Getting caught up is what Mondays are all about around here.
I spent the morning at the computer as usual and eventually broke for lunch around noon.
I fixed myself a simple roast beef sandwich on toasted honey wheat bread with melted muenster cheese, mustard and spinach.
Sides included another sliced pear and my new favorite chips!
Have any of you guys tried Popcorners chips?
I bought them on a whim last week and am so impressed!
They are perfectly crunchy and packed with flavor without being greasy. I can’t wait to try more flavors, though I’m a little obsessed with the kettle flavor and will have a hard time not just buying that one over and over again.
Bathing Suits: A No on the Ruching
After lunch, I got around to trying on the bathing suits that arrived in the mail for me over the weekend.
I ordered two different bikinis from Victoria’s Secret in hopes of having a new suit for our upcoming cruise at the end of the month. I haven’t purchased a new bathing suit in several years. I tend to order them online and buying a bikini online is quite a guessing game, so they often get returned.
Fortunately one of the suits is a keeper, but the other one was definitely not.
Riiight.
That bathing suit looked like it offered a lot more coverage online and I didn’t notice the ruching down the middle of the butt on the Victoria’s Secret website. What is that? A stitched-in butt crack?
I’m sure it would look adorable on some, but on me it looked ridiculous and it’s already packed up and ready to be sent back.
I’m just glad I got one winner! I’m so picky when it comes to bathing suits (aren’t we all?), so I was relieved to at least find one that will do.
Back to work!
Question of the Afternoon
- Where do you typically buy your bathing suits?
I typically get my suits from Victoria’s Secret or Target. I love the suits at Everything But Water, but they come with a hefty price tag!
Leslie says
Jcrew always has great suits. I have had good luck every time I order, and really enjoy the fold down bottom styles. And the best part is they don’t cut you off in weird areas. 🙂
Laura @ LauraLikesDesign says
I love those PopCorners! The white cheddar flavor are my favorites!
Ooo that ruching would be rather uncomfortable! What does the suit you kept look like?
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
Umm..nowhere. I hate bathings suits! Just kidding..kind of. I don’t like ’em but I still wear them. I found a couple cute ones at JCPenney last year when we went to Florida. And I had a tankini from Target that I loved, but ripped.
I love the VS bathing suits but they’re not made for my body 🙂
Heather says
I feel the same way about buying bikinis online, it’s a hit or miss. Fortunately for VS, you can return it for free in-store so I’ve done that with a couple items.
One thing I love about VS is their padding for the tops! Nothing like some security when the ocean/pool is a little colder than you thought 😉
Cait @ Cait Hates Cake says
I buy my suits from Victoria’s Secret, too. I usually buy several in hopes that at least one fits and I’ll return the rest. Shopping online is a pain, but their clearance section prices cannot be beat.
Gina says
I wish you posted the bathing suit you kept! (Not while wearing it though haha) I love getting ideas from other people. I rarely buy bathing suits, but when I do it’s from random places online. Last one I bought was from VodaSwim…for almost $100, but it was SO worth it! Great quality
Elizabeth @ Chocolate Drops and Pearls says
let’s see the bathing suit that you did keep!
I really like everything but water for bathing suits. They have a bunch of different brands so it’s a guarantee you will find something you like 🙂
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
There’s no way I could buy a bathing suit online because I HAVE to try them on! I bought a Victoria Secret bathing suit back in high school, and it looked horrible on me.
I often buy mine at Mayc’s, but I’ve also bought them at Pac Sun, Target, Old Navy, and Banana Republic. 🙂
Chelsa says
Ohh I love the pattern on that bathing suit, it really is too bad that it didn’t work out for you. I buy mine all over the place. I like VS suits and just random ones that I find on vacation. I need to go through my swim drawer and toss some oldies because it’s overflowing.
Jessica @ Fit Talker says
I will admit that I was eyeing a suit at walmart the other day. I think it was Ocean Pacific (OP) which was totally a cool brand when I was in middle school. 🙂
I have bought a bunch from VS but they’re kind of hit or miss and I HATE that I have to pay return shipping and can’t return to the store (if this changed, let me know).
