A few things from this weekend… In list form!
- Homeland!
We started watching season one of Homeland last night and let’s just say we’re ALL IN. We popped the first DVD in before 5 p.m. and did nothing else until bedtime. The show is so addicting and we’re already hooked! I’m really hoping to squeeze in an episode or two after dinner tonight! Big goals, I know. Haha!
- Pure Barre Change Up
My local Pure Barre studio introduced a new warm up routine on January 1 (routines change every 3 months) and I did it for the first time on Saturday. Oh man, it is a killer and totally lit my core on fire! I was ready to shake things up a bit so the new routine came at the perfect time and was oh-so-humbling.
- Bye, Bye Christmas
We put away all of our Christmas decorations and the Christmas lights this weekend. Ryan and I divided up the tasks and while I tackled the inside décor, he packed up the outdoor lights which made the process go by faster than anticipated! I now feel like there’s a big void in our house where the Christmas tree is supposed to be. The post-holiday blues are setting in…
- Pizza Night
Ryan and I got together with our friends Chandra and Kevin on Friday night and spent hours chatting away and eating several slices of our all-time favorite pizza at Brooklyn South. It’s our go-to spot for pizza and after raving to Chandra and Kevin about it in the past, the four of us met up for a low key pizza night which was exactly what I was in the mood for on Friday. So delicious!
- Breakfast at Terrace Café
Terrace Café came highly recommended to me by my friend Lindsay! I actually took my sister to the delicious breakfast hot spot when she was in town last fall, but Ryan had yet to give it a try, so we headed to the café for brunch on Sunday and grabbed a seat at the bar. Their food is absolutely fabulous (I ordered the quiche of the day and shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy with Ryan to start) but I think their specialty coffee drinks are equally worthy of praise.
When I went with my sister, I had the peanut butter cup latte and it was out of this world! This time, I opted for a hazelnut almond milk cappuccino and I don’t know what they do to their coffee to kick the flavor up a notch, but it’s unreal. I think they have the best specialty coffee drinks I’ve found in Charlotte so far! I just had to give this place a shout out in case you’re a local reader and haven’t been to Terrace Café yet. Put it on your radar!
- Whole Foods Apple Pie a la Mode
Talk about the best way to end the weekend! As we settled in to watch our millionth episode of Homeland last night, Ryan and I split this big bowl of warm apple pie and creamy ice cream and it was all kinds of amazing. The perfect way to cap off a lazy Sunday night!
Questions of the Morning
- Share one of the highlights from your weekend! What was the best thing you ate? The most fun thing you did?
- Are you currently addicted to a certain TV show? Anyone else just discovering Homeland for the first time? I hear it gets even better in season two…
healthyhappierbear says
I love Homeland and am on the current season! It is still very good but different than the beginning. I agree, I think season 2 was best!
Morgan says
LOVE Homeland but also just started watching The Good Wife with my husband and we are hooked!
Josie says
Um, Sadie’s face in the Christmas decoration picture is priceless! It’s like she can’t figure out why she is not the main thing in the picture. We’re taking the tree out tomorrow night and I know the room is going to look so lonely! I might leave some snowmen decorations up so the room doesn’t feel too empty.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That cafe looks adorable! I LOVE places that really put time into the coffee they serve. Makes it feel extra special.
Janay Ridge says

I am loving the new warm-up at barre! Except the roll up with the ball between your legs is killer! Have they done the ab routine with you where you are punching left and right? I LOVE that! 🙂 🙂
Julie says

Molly says
I seriously want to die every time we do the roll up with the ball! Ahhh!
Jenny says
Homeland is amazing! I finished the last season last week and I have no idea how I am going to last until Sept/Oct for Season 5. Was wondering where you bought your brown slouch beanie? I’m looking for one in navy blue.
Thanks,
Jenny

I am on day #4 of a Whole30, but the best thing I ate was a smoked salmon hash with a tangy dill dressing yesterday morning! So tasty.

