Oh hey there! How is your Monday going?
Today is flyin’ by for this girl! I worked through the morning and taught water fitness for an instructor who is out this week. It was fun teaching to a new crowd and we did lots of intervals in the water to some rockin’ oldies!
Lunch
I ate the tuna salad that I packed in the break room after water fitness, but by the time I made it home later this afternoon, I was hungry for more.
I fixed myself a sampler plate that included a toasted whole wheat English muffin topped with colby jack cheese and strawberry jelly, carrots with hummus and a nectarine.
I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve been loving hummus this summer. I’ve always liked it, but lately I’ve found myself eating it out of the container by the spoonful. Yum!
I think it may be time for me to break out my food processor and make some homemade hummus this week!
Here are some recipes that caught my eye:
- Buffalo Hummus from Eclectic Recipes
- Spinach Hummus from Snacking Squirrel
- Black Bean Hummus from Cooking Light
- Roasted Red Pepper Hummus from Colourful Palate
- Guacamole Hummus from Martha Stewart
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your favorite healthy dip?
My sister’s fiancé makes the most fabulous dip that includes tons of fresh veggies, black beans, avocado and more. I’ll make it my mission to take notes the next time he makes it so I can share the recipe with you guys. It’s amazing!
I’ve also been hummus crazy this summer! It’s so good and especially satisfying when it’s hot outside. I like this curry sweet potato hummus: http://naturallyella.com/2012/01/20/sweet-potato-curry-hummus/
I looove jalepeno cilantro hummus on salad instead of dressing. It’s served on a salad from Panera’s gluten free hidden menu and it’s amazing!
My favourite is taramasalata. I can’t get enough! I love tzatziki and smoked aubergine dips, too. All the Greek ones!
I eat hummus practically every day! My favorite is the garlic hummus from Tribe. Or the roasted red pepper. The absolute best, though, (when I can get it) is the white bean hummus from Trader Joes! You should definitely try it if you have a TJ’s nearby.
Ah, thanks for the reminder to stock up on hummus ingredients :).. Other than that I do really like salsa in summer – or any time of the year, really. Only I haven’t actually gotten creative with recipes though I’d really like to give something a little more special like Peach Salsa a try.
I always love homemade guacamole, no matter what time of year! But I recently purchased Abraham’s “Cha-Cha Chipotle Humus w/ Flax” it’s absolutely delicious and has a great spicy kick!
I love hummus too! I have a jalapeño cilantto hummus recipe on the blog that is delish!
I love using PB2, nutter butter, and greek yogurt as a dip for fruits. For veggies, I’m all about that hummus and making dips from avocados.
I’m obsessed with Trader Joe’s horseradish hummus. I’m going to give the buffalo hummus a shot – sounds great!
I love Trader Joe’s cilantro and jalapeno hummus!!
This 7 layer greek dip is my favorite and it’s a huge hit at parties! Incorporates hummus, too!

I love roasted red pepper hummus. I use it in lieu of dressing on salads!
I never even would have thought about buffalo hummus, but that looks incredible!!!
Just good ole hummus works for me … and now I’m craving it 😉
My favorite is not exactly AS healthy as hummus (it really can be made healthy or unhealthy), but I LOOOOVE seven layer Mexican dip! We always have it at family gatherings and I can NEVER get enough! YUM!

Have you tried any of Trader Joe’s hummus flavors? They have some awesome ones like tomato basil, chipotle, and horseradish (so good!)!
Chilpotle hummus! Love the bit of a kick- actually just made a batch and ate the whole lot with dinner…1 full can of chickpeas worth! Addictive!
Lemon pepper hummus all the way. Check out the recipe. I’m addicted.

