Good morning!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We last left off with a long-winded recap of my final day in Oregon on Friday, but since I was traveling all day on Saturday and spent Sunday relaxing (Friday night’s 2.5 hours of sleep caught up to me), there’s not too much to report about the weekend on my end.
I did manage to start and finish our book club book of the month, Thirteen Reasons Why, during my travels on Saturday.
The book is a really fast read and I couldn’t put it down. Though I thought it was a definite page-turner, once I finished the novel, I found myself feeling a little let down. It was good and I was interested the whole time, but I wouldn’t say I absolutely loved the book. It will be a good one to discuss with you guys when I post my official review and your review links on the blog on November 5!
On Sunday, Ryan and I caught an early evening showing of Pitch Perfect.
Ryan and I both love a cappella music (we were two of the 10 die-hard fans of The Sing Off and Straight No Chaser was one of our all-time favorite concerts), so this movie appealed to us right off the bat! (Okay, so it appealed to me right off the bat, but Ryan was a good sport and didn’t take too much convincing to see it with me yesterday.)
The movie made us laugh out loud many, many times and was really entertaining. One of my favorite songs was the Treblemaker’s “Right Round.” The first 10 seconds of that song were so cool! And Rebel Wilson = Hilarious.
Oh how I wish I could sing.
Workout + Breakfast
My usual schedule resumed today with an early morning workout. Following 20 minutes on the elliptical, I completed an upper body workout. I have a feeling I am going to be a little sore tomorrow!
Once Ryan and I arrived home from the gym, it was time for breakfast.
Pancakes were calling to me this morning!
I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes and topped them with a sprinkle of raw cashews and syrup.
Yum!
Time to get to work!
The winners of the Best Body Boot Camp giveaway will be announced this afternoon. Stay tuned!

Can’t wait to see Pitch Perfect!! Unfortunately, it’s not out for another 8 weeks here in Germany.
I loooove Rebel Wilson, ever since Bridesmaids.
Did you know her sibling are called Liberty, Ryot and Annachi.
I find that too funny…:-)
Tiff (@LoveSweatBeers) says
I love banana pancakes, so I’m sure banana protein pancakes would be right up my alley. Dang – why didn’t I think of that this morning?!?! 😉
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
They’re soooo good! Definitely a must try!
Katie Heddleston says
Glad you commented about the book – I felt a bit let down at the end as well… saying to myself, “that was it?” Or something similar. Excited to discuss!!
peanutbutterfingers says
my reaction exactly! there was so much build up and intensity throughout the book and then it was just… meh.
Julie @ sweetly balanced says
I really need to see Pitch Perfect!!!! So many people keep talking about how good it is!! I’m glad you took Sunday to relax!! 2.5 hours of sleep is not good!
Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie says
That book is still on hold 🙁 But I definitely want to see that movie. Love Rebel Wilson and Elizabeth banks

i was number 2 in line at my library and somehow got it w/in a week! it’s a fast read, so hopefully those who have it before you will read FAST!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
When I read that book a few years ago, I had similar feelings at the end. I think it’s just too disturbing to be able to say you loved it.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
I’ve heard so many good things about Pitch Perfect. I definitely need to get myself to a movie theatre soon, because I want to see what all the buzz is about!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I need to see that movie, sounds like my kind of thing too! And I’m glad to know the book is a quick read, I ordered mine from a website called thriftbooks and it just arrived, so I hope I can get through it quickly!
Yellow Haired Girl says
Ahhhh I need to see that movie!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I pretty much felt the same way about the book! It was a page turner for me, but at the end, I wasn’t quite sure what I thought. I’m not even sure I can review it! It was such a heavy subject and it was a decent book, but I didn’t love it.
Elaine says
I got the book but haven’t had time to read it yet. Hoping to start tonight! I’m really curious to see what it’s all about after reading your review.
Rachel says
omg I want to see this movie so badly LOL it looks hysterical!

