You’ll also find protein powder, laundry detergent, a new makeup brush and birthday party supplies in this roundup proving, yet again, that Amazon is clearly a go-to one stop shop for our family. Haha!
And just in case you want to check them out, here are my past Amazon hauls:
Amazon Haul #4: June 2021
I was inspired to buy this lounge set by my friend Lauren when she wore the coziest little matching set to one of our small group meetings. I was already in the market for something comfortable to wear around the house (especially when we have guests) that didn’t look sloppy or too much like pajamas and this set ended up being a winner. It is perfectly lightweight and comfortable — a great summertime find. I’ve found myself reaching for it on repeat which I think is always a good sign!
I tried using the famous Isle of Paradise sunless tanning drops a while back and, after sharing my gripes with them on Instagram Stories, I learned that I likely need a darker shade and that the drops are better for the face than the body. Good to know! Annnd so I went back to ordering my tried-and-true sunless tanning favorite: NKD Skin Gradual Glow Daily Tan Moisturizer. I’ve been using this one for years (and first mentioned it on the blog back in 2017!) and only veered from this one because I liked the concept of adding tanning drops to regular lotion. Well, I’m back on the NKD Skin train and think I’ll be staying aboard for the foreseeable future because this stuff WORKS.
It doesn’t have a strong smell when you apply it (a very slight smell does seem to develop as your tan intensifies) and it is free of all parabens and fragrances. It goes on clear and builds a tan gradually (I notice a tan begin to emerge about six hours or so after I apply it) and moisturizes my skin with aloe vera, shea butter and lychee. It’s one of the most natural-looking sunless tanners I’ve found which is why I’ve been using it for so long and love that it adds color to my skin while making it feel hydrated and smooth.

Coverups
Hooray for adorable coverups! I kept finding myself reaching for shorts and a tank for our lake days or pool playdates and realized I didn’t really have any comfortable, breezy swimsuit coverups I loved. Amazon to the rescue! I ended up finding a handful of coverups I adore and I’ve been cycling through all of them on repeat this summer.
First up is this wrap tie maxi skirt! I love that this can be paired with a swimsuit in a way that still lets the swimsuit shine. It’s cute and the material is breezy without being too thin. I also love that the white color allows a faint pop of color from my swimsuit to show through it without being too revealing.
My second find was this white button-down coverup. I wore this one to and from the waterpark during our Tennessee vacation and loved that it offered a bit more coverage without looking frumpy. It has great ratings and at a price point of less than $30, I thought it was a great find! (I ordered a medium.)
Third up on my mission to find a good coverup was this romper that ended up blowing me away! I figured it would be a rather thin romper but the material is thicker than expected and the quality way exceeded my expectations… so much so that I also pair this one with a bralette and wear it as an outfit outside of just a swimsuit coverup! (I ordered a medium.)
I’ve had an an Artis makeup brush for years that is the best for applying foundation in a way that allows me to us less makeup and get a smooth finish. That’s still the brush I’d recommend x 1,000 but recently I added a flat-top kabuki makeup brush to my Amazon cart to try after seeing some beauty influencers using it. It is the kind of makeup brush that almost needs to be broken in but after two or three applications, I found myself loving it and use it almost every day when I’m not going all-out in the makeup department and just want to apply my ILIA super serum and a swipe of my W3LL People multi-use creamy color stick and call it a day. It has 18,000+ positive reviews and is crazy cheap compared to similar makeup brushes — only $10 — and is now a staple in my makeup bag.

