Valentine’s Day in the Fagan household was low key and lovely!
I surprised Ryan with a ridiculous “Happy Valentine’s Day” display on our garage door.
In our household, the cheesier, the better!
Ryan and I are big sign people and like to leave signs on the door to welcome each other home after a trip away or congratulate each other after something neat happens, so I figured I’d up the ante a bit and he got a big kick out of it!
After dinner, we exchanged our $20 gifts!
And yes, Ryan wrapped my gifts in a popcorn tin that we saved from Christmas. We never buy new wrapping paper or gift bags when we give gifts to each other and just reuse the gift bags that we’ve received from others, so it’s always interesting to see what our gifts look like. I laughed out loud when I saw the popcorn tin!
My gifts from Ryan included a super soft pink t-shirt, gum (I am a gum-chewing maniac) and awesome neon Reebok socks!
The socks totally reminded me of the Lisa Frank notebooks I used to own as a kid and the fourth grade girl inside of me freaked out a little bit!
When I mentioned Lisa Frank, Ryan gave me a rather confused look and told he me had never heard of her. It saddens me to know that his childhood didn’t include neon kitten notebooks and Trapper Keepers adorned with psychedelic seals.
My gifts to Ryan included a book, turkey jerky, his favorite candy, a can of nawgan (he loves this stuff) and a bunch of white chocolate-covered Oreos from a local chocolatier that obviously got inhaled the minute he opened them since they alluded any photographs.
It was a lovely Valentine’s Day!
Workout
Today began nice and early with a sweaty whiteboard-inspired workout at the gym.
Once a week or so, my gym puts a new functional training workout on the whiteboard and today I followed the workout, but added in some upper body exercises as well. It was a good one!
I had a smoothie for breakfast and worked through the morning until it was time for lunch.
Lunch
Lunch today was rather random.
I had a serious craving for ricotta cheese that I couldn’t shake, so pizza toast made with the creamy cheese sounded perfect.
Craving = Satisfied
I also ate a couple of handfuls of salted cashews on the side.
Now it’s time to pack. Off to Sanibel for the weekend!
Happy Friday!
Question of the Afternoon

Have a fun weekend!

Hehe I remember Lisa Frank! And I remember getting so excited whenever a new school year was approaching and my mom would take me to the store to shop for school supplies. Getting a good pencil case, folders, pencils, and notebooks was like a must.
jessica @ fit talker says
I have a rainbow leopard backpack that totally reminded me of Lisa Frank when I got it.
However I accidentally referred to her as Anne Frank. Big difference!!
Lisa says
Oh my gosh, that toast sounds randomly delicious right about now. I love “pizzas” on tortillas, I don’t know why I didn’t think bread would work as well. Haha, that is super cute! Oh man, Lisa Frank brings me back to the good ol’ days. I was so obsessed, especially since we had the same name, so somehow I though that made me cooler?;) Makes total sense.
Lisa says
bhahahaha! me too! 🙂 Lisa’s are way cool!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness says
Lisa Frank!! I had a massive sticker collection in 5th grade.
Amanda B says
I feel like I had every piece of Lisa Frank school merchandise that was ever made. I also had Trapper Keepers! 🙂 LOVED THEM. My favorite piece was a Lisa Frank eraser that was rainbow striped. That was at the time when I “collected” erasers. Bhaha!
Julia @ Smile More Miles says
I love Lisa Frank. I definitely had the notebooks and trappers. Ryan missed out not knowing about such a wonderful thing.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I freaking LOVED Lisa Frank stuff! It was the best!
And that pizza toast sounds awesome! I’ve been craving cottage cheese and was so excited when I found lactose free cottage cheese. I tried a few bites one night and it still made me sick – BUMMER! The craving continues…
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
haha love the sign, I should have done something like that at our apartment complex to really embarrass my boyfriend :). Oh how I love Lisa Frank! I so wish we could bring that back!

i can’t believe ryan has never heard of lisa frank. what a poor deprived child he must have been! i used to have lisa frank pencils, erasers, and folders for school – loved the bright neon colors.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
It saddens my psychedelic, Lisa Frank-loving heart that Ryan doesn’t know who Lisa Frank is. I think you need to expose him to some fine art 😉
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Love the sign and how you guys got each other nice little personalized things instead of traditional flowers and stuff. (Not that those aren’t nice too!) Thank you for reminding me I need to get ricotta cheese at the grocery. I’m making lasagna next weekend. Have fun in Sanibel!
Evan says
Come on now, even I had Lisa Frank notebooks.
Natalie @ Free Range Human says

Sonia the Mexigarian says
Oh. My. Goddess. I LOVED Lisa Frank!!!! Heck yes I had pencil, notebooks, trapper keeps, pencil cases, posters and stickers…. yeah, it drove my mom nuts. I think she is still scraping a Lisa Frank sticker off the inside of my closet door. . . .
So cute with the sign! I love how you budgeted $20 for gifts. I so have to do that next time. I spent a little much this time around getting him an SF Giants/49er hat and shirt.

