Seriously.
They add just the right amount of crunch and texture to my yogurt bowls and I love knowing that I’m sneaking some quality Omega 3s into my diet. Win, win. (Stay tuned for an awesome giveaway that may or may not include these babies this afternoon!)
Included in this morning’s breakfast bowl:
- 1 c. 2% Chobani Greek yogurt
- 1 sliced Gala apple
- Chia seeds
- Honey
Since I was apparently feelin’ apple-happy this morning, I also ate a bag of Brothers-All-Natural apple crisps as I was preparing my snacks for the day.
If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, I guess after eating this breakfast I don’t have to visit my doctor for at least five years now. As someone who seriously hates needles, I think I would eat five (maybe 10) apples a day for the rest of my life if it meant never having to see the doctor again.
Workout
Today’s workout was the usual Wednesday routine. I took a BodyPump class and followed it up with 20 minutes on the elliptical. For some reason I walked to the gym feeling extra happy this morning. I think it was because I was wearing my Bride to Be sports bra. It just makes me smile… even though I’m now a Bride Who Was. Sad. I miss wedding planning!
After gettin’ sweaty, I met up with my friend Merri to take Sadie on a 2.5 mile walk.
Merri was in California last week for work and will be in New York this weekend, so I was happy to get some quality time with her before she jet sets around the country again! I also got to see her brand new bangs in person! She has movie star hair, so naturally they look great on her. I will be sure to post a picture of her new ‘do on the blog the next time we’re together and don’t look like death at 7 a.m. 🙂
Time for that work thang!
And Just for Fun…
- Pick one: The doctor or the dentist?
I’d pick my dentist 10 times over. Not only has he filled 5,000 of my cavities without once causing me pain, he’s a looker to boot! That’s probably why I still drive two hours to visit him in St. Pete even though I now live in Orlando (for the pain-free service, not the good looks, naturally 😉 ).
Elizabeth says
Totally dentist. I’m actually pretty friendly with my dentist and I’ve referred a bunch of friends who moved to NY to her. I also love that I still get a goody bag every time I visit the dentist. Doctors really need to institute that.
peanutbutterfingers says
totally agree. i used to get a cherry lollipop from my doctor in illinois (well, my pediatrician). now it’s nothin’! boo.
Anne @thefitbridesmaid says
Hmmm . . . I’d say doctor, even though we have to step on the scale at the doctor’s office. I’m just sick of having teeth issues.
Also, I’m afraid that I’ll miss wedding planning, too! We’re in the final 3 months. What will I do when it’s over?!?!
peanutbutterfingers says
you’ll cry. and then cling on to every friend’s wedding like it’s your own.
peanutbutterfingers says
oh & yaaaaay for your ALMOST wedding day!!! so exciting!
Anne @thefitbridesmaid says
HA!!
Thanks, I’m excited! And sad! And excited! And stressed! And excited! And overwhelmed . . . yeah, you get the point.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I’d pick dentist too! My dentist’s office calls itself a ‘dental spa’, and they have a paraffin wax hand treatment that you can do while you sit in the chair and watch whatever you want/listen to whatever music you want. Ooh and they have a fresh orange juicer… it’s lovely! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
what!?!?!?! okay, my dentist is a hottie and all, but i want the hand wax!
Jess says
I loooove the dentist–there’s nothing like that nice clean teeth feeing 🙂
On a more random note, when did you guys start running with Sadie? Rush has so much energy and I feel like walks just aren’t going to cut it…too bad we live in NY, otherwise I would have Sadie come chase him around and tire him out 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
i honestly wish i could remember! i feel like she was around 10 months to a year before we really ran w/ her. i know i definitely didn’t run her more than 3 mi. before she was a year… i think i read something about it negatively affecting their joints if you run them too soon & since vizslas are prone to hip dysplasia, i wanted to be careful of that. and i totally feel ya on the energy level. one person once told me that vizslas calm down when they’re 10. 😉
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I’ve been wanting to run with Chloe so bad… but I was told to wait until she’s a year old to prevent any future hip and joint problems. 🙂 hope that helps!
Jess says
Thanks for the info! Hopefully it’ll start warming up around here so we can make going to the dog park a habit 🙂 Running around with all his friends tires him out, but I feel so bad taking him out in the snow lol.
Allison@ Happy Tales says
I heard to wait until 1 year, also… but I’ve visited with the vet about 3 times since getting Happy in Oct… and he says that with her energy level, I *need* to be running her! He said that 30 mins is the minimum she should be exercised… that 30 mins is more of a warmup and then I should work her! She is terrier/border collie and I’d guess made out of sugar with how much energy she has… She’s 8 months now and we’ve been running more recently together. She LOVES it!!!
