After working through the morning (lots of research for a freelance piece!), I was more than ready for a break.
My break came at 1 p.m., as I headed out the door to College Park Orthodontics to check in with my orthodontist to make sure everything was looking okay with my teeth following my treatment with Invisalign.
I wanted to have new retainers made before we move to Ocala, so I booked an appointment and was really looking forward to seeing my orthodontist again. I love her!
My orthodontist got married about a year before me, so I loved visiting her and chatting about everything wedding related during my Invisalign treatment. Then, a couple of months ago, she had a beautiful baby boy. She emailed me pictures and showed me more today and he is the cutest little guy!
My appointment went really well and I will have brand spankin’ new retainers in less than two weeks… in “passion pink.” Yes, I got to pick the color. And yes, I’m 26-years-old and picking the colors of my retainers and the flavors of the gooey stuff they put in your mouth to take the impressions for retainers still excites me.
If you happen to live in Orlando and are in need of a fantastic orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Williams. She has degrees from Boston College, Harvard and the University of Florida and is all-around awesome. She’s also offering a promo right now: If you sign up for Invisalign treatment with her before August 1, you get a $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority. Sweet deal, huh?
She also offered to do a little giveaway on the blog!
Two readers will receive their choice of one $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority, courtesy of College Park Orthodontics.
To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post in one of two ways:
- Tell me about your experience with braces. How amazing it felt when you got your braces off, how you looked like a total toolbag in junior high because you picked neon rubber bands… Share!
or
- Tell me which celebrity you think has the best teeth. My vote is for Carrie Underwood.
I will randomly select two winners tomorrow afternoon.
Lunch
Lunch today was enjoyed en route to the orthodontist. I ate a quesadilla with apple slices and Canadian bacon in the car, so no photo was snapped.
I did snap a photo of dessert though!
After my orthodontist appointment, I stopped by a fro yo place and enjoyed a cup of white chocolate mousse, espresso, triple chocolate and Butterbeer frozen yogurt (can’t WAIT for Harry Potter tomorrow!!!) topped with peanut M&Ms, Golden Grahams, Butterfinger crumbles, yogurt pretzels, cookie dough, cheesecake and brownie bits.
The whole thing was resting in my belly within two minutes of me digging in.
And now I’m blogging away in Starbucks where I plan to spend the remainder of my afternoon.
A realtor has been showing our apartment to prospective tenants this whole week and I had to get out of there. The realtor doesn’t have a key, so I’ve had to be there for every showing and today I finally told her I’d hide her a key because I feel like I’m lying by omission as potential tenants come in and I don’t say anything about the mice. She understands how bad the situation is and I can’t believe they’re trying to rent it out when the problem is so immense.
You better believe I am asking EVERY homeowner about a history of mice before we move in somewhere in Ocala!
And I’m off!

Denzel Washington has some pretty nice teeth.

I had braces when they were ‘cool’ (seriously, did people really want them in 7th grade?!) I had them for 2 year and shamefully I picked colored bands throughout most of my time with them. I mean really, who needs color ON their teeth? Ick! 🙂
Julie says
I wore braces in high school for a couple years. I definately had the fun colored bands and a retainer that I never really wore most of the time!
Christine says
Ugh, I had braces when I was in college! Like, real braces… not Invisalign! I think you definitely made the right choice between the two of us! I got them off during January of my senior year, which was SO awesome… What a great feeling! : )
Susie says
I had braces for a little less than three years, but I had a palate expander before that, and my mom would have to reach inside my mouth every night before bed, fumble around with a key, and crank the expander back until we heard a click. Believe me, this was ever so fun. I ended up with a lovely gap between my teeth and then had to have around 5 teeth extracted with complications–oh joy. Luckily my braces weren’t quite as bad as all that, and my teeth look wonderful now!
Melissa says
No braces but I was obsessed with my hot pink sparkly retainer! Celeb: Jennifer Anniston.
Jess@atasteofconfidence says
I had braces in 8th grade for a few months but it wasn’t too bad. Only on four teeth!
Adrienne says
Had to go through the whole braces experience my freshman year of high school! I of course experienced the ‘fun’ of regular tightenings, and getting food stuck in my braces. But now I am enjoying perfectly straight teeth, no TMJ, and 8 years later am still faithfully wearing my retainer!! 🙂
mego@watchmegorun says
I had braces for five years and got them off right before senior pics- thank god! It was amazing when I got them off and my ortho asked to use me in one of her case studies of most improved patients. My teeth were sooo bad before!
Jen says
Rosie Huntington! I am obsessed with her!
Jen says
Rosie Huntington – love her!
Brooke says
I had braces for four years so I felt like I was permanently metal mouth. However within the four years I finally realized color rubber bands were NOT the way to go after choosing red and green for one christmas.

