So how are you? I’d love to know! For those with little ones in school, how are you feeling about the school year coming to a close? I absolutely love the boys’ schools but I am R-E-A-D-Y for summer. I am ready for a more laidback schedule, mornings that don’t involve a mad rush out the door, lots of pool time with friends, lake days, beach time and travel!
The next few weeks feel jam-packed with end-of-the-year activities and I’m doing my best to juggle three schedules and find childcare to make attending various school functions work. I used to be able to bring Rhett to the boys’ school events but those days are gone now that he has a mind of his own.
Long story short: Rhett joined me at an art event at Chase’s school last month and it was a horrific disaster. He wanted to play with the teacher’s ceramic school bus pencil holder and I wouldn’t let him and he dissolved into screaming tears. I’m the meanest, I know. Fast forward to a birthday party two weeks ago, I had a mom say I should bring Rhett to Chase’s upcoming Water Day and when I asked if she remembered the screaming child at the art event, she said, “Oh man! That was yours!?” and burst out laughing. It was… memorable… and I learned my lesson.
So, anyway, summer is clearly at the top of my mind! Another thing at the top of my mind: The new house! I promised to share more with you guys and, after a few months of not too much to share (aka plumbing, electric work and inspections), visual elements will begin to unfold again making sharing more fun again!
Up first: Our bluestone porches!
I love the way these are coming together and there are a few small details making me extra happy like our flush entrance (aka no step up into the house) and the thick bluestone slabs on the steps.
Also, the front door in the above pic and the side porch door below will match the other windowed doors you see in the pic above and the siding and brick in the photos still need to be painted. Selecting exterior paint colors is on our to-do list!
We know for sure we want a primarily white home but I’m very picky about whites and don’t want something too stark white or bluey. We saw one home in Florida we liked a few weeks ago and I creepily asked the owners their paint color and they told us it was White Dove by Benjamin Moore so that is a front runner!
In terms of exterior style, whenever people ask what our home style is I never know what to say. We’re planning on a mix of white painted siding and white hardy board, blue-green shutters, stained wood doors and a limewash brick foundation. We’ll see how it all unfolds! And if you know how to describe this style, please let me know so I can stop mumbling a bunch of different things that probably make no sense when anyone asks.
Also, here is a link to my Pinterest board for the exterior of our home which probably provides the best glimpse into the style we like: NB Exterior. (“NB” = New Build which is how I started all of the Pinterest Boards I created for this home since I previously had older home inspo boards.)
I’m trying hard to select things I genuinely love for our home and not be too influenced by current trends as this will be a home we hope to be in for a very, very long time.
And I think I’ve rambled along enough for one morning! I hope you guys have a great Wednesday and I’d love to see ya back here for Friday’s roundup of favorites. Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

We painted our exterior brick Creamy by Sherwin Williams. I wanted a softer creamy white and it reminds me of Breyers creamy ice cream!

Thanks for sharing!! I’ll look into this one, too. Sooo many pretty whites out there — so hard to choose the “perfect” one!

We have used Alabaster White from Sherwin Williams inside and out.

That is my current frontrunner for our interior walls!

For interior walls, we used Swiss Coffee throughout. Love how it’s all coming together!! Will you share the floor plans soon?!

I teach first grade and to be honest, little siblings coming to events is one of our least favorite things 😬 no offense obviously! It sounds like you’ve already learned why! 😂 we sure appreciate you!
I love all the house updates!
Julie says
oooh yes, definitely learned my lesson on that one big time!!

Not that you need more white paint options lol but we just chose SW Pearly White for the interior of our new build and I love it! We kept saying we didn’t want “operating room white” and this one fit the bill. Excited to continue to see your house progress! We’re hoping to move into our new build next week and each day is a true test of patience at this point haha!

I really love those porches! The stone looks great.
I have a color I do NOT recommend for interior. We built our house about 7 years ago and fell in love with Benjamin Moore Clay Beige. It looked like the perfect mix of neutral greyish beige. We painted the whole interior this color. In our house it came out very yellow. Not pretty at all. We have slowly been repainting the interior : ( and only have a few rooms left in this color. Make sure to try large swatches of interior color on multiple walls/ lighting situations.

our Rhett’s are weeks apart and let me tell you, PHEW! This stage of toddlerhood is equal parts wonderful and challenging, heart melting and stress inducing! I have a 6 yr old daughter and let me tell you, their toddler phases are NIGHT AND DAY! I have to parent my Rhett in a completely different way then my daughter, at this age. I lost sight of him at a crowded outdoor food truck/live music venue last night, and completely went into panic mode, if this was my daughter, I think my reaction wouldn’t have been so terrifying because she wasn’t a runner or wouldn’t ever go that far, but these boys! HOLY COW, they can get places FAST! Hang in there mama! I’ve never considered leashing my child until this one came around! LOL
