After working through the morning (lots of research for a freelance piece!), I was more than ready for a break.
My break came at 1 p.m., as I headed out the door to College Park Orthodontics to check in with my orthodontist to make sure everything was looking okay with my teeth following my treatment with Invisalign.
I wanted to have new retainers made before we move to Ocala, so I booked an appointment and was really looking forward to seeing my orthodontist again. I love her!
My orthodontist got married about a year before me, so I loved visiting her and chatting about everything wedding related during my Invisalign treatment. Then, a couple of months ago, she had a beautiful baby boy. She emailed me pictures and showed me more today and he is the cutest little guy!
My appointment went really well and I will have brand spankin’ new retainers in less than two weeks… in “passion pink.” Yes, I got to pick the color. And yes, I’m 26-years-old and picking the colors of my retainers and the flavors of the gooey stuff they put in your mouth to take the impressions for retainers still excites me.
If you happen to live in Orlando and are in need of a fantastic orthodontist, I highly recommend Dr. Williams. She has degrees from Boston College, Harvard and the University of Florida and is all-around awesome. She’s also offering a promo right now: If you sign up for Invisalign treatment with her before August 1, you get a $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority. Sweet deal, huh?
She also offered to do a little giveaway on the blog!
Two readers will receive their choice of one $50 gift card to Whole Foods or Sports Authority, courtesy of College Park Orthodontics.
To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post in one of two ways:
- Tell me about your experience with braces. How amazing it felt when you got your braces off, how you looked like a total toolbag in junior high because you picked neon rubber bands… Share!
or
- Tell me which celebrity you think has the best teeth. My vote is for Carrie Underwood.
I will randomly select two winners tomorrow afternoon.
Lunch
Lunch today was enjoyed en route to the orthodontist. I ate a quesadilla with apple slices and Canadian bacon in the car, so no photo was snapped.
I did snap a photo of dessert though!
After my orthodontist appointment, I stopped by a fro yo place and enjoyed a cup of white chocolate mousse, espresso, triple chocolate and Butterbeer frozen yogurt (can’t WAIT for Harry Potter tomorrow!!!) topped with peanut M&Ms, Golden Grahams, Butterfinger crumbles, yogurt pretzels, cookie dough, cheesecake and brownie bits.
The whole thing was resting in my belly within two minutes of me digging in.
And now I’m blogging away in Starbucks where I plan to spend the remainder of my afternoon.
A realtor has been showing our apartment to prospective tenants this whole week and I had to get out of there. The realtor doesn’t have a key, so I’ve had to be there for every showing and today I finally told her I’d hide her a key because I feel like I’m lying by omission as potential tenants come in and I don’t say anything about the mice. She understands how bad the situation is and I can’t believe they’re trying to rent it out when the problem is so immense.
You better believe I am asking EVERY homeowner about a history of mice before we move in somewhere in Ocala!
And I’m off!
Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

I never had braces. But, I did have to have an extra tooth pulled (I had five instead of four), and once that was done my teeth started to straighten out.
I think Carrie Underwood has great teeth, but who can deny Julia Robert’s smile?!
Sara says
I just remember the stage of having braces where you had to wear the rubber bands across your whole mouth… That was the worst, because it was hard to talk!
Primrose says
I wanted braces when I was younger because I had a slight but noticeable overbite but my dentist made me wear retainers instead for 6 months or so and despite what he said my teeth came out looking exactly the same. Now I’m 24 and probably too old for braces although I still have that annoying overbite. I’m tempted by invisilign but my dentist tells me I’m more likely to get good results with traditional braces.
Kelly says
I had braces for 2 years throughout middle school and I opted for bright blue ones. I’ll let you take a minute to imagine my school photos….yeah…my mother was not amused! ha!
Taylor says
I vote Carrie Underwood too! She’s got fabulous teeth!
Kara says
Oh, my braces. They were always obnoxiously colorful (points for style?). Rubber bands in purple and green if it was my best friend’s birthday month, red and grey during football season, red and green during the holidays…why did my parents allow me to look like that?! I had them from 5th – 7th grade and I can remember running my tongue over my teeth when they finally came off because it was such a weird feeling. The first thing I ate was a frozen Snickers bar!
Jackie says
i totally agree with you–carrie underwood has the PERFECT teeth & smile. also i had braces in middle school up to end of sophmore yr in hschool. talk about GROSS
Nan says
I had braces in high school and midway through ended up having to get 4 of my adult teeth pulled to correct my bite! They didn’t bother me too much but the most painful experience was actually getting them off – idk why but my teeth hurt SO much for a good week afterward. It wasn’t all bad though… nothing a week of ice cream couldn’t fix!
