After working through the morning (lots of research for a freelance piece!), I was more than ready for a break.
My break came at 1 p.m., as I headed out the door to College Park Orthodontics to check in with my orthodontist to make sure everything was looking okay with my teeth following my treatment with Invisalign.
I wanted to have new retainers made before we move to Ocala, so I booked an appointment and was really looking forward to seeing my orthodontist again. I love her!
My orthodontist got married about a year before me, so I loved visiting her and chatting about everything wedding related during my Invisalign treatment. Then, a couple of months ago, she had a beautiful baby boy. She emailed me pictures and showed me more today and he is the cutest little guy!
My appointment went really well and I will have brand spankin’ new retainers in less than two weeks… in “passion pink.” Yes, I got to pick the color. And yes, I’m 26-years-old and picking the colors of my retainers and the flavors of the gooey stuff they put in your mouth to take the impressions for retainers still excites me.
If you happen to live in Orlando and are in need of a fantastic orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Williams. She has degrees from Boston College, Harvard and the University of Florida and is all-around awesome. She’s also offering a promo right now: If you sign up for Invisalign treatment with her before August 1, you get a $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority. Sweet deal, huh?
She also offered to do a little giveaway on the blog!
Two readers will receive their choice of one $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority, courtesy of College Park Orthodontics.
To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post in one of two ways:
- Tell me about your experience with braces. How amazing it felt when you got your braces off, how you looked like a total toolbag in junior high because you picked neon rubber bands… Share!
or
- Tell me which celebrity you think has the best teeth. My vote is for Carrie Underwood.
I will randomly select two winners tomorrow afternoon.
Lunch
Lunch today was enjoyed en route to the orthodontist. I ate a quesadilla with apple slices and Canadian bacon in the car, so no photo was snapped.
I did snap a photo of dessert though!
After my orthodontist appointment, I stopped by a fro yo place and enjoyed a cup of white chocolate mousse, espresso, triple chocolate and Butterbeer frozen yogurt (can’t WAIT for Harry Potter tomorrow!!!) topped with peanut M&Ms, Golden Grahams, Butterfinger crumbles, yogurt pretzels, cookie dough, cheesecake and brownie bits.
The whole thing was resting in my belly within two minutes of me digging in.
And now I’m blogging away in Starbucks where I plan to spend the remainder of my afternoon.
A realtor has been showing our apartment to prospective tenants this whole week and I had to get out of there. The realtor doesn’t have a key, so I’ve had to be there for every showing and today I finally told her I’d hide her a key because I feel like I’m lying by omission as potential tenants come in and I don’t say anything about the mice. She understands how bad the situation is and I can’t believe they’re trying to rent it out when the problem is so immense.
You better believe I am asking EVERY homeowner about a history of mice before we move in somewhere in Ocala!
And I’m off!
Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

I had my braces from 16-8, and I wish they had Invisline in the UK back in those days! Summer vacations with a mouth full of metal (I had those wire brackets that were attached to your teeth) was not a hot look.
I am thankful for that though after what my husband had to go through. In an accident his front tooth came out, and the hospital put it back in for him (ouch!!) and then he had to wear a gum split for 2 days and a brace for awhile while it healed. He has his own front tooth still, but not such a found experience of braces.

I am going to try to get invisalign soon, still trying to sort out who to go to around San Diego. I think almost all celebrities have perfect teeth (so jealous!)

i’m a huge geek & just got back from the harry potter premier (12:01 am!!!!) (haha and probably should be sleeping right now…priorities 😉 …) & it is AWESOME! you will not be disappointed!!!

I had braces three times in my life…by the time I was 16, I had them for over half my life! (8 years total, 5 years, 2.5 years, and finally 6 months). Now I take good care of my teeth!
Shera says
Oh my lord I had those expander’s where my mom had to turn the key to move apart the roof of my mouth. Awful.
Even more awful is that my teeth started moving when my wisdom teeth came in 🙁 Thank goodness I have a cool dentist who also hooked me up with an invisaline retainer!
Dawna says
I wish I would have had braces when I was younger. Not many of my friends did so it never crossed my mind that I needed them, but I do. I’ve thought about invisilign but at my age not sure it would be worth it. Have a good weekend!
Ly says
My experience wasn’t too bad! I had clear braces and only for 10 months! I was rubbing it in my sister’s face who had to have night guard and a brace. 🙂
Kate says
I had my braces from age 11 – 15, and it was MISERABLE! I needed my top jaw widened, and my bottom jaw moved forward…I also accidentally got hit in the mouth with a golf club (my brother was goofing off) and needed to go in after hours because my cheek was imbeded on a post for my herpz-appliance! My braces were on an extra 6 months because of that.
I was SO happy to finally have my braces removed, my teeth felt sooo smooth and my smile was beautiful. Then I needed surgery to remove excess gum, and had more oral work done!
I am lucky to have had such a wonderful orthodontist, and parents willing to pay for so much oral care out of pocket (our insurance didn’t cover it!)

