Though my parents already had to head back home, we made the most of their short visit and are looking forward to a good weekend ahead. We don’t have any concrete plans on the agenda but I’m sure we’ll fill our days with plenty of time outside and hopefully some festive fall activities.
Now, in keeping with Friday tradition on the blog, let’s dive into this week’s roundup of favorites, shall we? As always, I’d love to hear about something making you smile this week in the comments section as well. Have a good weekend, my friends!
Things I’m Loving Friday

Mae and Pop’s Visit
Though it was a relatively quick one, we made the most of my parents’ mid-week visit this week! They arrived on Monday afternoon and left first thing this morning but the past few days with Mae and Pop were a whirlwind of family fun! My parents didn’t miss a beat and came ready to play with the boys and ready to help which was so appreciated. This was also my dad’s first time meeting Rhett and it was wonderful to see him with his youngest grandchild. And you better believe Chase made the most of Pop’s offers to go on afternoon bike rides to hunt for butterflies!
My mom is just about the most helpful human on the planet and blew us away yet again when she applied some of her sewing talents to Chase’s Halloween costume during their visit. I cannot wait to show you guys Chase’s costume because it was all his idea and my mom was amazing and helped bring it to life. Let’s just say lots of little plastic bugs are involved! Any guesses?
We were blessed with sunny weather and temperatures in the mid-70s during my parents’ stay and spent lots of time outside. We also managed to make it over to Birkdale Village for dinner and ice cream with my father-in-law one night which made Wednesday night feel like Friday night. The extra company made the week fly by and we’re missing everyone already! Thankfully we have our annual family mountain trip on the agenda the first week of November so we have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Honest Beauty CC Cream with Vitamin C and SPF 30
This was an impulse addition to my latest Honest Company diaper subscription delivery and I instantly loved it. I ordered it because I wanted a lightweight tinted moisturizer that would provide some coverage and also offer non-chemical SPF protection with vitamin C. This one checked all the boxes and I adore the dewy finish. It seems to brighten my skin and give it a smoother, more evenly toned appearance and feels lovely when it is applied. This CC cream has quickly become a daily staple for me!

Dream Home Makeover on Netflix
This show! Oh man do I LOVE it!! I began streaming it while I was working on some backend blog stuff last weekend and quickly fell in love with the husband-wife duo and their adorable kids. Shea and Syd founded Studio McGee, an interior design company with an aesthetic I absolutely adore, and after discovering their style on Instagram, I couldn’t wait to check out their Netflix show when it debuted last weekend. They’re incredibly likeable — I love Shea’s eye for design and her fashion sense is an added bonus while Syd’s humor made me laugh out loud a few times — and the rooms Shea designs are nothing short of stunning. I am psyched to hear Dream Home Makeover was picked up for a second season in 2021!

Banza Pizza (Made with Chickpeas!)
Earlier this week, I received a delivery from Banza featuring an assortment of their frozen pizzas. We had plans to eat lentil dal for dinner when they arrived but pizza sounded great, too, so we revised our plans and made it a pizza + soup night. The pizza got rave reviews from everyone! My parents, Ryan and I all agreed you couldn’t tell the crust was made primarily with chickpeas and we loved the slightly doughy crust with a crispy exterior. The best part? Both of our boys gobbled it down, too! They’re pizza fiends and gave the four cheese pizza two enthusiastic thumbs up. We will absolutely be buying these frozen pizzas again in the future!

Question of the Day
What is one thing that made you smile this week?
Maureen says
I’ve been dying to watch that show! I started the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann already and I can’t watch two shows at once. Thank you for sharing the pizza! A dear friend of mine is gluten free so I try to stock my kitchen with good gluten free items so I’ll need to check out that option.
Book suggestion for you – Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. My aunt and grandma suggested it to me and I finished it this week. So good! To quote my grandma “One of the best books I’ve read and it should be required reading”

thank you!!!

So excited for the Honest cc cream suggestion! I generally use Beauty Counter and it isn’t in the budget right now, I appreciate a slightly cheaper but still safe alternative.
Julie says
I actually like this one even better than the beautycounter skin tint that I feel like is the closest thing to this product — and yay for being cheaper!
Josie says
I’m excited for Chase’s costume! My son is super into dinosaurs and when he couldn’t pick a dinosaur to be for Halloween, we were able to settle on a Paleontologist. I think I’m raising Ross from friends! haha
Thanks for the Honest CC suggestion. I’ve been looking for something to quickly put on instead of foundation.
Julie says
so cute!!! love that costume idea!! <3
Valerie says
Did not know Honest Co made makeup! What shade do you wear? I think im close to you.
Julie says
i wear the “light” shade!
Brittany says
My guess is Chase has a creature man costume. I’m picturing a vest with a bunch of plastic bugs glued onto it and maybe a net?
Joann says
I didn’t know Banza made pizza. I think they’re pasta is good, I’ll have to try it!
Julie says
bingo!! 🙂

What are your Halloween plans? Not specifically, but generally. I think we are sitting this year out as far as trick or treating goes for our 4 year old, and am always curious what others are doing.
Julie says
we currently just have plans to go to a friend’s house for some outside fun on friday night so the kids can be in costumes together — i think we may trick-or-treat but i’m also on the fence about that right now.

what made me smile today?
Due to a pre-retirement trip with hubby (he finally retires in December (2 wks in Quebec) and needing to self-quarantine for 2 weeks as we were in what turned into a red zone …. I…..finally……
GOT TO HUG MY DAD TODAY for the first time since August.
…he is 94 and utterly lovingly squishable.