Just had to say hi to a fellow Sonja (even if you spell it wrong) 😉

Ahhh love your garage door Valentine’s Day display! I’m sure your neighbours must be pleased to have such a festive girl living on their street:)
I had a huge craving for ricotta last week too and made this – http://potatoesandpilates.blogspot.ca/2013/02/avocado-and-ricotta-toast-with-cilantro.html
Totally recommend if you are an avocado fan!
Katie says
I must say…that pizza toast looks pretty awesome for how simple it is.
I actually never liked Lisa Frank stuff for some reason when I was little, even though EVERYONE had that stuff. Seeing it now makes me really happy though since it was EVERYWHERE when I was younger.
Annette@FitnessPerks says
HAHA. Totally had tons of Lisa Frank stuff. So awesome 🙂
LOVE those socks!
April @BarbellsandBellinis says
I love the functional training workouts! I do a lot of 21-15-9s, and each time I repeat a series, I try to beat my previous time. Its a great way to push yourself through an intense workout in a short amount of time.
Brittany @ Barr & Table says
1. I cannot believe Ryan doesn’t know about Lisa Frank! Although I’m not sure my fiance would either haha
2. Have a great time in Sanibel! I love it there and Captiva 🙂

I almost died when I read the work “trapperkeeper”… OMG buying the perfect lisa frank folders and trapperkeepers before school started each fall was once of the most important parts of back to school shopping as a kid!!!
Chelsea @ CrazyBullies says

Jessica says
I loved Lisa Frank! It was the thing to buy Lisa Frank stickers and then trade with my friends, like boys with baseball cards. I think I still have my sticker box at my parent’s house.
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
I HAD that notebook, with the tiger on it. I loved Lisa Frank. It was the jam when I was like 8. Hah!
I also got my husband that reeces heart thing. I like your socks! I would so wear those everywhere.
Lauren says
I just found a bunch of lisa frank things in my room upstairs. Like you, I never used any of them because the colors just kind of freaked me out a bit; however, I always demanded I have the newest notebook or one with my favorite animal. Spoiled, oops. lol
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
LOVED Lisa Frank and I am WAY older than you! She has been around for a long time. Anyway, I wish I could post a picture on here because I actually collected Lisa Frank stickers as a child and still have them all. (several 100) I handed them down to my daughter many years ago, but she just doesn’t seem to have the same obsession that I did. Thanks for the reminder of a fun childhood memory. 🙂
Maureen says
Lisa Frank was what my childhood revolved around! So awesome!
I had a similar craving for blue cheese last night that carried over to today. In the past 24 hours I have topped the following with blue cheese- turkey breast, green beans & a sweet potato! I’m sure my breath smells amazing! 😉
Summer Coleman says
Something similiar happened at Christmas with a Caboodle. We got one for my neice with nothing in it and I was bummed because we couldn’t find “The Whole Kit & Caboodle” and the look “Oh! That’s where that phrase came from”look on his face was priceless. He had no idea. Lots of laughs ensued!
Shelly says
Love LOVE LOVE the socks!! I bought some similar but stripy looking! Love getting your email everyday and reading about your day 🙂
Caroline Poe @ Capture the Cadence says
Oh dear! Ryan had never heard of Lisa Frank?! I cannot believe that 😉 My favorite Christmases, Easter’s and Valentine’s were ones fillllled to the brim with Lisa Frank stationary! Thanks for throwin’ it back for me.

We need this blender because ours just died and my kids are begging for green monsters! Lol

Who doesn’t know the amazingness of Lisa Frank?? Seriously.
Those socks are seriously awesome.

I got a Lisa Frank scrapbook kit for my birthday one year and it made my life! Urban Outfitters currently has a “rare vintage” Lisa Frank collection. I should have saved all of my stuff…it’s probably worth money 😉
Cecilia @MommiesRUn says
I used to be obsessed with Lisa Frank stuff. I seem to recall a pattern with a poodle that was my favorite! Cute $20 gift idea! Hubby and I just spoil the kids on V day now, but we’re going for dinner tonight!
Stephanie - A Girl and Her Manny says
That blender would be the perfect replacement for my Magic Bullet that is dying a slow, painful death :-(.
By the way, I’m going to steal your sign tradition. Love it!

O.M.G. I was OBSESSED with Lisa Frank as a kid (I might still be using her stuff if a)they still made it b) it was appropriate for my professional appearance haha). I had a good laugh reminiscing about my Lisa Frank obsession, so thanks 😉 haha
Also, I love how you and Ryan did a low-key Valentine’s Day. Sweet, simple and genuine! Have a great weekend!

Oh my, I think I might wear the crown for Lisa Frank obsession! Luckily I have a friend that was the same way and we still give each other LisA Frank knick-knacks when we find them! I even remember having a custom Lisa Frank birthday cake!… Ohh the memories
Brittany says
Lisa Frank was the bee’s knees when I was in grade school! I must have had every thing you could get from her. My mom hated taking me to the store because I would always end up wanting a new Lisa Frank item. My favorite item had to be my Lisa Frank backpack….I wonder what happened to that? That was a nice stroll down memory lane 🙂
Denise Absil says
Hi Julie!
I have been reason your blog for at least two years now I think! I have never commented on anything before here but this give away just gave me that extra push! I am in need of a blender so I can make my own healthy smoothies!;) Yours always look so tasty! I just wanted to tell u that I always look forward to getting your peanut butter emails and am always inspired by your workouts and recipes! Thanks for taking the time to do
this! You and your blog are awesome! 🙂
Avery @ Southern Belle Living Well says
Lisa Frank was just starting to fade when I was growing up, but I still remember the impossibly tiny spiral noteboks and pens!
Beks says
To be fair, Ryan is a boy, and most boys probably didn’t want multi-colored lunch boxes or pencil toppers. Especially neon.
I LOVED Lisa Frank. Thought she was awesome, and I didn’t care who knew it. I remember when the popular girl in my class, Mollie, decided that Lisa Frank wasn’t *gasp* cool, the other girls dropped poor Lisa like a hot potato for Elmo and Sesame Street. I continued to rock my Lisa Franks because my mom didn’t feel the need to buy me new stuff based on what was popular, and in turn, this made me look like a rebel (thanks, mom!).
BTW, last night, my mom and I made your Crock Pot Chicken Masala and Chickpeas and it was AWESOME! She made it, and forgot coconut milk, so she subbed coconut greek yogurt. Still works. LOL 🙂
