This weekend was all about productivity for the Fagan family! We spent the vast majority of our Saturday and Sunday cleaning and organizing around house but in between deep cleaning our master bathroom (much needed!), working in the yard and making multiple trips to Lowe’s, we somehow managed to have some fun, too!
Here’s a little peek into our weekend:
- Date Night at Bonefish Grill
The highpoint of our weekend occurred on Friday night when Ryan and I headed out for a date night at Bonefish Grill!
A little more than a month ago, Bonefish Grill reached out to me with an invitation to sample a few goodies from their new IN + ON Bar Bites menu and we finally got around to planning a night out on Friday!
I broke into my latest Stitch Fix box and wore two items from my first maternity fix.
If you send me a giant cape-like sweater during this super-awkward stage in pregnancy, I will absolutely wear it! My belly just looks super thick right now and lacks the cute, rounded baby bump shape, so giant sweaters/tunics are my best friend. This poncho sweater was ridiculously comfortable and will also continue to work when I actually do have a big baby bump underneath!
And the maternity zip leggings are right up my alley. Leggings with a little flare? Yes, please!
Ryan and I began our meal with drinks – a blackberry mocktail for me, please!
We then selected an assortment of appetizers from the IN + ON Bar Bites menu to try.
(Clockwise from left to right: Oyster Shooter, Lobster Taco, Mac + Cheese Bites)
Ryan was a big fan of the shooter – neither of us had ever seen anything like it before – and I was bummed I wasn’t able to try it since raw oysters are off the table for me right now. He raved about it!
The lobster taco was my favorite bite, as it was served in a crispy wonton taco shell which I thought was really innovative and also quite delicious! We shared the mac + cheese bites that came out in a bed of sweet chili sauce that definitely added to the flavor of the dish. They were very cheesy and we had no problem polishing off every last one before our entrées came out.
For my main meal, I went a bit out of character and ordered the burger! Yes, a burger at a seafood restaurant… Let’s roll with it!
I was craving a big, juicy burger like nobody’s business and as someone who could basically eat seafood all day everyday, this totally surprised me! I went with the craving though and I was so, so glad I did because the burger knocked my socks off. Craving = Satisfied!
Ryan went with more classic seafood dishes and ordered the ceviche appetizer and an oyster dish off the seasonal menu. He could not stop raving about the oysters and I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll still be on the menu when I’m no longer pregnant and can order raw oysters again since they’re one of my favorite foods!
We couldn’t leave without ordering something sweet and turned to the IN + ON Bar Bites menu again and selected the doughnut bites for dessert.
This was a great decision and I’m pretty sure Ryan and I will never return to Bonefish Grill again without ordering this dish! They were warm and doughy with a crispy, sugary outside – perfect for dipping in fluffy whipped cream and buttery caramel sauce. Yum!
- Nursery Planning
(Source)
Ryan finished painting the nursery this weekend! Yay! I am so grateful to him for taking over this monotonous task while I straightened up the house and we’re both very pleased with the end result.
The above photos reflect my nursery vision – aka my dream nursery! Even though I’m sure our nursery will not look nearly as gorgeous as my inspiration photos, I’m hoping we can achieve a look that’s neutral and very calming. That’s the goal, anyway! (If you’re in a nursery planning phase right now and love the neutral look as well, you can see more of my nursery inspiration photos on my Baby board on Pinterest.)
- Pizza for Breakfast
On Saturday night, we ordered pizza and watched some of the March Madness games with friends at our house. The leftover pizza made for a great breakfast on Sunday morning! Pizza for breakfast will always be a personal favorite. It takes me back to childhood sleepovers when we’d all dig into cold pizza for breakfast the next morning. Pizza for breakfast doesn’t happen often but when it does, I love every second of it!
- Outdoor Playtime with Sadie
The weather was fantastic in Charlotte this weekend and beckoned to us to spend as much time as possible outside. Sadie was quite a fan of this plan as it meant she was able to enjoy extra rounds of fetch, long walks and playtime at the park.
Question of the Morning
- Tell me about a fun highlight from your weekend!
Elsa says
Looking great Julie despite the “awkward” phase!
Seafood – yum 🙂 Burger – yum 🙂 Date Night – yum 🙂
Our weekend fun highlight? Going to the Zoo! it was overcast in our part of the world so most people gave it a miss, but the animals were all feeling fresh and didn’t hide = bonus for us!