My parents and I were 3 more of the 10 Sing Off fans. 😉 So bummed they cancelled it!
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
I started and finished the book this weekend. I couldn’t put it down, I wanted to know what happened. I too was disappointed with the ending, I guess I wanted something more? I am dying to see that movie, glad to hear it was funny!
Corey @ When We Wander says
I’ve had such a hankering for pancakes ever since October hit!! I might have to give in to the craving this weeked….waffles just haven’t been cutting it!
Leanne says
I thought I was the only girl under the age of 30 that liked Straight No Chaser! Their Christmas album is a must-have!
peanutbutterfingers says
hahaha! you and i can stand strong as their two under-30 fans. 🙂
Sommer@ASpicyPerspective says
Those are some good looking pancakes!! Loved meeting you this weekend.
I’ll have to check out pitch perfect!
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Awwr that sucks about the book! I hate feeling let down after a read. If you’re ever looking for a good book (and haven’t read it already) then I definitely recommend checking out The Art of Racing in the Rain. I loved it so much the first time that I decided to pick it up again and give it another read through.
Chelsea @ Chelsea Eats Treats says
I started and finished the book this weekend too (well- technically I started it on Friday) and I feel the same way you did….a little let down. I think I realized about 3/4 of the way through the book that no matter what happened, there couldn’t really be a happy ending since Hannah was dead. I wrote my review and will send it to you soon!!
Sarah P. says
I want to see Pitch Perfect so bad. I attend Louisiana State University and it was filmed here so hopefully I will see some people in the background I know. Can’t wait to see it. I have only heard good things.

Pancakes look good!

That reminds me: I need to type up a book review for my blog. I liked it, but I feel like the end happened and that was it. Really fast read up until the end, but I’ll save this discussion for your entry on it. 🙂
Glad you had a fun trip!
Megan@funsizedfitness says
I LOVED Pitch Perfect!!!!!!!!!!! (Probably because I love it when people break out in song…like in Glee!!!)
eliza says
did you ever do a recap on ryans strategies when you flew to Hawaii? I am flying soon and am so nervous 🙁
Sandy @ RE says
You inspired me, GF. Guess what? My knee feels almost 100% normal today! I just had a great 1.25 hr. workout in gym.
Wish we could go on a run. Yummy pancakes!
xo
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Oooh that does sound like a fun movie!
Love a good ‘burnin’ arms workout 🙂
Jill says
I thought the book was good (I read it long ago), but kind of didn’t understand all the hype in the reading world about it. I hate to say anything negative about it (and I’m not, it was a good book), but I didn’t find the story and message to be hard-hitting or thought-provoking over any others.
Anyway, your pancakes look yum. They look so different from the original pancakes in the linked ones!
molly @ heart, sole & cereal says
i was such a serious sing off fan. i might have shed a few tears when it got cancelled. and i think jerry lawson and the town might be my favorite group in life 😉
Sarah says
I’m one of the other die-hard Sing-Off fans. So sad it wasn’t renewed.
But my husband and I will see Pentatonix in concert next month and I am SO EXCITED. Hoping we don’t stand out too much among the kids (we’re 35). 🙂
Alison says
I’ve heard Straight No Chaser on my Pandora and they’re awesome! Maybe I’ll check out Pitch Perfect sometime soon. Those pancakes look delicious!
Jess @ Three Men and a Mommy says
Excited to start the book this week, I’ve been looking forward to it….but now I already feel a little let down! Lol

I want to see this movie so badly!! It looks hysterical, I really wish I could sing too!
Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts says
I too was one of the 10 fans of The Sing-Off. So upset they canceled that show!!
Amy H. says
I’m one of those 10 fans of The Sing-Off too! That was SUCH an awesome show. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I picked out the winner of every season on the very first night of the show 🙂
Amy says
Haven’t seen Pitch Perfect yet, my boss did the choreography for the movie, need to see it been hearing great things about it.
Def want to try the banana pancakes wish I was a better cook, my stuff never turns out quite the same.
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
I’m not a big Glee or a cappella fan, but I do want to see this movie. I love Rebel Wilson and that dude from Workaholics. I think they makeout in the movie, too, but I could be wrong. The music does look fun, too!
Andrea says
I agree with you about this book! I have a book blog and read the book back in 2009. I had read such great reviews of the book and was so excited to read it but I guess I really expected more out of the book!
