(Ah! I’m wearing shorts!)
Ryan, Sadie and I are packing in my car and heading south because we have a very important activity on the agenda for this evening…
OUR WEDDING FOOD TASTING!
As Jessie Spano would say, “I’m so excited! I’m so excited!” (Side note: Why is this the second time I’m referencing Jessie Spano on my blog in less than a month???)
I cannot explain to you how excited Ryan and I are for this event.
I know it’s common for most grooms to look forward to this activity and Ryan is no exception. The two of us are basically eating machines and have been asking about the cake tasting since we booked our venue back in November.
Tonight we finally get to try the food! This evening Ryan and I have plans with our mothers to attend our wedding food tasting at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club, where we’ll be getting married in less than two and a half months.
(The above picture is of the Tea Garden, where our ceremony will be held. Our reception will be indoors in a ballroom.)
Prior to our tasting we were asked to select several items off the menu to sample, including four hors d’oeuvres (aka the hardest word to spell in the entire world), two appetizers, two salads, three entrees and three wedding cake flavors.
Tonight we will be trying the following items:
Hors d’oeuvres
- Beef and artichoke bruschetta, olive aioli
- Citrus shrimp, horseradish aioli
- Ricotta fritter, minted tomato sauce
- Port roasted duck, raspberry wonton
Appetizers
- Black pepper smoked shrimp, exotic fruit, avocado salad
- Pan seared lump crab cake, sweet corn puree, smoked bacon-tomato relish
Salads
- Baby greens with maple roasted pears, Point Reyes bleu cheese, spiced pecans & champagne vinaigrette (we’re asking for a different cheese in place of the bleu)
- Boston bibb with raspberries, brie fondant crostini & port vinaigrette
Entrees
- Herb roasted chicken breast & seared diver scallop with lemon orzo
- Grilled filet & seared sea bass, Parmesan spinach soufflé, pesto green beans, tomato ragout
- Grilled filet & butter poached lobster, spinach Gruyere soufflé, merlot demi
Cake
- Red velvet cake
- Two “surprise us” cakes
I’m pretty sure we’ll be calling in our second stomachs to get through these delicious dishes tonight!

Question of the Afternoon
What is the single best dish you’ve ever had at a wedding?
I had the most delicious gnocchi in the world at a wedding Ryan and I attended last May. It was fantastic!
Jessica @ How Sweet says
OH yum. I want to come to your wedding. Consider that me inviting myself!
peanutbutterfingers says
i think i need 2… one for family+friends & one for the blog world. oooh to have bazillions of dollars…
Rachel says
Let’s crash it together!!! (Julie, I want the lobster. Fair warning.)
🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
done! bring your green hat! 😉
Erin says
Yay! Enjoy your food tasting. I got married this past April. My now husband and I went to our food tasting on our lunch hour and were SOOOOO excited…and they showed us PHOTOS of the food instead! How much of a let down is that?!
peanutbutterfingers says
i would cry. ryan would throw things. it would be ugly.
Meg says
If that happens, you can get an army of your blog friends to throw things too 😉
Stepf says
I love the SBTB reference. I’m so, I’m so… scared!
peanutbutterfingers says
hahaha glad to see i’m not the only one still lovin’ saved by the bell. 😉
savoringsarah says
I say there is no reason NOT to reference anything Saved by the Bell related! Who doesn’t have fond memories of that show!!
Your guests are going to be so lucky- what an incredible assortment of dishes you have to choose from!!!! WOW! I think when I get married, picking the food will by my favorite part of the planning process 🙂 Have so much fun!
I haven’t been to many weddings, but I think the best dish I have had was at my boyfriends sisters wedding. She, her mom, and their other sister catered the whole thing themselves for 500 people!!!! They made the most amazing roasted veggie pasta dish (fall wedding). Incredible!
njk123 says
I would probably have to say the best food I’ve had at a wedding was at my own! I had a maple glazed salmon…YUM!
Sounds like you will be having something wonderful at yours…regardless of which of those choices you pick! Have fun this weekend!
40apples says
That menu already looks AMAZING!!
The best thing I’ve had at a wedding was a fantastic grilled corn salad – kind of Mexican-style with chopped tomato, cotija cheese, lime juice – served family style. The corn was so fresh and super-sweet, it was delicious.
Have a GREAT time at the tasting!!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
Wow, I wish we could trade weekends! I’m sure you’re going to have so much fun! The last wedding I went to had salmon and it was amazing!
P.S. I love your Vera Bradley bag!

Kristy at kristyruns.com says
I hope you’re not totally like Jessie Spano: so excited AND scared! 😉 I think the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches at our wedding were out of control awesome! Maybe I’m bias though. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
my stomach is scared. it knows what’s about to come. 😉
Chicago Cuisine Critique says
That menu sounds awesome!!! Can’t wait to hear how it turns out. I hope you take pics!

Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness says
Okay, you guys have picked out the most decadent, dream wedding menu I could think of! Everything sounds elegant so elegant. I will look forward to your recap!
And LOL – the shorts thing. I hate wearing shorts as well!
Tina says
I am invited right? I don’t want to hear any lame excuse about my invite getting lost in the mail either! 😉
That menu looks like the holy grail of delicious. I’m jealous of your night. Happy food coma! 😀
Amber K says
I have never been to a wedding where there were “dishes.” Every single one I have been to has been buffet-style, as was my own. There was no tasting for my wedding (although it sounds like fun!)
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says
Thanks to Jessie I can’t say I’m so excited without following it with, I’m so scared, Zach. Ha ha.
The wedding I just went to last weekend had an appetizer of butternut squash ravioli in a curry sauce. Out of this world.
Sarah says
enjoy! looks so fun! and yummy 🙂
lowandbhold says
Oooh have fun! I would be so excited too!
Tia @ Birch Courage says
That place looks heavenly! So gorgeous! Menu sounds delicous. Oddly enough the best thing I’ve ever had at a wedding was the most fabulous mushroom soup! My boyfriend doesn’t even like mushrooms and he adored it!
Man I miss Saved By The Bell LOL!
kiera says
my dad lives just a few block from the Vinoy and ever since going there I have dreamed of having my wedding there someday! so exiciting.
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
Oooooo how FUN! you guys are going to have a BLAST at your tasting. Jay and I left so incredibly STUFFED from ours! The night we were there, we actually got interviewed by our local news station because the venue we had chosen was donating money from all of their meals sold to charity. We went for a food tasting, and left having a little taste of fame! 😉
Mellissa says
Wedding food is notorious for being horrible so I hope it is good for you guys! We had amazing fresh, local and organic food at our wedding, it helps when you get married at a villa in Italy.
katecooks says
that looks like so much fun! hopefully you guys are taking lots of pictures 🙂 sounds like a pretty fancy meal, you have a lot of lucky guests!!
Laura says
So exciting! have fun tasting away!
I’ll have to say the food at my brother’s wedding this past July was incredible! The hit of the night was the lobster quesedilla and halibut siviche (sp?) appitizers. Mmmmmm
Meg says
Oh goodness how FUN! I bet you two are excited! I hope you enjoy every dish – it might be a little hard to pick 😉 and make sure you take a few extra bites for the blogworld, we wouldn’t wanna miss out.
Can’t wait to hear ALL about it. My brother had this amazing salmon dish at his wedding with a lemon-butter cream sauce…oh to die for. Yum!
ENJOY IT!
Meg
Jean@RoastedRootsandPumpkinSpice says
That’s a pretty great menu. I especially love all the seafood options.
Have a great time with the tasting! I feel like that’s the best part of wedding planning.
Sara says
What a fun weekend you guys are going to have! I can’t remember the best food I’ve had at a wedding…but the cake at ours was pretty good and I had some delicious butternut squash ravioli at the last wedding I went to.
Katie says
That sounds so much fun! I would be looking forward to the food tasting too because it’s all gonna be reallyyy good! Take tons of pics I want to see all the options, hehe! And the cake is always the best part of the wedding food to me.
marci says
please tell me what the brand of your bags is, I really like it.
peanutbutterfingers says
thanks! it’s vera bradley & the color pattern is “bermuda blue.”
Shanna, like Banana says
Your venue looks perfect! I love it and it will be GORGEOUS!
healthifiedhaven says
That menu sounds delicious; it’s making my mouth water. I have never been to a sit down dinner style wedding, only buffet style. And nothing is ever over the top memorable.
Christina @ Food.Fun.Fabulous says
almost all of the weddings I’ve been too I’ve also been a part of the bridal party and end up not eating much food at all. once I even missed out on my piece of the wedding cake!
lo says
omg you are going to have a blast! this planning is so exciting! I love weddings! yours is going to be spectacular I know it! Honestly I read your blog, over so many others, because you are young, fun, and manage time so well!
xoxo

peanutbutterfingers says
thank you so much! 🙂
Monique@She's Going The Distance says
How exciting!! You’re getting so much closer 🙂 And I love testing food haha.
Being on the senior cabinet, I got to taste and select the food we had for prom. It was awesome. I imagine wedding planning is not even in the same vein haha 🙂
Tehsina says
you look amazing in your shorts!
have fun food testing =)
Laurel says
Lobster Tail and filet…at the same dinner!
SaraRM says
Ok so ive been a lurker for a while and am coming out of hiding for this post….
First of all, loved your outfit! You rocked those shorts 🙂
And second my favorite wedding food was at my own wedding. It started as a joke but I suprised the husb with passed mini corndogs. They were served in martini glasses with swirls of mustard and ketchup! It was done as classy as mini corndogs could be 😉 and the guests LOVED LOVED it. They still talk about it 2 years later and were a bigger hit then the shrimp cocktail and ahi tuna. Go figure…
Barbara says
Not the hardest to spell- it’s the hardest to pronounce! Just yesterday, while in line @ a grocery store, I heard the ‘ever so popular’ pronunciation of: Whore-dover. This was followed by more verbal slaughtering in the manner of: Irregardless and TOOKEN. TOOKEN is not a word. omg.Taken. This is such a pet peeve of mine!!! Along with “more better”. I think my blood pressure just wrote recollecting the memory!
Have a fantastic tasting!!!