Pop Corners are sooooo good. The cheddar jalapeno is my obsession. Cheesy with a bit of heat!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
haha i have a booty, so the ruching would be a no-go for me too! i need full coverage on the bottom! i usually buy suits from target or VS too!! i like the price tag on target’s suits, and i like the quality of VS’s suits.
Chelsea says
I love all my target suits 🙂
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
J.Crew makes my favorite bandeau bikinis. My absolute favorite bikini I got from Victorias Secret:
http://urbanupdater.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/V297567.jpg
I can’t remember the brand that made it but it was pricey! Definitely my big bikini splurge.
Nescett @ bananaoats says
I love the bum stitching! It’s so cute and flattering. 🙂 I want to see a photo of the one you kept.
Corrie Anne says
J.Crew is my fave, but I have some from VS too!
Lisa says
I always order off of VS. Ick to ruching, I don’t really like that style too much. The look these days seems to be barely any coverage on your bum or a faux bum crack. Um no thank you? That’s a little weird. I haven’t really seen anything yet but that’s also because its too cold where I am to start looking 😉
Julie says
Lands End has such good quality swim suits for reasonable prices. I do have one bikini from VS and I like it.
Nicole says
It’s a cute pattern, but I agree, needs a little more material!!!
I just dropped $90 on a top alone at Everything But Water last week… ughh. I’ve got a big bust though, and finding a swimming suit top that’s modest but not frumpy is seriously difficult, so I caved!
Nicole says
Ha, I agree that it’s a guessing game with ordering bathing suits online. I’ve had the same experience with VS bathing suits – sometimes they wind up being super tiny, other times they’re too big. But everything looks so cute in the catalogs so I still can’t help myself from ordering from there!
Amanda @ Click. The Good News says
I have bought so many suites in the last few years from Athleta and Title IX. They have some great fun & functional pieces and great patterns/colors.
Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves says
I buy my suits from target and Dillards, usually and the end of season on clearance! Last year I bought 9 new suits, and I know not one of them cost me over $25.
Melissa says
That’s, um, sexy? I usually get mine from VS, too, but it’s hit or miss. I know now which style I like, so I have a few in different colors. Now that I know the sizing, that helps a ton! But I agree, it’s so hard to know what’s going to work without trying on.
Caitlin @ This Bride's Joyride says
White cheddar Popcorners are my FAVORITE!!! Try them, way better than Kettle 🙂
I have gotten all of my bathing suits from Target.
Nicole says
Target, Marshalls, Gilly Hicks are my go-tos for suits. I am tempted to try Athleta this summer.
Erika says
I have to be honest – I hate bathing suit shopping in general but if I have to buy one it would be from Target or Lands End. I think I will need a new one for this summer and I am dreading trying them on!
Carly @ Cooking With Carly says
Sheesh, I guess everyone reading this post today was blessed with a bodacious boot-ay! The ruching (also called “scrunch butt”) down the middle is for those of us with zero junk in the trunk, to create the illusion of a butt. I actually go as far as to do it myself on all of my bathing suit bottoms using a safety pin. Sad, I know.
Tiina says
I was at the beach yesterday and saw a girl rocking the stitched-in butt crack… I don’t understand that style at all!
I usually hit TJ Maxx or Marshalls for a new suit, although its even more hit or miss than a regular store. The bargain hunting is a fun challenge!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
My most recent bathing suits are from Old Navy and American Eagle, but I’d like to get a new one from Victoria’s Secret for my honeymoon. The problem is, it’s hard to tell how they fit by looking at the model online. I’m bigger on the bottom than I am on the top, pretty much the opposite of a Victoria’s Secret model!
Carrie @ Lift Eat Repeat says
I shop the clearance rack at Swim and Run shop- some great deals & great quality too!!
From Shopping to Saving says
I’d love to see the bathing suit you ended up choosing! I have wide hips and a small waist and upper body so any inspiration or ideas helps!
I usually get my bathing suits at Target too! But then I see a lot of people with them…and that gets kinda embarrassing. My last bikini I purchased was from Asos.
Elise says
Look at CIA Maritima. They are a Brazilian company and they have the coolest suits. Just make sure you order the American style bottom.