I think that Angelina Jolie has gorgeous teeth!
Alex says
I’ve never had braces, thank goodness! My vote for best teeth would also have to be Carrie Underwood – I absolutely LOVE her and she has a great smile.
Abby says
no braces for me…yet. I know I have to get them soon though…ortho’s orders, ugh.
and, jennifer garner has the prettiest teeth!

Wow, you have almost 600 comments on this post!!! 🙂
I can’t imagine living with mice. When I was in grad school in Gainesville, our house was in a wooded area, and we ended up with a lot of cockroaches. It was nasty. And one time when I came home, there was a snake in the kitchen!!! He slithered under the stove when I turned on the light. Needless to say, I didn’t return home until someone else got rid of him. Yuck!

i had braces for 6 years. AWFUL.
MollyCookie says
I had braces in 6th grade for a year and I hated every moment! It was definitely worth it, but hard on my 12 year old ego.
Lara says
OMG I hated braces. My teeth were so crooked, there was one tooth that they couldn’t even get a bracket on and had to wait until the others moved out of the way! 10 years later, I still wear my retainers 2-3 days a week because I’m not doing that again!
Heather says
My favorite part about braces, was the feeling when they came off! I loved how slippery my teeth felt. It was years ago, but I still really wish my teeth were that smooth and slippery 🙂
Michelle says
It was awesome when I got my braces off after two years… But awful when they put them back on for six more months! :(. That was a really long time ago though and I’m so grateful to my parents for getting them for me 🙂
Vanessa @ Sweaty in Pink says
I had clear braces for 3 years. Not as traumatizing as metal ones, but still pretty sucky!
Luckily, I got them off the day before my big sweet 16 party!!! It was a very exciting moment I think I’ll always remember 🙂
Emily says
My favorite part of having braces were the cheesy colored bands for holidays. My least favorite part was when the “special” rubber bands decided to go flying out of your mouth when talking…as you can tell I was super cool in junior high 😉
I also were an adult retainer now and I made sure that I got to pick my color too…flashy neon green…with a little bit of sparkle lol
Katy @ RunKatyRun says
I actually had braces twice when I was younger! The first time, I didn’t wear my retainer regularly so they put them back on again. It was painful at times, but I did always LOVE picking out new colors for the rubber bands at each appointment! I’d like to say that I was better at wearing my retainer the second time around, but I still have two crooked teeth!
On a side note: I went to an amusement park with my family (I was about 10 or 11) and it was one of those parks where the characters walk around pretending to be from about 1,000 years ago. Anywho-one of the characters definitely yelled at me and was all “WHAT IS THAT STRANGE CONTRAPTION IN YOUR MOUTH! AWAY YE SCOUNDREL!” It was just a little bit embarrassing ;o)

