This weekend was all about productivity for the Fagan family! We spent the vast majority of our Saturday and Sunday cleaning and organizing around house but in between deep cleaning our master bathroom (much needed!), working in the yard and making multiple trips to Lowe’s, we somehow managed to have some fun, too!
Here’s a little peek into our weekend:
- Date Night at Bonefish Grill
The highpoint of our weekend occurred on Friday night when Ryan and I headed out for a date night at Bonefish Grill!
A little more than a month ago, Bonefish Grill reached out to me with an invitation to sample a few goodies from their new IN + ON Bar Bites menu and we finally got around to planning a night out on Friday!
I broke into my latest Stitch Fix box and wore two items from my first maternity fix.
If you send me a giant cape-like sweater during this super-awkward stage in pregnancy, I will absolutely wear it! My belly just looks super thick right now and lacks the cute, rounded baby bump shape, so giant sweaters/tunics are my best friend. This poncho sweater was ridiculously comfortable and will also continue to work when I actually do have a big baby bump underneath!
And the maternity zip leggings are right up my alley. Leggings with a little flare? Yes, please!
Ryan and I began our meal with drinks – a blackberry mocktail for me, please!
We then selected an assortment of appetizers from the IN + ON Bar Bites menu to try.
(Clockwise from left to right: Oyster Shooter, Lobster Taco, Mac + Cheese Bites)
Ryan was a big fan of the shooter – neither of us had ever seen anything like it before – and I was bummed I wasn’t able to try it since raw oysters are off the table for me right now. He raved about it!
The lobster taco was my favorite bite, as it was served in a crispy wonton taco shell which I thought was really innovative and also quite delicious! We shared the mac + cheese bites that came out in a bed of sweet chili sauce that definitely added to the flavor of the dish. They were very cheesy and we had no problem polishing off every last one before our entrées came out.
For my main meal, I went a bit out of character and ordered the burger! Yes, a burger at a seafood restaurant… Let’s roll with it!
I was craving a big, juicy burger like nobody’s business and as someone who could basically eat seafood all day everyday, this totally surprised me! I went with the craving though and I was so, so glad I did because the burger knocked my socks off. Craving = Satisfied!
Ryan went with more classic seafood dishes and ordered the ceviche appetizer and an oyster dish off the seasonal menu. He could not stop raving about the oysters and I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll still be on the menu when I’m no longer pregnant and can order raw oysters again since they’re one of my favorite foods!
We couldn’t leave without ordering something sweet and turned to the IN + ON Bar Bites menu again and selected the doughnut bites for dessert.
This was a great decision and I’m pretty sure Ryan and I will never return to Bonefish Grill again without ordering this dish! They were warm and doughy with a crispy, sugary outside – perfect for dipping in fluffy whipped cream and buttery caramel sauce. Yum!
- Nursery Planning
(Source)
Ryan finished painting the nursery this weekend! Yay! I am so grateful to him for taking over this monotonous task while I straightened up the house and we’re both very pleased with the end result.
The above photos reflect my nursery vision – aka my dream nursery! Even though I’m sure our nursery will not look nearly as gorgeous as my inspiration photos, I’m hoping we can achieve a look that’s neutral and very calming. That’s the goal, anyway! (If you’re in a nursery planning phase right now and love the neutral look as well, you can see more of my nursery inspiration photos on my Baby board on Pinterest.)
- Pizza for Breakfast
On Saturday night, we ordered pizza and watched some of the March Madness games with friends at our house. The leftover pizza made for a great breakfast on Sunday morning! Pizza for breakfast will always be a personal favorite. It takes me back to childhood sleepovers when we’d all dig into cold pizza for breakfast the next morning. Pizza for breakfast doesn’t happen often but when it does, I love every second of it!
- Outdoor Playtime with Sadie
The weather was fantastic in Charlotte this weekend and beckoned to us to spend as much time as possible outside. Sadie was quite a fan of this plan as it meant she was able to enjoy extra rounds of fetch, long walks and playtime at the park.
Question of the Morning
- Tell me about a fun highlight from your weekend!

Where were those leggings when I was pregnant?! Maybe next time. I want to try the lobster taco!! I love lobster rolls and looked similar.
My favorite thing I did this weekend was go watch dog sled races. I love to see how excited those dogs get to run!

