I hope you guys had a good weekend! Our weekend was rather random, but sometimes random is good, right? With my father-in-law in town, we spent a decent amount of time out and about and took Greg to Choplin’s for a birthday dinner on Friday night.
Of course a homemade birthday cake and a birthday balloon were a part of the celebration as well!
Saturday
Saturday began on an active note with a boot camp class for me and a gym workout for the boys after breakfast. The guys then headed out for some father/son fun while Chase and I ran errands. We stopped at the grocery store, Pier 1 and Nothing Bundt Cakes and naturally our final stop was the highlight!
We brought home mini bundt cakes to enjoy after dinner later that night. (Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure we had cake every single night during Greg’s visit. Apparently birthdays = Four nights of cake in the Fagan household!)
Once everyone was back home, we headed out to a local park to walk for an hour.
The park was quite crowded with people thanks to the beautifully sunny weather. It was the perfect day to be outside and clearly we weren’t the only ones who had the bright idea to stretch our legs in the late afternoon.
By the time we made it home, our stomachs were growling and we drove to Blu Star Grill for a casual, low key dinner. (I’m pretty sure I had the cutest booth buddy even though he was way more interested in his toy turtle than his mama.)
(FYI for the locals, we absolutely loved our food – I ordered the blackened salmon – and the people who worked there were incredibly friendly and thoughtful. They went out of their way to make us comfortable with Chase and were so kind.)
Sunday
Sunday morning it SNOWED! Our first snow of the season! Unfortunately it wasn’t cold enough outside for the snow to stick around, but watching the beautiful flakes slowly fall was a wonderful way to kick off a cozy Sunday morning.
I made pancakes and scrambled eggs with cheese for everyone to eat before the guys headed out to see the new Star Wars movie.
Am I the only one on the planet who has never seen even one of the Star Wars movies? They’ve never appealed to me in the least, but my sister used to say the same thing until her husband coerced her into watching all of them last month. Now she’s a fan and I’m wondering if I should give them a try. (Don’t hold your breath on this one…)
While Ryan and Greg were at the movie, I stayed busy with Chase and Sadie and dusted off my running shoes to take the gang out on a 4.5 mile walk/run. We definitely did way more walking than running but it felt good to be outside.
(Shout out to Sadie lookin’ mighty spiffy in her Christmas sweater!)
I think the last time I talked about postnatal running on the blog, I said I felt like my insides were going to fall out and I must say I am happy to be seeing an improvement with how my body is feeling during a run these days. We run in short bursts in boot camp which feels totally fine but I am admittedly still not feeling back to my normal self when it comes to postnatal running.
Sometimes it’s hard not to feel discouraged when running seems to come back with a vengeance for other new moms, but it is slowly becoming more comfortable for me. I’m practicing patience when it comes to running these days and definitely listening to my body. It’s telling me not to push it or run long distances right now, so that’s what I’m doing. (Side note: It’s so weird to me that burpees feel 100 percent fine but running feels awkward… So strange.)
Once we made it back home, I nursed Chase, took a quick shower and then started to sort through a ton of old photos. I’m planning to send a bunch into Legacybox to have some pictures from college digitized.
(Hi Laurel! Oh and the above pic was from a Viking-themed social. Laurel didn’t walk around wearing cheetah-print stoles for the fun of it, I promise.)
Facebook and digital cameras seemed to explode during the last two years I was in college (raise your hand if you’re also super grateful Facebook wasn’t really a thing when you were in high school/college…), so I’m hoping to get a handful of pictures that were captured on disposable cameras put onto a few CDs.
I stumbled upon some gems like these glorious “professional” photos from a random Carnival spring break cruise:
I’m pretty sure those photos are the closest I’ve ever come to Glamour Shots. The poses crack me up!
The rest of our Sunday was spent watching the Panthers game and hanging out around the house before I headed to the airport to pick up my mom. She was in Gettysburg this weekend with my aunt and the two of them spent some time going through some of Mimi’s old belongings that were stored at one of her friends’ houses before heading onto Maryland for a mini reunion with their cousins. My mom decided to stop by our house in Charlotte for the week to spend some time with her grandson before heading back to Florida on Friday and to say I’m thrilled to have her here again would be a serious understatement. Woop!
After I picked up my mom, we grabbed Thai food for the gang back home and dug into some delicious noodles, chicken and soup before bed.
I hope you guys had a great weekend!

1:1 cake:day ratio sounds about right to me.
I’ve also never seen any Star Wars movies. I think there are 4 of us. Science fiction never really appealed to me.
Christina @ Embracing Simple says
Sounds like a wonderful weekend Julie! Those cruise pictures are priceless, I think I have ones of my brother and I kind of similar from when we were younger on a cruise we took as a family. Totally cheesy, but beyond fun to look at later on. Hope you have a great start to your week!
Dietitian Jess says
Glad to know the outfit was for a themed party- although some of my regular outfits from back in the day look ridiculous and they were just for a regular day, lol. LOVE Sadie’s sweater, so cute. Happy to hear running is feeling better- would love to hear more about working out post partum and if you are back to pre-pregnancy self in bootcamp workouts and etc.