Jess says
oops *feeling 🙂 cut me some slack, didn’t finish my morning coffe yet
Shelby says
The Doctor. The only thing I don’t like about my doctor is having to wait forever. I have a strange fascination with medical things. Needles don’t bother me. I Like to watch. I gave blood on Monday and love to do it on a regular basis. I HATE the dentist.
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Doctor!!! You know my despise of the dentist.
Meg says
I LOVE THE DENTIST 😀
Amy B says
Haha, well maybe you just need to find a hot doctor then? Good looks, er…i mean good health, should be a priority!
Gretchen @ Honey, I Shrunk the Gretchen! says
I hate going to the dentist! I think I have genetically bad enamel, because I seriously have had fillings in every single one of my teeth. And laying in a chair with your mouth wide open while the dentist asks you things like “So how’s it going?” and all you can do is mumble “ghaaarrrrgghllooooogggeeee” is not my idea of a good time, hahahah.
Plus, I’m actually kind of excited to go to the doctor the next time I have a check-up (weird? yes.) because I want to get weighed (weirder? definitely.) and show him how much weight i’ve lost since the last time i was there! Hahahahahaha.
peanutbutterfingers says
i need fillings ALL THE TIME. i once asked my dentist if he could just fill all my teeth at once as a “precaution.” apparently they just don’t do that.
Amber K says
lol, I thought about that too! Dang me, I had to inherit my family’s enamel issues.
LittleMissFitness says
Dentist! Usually when I go to the doctor I’m sick! :/
kristy @ kristyruns says
Doctor!!! All the scraping noises at the dentist freak me out!!
Jessica says
I always have the hardest time picking out good apples. One week my gala apples were perfectly crisp and sweet and the next week, they were kind of mealy. Ick.
Lisa @ I'm an Okie says
Doctor–easy easy!
and I still haven’t tried Chia seeds. I’m so behind.
mkr says
Awww what a great Sadie picture!
vanessa says
Strangely enough I looove getting my teeth cleaned so I almost say dentist but the last time I went in for a check up and had to have an emergency crown put in 🙁 not fun. So I say doctor because mine is awesome.
briana says
definately dentist, because I hate being sick and thats the only time I go to the doctor! Wedding planning is stressing me out I have 8 months left and need help! 🙂
Courtney says
DOCTOR!! I can’t stand dentist visits because of the scraping noises or the feeling of the scraping of the metal tools on your teeth! They’re worse than fingernails going down a chalkboard! I love doctor visits though! My doctor is so nice (not bad looking either) and really cares about his patients. The visits are so laidback and almost relaxing. 🙂
Carrie says
I SURE eat enough apples to keep the doctor away! i would SO choose the dentist!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I absolutely haaate the dentist. 🙁 I think I’d rather hit the docta’s office… no, I KNOW I’d rather go to the doctor’s.
probably because I get allergy shots every other week, so nothing really phases me in there.
but someone poking around my mouth and drilling and sticking and gaaaack, I haate it. and my jaw always hurts after from being propped open for too long. 🙁
I’m told its because I have a baby mouth. oopsies!
P.S. fuuuunny you should mention chia seeds.. I JUST posted today about a fantastic new peanut butter find with chia seeds IN IT! have you tried?!
….so amazing.
Hope says
I would most definiteyl rather go to the doctor. I hate the dentist! I have been avoiding the dentist because I’m afraid I have cavities. 🙁 Unfortunately, I have to go next month. I am so scared!! 🙁
Grace @ YourDailyGrace says
I’d take the dentist over the doctor just for the fact that I hate when they prick my finger and you probably have less of a chance for catching something when going to dentist. I need to go to both though=/ Haven’t been in a while, but the gyno counts as a doctor, right?
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
Definitely the doctor! The dentist terrifies me 🙂 I’m not even sure why since I’ve never really had a bad experience.
Jess (In My Healthy Opinion) says
Hmm… I think I’d choose the dentist! Although the doctor always gave out these amazing pretzels and sometimes candy. 🙂 Can I just say I am SO with you on missing the wedding planning! We got married in October and I feel like a part of me is missing! lol 🙂
Courtney says
Julie I am amazed by how you manage to do so much everyday before work! Hour long class, 20 min elliptical, hour long walk, preparing your food, updating your blog, and then not to mention getting ready and looking perfect… all before work!! How do you do it… Superwoman or what?
Shanna, like Banana says
GAH! Neither! Hate Dr and Dentist, but I suppose I’d choose the dentist slightly above dr. Just thinking about it makes me shudder.
Stephanie says
Can I go with neither? lol
The lights are SOOOO bright at the dentist and doctors make me hop on a scale. hehe
Ashley P. @ The Vegetable Life says
OMG that comis made my basically die laughing!
Anon says
I don’t like having teeth problems!! At all.. That being said – I’m more easy about the dentist..even after the drilling etc.
