Good morning, party people!
I hope your Thursday is off to a good start. My day began before dawn when my alarm clock blared, abruptly waking me up in the middle of a dream. I must have been dreaming about a concert or something because a song was playing in my head when the music of my alarm started playing and clashed with my dream song. It was like Battle of the Bands: Dream Edition.
Apparently we are starting this Thursday on quite a little tangent!
Breakfast
After my alarm went off, I got dressed in comfy travel clothes and headed into the kitchen to eat the breakfast I assembled (and photographed) last night.
Oatmeal + Black cherry Greek yogurt + Cashews + Pumpkin seeds + Dried cranberries
My dad, sister and I were all ready to head out the door by 5:30 a.m. and drove to the airport to board the first flight out to Baltimore. We should be arriving shortly!
My mom will be picking us up at the airport (she arrived in Pennsylvania on Monday to bring my grandma home from the hospital) and then we have plans to grab some food at a diner before spending the afternoon with my grandma, Nana. After that, it’s onto my grandma Mimi’s house in Gettysburg!
Question of the Morning
- Do you wake up to a certain song as your alarm clock?
When I’m at home in Ocala, Ryan and I use a regular alarm clock with one heck of an annoying beep. Whenever I travel, I use the alarm clock on my phone and wake up to “Call Me Maybe.” I know it’s a weird song to wake up to, but it’s a good one because it eases into the energetic part of the song. I appreciate the way it builds so I can motivate myself to get out of bed before the chorus starts blaring. When Ryan travels he listens to the a cappella version of “Wavin’ Flag” by the YellowJackets. If you love a cappella, definitely give it a listen! It’s a good one!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
I have an ancient alarm clock that barely gets any radio stations and sadly, I don’t have a smartphone to use as my alarm clock, so basically I just wake-up to whatever radio station comes in at that time. Come to think of it, it’s actually kind of annoying. I really need a smartphone! 😉
Jackie Macharsky says
Haha I’m not sure I could ever not wake up happy after waking up to call me maybe!
James says
It’s an annoying beep for me. I’m a pain to get out of bed in the morning, so I need something harsh and LOUD.
Amy @ The Little Honey Bee says
Your breakfast bowl looks amazing! Loving cashews lately.
Lindsey says
Nope I have always woken up to the annoying beeping on my alarm clock! It does the trick lol.
Jackie says
I think my favorite song to wake up to is “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant. It just cracks me up every time because it talks about getting no rest while it’s waking me up. Another one is “Meet Me Halfway” by the Black Eyed Peas. It’s another ironic one because I literally have to meet the floor halfway by putting my feet down. If a song can get me to laugh, I’ll usually wake up.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
My alarm clock is always “old phone” on the iphone. It is so terribly annoying but it is what gets me up and out of bed in the morning! Other things take too long to wake me up – I have tried changing it but it seems to have the best result! Enjoy your travels!
Megan says
I have a melody play that is on my cell phone, when I am at the bfs house he has a song that I love that wakes us up on his Sonas system. I haven’t a clue what it is called though : )
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
My iPhone just starts beeping at me. And it’s an annoying beep so I have to turn it off. It works out well for waking me up 😉 Have fun!
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says
Have fun on your mini family vacation! 🙂 I just wake up to the classic iPhone alarm song…annoying but it wakes me up!
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
I awake to the radio, so there are often times where I keep dreaming because people are talking lol then there are times when I wake up confused as to why music is playing, often those times are when it’s Tuesday or Wednesday and I think it’s Saturday lol
Kelsey @ Ramblings of Change says
I used to pick a song that would wake me up softly and get my energized! I have since started to use the Sleep Cycle app on my phone, and you can either pick some soft noise or music; I think my latest choice was a soft tone with chimes. I also have a Jawbone UP and it vibrates on my wrist to wake me up – I love it!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I wake up to “93 Million Miles” every morning. It’s one of my favorites!
Laura says
Most of the time it’s just some default alarm sound, but every year as soon as thanksgiving has passed I switch it to the song from the opening credits of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – it’s the absolute best way to wake up
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
I don’t wake up to a song–just the iPhone alarm! Usually it’s Nick’s, because he sleeps through it and then it wakes ME up!
Elsa says
Your breakfast looks mouth-watering-ly delicious 😉 enjoy!
Have a wonderful time with your family and Nanas…
Currently I am so tired I use the loud horrible beeep on my cellphone to make sure I actually wake up. When I’m not so tired, for a while I used the “Walking on Sunshine” song by Katrina & the Waves 😉 it always woke me up with a start and put a spring in my step 🙂
Dana says
I don’t wake up to a song, just one of the iPhone alerts! But I typically write myself a message in there for a little extra motivation to get up and workout! 4:30 am wake-up calls are NOT fun!
mary @ minutes per mile says
i lived in baltimore for four years (now in DC!) and just ran a marathon in gettysburg this past spring. what a cute, quirky, historic town! have a good trip!!
Karina Vargas says
My alarm is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story 🙂
Lauren says
Have a great time in Gettysburg. It’s supposed to be rainy here the next few days, but I’m a bit east of Gettysburg. Hopefully it clears up for you!