I don’t have braces, but I had to pull out two of my back teeth because of cavities last yr 🙁

I had braces all through middle school so I had to make sure I didn’t have food in my tooth and I changed the colors of my rubber bands frequently to be cool 😛 Thankfully I had my braces taken off the first week of high school!! I can’t imagine surviving high school with multi colored braces and food in my braces!!
Brandy says
I had braces, but only for about 8 months in my Junior year in high school. I had the clear ones on top and always got the “tooth-colored” rubber bands up there. Bad thing was, when food got stuck in my braces (like food loves to do) it was REALLY noticable.
Natalie says
I begged to have braces! My older sister and brother had them so naturally I wanted them a well! And I totally went for the neon blue and green bands. I will forever regret that!
Kerry says
Oh, the braces! I totally went with orange & black bands which were our school colors (the tigers) – but can you imagine how horrible that looked? Thinking back on it now just makes me laugh & cringe! 🙂
Kelly says
braces, headgear, rubber bands….awful! I went through the whole braces process in middle school and thought i totally rocked them until now when i look back and wished i never posed for a picture during those times lol 🙂
Lindsay says
Braces did me wonders, I’m not gonna lie! 🙂 Haha! The smooth, slimy feeling of getting them removed…. AH-MAZING!
Abby says
I had braces from sixth to ninth grade. I remember lying about how often I really wore my lovely pink head gear. My friends and I would get matching colored bands every visit lol. We were cool 😉
Brooke says
I had braces for three years in Jr High/High School. I didn’t really mind them all that much, other than the time I had some contraption on the roof of my mouth that I had to turn with a key once a week…oohhh did that hurt! I had the straightest teeth afterwards! But I’m a terrible person when it comes to remembering my retainer every night, so one missed night turned into two, turned into a week, and since my teeth (for some gosh darn reason) shift so fast, my retainer no longer fits in my mouth…so the bottom teeth don’t even look like I have braces! Bah! 🙁
liz says
I love the feeling of getting my braces off. Oh and I love jessica alba’s teeth.
Elizabeth says
I love Jessica Biels Smile, She has great teeth.
mary says
In middle school, I had about 6 rubberbands that were all different colors (green, blue, pink) crisscrossing across my mouth. Along with that, my actual braces were tennessee orange!
Elise says
i had braces for 2 1/2 years in middle school — yay for the awkward years! and LOVED getting them off…just because i could finally eat corn on the cob again!
Jane says
I had braces from the 4th grade to the 6th grade. I loved when they were removed b/c I could eat gum and popcorn and carmel again!
Katie says
I CAN’T WAIT FOR HARRY POTTER EITHER! eekk!! I’m jealous of the butterbeer fro yo.. HP and fro yo would be the combination of my two favorite things!
I never had to have braces or even a retainer because my teeth were pretty much straight from the get-go. I wanted them though because I have one tooth that is a tiny bit crooked, but my dentist told me that they wouldn’t give me braces just for that.
So, if I had to pick a celebrity with good teeth I would have to say Angelina Jolie. I don’t really like her smile so much, but I do like her teeth.
Elisabeth says
I didn’t have my orthodontics until 3 years after college. I never liked my teeth and decided having them as an adult was no big deal. I was in braces for about 28 months and I had to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed about 4 months into the treatment, as well as having a baby tooth removed! One of my adult canines never came in (was resting kinda sideways up in the jaw bone) & the baby tooth never fell out. So…after they removed the baby tooth, I had to have the adult tooth exposed (AKA…cut the gum open) and have a chain sort of contraption hooked to it to pull it into place. I still may need jaw surgery in the future because my crossbite isn’t totally fixed.
I’d say the best teeth in Hollywood are Jennifer Aniston & Rob Lowe.
Hanna says
Blake Lively-best teeth!
Rachel says
Sophia Bush has great teeth, I’m always so jealous when I watch One Tree Hill. I never had braces growing up, so I have no fun stories 🙁
Chantelle says
I had the old fashioned kind of braces — metal mouth, anyone?! — and LOVED the little bags of rubber bands they gave me to use … the bag with the bear picture 🙂 Oddly enough, I also came to almost-like the day-after-a-braces-tightening soreness … almost. At least it kept me entertained at school 🙂
Rebecca says
I had braces from 7th or 8th grade until the end of my freshman year. I liked matching the rubber bands to our school colors when I was in a sports season. Boy was I cool 🙂
Katie says
I had braces all through middle school and got them off the day before our Freshman Dance! It was great that I got to go to my first “official” dance as a high schooler without my multi colored bands 🙂
Stephy says