Summer Finds for the Boys
I included these purchases in last week’s Things I’m Loving Friday roundup but wanted to give them a shout out here as well since they have definitely been some of my favorite Amazon finds from the past few months! (Skim over this if you aren’t interested in kid stuff or already saw this last Friday!)
Find #1: Neon Rash Guard Tees. I am a sucker for plain neon rash guards for the boys because the bright color makes it easy to spot them when they’re running around at the pool or beach or around water. I found these rash guard tees on Amazon and love them! (Our ISR instructor actually praised me for them yesterday from a water safety standpoint, too!) The material is soft and the quality is great. Considering the fact that the boys live in swimsuits and rash guards all summer, I should probably order another pair of these shirts.
Find #2: Slip-On Velcro Sandal Slides. Aside from Natives which hold up shockingly well, most of Chase’s shoes are not able to be saved as hand-me-downs for Ryder because they wear out from so much use. I was in the market for new sandals for Ryder that he could easily slip on and when I found these slip-on slides that velcro on and off and have an ankle strap to keep them in place, I was sold. Ryder loves them, easily puts them on himself and can even run in them (important for a 3-year-old)!
Find #3: Banana-Print Swim Trunks. Another big-time Amazon win was these maamgic swim trunks. I am forever on the lookout for swim trunks for the boys that hit above the knee and don’t look like little capris and these are a slam dunk!
A while back I blogged about my desire to find what, in my opinion, would be a perfect travel coffee mug. (My criteria: 1. Ceramic lined 2. Has a non-breakable exterior 3. Has a handle 4. Fits in a cup holder 5. Is ideally 16+ ounces.) This coffee mug is apparently a unicorn and doesn’t exist but a few of you recommended this Ello ceramic travel mug to me because it checked a lot of my boxes. I liked it enough to keep it and find myself reaching for it over and over again when I want to head out the door with a latte in hand. I am still determined to find the perfect mug but this one is pretty good in the meantime.
This was a past Things I’m Loving Friday mention and it continues to be a go-to protein powder for me. I love that it tastes like chocolate milk and it works well in all of my rich, chocolaty smoothies. It’s also a great dairy-free protein powder option with a different flavor profile than most other dairy-free protein powders out there since they’re often made with pea protein and Active Stacks is made with grass-fed beef bone broth.

Swimsuits: High Waisted Bikini + Tie-Front Cut-Out One-Piece Swimsuit
When I say I’ve ordered at least 10 swimsuits from Amazon, I mean it but within my big haul of swimsuits, I only found two winners, a high-waisted bikini and a tie-front cut-out one-piece swimsuit.
The bikini is available in a bunch of colors and patterns but the bold stripes immediately jumped out at me and I knew I could pair the top with solid black bottoms I already had at home (shown above in the below pic) in addition to the high-waist bottoms (above)!
This was my first dip into the high-waisted bikini pool and I am loving it! The top offers a decent amount of coverage and while the bottoms are a bit cheekier than I’ve worn in the past, my buttcheeks aren’t completely hanging out and I feel like the little bit of additional skin is balanced by a sportier top and fuller-coverage waistline. (In terms of sizing, I am wearing a large in the bikini I liked the fit of the medium top better but the large bottoms offered a little more coverage so I settled on the large.)
As for the cut-out one piece, I love the pastel color tie-dye print and the quality of this suit is fantastic for such a low pricepoint ($25).
The cups are lined (and removable) and the cut is very flattering on a smaller bust. It’s comfortable and I love that it’s different than anything else I own.

Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant
This book was recommended to me by so many of you after Sadie passed. I immediately ordered it and the boys absolutely loved this book. It really helped us to be able to smile and laugh and think about all of the fun things Sadie is doing up in heaven. The book was also a great conversation starter and approached losing a dog in a way that was sweet and not at all scary (though it definitely made me cry the first time we read it). The book has also helped both boys with the concept of Sadie not being in our house anymore but still being someplace wonderful until we get to see her again.
This detergent has a story behind it. During a trip to Ireland back in 2013, Ryan helped a man move his car when it was stuck in mud and ended up covered in dirt. The hotel where we were staying graciously laundered his entire outfit upon our arrival because he was such a mess and when they returned his clothes he could not stop raving about the scent of their detergent. Fast forward several years and Ryan smelled the detergent again! One of his coworkers walked by smelling like the detergent but Ryan felt awkward asking him about it until he learned that his coworker was leaving the company. Ryan figured he should ask or the scent would always be a mystery. The man told Ryan it was Tyler Diva Glamorous Wash Laundry Detergent and Ryan immediately ordered it off Amazon. You guys, this stuff smells incredible. It’s insanely expensive so we don’t use it every single time and when we do, we’ll just add a small splash on top of our Branch Basics detergent and that’s more than enough to permeate our clothes and give them that unbelievable scent. (And this is coming from someone who is incredibly scent sensitive right now!) One container lasts us a LONG time (months and months and months) because we use so little in our loads but it’s still enough to give them that fantastic smell. When I tell you that people literally stop us on the street or in stores to ask us about this detergent I mean it! It’s a total splurge but one of those purchases we make every now and again because it is just so darn delightful.

