Since my taste buds typically desire something on the sweeter side in the morning, I was more than happy to prepare myself a savory breakfast for once.
I made myself a wafflewich by toasting two whole wheat waffles and topping them with muenster cheese, raspberry jelly and scrambled eggs.
A cup of strawberry Activia yogurt and two blueberry brown sugar Newtons fruit thins were also enjoyed.
Sadie was not impressed with my sharing skills this morning…
Better luck next time, kiddo.
And speaking of kiddos…
Baby Names
Yesterday I tweeted this random thought…
The tweets I received in response made me realize that this is a very common thing! What surprised me most was the amount of mothers or mothers-to-be who faced this same dilemma… and then gave birth to a baby of the opposite gender than the one for which they had plenty of names on tap!
Oddly enough, I have this totally weird feeling that Ryan and I will have a boy one day which seems to go along with this trend. (Rest assured that we will not be naming him Hawk.)
One of the baby girl names I absolutely loved for years was Reagan.
I had to let that one go when I married Ryan. Reagan Fagan just doesn’t work.
Ryan suggested keeping “Reagan” and adding “Megan,” so we’d have Reagan Megan Fagan.
Endearing, no?
Question of the Morning
- Do you have a lot of baby names on tap for one specific gender or are you evenly split? Or do you not even think about these things at all?

Hahah that would be quite the name! I don’t really think about baby names much, but I’d say they’re pretty equally split between genders. I also like ones that could be a boy or girl – no soap opera names though!
Colleenzo says
Ugh, my sister just named her son ‘Beau’…the ULTIMATE soap opera name! I tried so hard not to react when she told me, but she knows I hate it!
Karen says
I love the name Reagan and it’s actually one of my top four girl names. I am pregnant and due January 1, 2012 and we are not finding out the sex but I love all my girl name (we are each picking 4 then narrowing it down to 2 once we are waiting at the hospital) and only love 1 of my boys name so far. I tend to go to names that are very Irish and mean something. We’ll see if the baby is a girl or boy come December/January.
peanutbutterfingers says
congratulations!!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I have names for both…..so I guess I am prepared 🙂
Katie says
Please don’t name your girl Reagan. My sister’s and my boss named his daughter Reagan and we endearingly refer to her as “Baby Ronnie.”
Also, I really know a person named “Teddy Graham.” I honestly didn’t believe this. People @ work (apparently I work with weirdos!) told me this was his name and I never believed it. Finally, I walked up to him and asked him for his ID. Darn if his name is not “Theodore Graham.”
I wonder when Teddy Grahams came out?
peanutbutterfingers says
teddy graham!! haha!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I definitely have more girl names than boy names that I like! I’m in the same situation as a lot of other people… my “new” last name is Lukes (pronounced Loo-kiss) so we could have Lucas Lukes! 🙂
Kelly says
Too funny!! Nothing worse then rhyming names LOL I’ve got my eyes set on Coleman Michael for a boy (both family names) but am having a hard time with the girl. I just know it has to include Mae (husband’s Grandmother’s name). I just love the idea of using names with meaning! Guess I’m sentimental like that haha.
Lauri says
When I was pregnant with my son, we had a million girl names we loved and only 2 boy names we agreed on or even halfway liked! Even as I was giving birth we had no idea what the name would be – and luckily it wasn’t a girl because we hadn’t even really narrowed down our girl names! After Ryan was born, I looked at my husband and said “What are we naming him??” And the nurse said I didn’t need to decide right away and I said “He is going to go tell my parents in the waiting room that they have their first grandson and I want him to have a name!” He looked more like a Ryan than a Ben (our other choice) so we went with it…Now if we ever have another boy, no clue what we would use because now Ben is off my list, weird how that happens!
To throw another wrench into it…our last name – Doody! Makes it a little harder. My favorite girl name used to be Mia. Mia Doody = Me a Doody. Yeah, not gonna work! I also liked Max for a boy. Max Doody = a lot of Doody. Not working either!!
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
I love the name Reagan but I think that is too hilarious.. poor kid would get mocked endlessly in grade school for a rhyming first and last name haha.
Emily says
Do you like those Newton Crisp cookies? I’ve seen them in the store but didn’t know if they’d be any good.
peanutbutterfingers says
i actually really did!
Karina says
I used to love the name Sienna for a girl, and then Vienna from the Bachelor came along. Now I’m hooked on Shayla Raine 🙂
Jen says
As funny as it would be, don’t do it! I knew a girl in elementary school named Autumn Rose Flowers. She hated it. I secretly love(d) it. I always wanted a creative name. But that’s just the whole grass is greener on the other side conundrum.
