During her stay, I received an email from Sequel, a new website that offers diamond and gemstone resetting online. They asked if I had any jewelry I’d like to have reset and immediately my mom popped into my mind. I asked if they would be willing to allow me to have a piece of my grandmother’s jewelry reset as a gift to my mother.
As you may know if you read my blog this summer, we lost Mimi, my mother’s mother a week after we were all together in Raleigh for my baby shower. Her loss was (and continues to be) a hard one but whenever we remember Mimi, we cannot help but smile. When my Aunt Laurie came to meet Chase for the first time, she brought some of Mimi’s jewelry with her and left behind her beautiful diamond engagement ring for my mom.
The ring didn’t fit my mom’s hand, but she mentioned the beauty of the diamond in the ring a number of times.
When I asked her if she might like to have the diamond reset so she could wear the ring regularly, her eyes lit up! We curled up on the couch together and started browsing through Sequel for inspiration.
Sequel made everything so easy. The entire resetting process, from start to finish, was a breeze and I cannot recommend this site enough if you have a precious diamond or gemstone you would like to have reset for yourself or a loved one.
My mom and I were able to completely recreate a new piece of jewelry from my grandmother’s beautiful diamond and I absolutely love the story behind the setting my mother chose.
In my mom’s words:
Many years ago, I received a ring from my mother’s father, PopPop. It was a garnet in a white gold setting. I absolutely loved the ring. During a Latin Club trip to Greece when I was in high school, the ring was taken from my suitcase in a hotel. I have always felt sad about losing my special ring and wanted to have a garnet ring again. This ring will have special meaning to me as it will combine Mom’s engagement ring (a reminder of the love she and Daddy shared) and a garnet – a deep red stone that I once loved from my grandfather.
The fact that her new ring reminds her of her mother and her grandfather means so much to me and I’m so, so grateful to Sequel for allowing me to gift something so special to my incredible mother.
The setting my mom chose is clean and modern and she plans to wear it on her right ring finger.
Resetting a diamond or gemstone through Sequel is accessible, simple and affordable (you are only charged for your setting) and the price for resetting begins at only $55. (Sequel covers the shipping, packaging, consultation, unsetting and resetting costs.)
You can browse the site for inspiration or work with a ReStylist who will provide you with inspiration and ideas for your stone. They will help you understand what metals go best with what colored stones and provide before and after images so you know what your resetting will look like ahead of time. And don’t think resetting only applies to rings! You can reset diamonds and gemstones into earrings, a bracelet or a necklace as well.

My daughter was born in April, which has a diamond as the birth stone. When my mom came to meet her, she brought her original engagement ring (she wears a different ring now) and gave it to us to have remade into something nice for my daughter. I would love to get a necklace made for her with it!

I have two little girls and would love to give each of them a diamond from one of my grandmothers but the one from my mother’s mother definitely needs to be rest first.

My husband gave me an opal ring from his mother. I never really had an official engagement ring and he gave me this ring after we had been married. It never really fit and is not a style I would wear but it has so much sentimental value that I would love to have it reset so I can wear it.

I have a beautiful ring from my grandmother who passed away 12 years ago this week. She wore the ring on her pinkie finger and it is too small for me. I occasionally wear it as a pendant. I still think of her every day and would love to reset the stones so that I could wear it as a ring.

My Dad and grandmother passed away within 7 months of each other, I would LOVE to have one of my dad’s rings with an emerald he always wore combined with my gram’s wedding ring to create a piece that I could wear so that I can carry two of the most important people in my life around with me everyday!

My mom’s wedding ring doesn’t fit her anymore so I would like to have it reset for her! My parents have been married for 32 years now.
I like the emerald-cut Carrie ring because the middle diamond is the same shape as my mom’s diamond, and I love the contrast between the rose gold and the diamonds.

What an amazing giveaway! My grandmother past away in 1999 and since then her amathist with diamond ring sits on my dresser. I was so honored to receive her most prized possession and am heart broken that I cannot wear it, it’s too small and the jeweler said the gold setting would not be able to be sized to fit me. I would love to have the ring exactly like it is now but able to be on my finger instead of on my dresser.

