My love for dippy eggs was only further solidified after today’s lunch!
I placed two dippy eggs on top of a bowl full of steamed spinach and roasted Brussels sprouts drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with garlic salt.
I loved the way the two runny yolks coated the veggies, giving them a fantastic flavor and a punch of protein.
On the side I ate a cup of Greek yogurt topped with honey and about a third of a bag of popcorn because I wanted something salty once I finished off my yogurt.
I actually snacked on the popcorn at my desk while working and now I think I need to clean my keyboard. Not the brightest move.
The Hunger Games Movie
Back in February last year, I read The Hunger Games trilogy.
The Hunger Games was recommended to me by my former coworker and book blogger, Lisa. Before looking into it, I initially thought The Hunger Games was some kind of a non-fiction book about eating based on the title alone. (Remember this was February last year, before all the hoopla started!)
I was completely hooked from the beginning and am anxiously awaiting the debut of the movie on Friday!
Today a bunch of movie reviews were published in magazines and newspapers after critics had the chance to view the movie early and, as someone who usually doesn’t pay much attention to movie reviews, I found myself reading quite a few this afternoon!
Many of the articles believe The Hunger Games movie stays true to the book. Quite a few also said that the movie far upstages Twilight. I read all of the Twilight books and am not exactly a fan of Bella, so I’m rooting for Katniss to reign supreme!
I don’t usually get super excited for movies but The Hunger Games movie is definitely an exception. Ryan and I read The Hunger Games together, so I think we’re both pumping each other up about the movie which is getting me even more amped.
I know we’re not alone out there and that many of you are fans of the books, so today’s questions are centered around The Hunger Games…
Questions of the Afternoon: Hunger Games Edition
- Are you pumped to see The Hunger Games movie this weekend?
- Do the previews make you think the movie has the potential to do the book justice?
- Team Peeta or Team Gale?
Peeta all the way.

I’m so out of the Hunger Games loop! I didn’t get a chance to read the books. I’ve been wanting to so bad. I’m wondering if I would still understand the movie if I didn’t read the book. Either way, I’d like to see it and read the book 🙂
Kate @ The Little Spoon Blog says
If you go to see it without reading the books let me know how it is!! I think it would be great without reading the books, I just wonder if it will be easy to follow.
Kim Perry says
I recommend reading the book! I don’t classify myself as someone who reads very often but I read this book in 3 DAYS! Very entertaining & exciting book!
Helen says
I’m SO excited for the movie to come out! Though, like with Harry Potter, I’m a little nervous about how much they’ll stay true to the book and what they’ll end up changing. The books were so fantastic!! And definitely Peeta. Gale was cool and all, but come on…..
Danica @ GirlsThatRun says
I can’t wait! My boyfriend and I are seeing it on Friday after work with another couple and my mom. How cute is that? She totally got hooked on the books after I wouldn’t stop raving about them.
Nicole says
I AM SO EXCITED!!! My boyfriend & I talk about it everyday I think haha I don’t usually await movies with such excitement either but I feel like this is going to really bring the book to life. I already love who they chose for the characters from the previews….& Team Peeta 🙂
Katie says
I am so so excited for Hunger Games. Read a review in EW that said Peeta was a little disappointing as a character. I will be bummed if that’s the case because I am 100% Team Peeta!
Lindsey says
So excited, we already have tickets for Saturday!
I think the trailers look awesome. I only read the first and second book so far and couldn’t get into the third but I am planning on going back to it.
Alyssa @ fit and fun in third says
I really need to get on the Hunger Games bandwagon…. I’ve heard so much about it, but I just haven’t caved and read the books yet! Ill have to rectify that ASAP.
Kate @ The Little Spoon Blog says
You should see if they have them at your local library or borrow them from a friend! Definitely recommend!!!
Amanda says
I have my tickets already for Thursday night/Friday morning at 12:07 am! My boyfriend even asked, “Is this a girls night or do I get to come?” 🙂
I really hope the movie is as awesome as the trailers are making it out to be! And totally TEAM PEETA!
Erin says
I am soo excited!! I just bought tickets for an IMAX showing on Saturday. I tend to be a little wary of movie adaptations, but I am hopeful about this one. At least the previews look awesome 🙂
HRCK the Herald says
I read all three books in about 2 weeks last month. I already have my ticket for a movie showing this weekend and cannot WAIT.
And just like Katniss, I’m kind of conflicted re: Peeta and Gale. I thought it was a bit of a cop-out that she never had to make an active decision between them.
Kate @ The Little Spoon Blog says
I totally agree! Seems like te decision was made for her at the end of the third. But as I’m writing this… I’m thinking that maybe Gale made the final decision for her..