Angela says
Lol! Even Sadie looks sad to see Christmas go.
Bailey Hatch says
I want that hat- sups cute. I see your Amazon link and will be purchasing! On Sunday I went to a tea shop and read most of “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart. Definitely recommend! That was the relaxing highlight from my weekend probably.
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
My husband received Homeland Season 1 for Christmas but we haven’t started watching it yet — guess I should be prepared to binge watch! 🙂
julie says
Homeland is awesome. You should check out Orphan Black on bbc. Seriously the best show EVER. It has 2 seasons so far with 3 starting in April. I was hooked in 5 minutes no lie. I never recommend shows but this one is stellar
Laura G. says
Orphan Black is great! My husband and I are addicted as well!
Emily says
The funnest thing I did this weekend was probably go out to a nice Italian restaurant with my boyfriend and his family, lots of laughs. And I am currently addicted to How to Get Away With Murder–SO GOOD!! Can not wait for it to come back on!
Natural Bio Health says
That pizza and ice cream looks amazing! I spent the weekend procrastinating on taking down Christmas decorations myself (they’re just so pretty!) but finally made a fun event of it on Sunday complete with Chinese delivery. 🙂
Parita @ myinnershakti says
We binge watched “How to get away with murder” last week. I HIGHLY recommend the show – it’s addicting!
Kim says
I love Homeland! I never post spoilers. I’ve only seen the first two seasons, though, but they were great.
I did a lot of things this weekend, but by far, my favorite, was watching the return of Downton Abbey! It’s such a great show, if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a MUST. There’s a reason people go wild for it. My husband LOVES it too, and just so you know, he’s not into period movies at all, and spends a lot of his free time playing intense video games. So, if he can love it and I can love it, you know it’s dang good.
Julie says
i love downton abbey!
Mary says
you look SO cute in your sweater and beanie!!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
One of my BEST friends from back home came to stay with us this weekend. It was. WONDERFUL.
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy says
Homeland is an awesome show! Every season gets better and better
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks) says
What an awesome weekend. That pizza looks all kinds of amazing. mmmmmm!
We packed up our Christmas decorations too. It’s so sad, but it feels nice to have less clutter I guess. The spirit of the season still lives on though! <3
Ashley says
My bf and I are (as usual) hooked on Seinfeld. No matter how many times I watch the episodes, they’re always HILARIOUS! Also the best thing I ate this weekend was prob some homemade boneless buffalo wings… SO GOOD. I had a craving for them and didn’t want to buy them at a restaurant, so we made our own and they turned out amazing!
Amy Ramos says
We watched all of the Harry Potter movies from NYE to Saturday night. I forgot how the last one is sad.
For the past several years on New Year’s Day, I have made cioppino. It was delicious.
Hillary says
come decorate my house! yours is so cute!
Lauren @ Beautiful Plant-Based Life says
Best thing I ate this weekend: homemade, fluffy-as-a-pillow, vegan pancakes. Yum.
I’ve been searching for a new show to live up to last year’s Breaking Bad binge watching… Serial did the trick during the holidays. Maybe I’ll try Homeland next??
EmilyAnne says
I agree with all the other posts about your sweater and beanie. Thanks for posting links. http://www.eatallovertheworld.com
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
It’s amazing how tough barre classes can be despite most of the movements not being that big. The burn!
The best thing I ate this weekend was on Friday night with my boyfriend. He made a beef and veggie stir fry with a ginger/hoisin sauce. It was delicious!
cnoella0282 says
Hubby and I are obsessed with Breaking Bad! We’ve been watching it whenever we get a moment. (currently have an 9 week old baby so sometimes getting an hour to watch an episode is sparse!)
Best thing I ate this weekend…hmmm. Coming off the New Years festivities, we kept it light and simple this weekend. But we did have left over brownies so I had one with a scoop of ice cream 🙂
Emily @ Sweets and Beets says
So jealous of your treats this weekend! 🙂 Love the beanie and sweater on you, thought. =) And I’m feeling the de-decorating blues, too .. wahhh, always so sad when Christmas is over!
Margeaux Vittoria says
Love your slouchy hat! Where’d you get it?
Lisa @ theskinnyandthethickofit says
I am addicted to re-runs of House on Netflix… I figure after all the episodes I have watched, I am about half way to earning my medical degree… I’m in my second semester of pregnancy, and all I want to eat is fruit. So “cutie” oranges were probably the most delicious thing I ate this weekend. And I’m loving Greek yogurt too. Not exactly gourmet, but seems like it to me these days!
Lisa @ theskinnyandthethickofit says
*second trimester – dang autocorrect!
Jodi@prairiekuchen says
Totally into Downton Abbey and Parenthood! Downton was last night and Parenthood is back this week! Can’t wait.
Laura G. says
I’ve been addicted to Homeland since Season 1. Season 3 kinda slows down but keep with it because this past season that just ended is awesome! Was on edge of my seat whole season! Love this show!
Laura G. says
Oh, and I second Orphan Black on BBC. Great show!!
Natalie Kaczmarczyk says
Hi Julie! I love the hat you’re wearing at Terrace Cafe. Do you mind if I ask where it’s from? Adorable!!!
Elizabeth Quill says
The new warmup is tough! I thought it was just my instructor- I could barely finish the arms this morning!
dallaswoodburn says
That looks like such a lovely weekend, Julie! I love getting shows on DVD because you can totally get sucked in and power through episodes… I get that way every time I watch Friday Night Lights. I can never stop at just one episode!
This weekend, I had fun setting some goals for 2015 and brainstorming projects I want to tackle this year through my “year of living simply” series on my blog: http://daybydaymasterpiece.com/2015/01/05/a-year-of-living-simply/
Eva says
peanut butter latte? holy mother. see you in north carolina tomorrow.
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I usually don’t ask people about what they are wearing and I am not normally a hat person, but that beanie was so cute. Looks like I am a little late to the party though since it is already sold out on amazon! Impressive!
I haven’t watched Homeland yet, but I am always looking for new shows to watch and I will put this on my list. Did you ever watch 24? I was wondering if it is similar to that (intense and dramatic) because I used to love 24!
Natalie says
We were given Homeland for Christmas last year because we had heard it was really good. We only watched the first few because we felt the sex scenes seemed pretty graphic.. We have a 14 year old daughter and felt like we had to keep hitting the pause button if she walked by while it was on. We have a very open floor plan so we decided to postpone watching it. We want to feel comfortable watching something that either the whole family can enjoy, or where we don’t feel we need to pause it every time. I’m curious if there are scenes like that all the way through, or just here and there? We did just start watching Downton Abbey (late comers, I know!) and we love it!
Ashlee says
So quick question. I love barre but there isn’t any classes near me do you think that barre DVDs are worth it? Ps you have the best outfits even your lounging slippers are amazing 🙂
Kate says
Post-holiday blues have definitely set in for me, ugh! But that pizza and pie looks amazing, hope it lifted your spirits a bit 🙂