Most fun sighting? You would think the Lions, or the Elephants, or Polar Bears, or… but it was the “MEERKAT” that made us LOL 😉 so curious, energetic, cute and funny!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
What a fun weekend! I love raw oysters too– so I would have been bummed!
Love the leggings with zippers.
I got to go to dinner and drinks in downtown Asheville– which is always a fun night! My hubby is very busy with work right now, so it was a nice treat.
Julie says
We are dying to get to Asheville soon!!! Ryan and I really wanted to visit this past fall or during Christmastime, but never got around to it. Maybe this summer!?
Casie says
When you to make sure to check out Biltmore estate, aka Richie Riches house.
Julia says
I think the sweater cape is very cute. Your commentary on it made me smile. I’m three kids in now but I remember with my first that people kept commenting on my ‘weight gain’ because I didn’t have a cute rounded belly or need maternity pants till 7 months. I just kept getting thick in the waist.
By my third it’s like “Oh, you’re pregnant.” at… three months. I still want the sweater cape too.
Julie says
exactly!! i am hoping a rounded belly comes out sooner rather than later! it’s hard to wear anything other than super drapey clothing right now! 🙂
Caitlyn says
I haven’t been to bonefish in so long – now I’m really missing their sangria and bang bang shrimp!
Gretchen | Gretchruns says
That outfit looks amazing on you! You’re usually in really cute, sporty gear so seeing you in such a grown up and sleek outfit is amazing! You look beautiful! If I’m ever pregnant I’ll have to check out stitchfix 🙂 I love their fixes for me, so I bet I’d love them with a bigger belly! 🙂
Julie says
<3 thank you!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Ohh donut bites sound amazing! And how cute is your maternity outfit? Love! A highlight of my weekend was scoring good deals at the outlets and renting Big Hero 6 with Josh. It was such a cute movie!
Ashley says
It looks like you and Ryan had a great weekend! The color of that sweater is so stunning! I love it!
My weekend was also really productive. Maybe the change of seasons has us all in the mood to CLEAN. I was able to make my first capsule wardrobe, so I’m pretty excited about that!
Have a great Monday!
Brittany @ Lemon Lime Life says
You look fabulous in your latest fix and your date night looks like a blast! Trying new foods is always exciting, especially when it’s delicious!
So happy you created a baby board on Pinterest! I’m checking it out now! Eeek! 🙂
lisa valinsky says
You look gorgeous, Julie! Sounds like a perfect date night.
We had a really mellow weekend with lots of TV and movie watching. The best part? When my husband made awesome, delicious grilled cheese sandwiches with sourdough bread and sharp cheddar. It’s the little things. 🙂
Tara J says
I met my husband up in the Colorado mountains where he was working all week, so we treated ourselves to a little weekend get-away! The weather was beautiful and I enjoyed my last round of XC skiing at 6 months pregnant!
sam @ grapefruit & granola says
I love the look of a neutral nursery! A highlight from this weekend was going back home for a wedding. I had a good time!
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks) says
those leggings!!!! Those are so so cute.
I can’t wait to see the end result of your nursery–I”m sure it will be gorgeous too!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
So glad you guys had such a productive weekend with a little fun thrown in there too! Those can be some of my favorite weekends. It always feels so good to get a bunch of stuff checked off your to-do list. I LOVE the vision you have for your nursery! Very beautiful and seems to go right along with your style. Glad to hear you’ve been making some progress on it! Planning it all is so fun!
Liz says
A highlight from my weekend was definitely the warm weather! I spent a lot of time outdoors with the pups Saturday and Sunday. Also, being able to hang out with my boyfriend! (sounds cliche, but he works all the time and takes care of his grandma, so we don’t get to see each other very often)
Kara Birckhead says
Looks like y’all had a fantastic weekend! Our weekend highlight was celebrating our one year wedding anniversary. We went to the Melting Pot in Greensboro. First time going there & It was SO fun! I felt like a food blogger because I would take a picture of every course so I could show my Mom! haha.
Haley says
I love your nursery inspiration pictures! It looks so peaceful relaxing!
