As I went to bed last night, I set the alarm for 6 a.m., promising myself Iād get up and go for a run immediately upon awakening.
This is key for me when it comes to morning runs. I have to commit fully to the run before I go to sleep because even the slightest wavering āmaaaaybe Iāll runā thought will kill all my motivation.
When the alarm beeped, I leashed up Sadie and threw on my workout clothes and headed out for a five mile run. (Love having my running buddy back with me!)
It was already 80 degrees at 6 a.m. and the air was thick and sticky. I felt really slow and this run was definitely more of a start and stop run with a few walking breaks, but at least I got my booty out there!
It was a tough one for sure.
After my run, I gulped a ton of water, packed the remainder of my suitcase for my trip to Philadelphia today and ate a cup of Frosted Mini Wheats.
Then it was shower time! It felt great to wash the sweat out of my hair. Woo-wee!
Breakfast
Iām sure you can guess what I had for breakfastā¦
No surprise there.
A smoothie topped with some fresh blueberries helped cool me down even further from my run.
Now itās time to put on some travel clothes. Iām pretty sure Iāll be wearing my go-to travel outfit. Canāt beat a maxi dress when it comes to ultimate comfort.
I am really looking forward to spending the weekend in Philadelphia. The last time I was in Philly was when I was there for a corporate training week for that one job I hated. I remember being miserable and spending every break in my room scanning job boards and websites desperately looking for a new job!
I have a feeling this trip will be much better.
See ya from North Carolinaā¦ assuming they have complimentary internet access during my layover!

Bring your rainboots and umbrella its wet and stormy here in philly today!!!
Have a safe flight! The weather is absolutely terrible here in Philly right now. It’s been raining, thundering and lightning all morning!
I’ll be in an NC airport today too! If we happen to be there at the same time, you can find me at the nearest fro-yo or ice cream shop. š
Oh, and I’m the exact same way with runs. It’s all or nothing, not mayyyyybe. Maybe means not gonna’ happen.
Hope your trip is wonderful. Can’t wait to hear about it! If you have any tips or restaurants please do tell because I have never been there. My family is planning a trip next year and I wanna be prepared! Thanks š
No matter how challenging, it always feels good to sweat a little before sitting on a plane- good for you!
I can’t wait to read about HLS!!
Yay for breakfast smoothies! š Hope you have a great trip!
Have a safe trip! I hope you have internet in NC, I need your afternoon blog to help me get through this boring work day!
Haha I hope so too!!
I am the SAME way– if I don’t commit to working out early the night before, I would never actually get up and get movin’
And that is EXACTLY why I haven’t worked out first thing in several months… whoops š
Great job on commiting to your run š
Safe trip!
I’m the same way about morning runs. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm is keeping me in today… and I know that since I didn’t get out in the morning, I probably won’t later on. Sad! But I’ve got a day of packing and schlepping boxes up and down stairs tomorrow, so I think I’ll get my movement in!
I am SO the same way with a morning run!
Lovin’ the smoothie return š And have a safe trip!
Good job on just getting out there and exercising! Whenever I have a workout that feels tougher than normal I just remember that at least I moved my body :). I can’t wait to read all about HLS and I’m sure while I do I’ll be wishing that I was there haha. Hope your travels go smoothly!
Have a great trip! I know my dog helps motivate me since I know she needs the exercise.
Complementary internet access is the BEST at airports. Fingers crossed they have it. š
Oh man, I had a tough run yesterday too so I feel ya. I didn’t have the crazy humidity like you did though, so way to stick it out! Have a great trip!
Sorry the run was less than ideal but at least you got it in! That’s more than I can say for myself these past couple of days!
I love Frosted Mini Wheats and have not had them in far too long – I need to change that!
Have fun in Philly!! š
Good job on getting that run done! I’m the same way, I have to lay out my running clothes the night before and just jump up and go! If I give myself too much time to think about it, I talk myself out of it!
That smoothie looks awesome…makes me miss blueberries!!!
Have fun in Philly!
Have a great time! I hate how in the summer in Florida the air doesn’t move no matter what time it is. Great job still getting your run in!
have fun at HLS!
woooohooo! I’m expecting to see you out, missy. š I’m excited!
