We spent most of our weekend close to home, venturing out for a bike ride and a quick trip into the city with friend but otherwise hanging around the house, eating pizza and chili and checking things off our to-do list amid family games, movie night and play time with the boys.
Friday night was especially rockin’ and we assembled one of my Labor Day weekend sale finds:
Though it’s technically a TV stand, I am planning to use this piece of furniture in Rhett’s room in the new house to hold toys and books. I was relieved to like it even more in person than the image that initially sold me on the piece online!
Saturday
Most of our weekend was wide open but on Saturday morning we had plans to make our way into the city with our friends Chandra and Kevin and their boys.
(Sweater: Michael Stars via StitchFix / Jeans: GAP — on sale for $20 with code GOSHOP — here’s the same jeans without a rip in the knee / Lug Boots: Amazon / Bag: Freshly Picked)
We met up at Discovery Place Science early enough to beat the rainy-day crowds and thankfully actually managed to have some adult conversation with our friends while we chased after six boys! Kevin and Chandra recently welcomed their third boy back in May and seeing Chandra with sweet baby Dallas strapped into his baby carrier brought me right back to those baby days! I swear Rhett is still a baby to me until I put him next to a real baby and then he’s officially twenty.
We ended up staying at Discovery Place for nearly three hours because the kids were having a blast and we were loving time with our friends.
Eventually we said our goodbyes and made our way to the grocery store to grab some food for the weekend before heading home for a late lunch and Rhett’s nap.
We declared the rest of our Sunday “jammie day” and the boys immediately changed into their pajamas when we arrived back at home and seemed quite content to play with their toys around the house. Ryan and I comment quite frequently on how much our kids seem to genuinely enjoy just being home and having free play time and it’s really awesome to see. We love to be out and about and fill our days with adventure but downtime at home is really important to us, too.
We rounded out our Saturday with homemade pizza, semi-homemade ice cream sandwiches and movie night!
Sunday
On Sunday we spent most of the morning going through boxes from our move back in July. Even though we packed everything ourselves and most of it was fairly well organized, there were still a bunch of boxes at the end filled with miscellaneous stuff we couldn’t really pack until a day or two before we had to be out of the house. These boxes have been haunting my dreams and it was so nice to go through some of them and properly sort everything.
We’re trying not to unpack too much because we’re hopeful we’ll be moving into the new house in November but it’s my hope that organizing things on the backend will make our final move a little less stressful. Maybe that’s wishful thinking but it’s worth a shot!
Around 10 a.m. we were all itching to get out of the house and since we needed to pick p some crickets for Lucky, we figured we’d turn our errand into an adventure and explore a new greenway by the pet store.
We loaded the boys’ bikes into the car and made our way to the Caldwell Station Creek Greenway for right around two miles of biking (for the boys) and walking (for me and Ryan).
The greenway was a great choice for our family because it allowed the big kids to bike ahead and hop on and off their bikes to check out wildlife and peek over bridges while Ryan, Rhett and I followed behind.
Usually when Chase and Ryder ride their bikes, we’ll push Rhett along in a stroller or push car but we figured we’d let him try keeping up on his balance bike on Sunday and he killed it!!! He did not want to stop and loved flying around on his bike for almost the entire hour we were on the greenway.
Rhett loved making motorcycle noises and giving me and Ryan minor heart attacks on the downhill portions of the path.
By the time we arrived back home, everyone was ready for lunch so we dug in and then I put Rhett down for a nap. After a little downtime, Ryan took the big kids off to the pool while I handled the nap trap with Rhett and tackled some food prep for the week ahead. I made BBQ pulled chicken, super seed oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, chopped up some veggies and prepared a batch of my whole wheat pumpkin muffins.
We can never get enough of them in our house!
By the time everyone was home and awake, we didn’t have too much of our Sunday left and spent the rest of the day eating dinner, getting organized for the week ahead and then doing the whole bed and bath time routine with the boys.
Now I’m looking at the week ahead and I think it should be a decent one! Ryder and Rhett’s preschool does a staggered start so Rhett is only in school one day this week but Ryder officially begins a normal schedule tomorrow. I hope to check in with you guys a few times this week as well and wish you a good one! Thanks for making PBF a part of your Monday!