I actually thought I looked really cute with braces, so was a bit sad when I got them off. Now that I’m older and wiser (haha), I appreciate my straight smile sans braces!
lynn says
i hated having braces… luckily i got them in middle school, so by the time freshman year of high school rolled around, i got to have them taken off and enjoy my beautiful smile! what a great day 🙂 good luck with your invisalign!
Jessica says
I am so weird because I actually loved having braces. Don’t get me wrong, I was more than ready to get them off after 22 months, but I remember being soooooo excited the day I got my braces. I also loved going every month because everyone in the office was so nice and fun to talk to. I also got to get new colors (although I chose metallic blue almost every time).
katiemac says
jessica biel – gorgeous teeth
Emily says
Blah, I didn’t get my braces until 8th grade and they didn’t come off til sophomore year…talk about a late bloomer!
Anna says
I think Jennifer Aniston has the prettiest teeth!
Lindsay says
OMG the same thing happened to my little brother with his orthodontist!
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
Ok, so I had braces when I was in middle school. I was so excited because unlike most people who have to have them on for years, I only had them for 10 months. Well I had been counting down the days to get my braces off and guess what… my orthodontist died! Isn’t that horrible? As if that wasn’t bad enough, they had no one to take off my braces. So finally they had some temp guy come in and he took them off, but he did it wrong and didn’t take off the cement right? So not only was it incredibly painful but it took me about 5 years for them to work on the cement at every dentist appt. Horrible. Oh and there was never any follow-up so I have no idea about the retainer thing. Fingers crossed that my teeth don’t shift!!
Haha sorry for the long story! In other notes, that fro yo looks amazing! And I can’t believe that your realator isn’t telling people about the mice!! That’s horrible!
Annie-Rose says
I’d totally get sparkly pink retainers/cases if I got braces again 🙂
I had braces for two years in 4th grade and, lucky for me, it was still cool to have braces at that age – but it was pretty painful. I loved when I got them off and refused to get the second round that I was supposed to – luckily my teeth are still pretty straight!
I think you should post a photo of a mouse on your refrigerator and write “Future Roomie” on it 🙂 …I feel so bad for whoever rents it!
Heather says
I am so greatful for my brace face years! While they were certainly awkward, they were sooo worth it. My smile is one of my favorite features!
As for celeb teeth, my vote goes to Audrina Patridge.
Sierra says
In middle school I had pimples…glasses…grew to the height I am now (5’4) and was so awkward in every way BUT braces. Ironically, braces were the one thing I wanted haha.
Celebrity best teeth- Kate Beckinsale. They are white and healthy but not that super-creepy fake white alot of celebrities have!
Ashley says
I would take Carrie Underwood’s teeth, heck I would take anything of hers. The girl is perfection!
Gina says
Luckily I’ve never needed braces!
and I think Rachel McAdams has great teeth.
Anu says
I got braces in junior high and I was actually secretly excited! I always thought the cool kids wore braces and was so happy when I needed them. Well, that didn’t last. Ha, between the adjustments and rubber bands, I was over it pretty quickly. I got them off within 18 months and I still get compliments on my teeth! Score 🙂
Vanessa says
I got braces when I was in third grade. Then they realized my mouth was too small for any major changes to happen. So they gave me retainers, I threw them away twice at school during lunch (by accident lol) and my dad went through the dumpster at school TWICE! They then gave me permanent retainers which I liked much more. I had them until 8th grade when I finally got braces.
In ninth grade they took them off! they were soooo smooth!! I got regular retainers since I was much older. I never threw them out once :).. but I stopped wearing them and now my bottom teeth aren’t that straight :/
I want invisalign now!!
btw keep wearin’ those retainers!!!
Vanessa says
oh and I had to wear a horrible mouth guard at night for a while. So embarrassing!!!
Jessica P says
My brother used to pay me a dollar to let him pick the colors on my braces for the month. LOL- why I agreed to that for only 1 dollar is beyond me.
Bethany says
So many celebrities have great teeth but my vote is for Julia Roberts. She has the best smile out there!
Laura says
I was lucky because I ended up only wearing braces for just less than a year – and then dumb because I never wore my retainer, so now my bottom two teeth overlap slightly again. oh, the vanity of my middle school self.
Lauren says
Ugh! Braces! I had them forever. Seriously. I got them put on in 3rd grade (they were only on my two front teeth) and didn’t get completely rid of them until the end of 9th grade. They were taken off for six months in 7th grade due to being overcorrected.
But if braces were bad, headgear was SO MUCH WORSE. My freshman year, my dad let two senior boys (who were doing work on the farm) come flip my mattress over while I slept on it and they saw the headgear. It was mortifying. Sounds like Invisalign would have been much less detrimental to my mental health.
Carey @ Positively Blonde says
I had braces from 4th through 7th grade. I loved picking out the color of my bands- I’ll never forget the first colors I picked were purple and red. I’m sure it was a lovely combo lol
Alli says
When I was in elementary school, I actually WANTED braces. I would straighten out paper clips and place them over my teeth so it looked like I had (really horrible) braces. No idea what was going on in my head at the time…
Then when I actually ended up having to get in junior high school, I despised them. Especially the tiny rubber bands that I was supposed to wear. I had more fun flinging them at things.
Thank goodness that is all in the past!
Heidi says
I love Julie Bowen’s teeth for sure! And I think she’s absolutely hilarious!
Lauren says
I totally agree about Carrie Underwood’s teeth-she is just all around gorgeous!
Shannon says
I had braces from 6th-8th grade and am so glad – my smile needed some serious help! My parents sacrificed so much to provide me and my siblings with braces and I’m so appreciative of the investment.
Shannon says
Oh and btw, my retainer case is also purple with glitter! Great minds must think alike 🙂
Katrina Harden says
I had braces in the 3rd grade! No lie! Then I had them again in 5th grade! (I was basically the coolest kid in elementary….ok, not really. lol)