Kelsey says
Awesome weekend post Julie 🙂 Would die for beautiful weather like that! Over here in little Rhode Island it’s 21 degrees and snowed all last night. Although it’s beautiful, would love to have nice weather back! But how were those mini bundt cakes? Sound like an interesting idea for a party
Sarah @ SarahRuns26 says
I hadn’t seen any of the Star Wars movies until I was in high school. My best friend made me watch them and I have to admit that he was right, they are really good, even if science fiction isn’t really your thing. The story is really good. I haven’t seen the new one yet but I’ve heard good things and I can’t wait to find some time for it!
Have a great week!
Lindsay @ A Runnaroundd Life says
I love going through old photos–the poses are hilarious 🙂 I’ve also never seen all the Star Wars movies and never really had the desire to either. Let us know what you think if you make it through them all!
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
The snow falling and not sticking around seems amazing!! I think my husband and I should move somewhere warmer!
I didnt like Star Wars and I watched all of the movies (except the one in the theater). My husband keeps saying he thinks I’ll like the new one even if I didnt like the others. Im not too sure about it!
Those carnival cruise photos are always a gem. The poses are the best part haha!
haley @cupcakes and sunshine says
I have never seen Star Wars either! I think it would take a movie translator to help me figure out what is going on in it!! LOVING those glamour shots. Haha! AND NOTHING BUNDT CAKES ARE TO DIE FOR!
Marley says
Is your stroller good for running? I really want a jogging stroller but don’t love the price of the Bob’s!
Bri says
Looks like you had a great weekend! I love Sadie’s sweater… Super cute! Enjoy the time with your mom!
Catherine @ foodiecology says
Those “glamour shots” of you and Ryan are cracking me up! I still have a disposable camera that I *think* is from my wedding reception, so I’m curious to develop those gems! That’s if the film isn’t ruined after all these years.
I’m almost 32, and I’ve never watched any Star Wars movies. I would like to start from the beginning but it’s tough to sound hours in front of the TV with a one year old! One day…
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
I haven’t seen them either, however I have a feeling that will change since my hubby ordered the collectors edition off Amazon! He keeps asking if I want to watch 4-6 or 1-3 first lol haelp me. JK maybe I’ll love them?
Kim says
Sounds like a great weekend! I love looking at old photos! We had our first snow up in DC yesterday too.. Now it’s FREEZING!

So… I felt the same way about Star Wars and my hubby convinced me to try to watch them a couple weeks ago. We started with Episode 1 and I got into it! It’s a little too violent for my taste, but I took it for what it was and really ended up enjoying them. We even went to the theater to see the new one.
Chelsea@TableForOne says
I love weekends full of cake!! There is no reason not to celebrate for four full days. Looks like a fun-filled weekend.
Erin says
Julie, don’t worry! I’ve never *really* seen any Star Wars movies either. I was forced to go to see Phantom Menace as part of my brother’s bday party. But I’m pretty sure I only went for the Buncha Crunch.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
What a fun weekend! I love the throwback photos!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
Nothing Bundt Cakes are so delicious! I’ve only seen the original three Star Wars, and while I liked them, I never got really into them. That said, I did really enjoy the new one 🙂
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
Whoop whoop – sounds like a busy, but fun weekend! Interesting idea with sending photos to LegacyBox! I had thought of videos, but I’d be interested to see how the photos turn out.
Hope you keep enjoying cake all the year through. 🙂

Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
A Nothing Bundt Cakes just opened in Chicago, and I really want to check it out! It sounds right up my alley 🙂
I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movies, either. Sci-Fi just does not interest me at all, so I have a hard time thinking that I’d enjoy Star Wars.
Anna @ THE POSH BODY says
Old photos are the absolute best. Especially when you find a set of photos from one of those disposable cameras… hilarious! I kind of miss the days when you had to wait to see what a photo looked like. Nice calligraphy on that birthday cake, by the way.
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles says
That sounds like a really nice, relaxing weekend! It’s nice you had so many fun visitors too!
And, I vote you give Star Wars a try… 🙂
Amanda @ Exploring Life & Things says
I also have never seen any Star Wars movies either! It’s like the one movie that people actually get angry at me for not seeing before haha.
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
My sister likes to go home and find awful pictures of me and then post them on FB. She’s such a sweetheart. I have some atrocious Glamour Shots ones for sure.
Rachel @ Simply Rachel Nicole says
Can I come to your house for breakfast! Those pancakes look so good! 🙂 And Sadie’s sweater is so cute! I hope you have a lot of fun with your mom. 🙂 Having your mom in town is the best!
Nikki says
Two things. One I have yet to feel comfortable running since I had my daughter 20 months ago! Yep almost 2 years and I am not comfortable running. I actually just said to my husband over the weekend that I really wanna run again but I am just not there. Don’t give up mama! Two, I dont have a desire or care to see the Star Wars Movies. I have never seen any of them either so no you are not alone! 🙂
Courtney! says
I watched the 3 original Star Wars movies just last week all in a row (snow day!). I was always so intimidated by them because of all the theories, characters, and mania around it, but if you just watch them without worrying about reading into it all, they are fun adventure movies just like Hunger Games.