Ashley says
I think Faith Hill has great teeth!

I actually never had braces, but I always wanted them! Everyone who has had them says I’m crazy but when I was in elementary/middle school the cool thing was to have colored rubber bands on your braces – I was always left out! I remember girls always had pink & red on valentine’s day and boys got orange and black on Halloween. I also always wanted a retainer. So much so I borrowed a bubblegum flavor retainer from a boy down the street but my parents freaked. And now looking back, I am rather grossed out that I stuck someone else’s retainer in my mouth!
I have to agree that Carrie has the best teeth & smile 🙂

I had an expander, braces, rubber bands, and… prepare yourself… HEADGEAR. Yeah, it sucked. I only had to wear it at night, but I wore it maybe only a couple hours at night. I’m glad I’m done with all that! I got my braces off my very last day of 8th grade and was able to attend my middle school graduation (big deal!) braces-less! Whoot.
Also, I’m seeing Harry Potter at midnight tonight. WAY. TOO. EXCITED!!!
Kelly says
This post made me laugh out loud because of how awkward it was having braces and having green and red bands for Christmas! Those pictures make me want to die now! I have been looking into invisalign, unfortunately I’m nowhere near fl

I got my braces halfway through high school and got them off after freshman year of college. I needed them because I’m missing two of my top teeth.
Heather says
JENNIFER GARNER – perfect smile and pearly whites 🙂
Hillary says
First of all, Butterbeer frozen yogurt? Why don’t I live in Orlando?
Second of all (don’t hate me!): I never needed braces. My teeth came in absolutely perfect. If it’s any consolation, I’m nearly legally blind, and once they pulled my wisdom teeth my whole mouth started to shift. Le sigh!
Rachel says
I first had a retarded retainer that had to be turned with a key to widen my mouth. Then I had braces from 3rd grade until 9th grade with a short break in 4th/5th grade. While I had braces I had to use the rubber bands and the dreaded headgear!! Ugh! When I got them off my teeth felt huge and I thought my front teeth looked like the chicklet gums.
My boyfriend is finishing up with invisalign, and he loves how virtually easy and short it has been.
Meg says
I had braces through 8th and 9th grade. They weren’t that bad, as it seemed like practically everyone else had them too. I remember the day I got them off and the orthodontist and the assistants kept saying how great my teeth looked BEFORE they would let me see. It was totally worth it though–they looked great (and still do!). I wouldn’t change a thing.
Devon says
I had braces from 5th to 7th grade but never really minded having them since almost everyone else did at that tiem too! 🙂
Kelly says
I had crazy braces… including headgear they wanted me to wear to school (yeah, right 🙂 ) and was self conscious about them but I LOVED getting them off and seeing my results. I am grateful everyday my parents ponied up for braces, I had awful teeth!! And Carrie Underwood totally has great teeth.
Heather (Heather's dish) says
I had braces for six years…six years! Needless to say I was ecstatic when I got those bad boys off…but I love my teeth now!
Sarah says
Having straight teeth now almost makes up for wearing those horrendous neon rubber bands. Almost.
Katie D. says
Haha, I still wear my retainer 6 years later every night, and while I hated it at first, I can’t sleep without it now. Kind of like a pacifier…would love to win this!
Diane says
I had braces from 3-5 grade … lots of holiday colors all up in my mouth for most of my childhood. Yes, very cute. 😉
Then, my wisdom teeth shifted my teeth so I had invisalign from 10th grade til the summer after my freshman year of college. I agree, Carrie Underwood has great teeth and so does Anne Hathaway!
Michelle Caputo says
Gary Busey!!!
Michelle Caputo says
LMAO- no seriously….I’d have to agree, Carrie Underwood
Jen says
Thank goodness I only had to wear my headgear at night–I might have not have had friends otherwise! 😉
Sarah says
I wish Invisalign has been around when I had braces in the 4th grade. However, I did enjoy picking out holiday themed colored bands…black and orange, red and green or my favorite Glow in the dark! I shudder to think of the chemicals my body absorbed from those but damn I looked cool! I also did party tricks where I hooked pencil erasers on various pokey parts and walked around growling or used the top to bottom bands as slingshots. I was super popular. *cough*
Julia says
I think Jennifer Gardner has some beautifullll teeth and smile 🙂
Kaelin says
The ironic truth is… I couldn’t wait to get braces on in 6th grade! I thought it was a real coming of age moment. All the “big kids” had them! And then I had them on for over 3 years…. At first I loved changing my rubber bands out to match that month’s holiday, but by the end I stuck to my tried and true favorite color – clear. Hahaha….. and then I graduated to my green sparkly retainer!!
