After working through the morning (lots of research for a freelance piece!), I was more than ready for a break.
My break came at 1 p.m., as I headed out the door to College Park Orthodontics to check in with my orthodontist to make sure everything was looking okay with my teeth following my treatment with Invisalign.
I wanted to have new retainers made before we move to Ocala, so I booked an appointment and was really looking forward to seeing my orthodontist again. I love her!
My orthodontist got married about a year before me, so I loved visiting her and chatting about everything wedding related during my Invisalign treatment. Then, a couple of months ago, she had a beautiful baby boy. She emailed me pictures and showed me more today and he is the cutest little guy!
My appointment went really well and I will have brand spankin’ new retainers in less than two weeks… in “passion pink.” Yes, I got to pick the color. And yes, I’m 26-years-old and picking the colors of my retainers and the flavors of the gooey stuff they put in your mouth to take the impressions for retainers still excites me.
If you happen to live in Orlando and are in need of a fantastic orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Williams. She has degrees from Boston College, Harvard and the University of Florida and is all-around awesome. She’s also offering a promo right now: If you sign up for Invisalign treatment with her before August 1, you get a $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority. Sweet deal, huh?
She also offered to do a little giveaway on the blog!
Two readers will receive their choice of one $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority, courtesy of College Park Orthodontics.
To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post in one of two ways:
- Tell me about your experience with braces. How amazing it felt when you got your braces off, how you looked like a total toolbag in junior high because you picked neon rubber bands… Share!
or
- Tell me which celebrity you think has the best teeth. My vote is for Carrie Underwood.
I will randomly select two winners tomorrow afternoon.
Lunch
Lunch today was enjoyed en route to the orthodontist. I ate a quesadilla with apple slices and Canadian bacon in the car, so no photo was snapped.
I did snap a photo of dessert though!
After my orthodontist appointment, I stopped by a fro yo place and enjoyed a cup of white chocolate mousse, espresso, triple chocolate and Butterbeer frozen yogurt (can’t WAIT for Harry Potter tomorrow!!!) topped with peanut M&Ms, Golden Grahams, Butterfinger crumbles, yogurt pretzels, cookie dough, cheesecake and brownie bits.
The whole thing was resting in my belly within two minutes of me digging in.
And now I’m blogging away in Starbucks where I plan to spend the remainder of my afternoon.
A realtor has been showing our apartment to prospective tenants this whole week and I had to get out of there. The realtor doesn’t have a key, so I’ve had to be there for every showing and today I finally told her I’d hide her a key because I feel like I’m lying by omission as potential tenants come in and I don’t say anything about the mice. She understands how bad the situation is and I can’t believe they’re trying to rent it out when the problem is so immense.
You better believe I am asking EVERY homeowner about a history of mice before we move in somewhere in Ocala!
And I’m off!
Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

I actually want to look into invisalign treatments. Ever since my wisdom teeth came in a few years ago they have shifted my other teeth, so now some of my front teeth are overlapping some. I live close to orlando so maybe I’ll check out your orthodontist! Oh and I could really use one of the gift cards since I am getting married in a year and need to lose a little weight.

When I got my braces off (for the second time) my teeth felt HUGE. They were just sooooo smooth and BIG feeling!
Lindsay says
Oh my gosh, I had a crazy head gear before I could even get braces to deal with my overbite. I would take it off in the middle of the night and throw it across the room in my sleep! I also had to wear a retainer and lost it once in the school cafeteria’s trash and had to go through it all 🙁
Braces weren’t nearly as exciting, but I am so glad that I had them b/c I do get a lot of compliments on my teeth now. Interestingly enough, my mom just got braces at 59! She has always wanted straighter teeth, so I am so happy she got them. And she went to the same orthodontist that my sister and i went to like 20 years ago!!

