I love a filling breakfast and find that my morning meals that contain peanut butter are some of the most satisfying. Gotta love those healthy fats that stick to yo’ ribs!
Today’s breakfast was a peanut butter and peach sandwich that I prepared on an Arnold multi-grain sandwich thin.
I sprinkled the nut butter and peach slices with pumpkin pie spice to make it look extra purdy for you guys and also add a little bit o’ flava.
On the side I enjoyed several fresh strawberries.
I love how sweet strawberries are in the summer. They’re so touch-and-go in the winter, but summer berries are always perfectly ripe.
Workout
I woke up a little nervous about my workout this morning. After a week away from strength training, I had a feeling my usual 5:45 a.m. Wednesday BodyPump class would kick my little tooshie.
I was right… kind of. I figured I would struggle through the squats and lunges since I assumed my legs would feel fatigued after Sunday’s half marathon, but I actually found the bicep and should tracks the most challenging. Go figure!
It felt great to feel the burn again! Healthy Julie is back! We’ll just forget about that little bowl of Ben & Jerry’s peanut butter cup ice cream I had last night, mmm kay? 😉
Actually… Let’s talk about Ben & Jerry’s for a second.
In college Ryan and I fell in love with Ben & Jerry’s oatmeal cookie chunk ice cream.
It is seriously amazing. Sweet cinnamon ice cream with chunks of oatmeal cookies and a ribbon of fudge. It’s heaven in a pint.
Well, we haven’t been able to find this ice cream for years! The grocery store by Ryan’s old apartment is the only location we’ve ever seen carry it. We literally check every grocery store we visit for a pint of this stuff with no luck.
It’s quite the elusive little guy.
Questions of the Morning
- Have you ever had a product you love be discontinued or suddenly become very hard to find?
- Which cookie do you prefer: Oatmeal or chocolate chip?
Emily says
Why can’t I have oatmeal chocolate chip? 🙂
That’s a toughie – but I’d go with chocolate chip.
peanutbutterfingers says
haha that’s what makes it hard. oatmeal choc. chip is my fav too! 🙂
Meg says
Oh my goodness, NO WAY! That was my FAVORITE Ben and Jerry’s flavor! It’s RIDICULOUS how good that stuff is, and my grocery store hasn’t had it in stock for years 🙁 they’ve replaced most flavors with the new “mini” cups of Ben and Jerry’s with not much variety…not cool. Haha, I love how we rant about ice cream 😉 And oh, I am oatmeal cookie ALL the way! Amen sister!
Glad you had a kick-butt workout and a sweeeet breakfast 😀 Enjoy your day Julie!
peanutbutterfingers says
glad we’re not alone!!! BRING BACK oatmeal cookie chunk!!!
Marilou says
Oatmeal Chocolate Chips! 🙂
But I’d rather have a soft gooey oatmeal cookie than a plain boring chocolate chips one 🙂
I used to always buy a Fondue Broth (random I know), and it’s now impossible to find. It’s so crazy that everyone I know always look for it in random grocery stores hehe
Amy @VitaminAmy says
I love oatmeal cookies! I can add so many nuts, seeds and other treats to it 🙂 Peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies are at the top of my list as well!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
this is super lame compared to great ice cream, but my favorite candy EVER is sour punch straw BITES…and i can’t find them anywhere!!! whenever i do i freak out though. i figure a once-a-year habit isn’t too bad 🙂
AllieNic (Frisky Lemon) says
I actually worked at the Ben & Jerry’s factory as a tour guide around the time that they started/ stopped making Oatmeal cookie Chunk. That flavor was one of their “Limited Batch” flavors, meaning they make it for 6 months and then stop making it. There was so much protest over the disappearance of Oatmeal Cookie Chunk that they brought it back as a full-time flavor. It’s one of my favorite too!
They actually have a Flavor Graveyard at the factory where they make funny little graves for all of the retired (dead flavors) like Peanut Butter and Jelly and White Russian.
peanutbutterfingers says
so interesting!!! thanks for sharing. what a wealth of ben & jerry’s knowledge!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
The Flavor Graveyard was so cute! I have pictures of it back on my blog – I think it was actually the first post I wrote, so it might be scary! lol 🙂
Chicago Cuisine Critique says
Big chocolate cookie fan! However, oatmeal cookies can have their moments with me too. I’m sure that ice cream was tasty. Ben & Jerry flavors usually are. 🙂
Kristin says
they have oatmeal cookie chunk at my grocery store! is ice cream mail-able?
Shanna, like Banana says
How about Oatmeal Chocolate Chip combined? That’s one of my go-to cookie recipes, but I also throw in butterscotch chips for good measure.
As for the lost product…Starbucks’s Maple Macchiatto..when they discontinued it, I sent them letters for THREE years pleading to bring it back!
pursuitofhealthfulness says
My favorite kind of cookie is oatmeal chocolate chip, so I guess that makes me a cheater.
Laura says
Kashi waffles are no where to be found!!! At least in PA, where I’m from. These were my absolute fave morning breakfast. Any luck elsewhere?