Kerry says
Having braces in junior high was hard enough but the fact that i always chose rubber band colors corresponding with a recent holiday made me even more of a dork. (even though i thought it was cool at the time) 😉
Melissa says
I felt so good when my braces came off! They looked like perfect white squares! PS I agree- Carrie Underwood has great teeth!
Sigi says
After 3 years I was super excited to have my braces removed (and even more excited to have a smile that didn’t make me self-conscious)!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
So many celebs to choose from, but Halle Berry has great teeth!
Gina G says
I had to wear braces twice! Oh and trust me I definitely had some wild colors! haha
thanks for this opportunity!
Oh and I think Jessica Alba has a really nice smile! 🙂
Tracey says
Wow, thanks for such a great giveaway! I agree that Carrie Underwood has the very best celebrity smile – I once read an interview where she said she contributes some of her success to her orthodontist!
Julia @ Watermelon Smiles says
I was really lucky to never need braces, but now I wish I had them because my teeth aren’t perfect.
I did get a sparkly blue retainer that I wore too school until I realized I looked (and talked) a little dorky haha. Then I only wore them at night.
And when I think of good teeth, I instantly think of Julia Roberts… maybe because we have the same name? 🙂
Nathan Miller says
Brooklyn Decker…best smile out there
Shari says
I was so lucky that I did not need braces. I was the one who had the awful glasses and back in that time they were totally uncool.
Jennifer Aniston has beautiful teeth.
Jessica says
I’m one of the lucky ones who never had to have braces, but I loved the little colored rubber bands. In fact, I used to pretend I had braces by folding colored rubber bracelets in half and putting them in my mouth. Awesome.
Kristine @ Running on Hungry says
I had braces in highschool and like the dork I was (am) would color coordinate my rubber bands to the holiday or season. By my last round of rubber bands I was strictly on the silver ones but oh my goodness was I happy when those babies came off!!
Rebecca says
I hated and loved my braces at the same time. I only wore them for about a year, but they were so painful! I suffered from a bad overbite, so they were constantly being tightened to pull my teeth back… LOTS of nights were spent with a liquid diet and plenty of ibuprofen. At the same time, I loved getting to pick the colors. When they finally came off, I had that same feeling of the slippery-ness of my teeth. It was such a big difference, even though I hadn’t had them for that long. I’m so glad I got them though, because my teeth look SO much better than they had before, and definitely had a positive impact on my self-image.
Allie Smith says
I would have to vote Jennifer Anniston! She has a beautiful smile
Erin says
Haha actually, when I got my braces off, they felt so weird I kind of wanted them back on!
Kristin says
Ahhh my experience with braces lasted from 8th grade until 10th grade. And although that doesn’t seem like a long time now that I look at it, IT WAS THE SLOWEST TWO YEARS OF MY LIFE.
But then the metal came off and I enjoyed my new slimy teeth by smiling non-stop, 24-7.
So long story short WHO RA for the braces
Ashlie says
I never had braces…my teeth aren’t perfect, but they aren’t bad enough for me to get them either. I guess I’m pretty lucky. The best Hollywood teeth to me reside in Sandra Bullock’s mouth 🙂 Or maybe its just ’cause she’s my fave!
Karen says
It felt so good to get my braces off after wearing them for four years. I have to agree with you about Carrie Underwood’s teeth as well as her beautiful hair. I would LOVE, love the Whole Foods gift card as I have always wanted to buy something there.
jen says
I had braces from the time I was 19 to almost 22. I just got them off a little over a year ago and I can’t even begin to tell you how the day I got them off was the BEST day of my entire life! My insurance wouldn’t pay for invisalign so I was stuck with metal braces. I hated how everyone I worked with treated me like a 12 year old and on my 21st birthday I got accused of having a fake id. Thank goodness my super cool dad had my back or else I would have probably been banned from Las Vegas.
Ell says
when i had braces they were “in” for some reason. So “in ” in fact that another girl on my bus who didnt have braces put nail polish on her teeth so she could look like they needed them.
Cheryl says
I had invisalign and normal braces. I had a tooth that had grown up inside my gums so they had to literally pull it down with braces. I had them from 11th grade to my sophomore year in college.. I felt like braceface, if you have no clue who she is here is a link lol (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286347/)!!
LisaM says
I think Jessica Biel has really nice teeth. However, I am also a True Blood fan and I love Anna Paquins gap in her front teeth.
Sara says
Oh my gosh. . I did the dumbest thing when I got my braces off. First off it was like the 3rd week of being in high school. . I decided to wear my retainer to school the day I got them off. . who does that??? But I do remember the boy who I was crushing on gave me a huge compliment and advice to just wear the retainer at home!
