Baby Names

August 25, 2011 by Julie 234 Comments

This morning I awoke craving eggs!

Since my taste buds typically desire something on the sweeter side in the morning, I was more than happy to prepare myself a savory breakfast for once.

IMG_5639-1

I made myself a wafflewich by toasting two whole wheat waffles and topping them with muenster cheese, raspberry jelly and scrambled eggs.

IMG_5638-1

A cup of strawberry Activia yogurt and two blueberry brown sugar Newtons fruit thins were also enjoyed.

Sadie was not impressed with my sharing skills this morning…

Better luck next time, kiddo. Smile

And speaking of kiddos…

Baby Names

Yesterday I tweeted this random thought…

pbfingers twitter

The tweets I received in response made me realize that this is a very common thing! What surprised me most was the amount of mothers or mothers-to-be who faced this same dilemma… and then gave birth to a baby of the opposite gender than the one for which they had plenty of names on tap!

Oddly enough, I have this totally weird feeling that Ryan and I will have a boy one day which seems to go along with this trend. (Rest assured that we will not be naming him Hawk.)

One of the baby girl names I absolutely loved for years was Reagan.

I had to let that one go when I married Ryan. Reagan Fagan just doesn’t work.

Ryan suggested keeping “Reagan” and adding “Megan,” so we’d have Reagan Megan Fagan.

Endearing, no?

Question of the Morning

  • Do you have a lot of baby names on tap for one specific gender or are you evenly split? Or do you not even think about these things at all?

I have a few baby names in mind. Girl names are a little easier for me, I have to admit. By the way, I just found out someone I know named their kid “Champ.” Serious. Guess who’s gonna have a complex! I think that might be worse than Hawk.

I had the same problem when I got married, the 2 girls names I’d always loved ended in the same syllable as my last name (which is the same syllable as your last name, actually), so they went out the window. My husband loves 3 names, all of which are chart toppers at the moment, so those are out. As for boy names, we’ve got one and that’s plenty. All of this, and we’re still not even sure we’re having kids!

Also, unrelated, I tried Ryan’s Awesome Shoulder Move last night at the gym. The trainer that was there who likes to stalk and provide unwelcome advice was looking at me funny while I did it, but damn if it doesn’t work! My shoulders and chest are SORE today! So thanks for sharing. Got any more different exercises that are fun? I need to get my triceps back in shape for boxing this winter.

I have ALWAYS loved the name Braden for a boy… yet that name is so common nowadays. and Riley, Lane, and Blake for a girl.

See? told ya you were normal (or.. if you’re not, then I’m weird right along with you)

I think my favorite baby names change every year. For a while there were some that I loved through and through but now I find that every year I learn new names that I love more.

I definitely have both boy and girl names I love though! Ultimately for me though, it’s probably going to be based on a feeling once I see them 🙂

I actually have the names for both boys and girls, because I want to name my children after family who have passed away, i.e. Joseph, Andrew, and Bernard which can all be “converted” to female names, Josephine, Andrea, and Bernadette. I just would love to keep the memory of those people going!

I have a lot girl baby names in mind. I only have one boy name in mind. I went to a psychic once and she told me that my fiance and I are going to have 3 boys! So I guess I should probably start thinking of more boy names. 😉 Although I’m not ready to have kids yet. Waiting for our wedding first!

My new last name is Grabenbauer, which is SO long! With that being said, we definitely need to name our kids something short! Our definite go-to for a girl is Lily. Lily Grabenbauer? PRECIOUS! BUT, there’s a little significance added in there too. My husband and I always say “ily” to each other (“I love you”) and so “ily” is inside our future daughter’s name, Lily! 🙂

As for a boy, we both like Kyle. That’s where my list stops … girl names are just so much easier and there’s so many cute ones!

So funny that this post went up today as my husband and I just found out yesterday that the baby we are expecting in January is a boy! The ultrasound tech who broke the news to us said exactly the same thing as you did about nearly ever couple she’s met – they hardly ever agree on boys’ names but girls’ names are no problem. This is true of us, as well, and we had already picked out a few names for each gender before the big reveal yesterday…back to the drawing board! 🙂 Go figure my husband wants to name our son after himself and the dog – Joseph Vernon (middle name is the dog’s). I guess that wouldn’t work if you had a boy – Ryan Sadie 🙂

Even when you have the perfect names picked out, they don’t fit. Once you see your bundle of joy, smell them, and feel them. The name comes naturally, it could be a name you have picked out or a name from out of the blue.

I have a few baby names in my back pocket for when the time comes! The problem with Indian names is that the more traditional ones are harder to pronouce, so people go with fusion names or non-Indian ones altogether. This changes the game because there aren’t that many unique fusion names out there. My favorite for a girl is Anya (which is Russion) and for a boy Jayden (which is not Indian at all). Other really popular ones are Aria (girl) and Kaden (boy).

No babies for me.. but I LOVE naming things.. so I am always thinking of pet names!

I think your future girl will be Penelope Beatrice Fagan (PBF!!!)
And her brother? Phillip Bertram Fagan.

Keeping the pbfingers alive for the generations! 🙂

i straight LOLed when I read “reagan megan fagan” outloud. That is a good one.

i fell in love with the name Carina Marie…then three months later my dad’s cousin named her newborn Karina. I’m sticking with Carina though, because it’s spelled differently, and i thought of it first! haha

As far as boy names go, I’d like to honor my dad by using his first or middle…but i also like my husband’s middle name. The boy name is going to be the hardest, for sure!

I’ve loved the name Stella for a girl since I was 15 and I found out my best friend has an aunt named Stella. 13 years later and it is still my favorite baby name. There are a few other girl names that I quite like. I struggle with boy names too, although I have a weird feeling my fiance and I will end up having a girl one day anyway…. he has 4 sisters and a superwoman mom… he’s destined to be around strong females!