Those Carnival pictures crack me up! I’m surprised they didn’t greenscreen in some sort of fake beach 🙂
HollieMuscles&Munchkins says
So the question is: do you like the snow or not?
Those pictures are awesome. I am so glad Facebook wasn’t big when I was in college. I am definitely going to be trying out Legacy Box soon.
Julie says
Love it!! 🙂 But we don’t get a TON of it here by any means, so that probably makes a difference. 🙂
Lindsay @ Fit & Awesome says
I have NEVER seen any of the Star Wars movies either. My husband and most of my friends think I am crazy because I grew up in the Star Wars era but never saw them. I’ve been considering watching them but haven’t really made an effort to do so yet. Glad to see I am not the only one!
Your little guy is super cute. Postnatal running was so hard for me with nursing. I had to wear two sports bras or my boobs felt like they were going to explode!
Glad you had a great weekend!

Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
HA! Love the cruise photos. 🙂 I always get a good laugh when looking at old photos. Facebook was just getting started when I was at UF, and we were one of the first schools allowed to use it. Oh how it’s changed. Yay for your Momma’s visit! Happy Monday, Julie!
Jessie R says
ALL the cake 🙂 sounds like a perfect weekend to me! I had never seen any Star Wars till the new one came out a few months ago… went with friends. I really enjoyed it! Although, I’m not really interested in watching the other ones yet. haha.
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement says
Birthdays definitely call for lots of cake!
Melissa @ melissakolbeck.com says
Those photos are amazing! You two look like babies!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
I don’t comment much on blogs these days (I still read them!!), but I just HAD to after those throwback glamour shots ha! You two looked so tan. Please keep them and show them to Chase and any future kids when they’re grown up 🙂
Kim from MN says
My birthday was on Friday too! I love the cake you made. But my favorite thing about this entire post is the photos of you and Ryan on that white background. lol So fun! And speaking of which, I do have glamour shots, and they’re as amazing (in cheesiness) as you’d expect. I’m wearing a leather jacket with a flipped up collar in one. Yes. It’s as good as it sounds. lol
If you haven’t felt compelled to watch Star Wars, don’t feel pushed. I saw them when I was an itty bitty tiny kid, so I grew up with them all, and loved them (and yes, I have the figurines), but it’s not something you should feel you HAVE to do. Case in point: I had never seen the Godfather movies (and I didn’t have any desire, at all, to see them.) I finally watched half of the first one (and didn’t finish it). I can see why other people like it, but it’s just not for me. I don’t want to feel like I *have* to watch anything, because it’s my free time, right? Spending it how I wish! Looks like you had a fun weekend!
Giana says
No Star Wars ever for this girl either! Maybe it is an Illinois thing, Julie?!?! My husband thinks I didn’t have a childhood because of it, but personally, I have no desire to see them!
Anna D. says
I always appreciate your restaurant recommendations. The Nothing Bundt Cakes on S. Kings Drive just had their grand opening. The first 50 people receive a free bundtlet a month for a year and now my sister and I will be eating bundtlets until 2017!
Katie says
Julie, I highly recommend seeking out a pelvic floor physical therapist. I had a baby right around when you did, and I just went to see one and cannot recommend it highly enough! There’s no reason to suffer unnecessarily. Best of luck!!
Courtney @ ScoopingRN says
What’s a birthday without multiple cakes?! My boyfriend made me watch the first Star Wars but I still haven’t hopped on the STAR WARS train…
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movie either. I’m okay with that.
Natalie says
I haven’t seen snow in years! I wonder what Sadie thinks of it!
I’m a Stars Wars fan, my boyfriend isn’t. I was going to see it on my own until he heard his colleagues saying how great it was. He caved, went with me actually said it was a great movie!
Alycia says
Not the only one, I have never seen any of the movies either. They are definitely not my type!
Katherine says
Such a great post! Love the glamour shots!! Too fun!!
Tera says
Man, this post makes me want a funfetti cake so bad! I noticed you said you were running with Chase and I just wanted to note you might want to speak with your pediatrician about that. They look so snug and cozy in there, but I didn’t realize until I started doing some research myself, about jogging strollers that you should not jog with an infant until at least 6 months based on their neck strength. Just wanted to put that out there.
Lindsay says
That sounds like my idea of a perfect weekend & not so different from my own!! We have fallen in LOVE with Nothing Bundt Cakes over the past year & just found out we are moving where there is not one. I already told my husband that we have to get our fix in now! Haha
Laurel @ blondeandabrit says
I spy a face that is coated in that foamy sunless tanner we used to use. HAHAHAHAHA. My God we were clowns. OOMPA LOOMPA DOOMPITY DO…..And I could use a cheeta wrap today. It’s cold!
Amanda McIver says
Can I ask what kind of jogger stroller you have? I’m on the lookout for one and would love a recommendation.
Thanks! 🙂
Amanda
Katie says
You need to see Star Wars, the original 3 movies. I will try my best not to judge you if you don’t like them 🙂
