I set up shop at Dunkin’ Donuts this afternoon.
I took my car in to get new tires and walked across the street to study at Dunkin’ Donuts while the new tires were put on my car.
I’ve needed new tires for a while now, but a serious scrape that nearly punctured my front right tire when I parked on too close to the curb last week motivated me to finally buy new ones.
After buying a latte as my toll for using the free internet at Dunkin’ Donuts, I opened my NASM textbook and got to work.
Today I had the pleasure of sitting near two women who were clearly discussing some kind of a pyramid scheme for the entire two plus hours I was there. (I honestly tried not to listen in, but they picked the table right next to me and were very loud. Plus, they had all sorts of fancy jewels displayed on their table. I had to look.)
I feel like I’ve heard an inordinate amount of pyramid scheme-esque business pitches while working at local coffee shops. Today the woman being pitched to hopped on board once she heard that she could make more than $15,000 a month. She even got a brand new bracelet out of the deal. Score!
Yesterday, on our evening walk with Sadie, I started telling Ryan about some unusual experiences I had while studying at the library yesterday. He assured me they were all very strange, so I obviously need to share them with you today. When I study, I am apparently a magnet for randomness.
The three most amusing people at the library yesterday included:
- A super sweaty guy that showed up in a gray t-shirt absolutely soaked in sweat. He dropped his bag on the chair across from me, lifted up his shirt, put on deodorant and plopped down at my table. Maybe he saw my personal training textbook and figured sweat and I get along?
- After the sweaty guy left, another man joined me. He cranked up his MP3 player, took the ear buds out of his ears and listened to extremely explicit rap aloud at our table. Now, I don’t mind a little cursing in my music, but playing music out loud at the library made me want to channel Lori Beth Denburg from All That and scream, “QUIET! THIS IS A LIBRARY!”
- A young nine(ish) year old boy sitting at the computer behind me let one rip. Loudly. No explanation necessary.
Needless to say, today’s study session at Dunkin’ Donuts wasn’t quite as amusing.
Lunch
Once my car was ready and I packed everything up and drove home, I fixed myself lunch.
I made a tuna salad wrap that I ate with a serving of glazed pecans.
Great lunch!
I’m hoping the rest of the day flies by because I have a fun evening planned with two of my girlfriends. Legally Blonde: The Musical is playing at our local community theater and we can’t wait to see Elle Woods sing her face off!
Rachel says
ahhh! I saw Legally Blonde the Musical! you’ll love it! It’s so cute!!! 🙂
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Legally Blonde the Musical is awesome!!! I saw it on Broadway when it first came out. The songs are super catchy. I always find myself randomly playing the soundtrack in my car when I need a pick me up 🙂
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Haha All That! That feels like eons ago! I’ve been wanting to see Legally Blonde the Musical – hope you enjoy it!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
LOL about your study buddies! I saw Legally Blonde at a theater with my mum a couple of months ago and it was fabulous! The girl that played Elle was very Reese-like and did a great job!
Kristy Doyle says
I work at a library. Trust me, what you experienced isn’t unusual! The other day, one of my coworkers noticed a guy come in to use our computers, and he took out a plethora of stuffed animals and lined them up at the desk where he was sitting before he got to work.
peanutbutterfingers says
oh wooow.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
LOL your stories from the library literally made me laugh out loud. What a day! At least you got some good laughs. 😉
Kaitlyn @ Chocolate Running Shoes says
Ahhhh I’ve wanted to see Legally Blonde: The Musical for such a long time! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
Beks says
I have a friend who sells Premier Jewelry. She’s pretty good about not asking me if I want to join her business, but I’m willing to buy stuff from her (I’ve got a great jewelry set I adore that I got from her), but the $15,000/month thing happens VERY rarely. And it’s usually the die-hards that won’t leave their friends alone who get there. Not for me.
“Legally Blonde” is so fun! I saw it on MTV a few years back, and got the soundtrack. For Christmas this past year, my cousins got me the songbook, which I have yet to put to good use, but I have it! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
exactly. i’m sure it’s totally possible, just not very probable. 🙂
Emily says
I LOL’d at the third amusing person… too funny!
I work in health insurance, and one day, we had a client walk in to speak about plan options. The receptionist let the representative know that she had a walk- in client and as she was on her way to get him, the receptionist noticed the man’s member (for lack of a better word) just sitting there, out of his pants. Turns out he was a flasher and had been showing himself all over town. The authorities were called and he was arrested on the spot. WHO DOES THAT?!!
Sarah says
Legally Blonde: The Musical is by far my favorite musical EVER! I saw it on Broadway with Laura Bell Bundy and fell in love! I listen to the soundtrack all the time. So jealous!!
Oh my god, Oh my god you guys!!!
Lisa @ Jogging on Coffee says
Legally Blonde the musical is awesome! Have fun 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Haha it’s so hard to focus when you’ve got people having an interesting conversation right next to you!
Alexa says
Ive been hearing about pyramid schemes a lot lately too! If i have one more AMWAY person come up to me im gonna scream.