Parita @ myinnershakti says
SO EXCITED! Although I’m going to have to wait until the first weekend in April to go see it with my fiance. We both promised that we’d wait until we could see it together.
A little skeptical about the movie holding up to the book but anything is possible!
And I am Team Peeta all the way!
Lisa @Read.Breathe.Relax. says
I am BEYOND jealous! Congrats! haha
Laura says
I write for my school’s newspaper and got to go to a screening of the Hunger Games 3 weeks ago!!!!! IT. WAS. AMAZING. I am a HUGE fan of the books, and honestly was so impressed from start to finish. My review will be published tomorrow! GO SEE IT! I also got to go to the press junket for it and interview all the stars. literally best day of my life 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
no way! that is so cool!
Lisa @Read.Breathe.Relax. says
Oops, I replied to the wrong comment…
I meant to say what I said (above) here…yeah, awkwardly leaving now… 😉
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
I can’t wait for the Hunger Games, I bought tickets for the Midnight showing on Thursday night and I never stay up that late during the week! I got my best friend and boyfriend to read it and they are coming with me. I just got my mom to read it and she is hooked! I am a team Peeta all the way, and I can’t wait to see Stanley Tucci I love him soo much and heard he absolutely rocks in the movie!
Nicole says
Cant wait for the movie! Team Peeta but I think I may like Gale a little better in the movie (have you seen the previews) 😉 I was really disapointed about the twilight movies so I hope these stay true to the books and the characters all work well together.
Heather says
I can’t wait! The previews look fantastic. As a non fan of Bella as well I can’t wait for a kick ass female character. I wish I was team peeta but I have to be team gale. I was rooting for them the entire series!
Angeline says
I can’t wait! But I will have to as my date for the movie will not be home for another week. Next weekend it is!
Team Peeta all the way!
Nescett @ bananaoats says
Funny, I’m super excited too. I’ve had it on my calendar for months. I feel like such a nerd. 🙂
Linda says
Team Peeta! I’m hoping to go on Saturday to see the movie.
Kelly says
Oh no!!! I am definitely Team Gale!
Sarah Elizabeth says
I’m so excited! I first heard about the Hunger Games through your blog and am now hearing about the kickass female role and how the movie is going to be really big. Now I want to read the book! As for the Twilight comparison… well… I am 100% sure it will be leaps and bounds better. http://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/007/975/still-a-better-love-story-than-twilight-cells.jpeg
Jane {In the Pink and Green} says
My hubby and I both read the Hunger Games series as well and we can’t wait for the movie! It looks like it’s going to be amazing! And based on the actors they picked to play the characters I’d have to say Team Gale…definitely 🙂
Meg says
Totally pumped too! I read the Hunger Games about a year and a half ago before the 3rd one had even been published. I even talked my husband into listening to the audio version. I’m all about team Gale!
Kate @ The Little Spoon Blog says
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE!!!
I’d say that is a pretty accurate statement to describe my excitement. Of I could post a picture of me jumping up and down on the comments part, I totally would.
I’ve heard great things about the movie. I also read that there are a few things they left out or changed for times sake (is that the right way to say that?!) I’m guessing that going in with the knowledge that some characters are going to be missing or scenes edited will be beneficial. That way I’m not silently cursing about it during the movie.
What I want to know is… Will this movie be the first of three or will all three books be crunched into one movie? I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to cram three books into two hours. But then again, who knows!
I’m not sure what team I am on… I flopped back and forth while I e’s reading the books. I supposed based on my final reaction to the ending of the last book I should choose team gale. My heart went out to gale.
If you go see the movie I would love to hear your thoughts on it! I’m hoping to get there either this weekend or next week!
Erin says
I am embarrisingly excited about the Hunger Games movie! I seriously cannot wait and am currently debating the best time to go see it. Friday night I’m sure the theater will be packed, I don’t want to deal with all of the kids seeing it Saturday (I want to be able to focus) so I’m thinking Saturday night. (I’m a freak, it’s fine).
I am currently reading Catching Fire and am having such a hard time deciding if I’m Team Peeta or Team Gale, right now I’m leaning towards Peeta.
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Team Peeta! I doubt the movie will be as good as the book, just because movies rarely are, but I’m almost sure it will be better than the twilight movie! Better actors in the Hunger Games movie too. I’m excited but I haven’t bought a ticket yet or anything. I probably should get on that!
erica says
i’m so excited for the hunger games! although, i’ll wait a week or two for the crowds to die down before i go see it.
totally team peeta. at least the character in the book…i’m not a huge fan of the actor though….so we shall see!
