Hey, hey, hey!
I hope things are going well in your neck of the woods.
I worked through the morning on a freelance piece. I budgeted more time than I ended up needing for the article, which was great. The words were flowin’! I love it when that happens.
When lunchtime rolled around, I had only one thought on my mind.
Enchiladas!
I reheated the two remaining enchiladas that we had leftover from last night’s dinner and enjoyed them with a bowl of fresh strawberries.
I was afraid the enchiladas would be mushy, but they tasted just as good the second time around.
After lunch, I headed out to a 1 p.m. car appointment. I’ve been postponing buying new breaks for a while now, but today was the day. I made sure to bring my laptop with me so I could walk next door and hop on Dunkin’ Donuts’ free wifi and work while I wait.
I’ve been here for a little more than two hours now and am hoping my car is ready soon. I have a cake to make once I get home!
Ryan and I are attending a BBQ tonight with our small group and I’m on dessert duty. I bought everything I need to make the Pioneer Woman’s Best Chocolate Sheet Cake Ever and I’m anxious to get home and start baking.
I cannot remember the last time I made a cake from scratch and I’ve heard fantastic things about Ree’s sheet cake. I hope it’s a winner and that everyone likes it tonight. If not, I bought ice cream to go along with the cake and ice cream is always a hit!
Question of the Afternoon
- Whenever you’re asked to bring a dish to a party, what do you usually bring?
I almost always volunteer to bring a dessert unless it’s Thanksgiving and then I’m all about side dishes!
Those enchiladas look amazing! Can you believe I’ve never had one before?! For some reaosn they seem super complicated to make, so I just never try. Maybe I should try it out, since I do love Mexican.
Well, that cake sounds super delicious, so I’m sure it will be amazing!
Usually, I’m the person bringing along some sort of weird veggie dish. Most people like it though!
oh my gosh, they are SO EASY to make! i thought they would be a lot harder to make, but they were very simple. definitely give them a go!
I always offer to bring dessert too because I’m a good baker but not a great cook!
I usually bring a cheese ball .. like a fat kid 🙂
always a winner in my book! <3 cheese!
I always bring a bag of lollipops to a potluck! There’s always going to be brownies and cupcakes, but no one ever thinks to bring lollipops. They’re ALWAYS the first thing gone!
I honestly haven’t done much baking in my life. I think I’d be whipping up a box cake if it was me! I need to fix that.
I typically bring appetizers to parties. I am known for my dips and for really big parties I will make so much that it’s served in my big crockpot. Buffalo chicken, jalapeno popper, taco… omg, I want all of this now.
I’m all about bringing a dessert too! I’m famous with my family and friends for my cupcakes, particularly my cupcake that tastes exactly like a TastyKake Kandy Kake, yummm 🙂
That cake IS great. So easy, too!
Can’t wait to here how the cake turns out (and see it!) I love baking, I’m always on dessert duty!
That sheet cake is fabulous! I made it for the base of an artist-themed birthday cake I was commissioned to make last year. Have fun baking!
For summer BBQ’s I like to bring a fruit salad! Everyone loves it and you can pick at it before dinner or for dessert!
Those strawberries look perfect! I love making desserts, especially different kinds of bars like brownies, layer bars, cookie bars, etc.
Waiting on anything car related is SO boring. Oil changes, breaks, tires, car SHOPPING. Yuck!
On another note, I think I’ll come join your group tonight so I can have some cake & ice cream! 😉
Have you read Black Heels and Tractor Wheels? Its Ree’s love story with Marlboro Man and I LOVED it!
no! i should check it out. thanks for the rec!
I love bringing desserts! By far my favorite thing to contribute.
9 times out of 10 I always bring dessert and it’s always Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies which are basically a chocolate chip cookies with some oats and peanut butter in them. They are hands down my favorite dessert ever, and that’s big talk coming from me 🙂
I love bringing desserts. I’ve made that cake before and it was a huge hit so I’m sure everyone will love it!
Those enchiladas look awesome!! I’m with you on the sides at Thanksgiving! I usually go for an easy cake/pie dessert or an easy app. for other gatherings.
We almost always bring deserts to the gatherings we are invited to. I have to admit it but we usually brig ice cream.
I’ve never had an enchillada before but they look amazing, so it’s off to Google for me! haha
I’ve loved all of Ree’s recipes that I’ve made. I keep hoping to win one of her contests to go hang out & cook for a weekend at her ranch.