Ruthie says
That’s funny you mentioned pyramid schemes. The cover story this month in Harper’s was titled “The Pink Pyramid Scheme” all about Mary Kay cosmetics. Really interesting article. http://harpers.org/archive/2012/08/0084009
Enjoy the musical! Such a great show!!
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I loved watching All That! Funny! That’s funny that all that would happen at the library in a matters of hours. I wonder what will happen next time you go…
I saw Legally Blond the Musical and I loved it! Hope you have a great time!

My childhood dream was to be a cast member on All That. True story. Such a quality show! 😉
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says

Megan @ The I Do Diaries says
I got so excited seeing that picture from the All That-I had totally forgotten about that show! Ah, classic Nick-at-Night 🙂
T. says
Hi, how big are those wraps? The wraps I buy are about 56 grams weight per wrap (24 grams of carbs per wrap). I see a lot of people eat really tiny wraps…maybe I found no willpower? 🙂
Or I just really like carbs !
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
Oh my goodness- love that All That reference! Nickelodeon used to have some classics.. I still miss Salute Your Shorts.
PS. I think that is so random/hilarious that the thing you hear most frequently at coffee shops in your town is pyramid schemes haha.
mary @ minutespermile says
dunkin donuts = best coffee ever.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
Haven’t seen Legally Blonde the musical yet – it sounds so fun! I’m a huge musical person; pretty sure I could sing along to every song in Rent.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Your library stories took me back to my college days in the library… There was so much people watching to be done it was difficult to study!
Rebecca says
Enjoy the musical! Also, just a heads up, the songs from it will be stuck in your head for the next week! 🙂
Kristin says
I’d love to try the original flavor on a wrap sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
DONNA says
i WOULD PUT IT ON A BAGEL OR MAKE A STIRFRY WITH IT.
Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom says
I couldn’t help but get a laugh at all the characters that you ran into at the library yesterday. You are much better than me, I probably would have sighed loudly and moved to another table. Not that they would have cared, lol!!
Robyn says
Looks like it would taste great on whole grain crackers!
Missy says
I would love to try this cheese with scrambled eggs or with celery sticks. I love portion-control packaging. It can be expensive but worth it in the long run.
RunEatRepeat says
One of my close friends works at a library and tells me stories about weirdos all the time. I love it.
Bethany @ The OC Fit Girl says
Those ARE the most random stories! I wish we had a Dunkin Donuts in Cali, I have heard that it is amazing…the best coffee!! Is this true?
Suzy says
I am sitting at home with my dogs and I burst out laughing at your library stories…the pups are trying to figure out what the joke is (it was doggie nap time). I am trying to figure out which one is the funniest and I think it is deodorant dude…or as you call him “sweaty guy”…I thought I was one of the few who attracted some odd companionship. Glad I’m not alone!
kaceyt says
That’s so funny about your study stories…I wonder what other randomness you’ll meet as you continue to study:) The cheese looks like it would be perfect in a veggie wrap. I’m especially loving the herby variety!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I saw that Musical in NYC on Broadway–such a fun one!
Those are really random stories! Quite hilarious, actually 😉
Maribeth @ LOVemyHANDLES says
I always spread all my books across an entire table and put a bag across. Don’t make eye contact. Always helps in avoiding weirdos, but for the nice older people I always offer.
Lisa says
Those glazed pecans look amazing. Where are they from? I went to a Lia Sophia jewelry event once. Nice stuff, but you only make money if people show up and buy. My neighbor got into selling Avon a year ago and tried to persuade me to buy some. I have ultra sensitive skin and won’t use their products.
Caro says
I used to work in a library, and the oddest thing I remember is that once some guy threw his books at me when I told him they were overdue and he had to pay the fine! Luckily they weren’t hardback – that would’ve hurt!
hellonheelshon says
HAHA. You’re reference to “All That” just made me literally LOL! 🙂
Katie says
Hmmmmm….in a wrap I think! Delicious!
Lauren says
This is a really funny post. I remember that skit from All That (isn’t that the name of the show???). And didn’t she say “Libary” like Li-berry, not library? That’s how I remember it. LOL funny stuff.
Heather@Just a Colorado Gal says
I saw that musical here in Denver and thought it was going to be stupid, but it was actually pretty cute!
MegS says
Eh! That tire looks pretty bad! I am going to have to get new tires soon! I’ve actually attended one of those pyramid scheme meetings (my friend was interested and I didn’t know exactly what it was she was taking me to)… its so unrealistic. :-/
haha I didn’t sign up 😉
Marlene says
I think I would try the Italian Herb with cucumber and tomato for a yummy lunch.
Liz @ Iheartvegetables says
Yummm those pecans sound amazing!
I’ve ran into one too many curbs haha. But I’ve only had a flat tire twice in my life. Neither of which were my fault! 🙂
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
Oh, the public library can be a great place to people watch!
Ashleigh says
OMG I love that you made and All That reference!! I loved that show!! And I totally remember that skit- classic!!