I never had braces but always wanted them! I have no idea why but I was always envious of friends with them. I’m sure that would have changed had I actually needed them
Nicole says
I never had braces, but I did have another contraption in my mouth, resembling a rake. I sucked my thumb until I was in 5th grade (it was my security blanket I guess), and my parents put an end to it by getting a metal rake-thingy on the roof of my mouth.
I don’t know what was more embarrassing…having a rake or sucking my thumb 🙂
Marta says
I had those braces that were clear instead of metal colored. It looked like I had a set of teeth on top of my teeth. I got my orthodontist to take them off for my quinceañero, and told him I’d be back. Needless to say I never went back!

I totally rocked the neon pink braces in junior high school. I wonder how Invisalign would have been, braces can be painful.
Jessica says
Don’t hate me, but I’ve never had braces! I got lucky…but I do have like a bazillion cavities so I guess it evens out in # of dentist visits and $$???
PS You’ve inspired me to get some froyo now. I’ll think about flossing after, but I probably won’t.

My parents were really proactive and I had my teeth pulled and braces on by grade 5 and was the ONLY kid in my school with them until I was in grade 6. I tried to hide them as best as possible, so I only got colours once (my last appointment).
As a bonus, I had them off in Grade 7, just as everyone else was getting them!

I definitely had braces for about 4 years through middle school and first year of high school. They made me wear headgear at night… it hurt and I looked like a freak! P.S. I think I need invisalign now too!
Janet says
I think Jessica Beil has great teeth! I still remember how amazing it felt to get my braces off. I actually wanted to get braces since all my friends had them! But after two years I was more than ready to get them off.
Jennifer says
I did not love braces….for any of the FOUR YEARS I had to wear them. But I do love that my teeth no longer looked like they are shooting in all different directions 🙂 Thirteen years later, I still wear my retainer! (That makes me feel old)

I think Hugh Jackman has great teeth!
Actually, I think Hugh Jackman is just nice to look at overall, but his fantastic smile is really the icing on the cake!
Jyll says
I had the good ole metal braces! I always got silver bands b/c I didn’t want to draw more attention to my metal mouth. However, before I even got my braces I ahd to wear this hideous looking night guard that looked like a catchers’ mask the pulled my top jaw forward and had a permanent retainer thing in my mouth that my parents had to turn with a key!!! Once I realized I had to get glasses too…I made my parents let me get contacts. I vowed to not have braces AND glasses!!! Now though, I dork out at night next to my hubby with my retainer & glasses 🙂
Kristen says
I had braces for 5 years. Seriously. And it was not awesome. I had them for so long because 1) my orthodontist was a serious tool and took advantage of my parents for not knowing better (when you live in a small town and there’s only one orthodontist, you can’t really shop around), and 2) my teeth were seriously jacked. There for awhile they could’ve doubled as a can opener. I’m pretty sure the heavens parted and the angels sang when my braces were removed!
Ally says
I unfortunately made the terrible (yet awesome at the time) decision to pick a blue sparkly retainer with soccer ball stickers inside it.
The worst was when you’d leave your retainer on your tray at lunch………into the trash it’d go, as you became a certified trashpicker!
Jessica Biel has great teeth too!

I moved a lot growing up and moving in the middle of orthodontic work is not ideal. I started in 4th grade with an orthodontist that didn’t believe in pulling teeth (I have a tiny mouth) so I had an appliance (like a retainer with a key I used to widen it every week) to try to widen my jaw. By 6th grade I was at my 3rd orthodontist and he didn’t see progress being done to my jaw so I had teeth pulled.
Eventually I got braces and once on vacation the bracket came off and my parents found an orthodontist that picked us up from the hotel on a Sunday morning, took us to his office and took the loose bracket off the wire. The best part for my parents is that he didn’t charge anything for that and he was really nice.

I got braces my freshman year in high school, which was MORTIFYING! I went in for a routine tightening and ended up getting them taken off a couple appointments early. It was one of the best surprises ever!

My vote for best celebrity teeth is Ames on The Bachelorette.
Ha. I’m joking. (Although I do love Ames! He’s hilarious and seems extremely sweet.)
Jen says
Hi had awesome metal braces (colored bands of course!) in junior high. The results were good, but my teeth have shifted.
My fiance and I are in the early stages of wedding planning and I am heading to the orthodontist later this month to discuss Invisalign…before we spend the money allllll the things we want for the wedding!