Marielle says
That sweater is adorable, I love the color!! Looks great. My weekend highlight was going out to dinner with some good friends, I always love that! 🙂
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i had my niece audrey for a few hours on sunday and she wanted to wear my shirt (she’s 3 lol) so i gave her one and rolled up the sleeves and tied up the bottom – it was hilarious and adorable!!
Lindsey says
You look great in your outfit! Adorable!! My husband and I live in Jacksonville, FL, so this weekend we went to the UNC vs. Arkansas game! Go Tarheels 🙂 I’m glad you and Ryan had a nice weekend! Can’t wait to see how your nursery turns out!
Jessie @ Just Jessie says
Love those leggings! I need to find some new leggings for the Spring time – most of mine are fleece-lined for Wisconsin winters. 🙂
Kaila says
All of that food looks SOOOOO delicious! It’s making me hungry and I’m actually sitting her eating breakfast as I type this 🙂
Leah (goodnight cheese) says
Those mac & cheese bites look so good!
Anne says
We went to Bonefish Grill for dinner this weekend, too!! Although it’s because this pregnant lady was craving seafood. About week 18 though, I was all about the red meat, which is totally out of character for me. Maybe that’s a time with pregnant women are lacking iron or something.
Laura says
I always get the burger at Bonefish grill with the side salad and it is so good! My favorite thing there is the fresh baked bread and the phenomenal dipping sauce it comes out with! YUM. And how cool is that drink in a cup of ice that Ryan has? I had a cucumber vodka one last summer from there and thought the ice cup was so neat!
As for this weekend I ran 11 miles with my dog in training for a half marathon I have in 3 weeks. I’m pregnant right now and I discovered exercise really seems to help with my nausea (at least while I’m moving, it comes back after I stop!).
Jen in TX says
I love those black heels! May I ask where you purchased them?
Molly D. says
I worked this weekend but I was happy to go to a fun Bachelorette party on Saturday night! It was mainly relatives and the secrets just coming pouring out when alcohol is involved LOL.
I also started T-25 last night and it kicked my booty! I wore my Polar HRM (yes, you inspired this purchase!) and I was so shocked at how many calories I burned and it kept me in the zone for the full 25 minutes, and the cool down worked like a charm. It’s been tough for me lately to spend a lot of time at the gym so the 25 minutes is something I can handle and to be honest, it did more for me in 25 minutes than an hour spent on the treadmill. Crazy!
I’m getting married in June and considering doing StitchFix…do you think they could help with selecting a cute Bridal Shower dress and something for the Rehearsal Dinner?
Julie says
definitely!!! you can leave notes for your stylist and request cute dresses specifically for your rehearsal/bridal shower! they sent me a really cute lace lilac dress when I requested a bridal shower dress to wear to a friend’s shower before!
jan klein says
We had dinner at Bonefish Friday night too! I had a shrimp & scallop hot pot that was delish! Love your nursery inspriration. I have no doubt it will turn out great!
Anita says
Such a pretty nursery! I love the softer color palette, since I’ve never been as much into the super-blue, super-pink thing. Decorating a nursery sounds like such a fun project, to me! 🙂
Always, Anita
Skinny Fitalicious says
Super cute poncho! I’m not pregnant and I wiukd wear one. My weekend was amazing! Discovered a new trail this weekend that I hiked / trail ran on. I was in heaven! Then shipping extravaganza at the outlet and chopped my hair off. It was fun and busy weekend!
pieceofcaitlin says
LOVE the outfit! totally beaming.. just gorgeous <3 … as always!!! 😉
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Bonefish is our go-to date night hot spot! LOVE the bang bang shrimp! Looks like you guys had a lovely date night! Also loving the neutral nursery..that’s my dream as well, lots of pretty/warm beiges, browns, whites, ah, so very comforting!
Sandy W. says
How cute are you!! Those leggings are way cute.
The neutral nursery is gorgeous.
I backed into my husband’s car Saturday morning. So there is that…not exciting. I lead with that to say the most exciting thing I did this weekend was spending time with the kiddos on the soccer field and enjoying the beautiful weather while playing outside with them on Sunday.
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
cute date night outfit. the spring pink is fun!
Heathers Looking Glass says
I hhaatteeddd the awkward in between stage where you just look like you ate way too much but don’t look pregnant yet. It’s so hard to dress for it! Love the outfit!