I made that cake for a coworker’s birthday back in January and it was a hit…even with people who don’t like chocolate cake!
I loooove homemade enchiladas. So simple and so tasty. I can’t wait to see how the cake turns out! I’m sure it’ll be insanely amazing. Can’t go wrong with chocolate cake!
I make Pioneer Woman’s Dump Cake. Everyone loves it!!
I hate getting my car serviced…it takes forever and it always ends of being more expensive than they originally tell you. Ugh!
The chocolate sheet cake sounds great! I love baking, so when I go to parties I’m always the designated dessert maker! I’ll often make brownies and sometimes a cake and cookies! This weekend, my husband and I are going to my parents’ house for dinner and I’ll be making a chocolate cake!
I try to bring something healthy and gluten free since there’s usually not many options for me – I can’t decide if people love you or hate you for bringing a healthy dish to a cookout!
Those enchiladas look good! I usually volunteer to bring a salad as I’ve got a great recipe for this Cypriot salad made from cracked wheat that has onion, capers, raisins, cilantro, toasted pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds and lots of other goodies and it is always a big hit.
Last year for Christmas I was on dessert duty so I ended up making ice cream plum pudding, cookies from scratch and mini pecan pies from scratch.
Alcohol.
I LOVE Pioneer Woman’s sheet cake. You won’t be disappointed!!
Oh, that cake looks delicious! If I have time I will make some sort of fruit salad or fruit pizza. If I don’t have a ton of time hummus with pretzel crisps and some Angies Kettle Corn always go over well!
I really like to take dessert too because you can’t ever go wrong, everyone loves sugar! I make really good baked beans though, so sometimes I take those to picnics instead.
I often bring cole slaw 😉
Dessert. No question about it. Although for this weekend, I am hoping to bring something other than dessert to my cousin’s house…I am sure that will require me to still make dessert since everyone looks forwards to my goodies.
I usually end up bringing either a dessert or a dip because they’re a little easier for me to make and bring. Last time we had our Chicago Blogger Book Club I brought a white bean and cauliflower dip I made! So good!
I love baking, so I usually bring cookie brownies! They’re so good. I just found a recipe for Fiesta Rice that was delicious that may be my new go-to side dish.
Dessert for sure!! So many options, and if all else fails you can always bring fresh fruit – always a hit!
I love to bring desserts or some sort of dip, but because I’m a vegetarian, hosts always put me on salad duty. So instead of bringing just a plain old salad, I like to mix it up!
I like bringing desserts too. I always think that they’re somehow more fun to make.
i usually bring dessert….but i usually buy it. lol.
Whenever I go to a party or event, I almost always take my Sugar and Flour-Free Vegan Turtle Brownies. They taste amazing and I always have people asking me for the recipe, even non-vegans!
Everything she makes on her Food Network cooking show looks fantastic so I’m sure it’ll come out great! Plus, she makes things which are pretty easy to make by yourself! I hope it turns out well! I wish my auto store had a Dunkin Donuts next door. It’s the worst waiting for your car to get finished.
If it’s a sports party, then the famous chili cheese dip and veggies and chips. If the hostess asks for something specific or has dietary restrictions then I bust out the ipad and find something that will suffice.
We usually bring the alcohol (it’s easy and nobody ever complains!) or a delicious side dish, depending on the mood of the party.
Ree’s chocolate sheet cake is my go-to for birthdays!!! It’s absolutely amazing. But, as a helpful hint for the future – if you make it the day before and let it sit in the fridge overnight it becomes SO dense and foodgasmic – I highly recommend!
I could care less what I eat for dinner so I always bring the dessert. Soft choc chip cookies are my go to!
I always volunteer to bring dessert too! I think it’s usually the most fun and people seem to look forward to it 🙂 Sometimes I do a side dish – basically, I’ll do anything but I always have to put a “twist” on it.
I love making dessert too…I book marked this recipe because my dad LOVES chocolate cake!! Have fun baking.
Ree rarely fails, so I bet the cake will be fantastic. Have a great time at the BBQ!
I made Pioneer Woman’s sheet cake for my dad’s company party and everyone went CRAZY over it!!! I had to make another one for him to bring to work the next week!
Mmmm chocolate cake! I love cake, but am a brownie lover through and through. If you are looking for a killer homemade brownie, these are seriously the best.

Oh, GET PUMPED. Ree’s chocolate sheet cake is divine. So classic and simple and wonderful.