Rebecca says
Hi Julie! I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now (I love it!!!) but this is my first time posting a comment. I am totally the same way w/ baby names. When my husband and I got married 5 years ago we talked about baby names a lot (even though we didn’t want kids right away). We’d always talk about girl names, though, and since I was a kid I always thought about having a girl and what I’d name a girl. (I have 2 sisters; that’s probably why!! Baby boys were a foreign concept.) Well, lo and behold, I got pregnant on our 2-year anniversary vacation in Puerto Rico, and nine months later I had a baby boy!!! We had the hardest time picking out his name. We were all set on Alexandra for a girl — a name I’ve always loved. But we decided to name him Sebastian. He’s 1 1/2 now and the cutest thing in the whole world. 🙂 But anyway, I think baby boy names are just so hard. So many of them are boring, and if they’re not boring, they’re too “yuppy” or made-up. There are so many great classic girl names, but it’s just harder for boys. But boys are so fun and cute, it’s worth the naming difficulty! ha ha.
peanutbutterfingers says
thanks so much for taking the time to comment, rebecca! congratulations on your baby boy!!
Kristin @ STUFT Mama says
Ha ha! When I was pregnant with my twins we didn’t find out what we were having so we had to come up with two boy names and two girl names. We had a hard time with the girl ones. 😉 My hubby didn’t like any of the ones I did. And when we DID have the babeies and tell everyone the names, my mom asked if we were on drugs when we picked them. Nice. (The names grew on her after a bit). 🙂
Kait @ One Love Run says
Ha yes I totally have my names picked out! But working as a labor and delivery nurse I am around baby names all the time so I have a lot of time to think about it! I had a family once who were naming all their kids after types of wine and another after countries they had never been to (Egypt and Italy) !
Mae says
I have a lot of boy names, but my husband and I can’t agree on a single girl name! Maybe you and I need to compare notes.
Shanna, Like Banana says
Haha, I already tweeted, but yes, the hubby and I decided on Adeline Grace for a girl, but we’re having a boy so that won’t work. We have a frontrunner that I really like and will share soon 😉
Oh and I also like the name Owen, but if you know my last name, you’ll know that won’t work 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
can’t wait to hear what you decide to name your little boy!
Stephanie @ A Hungry Bookworm says
I’m in the same boat, I have several girl names I love that my husband also likes. But we cannot agree on boy names, good thing I’m not pregnant yet!
Stacy says
Oh my gosh, Reagan Megan Fagan is hilarious!
Susan says
I love this! I am waaaay far off from ever having kids, but baby names are something I think about often. Names are just fun in general 🙂 I’m pretty equal on both fronts, but find that girl’s names generally come easiest to me. Right now my favourites are Wendy and Abigail, and boys names are Alexander and Tristan.
Hillary says
I have a list of names for both genders that I LOVE, but my boyfriend is a weirdo and wants to name our future son “Emers.” I told him I’m not naming my child anything that will get his ass kicked on the playground.
Clare says
I actually love the name Julie! It’s my mom’s name so that is part of it. For a boy I’ve been really obsessed with Irish names. I love Liam, Declan and Cormac. I have trouble with girl names because I always associate a name with someone I know or once knew and then I automatically don’t want to use it haha. Julie is the exception..
Kristina @ Love and Zest says
Love your waffle idea! Yum!
Lauren B. says
That waffle meal is one of my personal favs!
Yes, I have the same issue with having a long-running list of pretty girls’ names, but only a couple of boys’ names that I like. I’ve been working on building up the strength of my boys’ names line-up. But unfortunately, I am having trouble getting pregnant, so maybe I should work on the dogs’ names! 🙂 There’s always a bright side.
Eli says
So Julie, what are the names you like?
peanutbutterfingers says
it’s a secret. 🙂
Eli says
I understand, I loved the name Gabrielle a few years ago and when I told my best friend (who was pregnant) she stole it. lol I like unique (not wierd) names, well atleast they used to be until recently, Landon for a boy and Addison for a girl. Now everyone, including people I know, are naming their kids these names so I think I’ll keep our new names a secret too! We’re also not finding out the sex until the birth.