I am a 24 year old teacher and have pretty crooked teeth (I hate them) and am embarassed to have braces at such an “old” age. Maybe invisalign could help though, and no one could see the ‘braces.’ oh, and I would love a giftcard!
Felicia says
I only had braces for a year and a half but I still have my permanent bottom retainer in, 10 years later. I never went back to get it removed, oops!
Lindsey says
I had braces for 8 years…..I had those awful neon bands…..head gear (not cool!)……and almost 10 years later I still have to wear retainers because I’m missing teeth way in the back and I have to hold those “empty” spots—until I get dental implants in a couple months! 🙁 On a VERY positive note…….. I have a BEAUTIFUL smile! (thank you, mom and dad!!)
Sam says
I think Jessica Alba has great teeth!
Katie says
Oh my gosh, your yogurt looks amazing!
It’s not necessarily their teeth, but I think if Ian Ziering and Julia Roberts had a baby, its smile would be able to cure cancer.
Dani says
I had braces TWICE and am currently in them now! I was told I needed jaw surgery when I was 16, two years after my first round of braces ended. I had to wait until I finished growing, so at 18 they finally told me it was time. Well, I was just about to enter college, and was definitely too cool for braces! They told me again a year later, yep, still too cool. Finally, at 20 (now 21) I got braces on! I was so self conscious for months, but I have learned to embrace them. After a surgery that went perfectly, and a recovery that went terribly, I am now 7 weeks post-op and feeling so much better! Braces are definitely more difficult to have as an adult than when I was younger, but it is so worth it, and I have really grown to love my visits with my ortho. He is such a fun guy and I have met so many awesome people through the experience 🙂