Jessica R @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad says
I use the quietest sound on my phone that I can as an alarm. Since the iphone update the sound has been different and I’ve needed to turn it up so it wakes me up but then it also wakes up my husband. Quite the predicament! Using a song to wake up sounds like a fun idea. My husbands phone has a rooster sound that wakes him up. I HATE that thing. It is amazing how certain alarm sounds can make us crazy.
Abi says
I’ve been waking up to “build me up buttercup” for the last month or two. I’m now capable of immediately identifying this song from only listening to about 2 seconds of it.
Katie says
I wake up to Glitter in the Air by Pink 🙂
Jillienne@ChasingRaspberries says
Oooo! That’s a good one to wake up to!
Ashley says
I had that Wake me Up song by Wham as my alarm in college on my first flip phone…I thought I was so clever but after a week my roommates wanted to kill me!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
When I was in high school I had an alarm clock radio and I remember having a dream where the person I was talking to suddenly started singing – it was my alarm going off! I just use regular tones on my phone now. For a while I used the song “Thrift Shop” but now everytime I hear that song I get a bad feeling, haha so I don’t want to ruin any more songs!
Sara says
I don’t wake up to a song, just the normal iPhone ringtone – but it’s funny how many days I wake up with a song ALREADY in my head!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I use my phone as an alarm clock–=and it’s set to the reaaaallllyy annoying beeping sound. I freaking love & hate it b/c it sucks but boy does it get me up right away!
Have fun!
PV says
Thank you so much for linking to that Yellowjackets version of Wavin Flag! I love it and it’s going on my workout playlist.
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
My husband is my alarm clock. lol!
Your breakfast looks delicious! I am going to have to try that!!
Mark Knight says
Love the song “Call Me Maybe.” I have never woke up to this song though. I did wake up a few times to Kylie – Locomotion. Long story…
Samantha says
My alarm clock sound is Sandstorm by Darude. Definitely gets you up and moving in the morning!
Amanda Spoden says
On Top of the World – Imagine Dragons =)
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
I used to try and put songs on my phone for my alarms, but they always ended up just making their way into my dreams and not actually waking me up. I’m a pretty heavy sleeper! So now I have to have a super loud, annoying beeping sound as an alarm clock, and sometimes my husband still has to pick me up and drop me on the floor to wake me up (no joke, it’s happened).
Ashley says
Zach has to get up way earlier than I do most days — so his alarm “song” is INGRAINED into my brain. Unfortunately it’s a really common ringer that I hear at work all the time. Definitely a bad correlation! It drives me nuts every time!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
I wake up way before my husband does, so I use my cell phone on vibrate under my pillow. I like it a lot better than loud alarms, but it’d be nice to wake up to music too!
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind says
I end up hating whatever sound wakes me up in the morning, so I just have a standard alarm that sounds like a harp.
Ali says
I love eating yogurt with oatmeal! Best combo ever.
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
I use my iPhone as my alarm clock, so I just use one of the ring tones programmed in the phone. Although the iOS 7 update did change up the ringtone list, so that was nice!
Ang @ Nutty for Life says
I hope you have a wonderful time in Gettysburg with your family and grandma, especially since I’m sure you’ll want to cherish this time with her since she was sick. And enjoy the fall weather, too! Personally, I like to wake up with Coldplay as my alarm song.
Alex @ Cookie Dough Katzen says
I like the idea of waking up to a fun song like that! I’ll have to try it 🙂
Sammy @ Peace Love and Ice Cream says
OMG – you were up so early! Hope you have a safe travel day!
I have an alarm clock – in the form of a 4-year-old little boy – and I LOVE it! 🙂 And I do really like the song ‘Call me Maybe’…I’m like a teenager lol

Ashlee@HisnHers says
My husband has that new Luke Bryan song That’s My Kind of Night for his alarm and it’s sooooo annoying. One of these mornings if I can muster up the strength to reach over to his side table I might just break his phone 😉 haha
Kimberly says
I use pretty standard iPhone alarms but my fiancé alternates between the Game of Thrones intro and Xfiles intro songs. I have learned to be careful about what song I choose as an alarm because I start to have strong, negative feelings towards it after a few mornings. 😉
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
I just wake up to an alarm sound now, but in college, I’d wake up to “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani.. my roommate HATED it haha.
Shari says
I wake up to a rooster crowing alarm on my phone.
Anna @ Fitness à la Anna says
I had ‘The Way I Are’ by Timbaland and Kerri Hilson as my alarm clock for yearssss…every time I hear it now I think that its my phone haha
Molly says
Call me maybe is such a gosh darn catchy song. That would make it challenging to not wake up. I like Footloose, thinking of Kevin Bacon dancing makes me laugh.
Tara@PNWRunner says
I used to have songs for my alarm clocks, but then I decided to change it back to a simple ring tone. I dont know what it is called, but I prefer something that will wake me up that isn’t super annoying!
Nicole says
My boyfriend wakes up to “DANGER ZONE” from Top Gun (he’s a Navy Guy, so that ramps him up.)
One night, as a prank, I switched up to “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne. I think we both had mild heart-attacks when it started in the morning! Hahaha!
Aubrey says
OMG! I live about 45 minutes away from Baltimore! I love your blog, you inspire me so much! 🙂