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
I just discovered those Popcorners last week too through Foodie Pen Pals and am hooked! The Kettle are so delicious! Yay for finding a cute swimsuit for your trip. But ugh about the other one– I think that stitching is supposed to be sexy but I always think it just looks awkward!
Katy @ A Shot of Life says
I agree with you on the ruching and I’m the exact same way with swimsuits! I usually order from VS and at least half of them go back. 🙁 I did just buy a cute one at Abercrombie & Fitch though, and if money wasn’t an option, the Australian company Seafolly has ADORABLE suits!
Coco says
VS is too expensive for me. I am a Target bathing suit girl all the way!
Kat says
<3 Popcorners. They have them as a snack option on Jet Blue flights. PacSun can have some cute bathing suits – key word "can." Some are a bit "pre-teen," but some are more simple and cute…lots of the surf brands. VS is usually where it's at though!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
Haha that bottom is really weird!!!!
I normally get mine at TJ Maxx! I live at the shore at the summer so their bathing suit section is always stocked!
Melanie says
Ba haha! A built in butt crack that is so dead on! You are too funny. I ordered my swimsuit last summer from VS and loved it and ironically have one coming my way right now too. I am crossing my fingers I like it too.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I need to try Popcorners! I love to have chips with my lunch, & these sound like they could be a good option!
I love J. Crew swimsuits!
peanutbutterfingers says
yes you do! i am in love!
Heather says
I have a free pair of panties from VS that have that rouching in the butt – cracks me up. But I agree on the bathing suit bottom – scary.
I have had the best luck with swim suits the past few years at Nordstrom. Probably because I like having someone to help me, a huge nice dressing room, and the selection is nice but not overwhelming (I can’t stand having too much to look at – it overwhelms me)
Brittany *Sparkles* says
hahaha oh dear I have those bottoms and they’re MY FAVORITE! I have a bit of a bubble butt and don’t mind showing it off a lil, there are a bunch of string bikinis way more revealing 🙂 Buying swimwear online is hard though I typically order a few to try on, then when I find one I love I get a few colors!
Katie says
Those bottoms would bug me too! Well I live in Utah where it is very frowned upon to wear a bikini at all (some pools won’t let you in if you are wearing one)… I like Target swimsuits, one pieces that flatter my curves. VS does have some cute ones but I like to try mine on so I rarely buy from them (we don’t have one anywhere close to us).
Ali says
I LOVE popcorners! The regular sea salt ones are really good and I also like the white cheddar kind 🙂
Raychel says
I totally agree with you about the ruching… the weirdest part is that my husband told me he thinks it’s hot! All I see is a sewed in butt crack like you said, EW!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my gosh, i LOVE that you said that! ryan made me try it on for him after he got home from work after reading my post and loved it, too! ha! it’s still going back…
Chloe says
I had the same problem with V-Secret and the ruching bottom… THat is something I cannot wear.. It’s not practical!
Lori Z. says
I also have lots of suits from VS but I really wish the stores carried more. I would prefer to try them on first…
Last time I ordered from VS there was a paper in the shipment saying you could now return items at a store. One of the tops I got was too big and I was able to take it to the store and they sent it back and the smaller one was shipped to me. Sure saves on postage!
Melissa @ Some Sugar Added says
I love Popcorners! The jalapeno flavor is really good too
Jessica says
JCrew has a great selection of colors and styles, especially online. They aren’t too skimpy, but aren’t too momish or grandma either. 🙂
Anne says
I always get mine at victoria’s secret or target too. Sometimes old navy. I really really LOVE J Crew bathing suits, but usually hold out for them to go on sale
That looks like a super cute print–but the ruching is probably best to be reserved for itty bitty girlies. As in 5 year olds.
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
Bathing suit shopping can be quite stressful, especially online! I always end up returning some because the sizing is so strange and the colors often appear different on the website! I have to agree with the ruching though, it does look kind of funny 😉
Natalie says
Hey! Just so you know you can bring your online order return into the store and they can send it back to the VS Distribution center free of charge! All you need is the item and your order form. Takes 2 mins max. Just a little tip from a VS associate!
peanutbutterfingers says
PERFECT! thank you, natalie! i’m definitely doing this!