I love cowboy caviar in the summer! And, Trader Joe’s Jalapeno hummus is my jam!
Oh my goodness now you’re making me want hummus! The guacamole hummus sounds spectacular–basically my two favorite things ever in one dish.
Ross’ dip sounds good! Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Find out Ross’ veggie dip before Labor Day so we can have something to bring to our end-of-summer get-togethers. (That’s a lot of hyphens.)
🙂 THANKS!
I just bought buffalo hummus… SO, so good! I had it on a portabello “burger” with caramelized red onion and blue cheese. UGH. too good
I like to make homemade guac! Though I usually leave it more on the chunky side. Yum!
I’m hummus crazy too!!! And so is my husband. Sometimes we just have hummus, veggies, and pita bread for dinner. I actually just made a big bowl of hummus right before I sat down and saw this post! I love Ina Garten’s recipe (except I use half the garlic). MMMM.
Guacamole hummus?? YUM. I love this low fat greek yogurt spinach artichoke dip that Costco sells…seriously amazing.
I love making hummus! I’ve never tried spinach hummus or black bean hummus but both look great and I’m looking forward to trying them out! Here’s my fave basic hummus recipe: http://daybydaymasterpiece.com/2012/09/07/homemade-hummus/
I absolutely love hummus. The spicier the better!!
Like you, I adore hummus! For me, just the overall natural flavor of hummus is so satisfying and ideal for dipping carrots and cucumbers, among others. Such a unique and savory flavor! Yum!
These look great! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Definitely going to try out each one.
I’ve been loving hummus on veggie burgers! It is so simple to make by just using chickpeas, lemon juice and olive oil. Thanks for the links to add a little more fun to plain hummus.
SO funny… today I found an extra can of chickpeas and was considering making my own hummus for the first time! I am obsessed and put it on absolutely everything, but have never made it myself. Do you know if it will turn out alright if I don’t use tahini?
Dip is one of the few things I have such little self control with! I love so many… onion dip, salsa, guacamole, 7 layer bean dip, hummus, you name it!
I love hummus! I have been putting it on my eggs for breakfast. Whole foods makes a good one. I love all flavors but usually stick to original and spenach artichoke (sneak a few more veggies in).
The title of this post read my mind!! Off to the store for hummus I go!
I’m gonna have to give both the spinach and the red pepper hummus a go! I just got my food processor and I can’t wait to make hummus in it! I like to eat hummus with lentils and quinoa- SO DELICIOUS! I also love love love some good homemade guac. Yum! 🙂
That’s my problem..I literally eat ALL the tub (or jars) of all things like hummus and nut butter….its real problem 🙁
Same with spaghetti sauce…already today I’ve eaten like 3/4 jar of spaghetti sauce (I even dump it on salmon..) I have major problems clearly.
Ahhhh!!! I have been absolutely obsessed with hummus lately! I will literally sit and eat enough veggies/crackers and hummus to replace a meal. Happened about every other day this past week! haha. Besides hummus, I LOVE guac and homemade salsa. Can’t get enough!
Those hummus recipes look amazing!!!!! Thanks for tracking them down and sharing them!
I’ve really liked hummus this summer too-but comes & goes in phases! Prob b/c of my pregnancy –cravings hit like a truck! hah.
I’ve been loving the Tribe everything flavor so much lately! I hope they make it a regular soon.
I’ve made buffalo and black bean hummus. Both are really good!
Buffalo hummus…..sold! I’ve been on a BBQ sauce kick lately, I wonder if that’d make a good hummus. Right now, my fave dip is the chipotle ranch greek yogurt dip I’ve been devouring lately.
I love hummus! We will substitute it for mayo on our sandwiches 🙂 Makes them a little bit healthier 🙂 I had never tried hummus until I got to college, and now my husband and I are huge fans!
I’m pretty in love with hummus, too. Sabra is my go-to, but I like homemade as well. I also love guacamole. Oh, and spinach and artichoke dip. And last but not least, pumpkin pie dip with Nilla Wafers (only at Christmas, though 😉 So, my dips aren’t necessarily healthy, but boy are they good!
I love guacamole and any kind of bean dip! Yum! Can you do an update on homemade hummus if you make it? I’ve tried a few times and it’s always disappointing! I need some tips!
I think you’ve passed that craving along to me…I seriously eat hummus every single day. I’ve been eying the guacamole hummus on pinterest! Must make soon!
I’ve never tried hummus… is that weird?!
I love hummus! It’s super easy to make, so I’ve been making my own lately. My favorite flavors are either garlic or sun-dried tomato.
I just added hummus as a spread to my buffalo chicken sandwich for lunch today. Yum!
I ALWAYS make my own hummus and I get my family and friends raving about it! One tip that I feel makes an ENORMOUS difference….skin the chickpeas! The skin makes the hummus grainy while skinned chickpeas make a smooth hummus!