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
Yout lunch looks so yummy! Runny eggs are amazing! I also can’t wait to see the Hunger Games even though I did not read the book! I’m kind of glad though because usually the book is way better tha. The movie and I am constantly left disappointed when I leave the theater.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Mmm your dippy eggs look delicious… I know what I’m having for dinner! I haven’t read the Hunger Games yet (I know, and I promise I don’t actually live under a rock) but I’ve heard such great things so I do want to see the movie! I’m going to Australia in April so am planning to get my hands on the first book and read it on the plane. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear what you think of the movie when it comes out!
Claire says
I JUST got on the Hunger Games bandwagon and am obsessed! I couldn’t put the books down and have been telling everyone I know about them. I’ve kind of started to wonder whether people will dress up for the movie like they do for Harry Potter…maybe some Katniss braids? Guess we’ll see after this weekend! 🙂
PS-TOTALLY team Peeta, but Gale is gorgeous
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Totally team Peeta!!!! I am so excited for the movie! And Now I want some popcorn, that looks so good!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I can’t wait to see it either – I hated the Twilight books and Bella’s character especially! 🙂
Caitlin @ Chasing a Mile says
I know I am late to the party, but I just started reading The Hunger Games last night!
Sarah says
Team Peeta!!
and yes I am super excited to see the movie this weekend with my family!!!
Laurie says
SO EXCITED! And I’m even more excited that I got the bf to read all the books so he is super pumped too. I am definitely Team Gale. I don’t think he was given a fair chance because he never got to prove what he would do to save her in the arena, but he risked his life ot save her family. Totally Gale!
Kate @ The Little Spoon Blog says
Is anyone else team gale?!
Juju@getfitwithjuju says
I totally want to try those dippy eggs with the broc and brussel sprouts! They look so yummy =]
I got into the hunger games last year, after your post about it! I remember you were so obessed with it, and I knew that the book must be great!
I don’t think I will see the movie this weekend, being that it’s going to be crazy packed, but will go watch it in week 2 or 3. The previews have got me going crazy!! I am Team Peeta, but have a crush on Gale! ( especially since LIAM is playing GALE!!) what a freaking hottie!! =] xoxo
Sarah says
Hey Julie!
I’ve been trying a bunch of your recipes lately and have been loving them! I’ll have to give your lunch a try one of these days 🙂
Do you have any recipes for side dishes? Or ideas of side dishes to bring to parties? With this great weather comes all the parties- and I’m looking for new ideas! 🙂
Thanks! 🙂

Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I’m definitely excited to go see it. I’ll probably wait until next week though, when some of the hoop-la has died down. I don’t want to battle a bunch of teenagers for a seat! 🙂
And when reading the books, I was totally Team Peeta. But I’m not sure how I’m going to feel watching the movies b/c the actor playing Peeta isn’t how I pictured him to be haha! 😉
Taylor @ Nuts for Apples says
Dippy eggs are so good, I’ll have to try them over veggies! I just recently bought The Hunger Games. I need to read it & then I’ll have to go see the movie!
natalie @ southern fit foodie says
I am SUPER excited to see the movie!!! I was constantly torn in the book between Team Peeta and Team Gale, and seeing the previews didn’t help at all. I feel like they cast them in their opposite roles – Peeta looks like what I imagined for Gale, and vice versa.
Britt says
My favorite response to the Team Peeta v. Team Gale question is…Team Katniss. I love the strong female lead in this series!
I’m almost through the second book (no need to mention I started it Sunday afternoon), and cannot wait for the movie!
Serena says
If you like drippy eggs try them on rice with soy sauce. I’ve been eating eggs with rice since I lived in Hawaii and I love the combo, but its best with really runny eggs.
I can’t wait for hunger games. TEAM GALE!!!
Katie says
SO EXCITED!!! I’ve got my tickets and I just can’t wait. Definitely team Peeta! 🙂
Heather@Just a Colorado Gal says
Like everyone else, I’m obsessed with the books BUT I’m waiting till next weekend to see the movie. Don’t want to calm any pre-teen fighting over Peeta in the theater 🙂
kyla says
I am seeing the midnight premiere this Thursday!!!! Team Peeta only because Gale was an underdeveloped character and we never fully understood him or his motives.
Allison says
i haven’t read the books at all, but my bf’s sister was hooked on them, which kind of intrigued me, I want to read the books and i am actually wanting to go see the movie too! although I know nothing about whats going on haha
Maureen says
I JUST finished Mockingjay this morning!! GREAT SERIES! From what I have read, it sounds like the movie will do the book justice….much more than Twilight did.
Team Peeta all the way! 🙂
Chelsea C. says
I also read the books last spring and was so surprised when they became so main stream! I am also not a fan of Bella and not really into Twilight either, although I’ve read the books and seen the movies (the movies really disappoint me). I can’t wait to go see HG though!! Team Peeta!!
Chelsea (seven twenty-one) says
Peeta!!! I adore Peeta and I have midnight tickets to the premiere! So pumped
🙂