I had my engagement pictures taken over the weekend! I’m (im)patiently waiting to get them back.
Also, the last time I went to Bonefish I got the burger. I couldn’t tell you whether or not I liked it though because that’s actually the night I got engaged and I wasn’t able to finish eating afterwards 😉

fun!! congrats on your engagement!

Hi Julie,
I’m so excited that you’re having a baby this august! It’s crazy–I’ve been following your blog since the fall of 2010. I stumbled upon it when I was doing some wedding planning based on a keyword search and since then, it’s the only blog I follow every day even though I live no where near you, in Toronto. We got married in fall of 2010 and I feel like we’re often going through the same phases of life as you guys, at the same time. I’m due to have our first baby this August 22nd and I found out this weekend that’s it a boy! I’m definitely interested in nursery ideas. Congrats-I’m excited to follow your story.

this is so awesome!! congrats to you on your pregnancy — such an exciting time! i just love all of our similarities! 🙂

Oh Yum Love bonefish! I got a deal to try one of the new apps too. I had the spicy shrimp sliders, I have to say I liked the shrimp but wasn’t a fan of the doughy slider bun. My weekend was great, volunteered at a 50K trail run on Saturday (Lots of muddy athletes on snow covered trails) and Sunday did a 10 mile run with the boyfriend.

My hubby and I took our tandem bike up to the North Shore (we live on Oahu) to a small bike path there. Although we got plenty of funny looks from the surfers and tourists we didn’t care – it was really fun!
Julie says
Oahu is so gorgeous!!! I wish we could go back every year! Jealous you live there!! And the tandem bike ride sounds like a blast to me. 🙂

I went for a lovely long run this weekend in what’s hopefully the last snowfall in the Northeast for the season! And had a great dinner out with my dad, also seafood-themed (mussels + frites for me!)

Those leggings are so cute! To bad they are maternity and not just regular leggings. 🙂
Kristy B. says
What’s the difference between maternity leggings and regular leggings?
Julie says
The maternity leggings have a BIG panel that you can pull up OVER a growing baby bump!
Kristy B. says
Hah, shows what I know. I just thought the stretchiness of leggings was enough.
Megan says
Where did you get them?
Kim from MN says
Just wanted to say that I LOVE the nursery inspiration photo you have posted here! Love it! it would look beautiful as any kind of room, but so cozy and calming as a nursery.
The food looks delicious! And speaking of your burger order, whenever me and my husband are out to eat, and I ask, “should I get A or B? A is what I’m craving, but B is unique to this restaurant and I can’t get it elsewhere….” my husband always says, “get A. You’re craving it for a reason.” I guess it’s because maybe we need what’s in the food we’re craving. (?)(Iron in the beef?)
Our weekend was uber productive too. Lots of home improvements! Happy first-full-week-of-Spring!

My husband and I ran our first 5k over the weekend! And celebrated with an amazing brunch afterward, of course 🙂

Well, I was in my last wedding as a bridesmaid this weekend and I CAUGHT THE BOUQUET.
I never catch the bouquet and after 6 weddings in a year and a half, I am shocked I did. It was the perfect way to end my bridesmaid season. Now…..just to attend them.
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
Love the cape. You look adorable!

What a fun weekend!!! And congratulations on your pregnancy!! We live in Charlotte, too! We’re in South Charlotte and we also spent a ton of time outside this weekend. Our girls are 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 so life is always hectic and fun! Our big adventure was going to a local park where we ended up walking 4 miles to a downtown area for BBQ and shopping! It was lots of fun – I’m always happy to be outdoors, especially after this cold winter (it was our first winter in Charlotte!).
Also – that pizza looks amazing!!!!

You always look so cute! Love the leggings and poncho! I have been thinking about hitting Bonefish Grill up soon. We haven’t been there in a long time.
My husband and I enjoyed a musical. I am working on running a full 5K and am was able to get my time under 43 minutes. Slow, but sure! 🙂
Kaitlin says
Hi Julie! Loving the baby updates! What color did you paint the nursery?
Thanks 🙂
Megan says
Love that Ryan enjoyed the oyster shot! If/when y’all visit Charleston, go to Pearlz – they have really yummy ones!