At least you got out there, that’s more than I can vouch for!
Have a good time in Philly- it’s much cooler up here š
You really got after it this morning! š ….Have fun!!!!
Yay Dani! I LOVE LOVE LOVE her blog!
Wow – crazy the temp difference between Orlando and St. Pete! It was in the low 70s this morning. Glad you got your run in! I swear the hot temps makes you stronger.
Have FUN in Philly – so jealous!!
I hope you have a safe flight and a wonderful time at HLS! š
My friend told me about her obsession with your blog awhile ago, and I am finally checking it out now. After reading, I totally understand her adoration for Peanut Butter Fingers! I love running, healthy food (with some indulgences), fashion and fun. Needless to say, your blog fits my style perfectly! I’ll definitely be back for more š
So glad you found me!!
have fun julie! I look forward to seeing all my favorite bloggers together!!!!! xo
I love frosted Mini-Wheats. Now I want some! š
Have a great time in Philly! Sounds like it will be so much fun!
Have a great trip! š
Julie – I’m not attending the HLS but live here. Are you guys going to be out and about in the city afterward and welcoming any reader meet ups??
Same as Laura, not attending but live here!!
And Julie, if I remember correctly you also worked for ARAMARK! and yes this trip will be A LOT better without the “star man” ruling your world! š
I hope so!! I’m not sure what the agenda is like, but I’ll post meet up info on the blog if there is time!
Haver a safe journey!
Yay for traveling! Have a safe flight and pack lots of magazines!
Way to go! Morning runs are the best. You are totally correct about having to commit to it the night before!! Safe travels today! š
Running in the AM is the best. You get it out of the way early on and don’t have to worry about it.
Have a great time at HLS. I definitely want to come out for it next year. By then I’ll have a year’s blogging under my belt. Yeah!
Smoothies are the best for cooling downn. Yours looks soo chocolatly and good š
Safe travels, Julie! š Have an absolutely amazing trip – can’t wait to read about it and experience the HLS vicariously through your blog! It must have felt so good to go out with Sadie, despite the heat and toughness of the run – you’re back in cahoots with your little running buddy! š And then to eat your beloved smoothie? Sweeeeet! š
Take care, lovely! <3 xyx
Have fun Julie!! And that is a great choice of clothing for the airplane! Wow, there will be so many HLS updates from so many people haha.
Dresses are the best travel outfit EVER. Well done ; )
Have a great, safe trip!
Because I am SO jealous you’re going to HLS and I’m not, I’m going to make you jelly by telling you it was 58F on my run. Yup. FIVE EIGHT.
I am the same way with runs, if I get it into my mind that I maybe will do it maybe not..I for sure will end up not doing it…fail!
Wow that’s freakin’ hot to run in- love that sweaty feeling afterwards!! Safe travels and here’s hoping NC has free WiFI!
Have a great time in Philly!! I so wish I was going this year. Hopefully next year! š
Good luck traveling and have a great time at HLS. LOVE your road trip outfit!
Julie–if you need internet access, there’s an app for your phone called easy tether. It’s $10 through Amazon, but once you get it, all you have to do is hook your computer to your phone through the USB and you get internet anywhere! It’s been my saving grace with traveling for work. I use it in airports, on the train, in hotels. It’s fantastic!
Have fun! š
Oh awesome! Is that $10 monthly?
Nope–just the one time! It’s almost too good to be true! š
Glad you motivated yourself to do your run! I totally understand your pain with the heat/humidity! Safe travels!
if you are flying into RDU I don’t think they have it but Charlotte I think does….I could be wrong!
You’re right… I’m in Raleigh and no dice on the free internet.
Well done for getting up for your run. I can never motivate myself to run in the morning! I totally put it of all day and then avoid doing it all together. Have fun on your travels!
Have a safe trip! I know exactly what you mean about comfy clothes…I’ve never thought of a maxi dress…that sounds perfect!
I totally have to give myself a pep talk before bed if I plan on waking up early for a workout. If I save it for the morning it doesn’t work so well!
