leave out her new, unnamed grandchild! I’m all about gifting house shoes (and pjs) too, so that’s a great option!

I LOVE the painting of your house idea! I am definitely putting that in my back pocket for Christmas!

Not for mother’s day exactly, but thank you for the link to the personalized wrap ring. We lost one of our precious kitties this weekend and I would love to have one made as a memorial/reminder.
Julie says
I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet cat. <3 I really hope the ring makes you smile when you think of him or her. Sending lots of love your way!

Awesome gift guide Julie! All such perfect ideas to show Mom some extra love. I especially liked the succulent & painting/picture idea though. The purses reminded me that I need a new purse myself! Have a great day 🙂

I went through a few diaper bags before settling on Fawn Design! I absolutely love it. I got these organizers (https://www.etsy.com/shop/JellyfishDB — looks like the shop is on a little break now while the owner is on maternity leave!) which made the bag even more functional!

Great ideas for anybody! On the slipper train: If anybody has a mom who has plantar fasciitis, the vionics fuzzy slippers are the best! Expensive, but they literally ELIMINATE all foot pain. Just throwing this out there in case anybody is suffering from this cruel foot problem and happens to stumble on this!
Even though I don’t need a diaper bag, I’m a sucker for bags with tons of compartments! And I love personalized jewelry (my mom passed away several years ago, and I still have some of her handwriting on various things. I have always wanted to get a necklace with her way-more-legible-than-mine handwriting.) Sidebar: what is it about moms that they all have nice handwriting?
Great list!

Such a good tip! I had plantar fasciitis years ago and it’s so painful. I hope you’re able to get some relief soon, Kim!! <3

The vionics slippers really, really, truly eliminated the foot pain (and sorry to hear that you had plantar fasciitis too!). That and wearing custom orthotics (doctor made – i.e. they make a mold of your foot, not Dr. Scholl’s, but a real M.D. with a co-pay and all that) really help. And wearing sneakers with both heel AND FOREFOOT cushioning (an option: Nike Vomero for SOME people, not all, and Asics Nimbus for all people. Some people also really love the expensive Hoka One. It didn’t work for me, but I could totally tell it WOULD work for other people). Tennis shoe manufacturers constantly forget to put cushioning in the forefoot, which drives me nuts. The ball of the foot needs help to truly eliminate pain. Anyhow, hopefully this helps you or someone who reads this!

Usually I’m pretty organized about upcoming holidays but mother’s day this year snuck up on me. Glad to see this post. Love the open-toe yet still cozy slippers (think that will be on my list!) I have to plan ahead because I don’t live in the same city as my mom – I wish I did!! – so I’m often mailing things.

I’d love to see pics and your thoughts on the fawn design mini. I’m a mom to 3 but really don’t carry much so the mini has always intrigued me!

I love handmade cards. Whenever anyone makes me a handmade card, I get really excited! I still have a few that my husband made for me in college 😉

I love the succulent and candle gift box idea! It will be perfect for my mom. Thank you for the idea, I have been trying to figure out what to get her for weeks!

Love love love my fawn design diaper bag. I have it in black, and it goes everywhere with me, even when I don’t have kids with me. Ha! The only problem is that so many of my friends have it that we get them mixed up! Actually, my one real complaint is that I wish they made the inside pockets elasticized or something at the top because they are just a bit too small to fit most bottles in.