Kelly says
Yes, Cool Ranch Baked Doritos. They still make the nacho cheese ones but cool ranch are no where to be found. I love the choc chip cookie ben and jerrys
jessica says
Some stores still have the Oatmeal Cookie Chunk!! It is really hard to find though. My new favorite is their new flavor Milk & Cookies. Think Cookies n Cream meet Chocolate Chip Cookie Douhgh… AMAZING! 🙂
tanyasdailyproductreviews says
red velvet frozen yougurt was discontinued
Courtney @ Ice Cream & Wine says
Chocolate chips IN my oatmeal cookie! That ice cream sounds amazing – I’ll be on the lookout for it now! 🙂
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says
I was in love with crispy M&Ms and they discontinued those. I wish they at least gave crispy M&M devotees a chance to stockpile the candy before they disappeared from stores!
Oh, and I’m chocolate chip cookies all the way.
Amanda-The Nutritionist Reviews says
This item is not healthy but they just continued Pringles onion blossom chips and my husband is sad! I like chocolate chip cookies (made with applesauce of course)!
Katie says
Hello !
omg ben and jerrys is the best ever!!
My fave flavors are
Sweet Cream and Cookies
Imagine Whirled Peace and they had a Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road Special Edition one that I loved!
My fiance and I searched everywhere for it a year ago when we first heard it was coming out, and we finally found it at a ben and jerrys icecream shop while on vacation in FLorida, we loved it! We were so happy to find it too, I was searching everywhere for it! I came to find out, only certain cites got it, so thats why I couldnt find it!
Ahhhhhhhhhh I love icecream!!
njk123 says
I definately prefer Oatmeal Chocolate Chip…not either-or. Oatmeal in the cookies makes them a bit more filling and satisfying. Since you’re such a peanut butter nut…put some peanut butter in the Oatmeal Choc. Chip cookies and you’re set.
It seems that most of my favorite items end up discontinued. It’s the same with some of my favorite TV shows. The best ones have ended after a season or two.
Sarah says
normally i don’t like oatmeal cookies (unless they have choc chips too!) but that ice cream looks great. i’ll have to look out for it and report to you if i find it. 🙂 but in HS i loved this off-brand of reese’s pb cups and now they don’t make them anymore. at least i’ve never seen them since then… sad news.
thefitbridesmaid says
For a while I could never find peanut butter m&m’s (peanut butter twix are still few and far between). But now PB m&m’s are all over!
I definitely agree with oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I love the Neiman Marcus $250 cookie recipe. It’s my go to chocolate chip cookie recipe.
Ally @ Sweet & Savory says
I’ll combine the two for oatmeal chocolate chip!
lisaou11 says
I prefer chocolate chip if its a fresh out of the oven cookie…if not, then oatmeal!
Christina @ Food.Fun.Fabulous says
oatmeal or chocolate chip? that’s such a hard decision! it really depends on my mood 🙂
ezzie says
Oatmeal cookies all the way! 🙂 I do love a good ol’ choco chip cookie, but I LOVE the chewy-ness of a fresh baked oatmeal cookie ^-^
& I used to ADORE these Fruit-A-Freeze coconut pops, but I can’t find them anywhere anymore! Walmart used to have them, and those icecream pops were staples at slumber parties for me and my friends, but they are nowhere to be found 🙁
Melissa says
It’s funny you mention products that are no longer available where you live. I actually had a recent similar experience with my beloved cereal! Last summer, I became obsessed with Quaker Crunchy Corn Bran cereal, and then stopped eating it for a while. A couple weeks ago, I decided I’d pick up a box. Well, low and behold, no longer were any of my local area grocery stores or Target carrying it! Frantic, I hurried on over to Quaker’s website and accessed their product locator tool and was able to locate it at a grocery store nearly an hour away! Sure enough, I trekked the distance, and am happy to report, the cereal peacefully sits in my cabinet, waiting for me each morning!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Definitely an oatmeal cookie girl! Kelloggs had a tiger paw cereal that I loved, but they discontinued it, My sisters and I used to stock up on it when we saw it and now it is just gone. I guess the 4 of us eating it was not enough for them to produce it any more!
Heather says
I love oatmeal chocolate chip! I actually had that cinnamon oatmeal ben & Jerrys ice cream a few months ago and I haven’t been able to find it since! The all time best Ben & jerrys ice cream is phish food!! And they actually have a light version of it (but the regular phish food is sloop much better!)
There is one snack that I love that I can only find at christmas time – they are chocolate covered pretzels with peanut butter in the middle. I think Synders makes them. They are so so do delicious!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
That B&J flavor sounds great, but I haven’t seen in anywhere =[
Amber K says
Yes! Food Should Taste Good chips ~ They discontinued the Potato & Chive and I was so sad! They have a ton of other flavors, but those were my absolute FAVE!
I love oatmeal, but for some reason I really don’t like oatmeal cookies.