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
That is great that Stitch Fix has maternity wear – such a smart idea!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Hi Julie! Fun weekend! Mine was great — my in-laws visited so we took them to see a Warriors basketball game, which was a good time. And I thought of you because the half-time performance was about 400 men and women doing Jazzercise!! 🙂
Julie says
aw!!! that’s awesome!! LOVE jazzercise!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
That burger looks pretty good. I bet your nursery is going to be really cute. You have some awesome inspiration to work from.
I had a pretty productive weekend too, I felt like I got lots done.
Alex W says
I LOVE all the neural/light ideas for the nursery!!
Sadie is so adorable!! That pic of her cracks me up!
My dad came out this past weekend and helped my husband get a lot of things done outside at our house and I deep cleaned the whole house and did all the laundry so we were super productive. But my fav part of the weekend was last night when I made chicken noodle soup and then my husband and I went on a long walk around our neighborhood talking about what fun things we have planned this summer.
Happy Monday julie!
Nona @ RunningHigh says
You look great! I spent Saturday night and Sunday in Phoenix with a girlfriend. We had dinner and drinks and stayed in the nicest hotel. It was wonerful to get away for a night!
AC says
I’m a couple weeks ahead of you, I think (23 weeks), and this made me laugh because I “accidentally” ate raw oysters during my first trimester. My office holiday party had this amazing raw seafood spread and I kept putting them in my mouth, remembering I was pregnant, and then trying to discreetly spit them out. (I did eat a couple, and it was fine, ha.)
I miss them, too. Steamed just isn’t the same!
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
I’ve been missing oysters throughout this whole pregnancy! For the superbowl my friends had a party that included a personal oyster shucker. Seriously. And I couldn’t partake at all! It was such a bummer!!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust says
Your Stitch Fix was definitely a success. How gorgeous are you!??? Can’t wait to see the other items in your fix. 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only one obsessed with burgers. I eat at least one a week. The highlight of my weekend was buying a new house!!! After finding out we were pregnant, I had the sudden urge to move and find our “dream home” and place where we could raise a family. I can’t wait to start working on the nursery!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles says
How nice! It looks like you guys really had a great weekend!
And, I don’t care what you say… Even in your “awkward” pregnancy stage you are still adorable!
Highlight this weekend? Lounging poolside at my friend’s house is topping the list.
Great post! 🙂
Skigirl0891 says
Girl, you do not need to hide under a cape! Looking fab! This coming from the twin mom-to-be that measured “full term”-for a singleton-at 24 weeks! And I was thin/athletic to start! Fun part of the weekend, actually talking about taking a vacation with these little ones, if they ever come out that is!
P.s-my nursery is neutral also, I’ll have to share it with ya when completed 🙂
Julie says
Please do!! I’d love to see it!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I love the neutral look you’re going for! I think soft colors are definitely the way to go – and neutral is great because it isn’t “child-like” so you won’t have to change it if you don’t want to as your child grows up or you have more.
Therese says
Julie, you look fantastic and it sounds like you had a great weekend! I definitely love the neutral nursery look that you are going with because it’s something your child can grow up with. It’s also nice because you can add little pops of color and touches of fun in the room in other ways.
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
One of the highlights of my weekend was taking our pups to walk at a trail we used to live super close to. It was so nice to get back to an old favorite and for some reason, even though it was gorgeous, nobody was there, so it was our own personal trail 🙂
Janet Pole says
I love Bonefish Grill … but the closest to me is 120+ miles away and involve a passport 🙂
I am now thinking ROAD TRIP!!!!!
Susann says
Julie, i just love how you can get so excited about the food. I actually had to laugh out loud so hard – was a little awkward in a train full with people but who cares. I could nearly taste the food myself. Sounds like a nice weekend for the 3 of you. My best moment was that i took some time for me and went out to take some pictures. They turned out great.
Suzanne says
I went to St. Thomas with my husband when I was in that stage. I still wore my bikini to the beach and my workout tanks. I know that some people noticed this while I was at the GYM and thought I was letting myself go, but once we told them the news they were ecstatic! I had twins and feel like I still look like that, but I’m slowly working on it…
I did a hand painted jungle mural for our baby room. I don’t think they notice it yet, but when they do I think it will be fun. They both have monkeys swinging over their beds! And I am so proud of the work my friend, my sister and me did on it!