My aunt passed away a few months ago. Little did I know, she was scheming with my boyfriend before passing. She left one of her beautiful diamond rings for me with the intention to use for my engagement ring. My boyfriend and I are overwhelmed with gratitude for such a thoughtful and meaningful gift, but also a bit overwhelmed with the whole re-setting process (and the price!?!). So needless to say, I am very thankful for your post today and for the opportunity of this giveaway. I will definitely be checking it out! Thank you again Julie!

In August, my Mom gave us my grandma’s ring (oldest of three girls, like me, also got married in her 30’s), unfortunately, due to some tough times (boyfriend’s company laying off workforce, his mom going thru chemo, etc.) we have yet to save up the money to get the diamond reset in a band that I can wear. I am working on patience and trusting that it will happen when it is meant to, but I would love to use Sequel when I can!

This post could not have come at a more perfect time. I just got engaged on Friday, and mother and I started talking about rings last night. My mom told me that she has been thinking about resetting her mother’s wedding ring, since she passed in 1992. I had no idea! Now, I absolutely can’t wait to finally do this for her! I’d never heard of sequel, but will definitely check it out.

My father and I went mining for tourmaline in Maine just before I graduated college. The tourmaline mine is on the same piece of property where he got married. We stumbled upon a sizable piece that day and he had the gem polished and set into a ring. Unfortunately, the setting is not my style, nor has the ring fit well. I would love to get this gem stone reset and be able to wear such a memorable piece of jewelry.

My mom passed Monday morning after Mother’s Day this year. Her rings are all too big for me. I am wanting to reset the diamonds from her wedding set and an anniversary ring into a pendant. The wedding ring includes diamonds from her original ring. This would also be my birthstone (April). If there are stones left, I would like to also have something created for my daughter. I am the only child born to mom and dad. My daughter was born 25 years to the date if my parents first date. Thank you for this opportunity

My wedding ring set was my grandmothers, I have always loved it so my grandfather gave it to me after she passed. Several months ago one of the diamonds fell out of my wedding band, luckily my husband found it in the bathroom sink. The set is very old and the prongs are constantly breaking so I came up with the idea to have it re-set so this would be perfect! Thanks for the opportunity!

I inherited a ring from my grandmother when she passed away. The ring itself is too large and due to its age, is not a good candidate for resizing. I found a similar setting on Sequel, the Lilly ring, that may enable me to wear this family heirloom.

Oh wow, this hits so close to home for me!! My little sister and i lost our dad to cancer in 2010, she was only 12 I was 22, and since then I had this ring that was special to us it was a promise ring he gave my mom. Well in 2012 I accidentally had my hand slammed in a car door and ended up in the ER with someone cutting the ring off my finger. Pretty devestating to see my dads ring all smushed up and broken. I have kept it for these years wondering what I could do to fix this. I want to make a custom rign for my sister and gift it to her for graduation next year. I would LOVE to win this giveaway!! Crossing fingers and toes xoxoxox 🙂

This past year my mom went through a series of unfortunate events with her engagement ring, wedding band, and anniversary ring. Last fall my mom was wearing her engagement ring and noticed as she was leaving work that the diamond had fallen out. She tried desperately retracing her steps but was never able to find the stone. Then this summer my mom had an accident where her wedding band and anniversary rings got caught on a part of a golf cart as she was getting off and the driver didnt notice and started to move again. She nearly lost her finger and had to have the rings cut off at the hospital.
She hasn’t worn any rings on her ring finger since the accident to allow enough time for it to heal. Now that it’s better I have been thinking about doing something special with the stones in her anniversary ring and making a new ring that she can wear. Sequel seems like a great option to use for this type of gift and I loved reading the story about your moms ring!
I liked this setting as it resembles my moms anniversary ring: http://sequel.gemvara.com/jewelry/quintessence-ring/your-center-stone-14k-yellow-gold-ring-with-diamond/12ynyh?mode=prerequest