MASHley says
ash – typically i prefer chocolate chip. especially because most oatmeal cookies have raisins which i hate. however the oatmeal cookie chunk is my favorite B&J flavor too. my fiance and i even snuck it (and of course a couple of spoons) into a movie for some some ice creamy goodness
hookedonhealth says
mmmmmmm that ice cream DOES look delicious!
And yes I used to be able to get this Greek Yogurt and honey pre-packaged cup at Starbuck’s which was so convenient on days when I didn’t have time to make breaky, but now they don’t serve it anymore! 🙁
I don’t know why, but I haven’t seen it at any Starbuck’s for at least a year now. But that is ok, I make pre-packaged ones from home now, which is cheaper and healthier as I can control how much honey/yogurt I want. yay!
As for the cookie choice, it is a tie! It depends on what kind of mood I guess, but I love both 😛
Vanessa says
Oatmeal Cookie Chunk is the BEST! They have it at a few of the higher end grocery stores around my area, so I guess I’m lucky!
The first flavor I ever tried from Ben & Jerry’s was Coconut Cream Pie — SERIOUSLY delicious. Swirls of coconut, whipped cream and pie crust! I searched for it a few months later only to find out that it’s now in the Ben & Jerry’s “graveyard.” How they could retire such an awesome flavor, I’ll never know.
Cess says
check this out!
http://www.benjerry.com/flavors/our-flavors/#product_id=28 they have a store loactor
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Luckilly most of my favorite foods are still in productions. And I gotta go with chocolate chip cookies. Although I do love a good Oatmeal Raisin cookie..
Sara says
Kashi Mighty Bites cereal. My kids and I both loved it.
I don’t think I can choose between chocolate chip and oatmeal. I like both, but only like oatmeal if there are no raisins. Cooked raisins gross me out.
Since I know you are a huge greek yogurt fan, I wanted to mention a tasty addition I tried this morning. With my yogurt and touch of agave nectar, I added fresh strawberries and toasted, sliced almonds. Spending the extra minute toasting the almonds took this breakfast over the top. It was amazing!
Angela says
I’ve never seen that flavor – it looks incredible! Oatmeal raisin cookies are definitely my preference, they’re so moist and chewy. Yum. I know I would love that B&J!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
Ahhhhhh! That is my FAVORITE B&J flavor!! I tried it back in April when Jay and I went on a tour of the factory, but I can’t find it anywhere either. Hershey’s makes an oatmeal cookie ice cream that is actually just as, if not better though, and I have access to it (which is scary).
I like oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (with banana)! 😉
Amy says
That was my favorite ice cream flavor too! I probably bought one a week until they stopped carrying it in my store. Now, I have to go for the Chocolate Fudge Brownie since my store is lame and carries minimal flavors.
Emily says
Love that ben & jerrys flavor! Last time I was at the actual Ben & Jerrys ice cream they had it! It disappeared for a while but I’ve been able to find it in grocery stores for the past year or so… delish!
Tyler says
I totally forgot about that ice cream flavor! I used to be one of my favorites! I haven’t seen it in years, but One Sweet Whirled is sort of similar and equally delicious. It has sweet cream ice cream with caramel swirls, toffee coffee pieces, and chocolate peace signs! And you can sprinkle cinnamon on it to make it extra good 🙂
Kelly says
Oatmeal cookies hands down!!!
Babs says
We weren’t allowed to have much soda growing up, but then I went nuts on soda in high school, college, and after. I’m happy to say I’ve been soda-free since Jan! Though I have had a few zevia’s over the months. My kids will grow up eating lots of ethnic foods and knowing more about nutrition than I ever did 🙂 I think our goal should be to give more to our kids than we had.
Jenna says
Ben and jerrys have sooo many yummy flavs!!
Brittany says
Oatmeal Cookie Chunk is my FAVORITE B&J’s flavor. (Despite the use of the word “chunk” which is my absolute least favorite word.) I always look for it at Wawa, and have occasionally been veryyy lucky to find it.
Caroline says
Oatmeal Cookie Chunk is by far the best B&J flavor and one of my FAVORITE ice cream flavors! I also made the discovery several years back in college with my roommate. It was initially limited edition and was brought back by popular demand. I think I have a picture of my roommate holding one of the pints that had the”back by popular demand” copy on it, since with all her many emails it may be thanks to her it returned. ; )
I always find myself looking for it at grocery stores. I’m actually kind of glad it’s hard to find – it makes it that much more enjoyable when I’m unable to indulge in a bowl.
Nathan Miller says
Wow…the Nacho Cheese ITs….remember they were triangle instead of squre…greatest cheese it ever made…now…no where to be found
Sara says
Ohh man.. My favorite Ben and Jerry’s flavor is called “mint chocolate cookie” or something like that.. mint ice cream with oreo type cookies.. sooo amazing! I can only find it every once in a while, and the stores aren’t even consistent.. breaks my heart! haha.
Jessie says
I didn’t know there were others out there who were also mourning the loss of Oatmeal Cookie Chunk! It’s been years since we’ve been able to get it, but my husband still looks almost every time we grocery shop to see if somehow, magically it’s back. Oh, how I miss it!