I was not adventurous with my brace colours.I always chose gray.I didn’t want to draw attention to my teeth though I probably failed at that anyway lol. When the braces came off I didn”t want to smile because my teeth looked huge to me haha. It wore off eventually.
Rachel says
I always wanted braces but never ended up getting them (weird I know!). And I agree..Carrie Underwood has some good teeth!
Jessica says
I got braces in 6th grade. But before I got them on I had to have 4 teeth pulled (had too many teeth!). I got them off right before I went into high school, thank goodness. But to top it off, I had glasses when I had braces = Hot stuff!! I got contacts when I got my braces off too… Major transformation.
Courtney says
My experience with braces is that I always wanted them! All my friends had them and, well, you know how it is when you are a kid and just wanting to be like everyone else!
I think Kate Middleton has the most amazing..everything! But teeth too:)
wendy sue says
oh I so had colored elastics and a purple retainer, which I accidentally threw away at least twice!
Sue says
I had to get braces right after I graduated college because of tmj/bite problems. I got engaged a year later and had to push my wedding date back a year just so I wouldn’t have those medal things in my pictures!!
Brittany says
I never had braces but I did have an “appliance” in my mouth to fix one of my incisors. My mom always joked that I had a refrigerator in my mouth. Ha. Funny mom.
Megan says
My next door neighbor’s brother was the one who made fun of my gapped teeth enough for me to make my mom take me to the ortho. Only had to wear them for about a year though. Thennnn my stupid self stopped wearing my bottom retainer so my bottom teeth are a leeeetle crooked now. Oops.
Jess says
I had braces for 4 years from 7th grade through to my Sophomore year of high school. A palate widener, plus surgery and braces were not fun by any means, but for the most part I embraced them and wasn’t too embaressed! I too think Carrie Underwood has the most beautiful smile! 🙂
Lin says
I think Britney Spears has the best smile!
Denise says
I have never had braces. I never even went to the dentist until I was 19 and had wisdom tooth issues! I want braces now, just for vanity because I have a couple of teeth that arent perfect. I was blessed with good teeth!
Lea says
Don’t they all have pretty much the same teeth? Perfectly straight and bleached ultrawhite? so I’ll pick Jewel, does she still have that one snaggle tooth? I find that quirky and cute.
Sarah @ TheFunStartsHere says
I actually WANTED braces when I was growing up! I had them for two years and I LOVED them! Everyone had them in my school so it wasnt something that awkward. I used to change bands according to the season, yes I’m a big ridiculous nerd!
Kristy says
I love reading your blog! I still wear invisalign retainers at night but remember clearly getting my braces off and not being able to keep my tongue off of my “smooth” new teeth!
nycgal says
I had braces in the 3rd grade and luckily, got them off before everyone else went through the process so I had little humiliation while everyone else suffered, 😉
Courtney says
I never had braces and was always so proud of that fact. Looking back on it now, I really hope I didn’t brag about it because my teeth are FAR from perfect! I agree, LOVE Carrie’s smile!
Stephanie says
I was SUPPOSED to get braces when I was in HS to correct a slight underbite (my teeth line up exactly, instead of my top ones coming over my bottom ones). However, my whole family is very musical, including myself, and my dad wouldn’t let me because he thought it would ruin my French Horn playing – and I was playing in a lot of ensembles at the time. So sadly, years later, I still have misaligned teeth and no sad braces stories.
Brittany says
I had a long series of unfortunate events dealing with braces. I got them pretty young starting with spacers in 5th grade i think. Then I had to get an expander (worst thing ever) and when they took it off they ripped out one of my teeth! I had to get more spacers after that and ANOTHER expander. Once that was over I had braces for a couple years and finally got them off in 8th. Now I have a permanant retainer on the top and wear my lower one when I sleep. I won best smile in high school though so I’d say it was pretty worth it!
Missy says
I’ve never had braces, but I think Reese Witherspoon has pretty teeth. Too many celebreties seem to get a little hooked on teeth whitening and it just looks fake ( I think Pamela Anderson, although maybe it’s her total package that makes me think fakeness) Love your blog, have recently gotten hooked on it. Super content and your are adorable.
Cassie says
I’ve never had braces, but Invisalign definitely seems the way to go if needed. But, the first thing that came to mind when you asked the celebrity with the best teeth was Ryan Reynolds. His smile is so gorgeous, and his teeth are just perfect. Really liked that question. : )
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
i had braces from 6th-8th grade. it really wasn’t too bad for me, and i was a good girl and wore my retainer for years (think, throughout college). i finally retired it after i graduated. 🙂