Ryder’s Birthday Supplies
Ryder’s beach-themed birthday party was so much fun but one of the best parts about the party from the party planner’s perspective was how easy it was to throw together. I ordered almost everything we used in terms of decorations from Amazon for his beach-themed party and was happy with all of my selections, especially the semi-ridiculous blow-up palm tree drink pool, the beachy cupcake toppers and the summery surfboard “Happy Birthday” cake topper. Also, this inflatable boat we gave Ryder for his birthday was a HUGE hit with Ryder as well as all of the kids at his birthday party!
Question of the Day
Any awesome Amazon finds to share? Please let us know so we can check them out, too!

Our local Hallmark store sells Tyler candles and detergent. We buy a small bottle and add it to a large dispenser of All Free & Clear and use that for our linens. I also like their car air fresheners!

Wow ,,,,,, great idea Alaina!

Hi Julie! I’ve been reading your blog for over a decade regularly, and rarely comment but always am sending big love to you and your family, and am sorry for the loss of your sweet Sadie. I appreciate you getting more vocal and active in terms of advocating for black voices and justice. With this in mind, I wonder if you would reconsider your advocacy of Amazon. I 100% understand the wonderful convenience and ease they offer; it is such a hard thing to let go of, especially as such a busy mama. But Amazon is a truly terrible corporation in every way. Here are just a few examples:
They fight against unions (which hugely benefit workers, particularly workers of color)
https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/24/tech/amazon-teamsters-union-resolution/index.html
They don’t pay taxes:

They donate funds to those who fight against queer rights

They abuse their workers:

I am truly not at all telling you where to shop or what to do with your life or blog – I am a busy mama and employee too and I get it. But I would ask you to reconsider promoting a corporation that so goes against the values of equity and kindness I’ve seen you to espouse over the past decade. All good things, Kat

Hi Julie ,,,,, 👋
What exactly is/are the aromas of this laundry product?
Can’t even imagine!
Possibly lavender or musk.
Or a combo of all sorts of flowers 💐
You sure made me very interested to buy this product.
I will try it!
Thanks 😊

Love Diva scent…fruits, flowers, chocolate, and amber according to Amazon description. Been using it for years. Mainly with my bed sheets. It is sold in several local boutiques, home/gift stores near me, but I agree it is pricey.
Julie says
Isn’t it so good!?! It’s so pricey but thankfully seems to last us a looong time the way we use it (a splash here and there) — love it so much!
Cheryl says
What size one piece suit did you get?
Julie says
Medium! Ordered both a medium and a large but kept the medium because I liked the way it fit across my bust/waist. I slightly preferred the large on my butt but not enough to keep that one over the medium.
Alison says
What’s going on that’s making you scent-sensitive??
Julie says
Hi! I talked about it in a previous post but I noticed myself becoming more sensitive to scents when I was pregnant years ago and it never went away. I have a hard time smelling strong scents from perfume, cologne, etc. now.
Shannon says
Loved this post! Thanks Julie:)

Love your bathing suit cover ups! I wear the few rompers that I have all the time, so I just ordered the Amazon one you shared to try out 🙂
Valerie says
Great picks. I’m still loving your face wash you recommend years ago.

I am in love with this detergent! I bought a small bottle on Amazon and just tried it for the first time! I used a non-scented detergent and added a little of this, like you mentioned, and it is so wonderful! I can’t get over the smell – well worth the money. I have stuff air drying and my whole apartment smells lovely. Thank you for the rec!