I don’t like being I’ll either..or being weighed.. Lol
& if my dentist was cute I wouldn’t go there ..i find it awkward to open my mouth like that hahah
Anon says
Being ill*. Damn *autoMISTAKE* !
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I honestly don’t mind either. My dad is a doc and has always been personal friends with all our specialists, so I guess the fact that I get special treatment in their offices makes it more bearable. That, plus hearing about all his gross surgeries has kind of desensitized me to what a “serious” operation is, haha.
Although, my dentist is reallyyyyyy large and when he looks into your mouth you can hear him huffing and puffing. Kinda awkward.
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I was just thinking about chia seeds this morning and how badly I want to try them! I almost always to forget to take my fish oil pill in the morning, but I’m sure I’d remember to sprinkle these fun little seeds on my breakfast!
Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl says
DOCTOR all the way – any kind! I give myself a migraine everytime I have to go to the dentist – even if it’s just for a cleaning…but I still dutifully go every 6 months. Just thinking of the dentist makes me cringe
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Hmmm it depends. The lady who cleans my teeth is REALLY rough so I leave the dentist in pain most of the time, :/ But I associate the doctor with sickness or injury, which is never good. :/
Jenny says
Definitely the dentist! Everyone seems to hate going to the dentist but I love it. Can’t beat that extra clean feeling when you leave…and I have to mention that my dentist is quite the looker as well 🙂
Jennie @ Designed to Be Fit says
My doctor because it’s free and the dentist isn’t! Air Force healthcare. 🙂
I just read about chia seeds in Born to Run but have seen them on the blog world for ages. I can’t wait to try them! I’ll have to keep an eye out for the giveaway. 🙂
Marlo says
I pick dentist.. My moms in the dental field so ive grown up around it.. Doctors scare me.. I have a HUGE fear of needles too.. Last time i tried to get a shot was a few years ago.. i actually yanked the needle out of my arm when she jabbed it in.. Even had to have my mommy come with me.. HAHAHAHA!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I eat an apple a day just for that reason too. 😉 I really dislike the doctor..not for the needles or whatever but because our medical center seems to have some really judgemental doctors. It’s not a pleasant experience talking to them.
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
That picture of the fat dog made me laugh out loud – at work 🙂 Where did you get your bride-to-be sports bra?! I want one immediately!!
Mel says
That dog picture had me laughing out loud!!
My stepdad is a doctor which is super convenient because I never really have to go into the office because he brings meds home and when I do, I don’t have to wait! The hours are just hard 🙁
My friend is also in dental school now and I told her I’d follow her around the country and shower her with gifts for free dental care! haha
Court says
You’re an apple girl, probably not as far as an addict like me but… just outta curiosity, what does your morning routine look like? Do you eat breakfast before or after your workout at the gym?
Jamily says
I would definitely pick my doctor! Even though I really like my dentist, I’m always just WAITING for them to cut my gums, I really hate that! It doesn’t happen every time but it’s happened enough that I’m on pins & needles just waiting for it!
Alexis says
That dentist is a hottie.
Oh and that dog picture killed me.
Karen says
A couple years ago, I’d say dentist, but after getting wisdom tooth surgery, I am scarred, and don’t go as often as I should!
P.S. Your comment on my blog pretty much made my morning! I am just starting out, so a little nervous. 🙂 You’re the first real blogger I’ve gotten support from so far (this is my first time commenting too). When I posted the shout out, I wondered if you and the other two girls would see it in your site stats, then thought ‘no, they get way too much traffic to notice!” haha so thanks for noticing! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, your blog looks great!!! seriously! i can’t wait to read more.
Jess says
I just got Chia seeds! (well salba) but i’m super excited to start incorporating them into my diet!!
Elizabeth@The Sweet Life says
Doctor, for sure. I can’t stand the sound of my teeth being cleaned!
KitKat @ Pursuit of Happiness says
Haha, everytime I pour chia into my oatmeal I sing that song to myself. I try not to picture sprouting grass for hair while eating though.
Doctor all the way! The one and only time I actually fainted was at the dentist’s office. I get the sweats every time I walk in there. I’m cringing just thinking about it.
Kacy says
Probably the doctor, but I only go when I am really sick.
Kathie says
Hands down I chose the doctor..i have such a bad phobia of dentists that they have to knock me out even to fill a cavity. im a hot mess when it comes to dentists.
Caitlin says
Love the shot of Sadie – great angle!
Someone told me that chia seeds have similar effects to a woman that too much soy does. Have you ever heard of that? It freaked me out so I haven’t eaten them in months. I had stopped drinking soy prior to hearing that and saw dramatic changes, so I didn’t want to risk any chance.
peanutbutterfingers says
no, i’ve never heard of that! 🙁
Kelly says
The dentist b/c that’s usually for a checkup and the doctor is typically when something is wrong or for my annual pap, which is just never pleasant, you know.
