At lunchtime today I finally tried naan!
For those of you not in the know about naan (like me as of two days ago), it is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread that basically rocked my taste buds!
I’ve seen naan for sale at the grocery store forever, but always passed it up because it looked somewhat dry and flavorless to me.
I finally tried naan thanks to some samples I received from the kind people at Stonefire and fell in love.
It was doughy. Smoky. Flavorful. Airy. Delicious!
Honestly, it was even fun to eat! I felt like a two-year-old, as I picked off the "bubbly" pieces of the naan to eat first. (I do this with pizza, too.)
I had plans to use the naan to make a cheesy pizza of sorts, but once I tasted it, I just wanted to gobble it up and ate it with a side of hummus for dipping.
I ate Stonefire’s whole grain tandoori naan and loved that it was packed with protein and fiber.
Ten grams of protein and eight grams of fiber in one naan! Sweet!
I already have a breakfast idea for naan swimming around in my brain.
Room Update
I finally started reading Room, the book we all selected for the PBF Book Club, last night and it’s pretty interesting. I’m not very far at all, but I want to discuss it with you guys already! I suppose we must wait until October 3 – the official “discussion date” – but I’m antsy! Who is this “Old Nick” guy!? (<— Don’t answer that.)
The Sing Off
Moving right along…
I am in love with Straight No Chaser, an a cappella group that originated at Indiana University (any IU readers out there?), and can’t get enough of a cappella music in general, so I am super pumped that the new season of The Sing Off premiered last night!
(Please go listen to Straight No Chaser’s version of the 12 Days of Christmas if you’ve never listened to it before. Phenomenal!)
I basically listen to every a cappella song out there with my mouth open and love watching the different a cappella groups compete and perform songs from all different genres on The Sing Off.
I have been listening to this song performed by The YellowJackets last night on The Sing Off all day today (fast forward to 2:06 for the beginning of the song).
It’s such a happy and fun song!
Great music for powering through your daily to-do list!

The Yellow Jackets! They’re from the university I interned at this summer! Thanks for posting, and go U of R!

I went to IU! Straight No Chaser serenaded my sorority in or living room once! Pretty cool! 🙂

I CANNOT BELIEVE that you’ve never tried naan!??!?! It’s a staple at any indian restaurant!!! I’m glad you’ve discovered it and love it though! And keep up with Room – the beginning is weird and I kept saying, “WHAT is going on here!?!?” haha but it will all be clear.
Kaitlyn @ Almond Oats. says
Naan is so delicious. This post makes me want Indian food!
Sophie says
Mmm I love naan, I had some today with an aubergine and green bean curry :-). You should try a garlic one or an extra spicey and herby one, they’re delicious too!

I am an IU alum – and LOVE SNC. I love it that you know them too 🙂 And naan pizza: you must try – a.mazing.
GO Hoosiers!
K says
looks like you have a ton of IU readers! I’m at IU as well, and I went to SNC’s first concert after they got their record deal – so awesome! I’m in love 🙂 As other people have said, they used to come serenade my sorority, sing at our philanthropies, etc. (well the collegiate group did) My favorite song is Insomniac 🙂
Also, HUGE creeper note for a second, but now that you mention that a few of your best friends went to IU… I have been convinced that I recognized one of the girls that shows up in a lot of your pictures. I don’t know her name, but every time you post a picture with her in it I remember her from either a class, or just something else, I can’t pick it out haha. sorry, TOTAL creeper!
Alaina says
I LOVE naan. I had some recently that was filled with coconut. It was the best. 🙂
And I LOVE Straight No Chaser! They are coming back to Boston and I’m hoping to see them again. 🙂

I love naan!!!! So so much. I have a recipe on my blog for the most delicious homemade healthy naan. To. Die. For. Love your blog by the way. I just barely started mine so I am new to this thing. 🙂

Damn my gluten allergy! Haha

I can’t believe you hadn’t tried naan before! I LOVE it… I swear sometimes I get curry just to dip it in it! My 8yr old son loves getting naan chickpea wraps at the mall…
As for The Room… it hooks you in doesn’t it!?! I HAD to keep reading to find out what was going on. It evoked many emotions in the beginning, especially since I work with kids that don’t have it very easy… I read this last year, and look forward to the recap at the end of the month, with comments!!

I am from Indiana and I was president of my college a cappella group so I am also OBSESSED with a cappella and Straight No Chaser 🙂 This song was soo powerful, I wish the guys at my school sang a powerful song like that!!
Mae says
Naan is so good, and I agree about the bubbly pieces! I used to work for a campus ministry and would make naan for 30+ students using this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/naan/detail.aspx
It is relatively easy and inexpensive to make, but you would probably have to make some adjustments if you want it to have the same nutritional value as that other stuff.

I recently read room, about a month or two ago? It took me a little while to get used to the young childs voice but I ended up loooving it! Naan is the best, my boyfriend and I will buy it for ourselves as a special treat!
Khushboo says
Haha cute title! Naan is amazing with garlic butter- YUM!
Taylor says
I’m also an IU reader-SNC is AMAZING!!! can’t wait for their christmas show 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I too love Naan! I also like to just warm it up in the oven for a few minutes and eat it plain or with a bit of peanut butter. Yum yum! I think I know what I’m adding to the grocery list again… 😉
Elizabeth says
woohoo for naan! I live in India and people actually don’t eat it much at all because it’s complicated to make. What you should do is combine two of your loves: crockpot meals and naan! Make dahl makhani in the crockpot (so easy) and use the naan for dippage! So much protein and soo tasty!
Gina B. says
This is one of my all time favorite songs! The original, by K’naan (haha Naan! You have a theme this week 😉 ) is awesome! I seriously play it on repeat 3-4 times during my long runs, and convinced my spin instructor/friend to play it during some of his classes!
Nikki says
Have you heard of BOCA?? (Best of College Acapella) Its a CD that comes out every year with the best songs from schools across the US- you definitely need to check it out!
It’s Amazing!!!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
Naan is amazing. It’s also great dipped in balsamic and olive oil.
I started reading The Room this weekend. OMG! I was seriously wondering how I’d get through it (since I have a 4 year old stepson), but now that I’m half way through, I’m ok. Great book.

I was clueless to PBF book club! So cool!

I LOVE the Sing Off! Loved Committed from last season. Soo good!
I wish I had tried naan before I had to go gluten-free. But, with how much people rave about it, maybe I’m glad I don’t know how good it is.
Laura @ Unchartered 20s says
Naan is an amazing bread! I love to dip it in dinners that are saucy- but particularly indian dishes!
Do you like Room so far? I read it a little while ago and I found it a little bit hard to get into because of the child’s voice that is telling the story. It gets better though. Happy reading!
peanutbutterfingers says
i’m actually really enjoying it! i heard that a lot of people didn’t like it at first, but i really had no problem getting into it right away – thank goodness!
Nina @ Sweating It says
I love the Sing Off as well! Not only do I love a cappella, but Ben Folds is one of my favorite artists under the sun. I was really into Delilah! they gave me chills! I was kind of dubious at first because I’m not really into the “supergroup” idea, but man, they were awesome.
Excited to watch the third season with you!
Elise says
Love Naan. I cant beleive I never thought of using it for Pizza, I will try it for sure.