I had braces all the way from 8th grade through senior year in high school! Luckily I got them off before my senior prom, but I had them when I had to take my senior year photos! A photographer we knew was well versed in photoshop though, and she helped me out by photoshopping off my braces for my senior yearbook picture. :-# (a smiley face with a metal mouth)
Alaina says
Best teeth would have to be Lea Michael (Rachael from glee!) i’ve never gawked over teeth before in my life until I started watching Glee!
And im thankful to say i’ve never needed braces, but I know I will in the future…I’ve been reading up on some of these comments, and now I know what NOT to do & what to expect. Thank the lawd for embarrassment 😉
Natalie says
I think Giada de Laurentis and Julia Roberts have the best teeth; they are so wide and bright. I use teeth whitening products to try and compete, but a smile like that is hard to come by.
Amy says
My experience with retainers/braces was not fun. I got braces in the 7th grade, when I also got glasses and a bad haircut. Talk about an awkward two years! Luckily by my freshman year of high school, the top braces were off, I didn’t need my glasses and my haircut grew out. 🙂
MeAgan says
I loved the feeling when I got my braces taken off of having smooth, clean, straight teeth!!! 🙂
Maribeth says
Ugh, that’s so gross that they are showing your apartment and intending to rent it out soon with the mice problem. It’s pretty unethical, too, and future tenants should definitely know about it. Hopefully your next place will be rodent-free and you can sleep well at night. 🙂
As far as which celebrity has the best teeth, I’m going to go with the gorgeous Halle Berry!
Chelsea @ Chelsea's Health says
I was a late bloomer when it came to braces. I had them in grades 10 to 12. What a lame time to have them. I got them taken off the morning of graduation photo re-takes. Loved those photos!
I did not do well with the impression molds for my invisalign retainers after. At least they assured me that I was not the only 17 year old with gag reflex issues they have seen.
I had clear braces with clear elastics that would stain every time I ate anything red. I think I lived off alfredo sauces for close to 2 years. Not the best caloric option.
Karina says
Oh wow I am so excited for Harry Potter!! I’m a huge nerd & am going at midnight. Which ties into my nerdy braces in 7th grade… I used to pick colors like black and dark green bands! I thought it looked cool but I can’t imagine it looking like anything more than rotten spinach. Ew 🙁
Erin says
I didn’t get braces until 11th grade 🙁 I only had to have them on for about a year and a half though and I got them off about a week before my senior prom. I loved the way my teeth felt when I got them off. It was even better to see my prom pictures too with my perfect teeth! It made it all worth it 🙂
Devan says
I got my braces off in 7th grade, two days before halloween. If that isn’t the greatest gift for 13 year old, I don’t know what is!! Holy sugar high!
Ryann says
I was so awesome in my braces that I used the match the bands to upcoming holidays!!! In other words, I’d have red white and blue braces to celebrate the Fourth. The only problem was that the bands were changed every 6 weeks, so my holiday cheer was less-than-cool for the weeks after said holiday.
I also was lucky enough to have headgear BEFORE the entire braces experience. I’ve tried to block it from my memory.
Cindy says
I had braces twice–twice!! I had four different retainers, which means four different colorful cases! My experience with braces was alirght–I had a very nice orthodontist. Apart from the pain of tweeking the bands every other week/month, I’m so glad to have had them! I have a permanent retainer on the bottom now, just a metal band behind the front 6 teeth, and a rainbow sparkly retainer for the top that I wear at night.
LOVE the looks of your fro-yo bowl! You need to come to New York City to try 16 handles…16 different flavors (I have to say that peanut butter is the BEST!) with sooooooo many different toppings and sauces!
Taylor says
I never had to have braces, but my little sister (little…she is actually 21 now!) did, complete with the expander and the little crank key. Best teeth/smile would have to go to Julia Roberts in my book (plus I LOVE her laugh)…not many people can pull off that mouth!
Kalynn says
My teeth were HORRIBLE before I got braces! I had to start with a special retainer to fix my overbite, but luckily only had to have braces for about 2 years because I got a special kind called “EZ Braces” which don’t take as long. Otherwise, I would’ve had them for 4+ years! Oh, and I happened to get them put on the day before I started my freshman year of high school when I had Speech class. SPEECH CLASS! I could barely open my mouth, much less talk! We all had to get up and tell the class about ourselves, and I was in a class full of senior guys. I turned every possible shade of red! Of course, everyone else thought my slurring & lisp were SO funny! haha

I think Halle Berry has amazing teeth!!!

oh god, I always decided seasonal/holiday colors were a good idea… sigh. Good thing those middle-school yearbook photos were in black and white!
Shannon says
I got my braces off freshman year of high school… after having them since the summer going into 7th grade! I remember being so psyched to be able to bite into anything I wanted without worrying about what would get stuck in my braces and how I’d have to use that special toothbrush with the pick on the end to get it out. Gross.
Even though it wasn’t fun at the time, I’m grateful that my parents made me get them because today I have great teeth!
Amy @ Elephant Eats says
You should have just had Sadie open the door for the realtor, since she’s home all day. If she doesn’t wanna help out with that, you really should have her start looking for a job 😉

I was dealing with orthodontics in some shape or form for SEVEN years when I was younger. They shifted really badly when I was like ten or eleven, so I needed them bad. I had it all: spacers, head gear, braces, the bands between your teeth, retainers, etc. My brothers were the same way…eek! Needless to say, we love our mom x a billion for spending so much money on our teeth! Now I love my smile and would love to fill my mouth with food from whole foods!

I had braces starting in elementary school till 7th grade. I had some beautiful teeth when most kids were just getting their braces on. But of course, I never wore my retainer and am thinking about doing invisalign eventually. Lesson learned.

I got my braces off the day after picture day of my freshman year in high school. Many, many years later, I still wear my watermelon design retainer! I loved having braces & my favorite color combo was navy blue & light blue and now I have amazingly straight teeth & smile all of the time to sow them off. 🙂
Kelly says
I had braces in middle school and I used to love picking the different colors for the bands but I will never forget the feeling when they were finally taken off! 🙂