Lara says
My BF would get along with Ryan, he loves the name BAT. Yes, he wants to name his son BAT, like the disgusting flying rodent. I said absolutely 100% no way of course. I have an unusual name that nobody can spell or pronounce (Lara, NOT LAURA) and he has a common name that everyone can spell and pronounce so I want a common name and he wants a unique name. No kids any time soon so I have lots of time to get my way 🙂
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
You’re so not alone! My husband and I were recently in Cabo, and we spent an entire afternoon in the pool trying to come up with boy’s names (I’m not pregnant either). Girl’s names just seem to be cuter. Boy names are boring.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Love the way the cheese melted into the waffle… mmm. My ex and I “had” baby names. But I think it’s like a puppy, the right name doesn’t really hit you until you meet them! 🙂
Stephanie says
Our problem is that we can’t agree on a boy’s name! I have some that i like, and he has some that he likes…but I just DO NOT like his favourite boy names. We already have a name picked out for our future girl.
The Healthy Engineer says
Hahaha I’m a little too young to start thinking about baby names….but your rhyming future child’s name just sounds hilarious!!
Marijke says
Reagan Megan Fagan… yeah that’s maybe a little too much “-gan” for a girl, haha!
I talk about baby names with my husband every now and again (I’m not pregnant either) and I was shocked when he flat-out veto-ed some of my choices. It hadn’t really occured to me that he had some baby names he liked too- I thought it was such a woman thing!
Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life says
My hubby and I have a TON of girls names we like and not a single boy we can agree on. I tend to like more creative boys names like Austin and Carter where he is more traditional like Matthew and Micheal… if we have a boy we might have some trouble! Haha
Alysha @ She's on the Run says
I love baby girl names – boys are so difficult. I love the name Oliver, but I already names by dog that!
Alex @ The Plum Foodie says
When I got pregnant we had 3 boy names picked out right off the bat. The girls names were the hard ones to come up with. Then of course, I found out I was having a girl!! My husband had his top choices picked out pretty quickly, but it took a while for me to be on board with any. We finally named her the moment we saw her – my husband won. He had Keira picked out from the very beginning because he says I look like Keira Knightley. Not sure about that but ok, I’ll take it! I would have never thought of Keira but now my little Keira looks just like her name and I couldn’t be more thrilled with our choice 🙂
Mercedes says
I’ve got a plethora of boys names on tap that I love, but can’t seem to come up with any girl names that I don’t already associate with someone in my past. I also think it is because I would like a girl to have a more unique name like my own, and as far as a boy, I don’t seem to have the same feeling.
But, I’m sure I’ve got years before I need to make any decision!
Vikkie says
I have this same problem and I’m not even in a relationship ha. But I ind myself more compelled to the girl names een though I’d probably rather have a bOy first! I absolutely love the name Sophia and so does my best friend so since she is older and pretty much engaged I will let it slide and give it to her haha.
Mallory @ It's Only Life, After All says
I feel like girls tend to embody their names more than boys do in their personalities…maybe that’s why to us it’s more fun picking girls names? There seem to be so much more of them too! Idk.
I love Lydia, Avery, Emma, and Laura
Christa says
Agh!! Regan is my favorite girl name as well. I’m not pregnant and dont have any kids, but you better believe Regan Avery and whatever her last name will be will be in my family tree eventually 😉
As far as boys are concerned I like Braxton
Maria@La_Piattini says
We have one name for each gender picked out for the future. We keep them on lock though and I plan to keep it that way until the baby comes. Once I told a cousin a name I really liked and she stole it! So I fear that would happen again.
Brittany *Sparkles* says
My sister did one worse — she stole my future baby name and used it for her dog!! lolol
Jess says
Ahh! My boyfriend’s brother wants to name his next dog Lily, which is what I would name a little girl when we have kids. I thought of it first so I’m sticking with it!! 🙂
Jenny @ loveeatrun says
I LOVE the name Lily for a little girl and insist I am going to name my first daughter that. However, since I love it so much I’m scared I’ll have all boys – all boys that I have NO names picked out for! 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
oh cool! Just yesterday I posted about morning waffles as a sandwich too! But sweet instead of savory. Omgsh! These names are so cute and it’s too funny how they rhyme. I do have several girl names and my fiance talk about this all the time. He and I agreed already on some girl names for the future! BUT! The boy names are harder and every time I bring up a name he says….”hmmmm….that’s nice and all…but wouldn’t that be bad for them? Think of shortening them. Most people won’t know what to call Ezekiel. Ezie? EEEZZZ?” so shortening the name is something to think about huh?
Colleenzo says
Zeke!
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says
I have 2 girl names I love and that’s about it. Tessa and Noelle. So, if I ever have a boy, he is going to have a hard life with one of those names.
Cait @ Beyond BAnanas says
Baby names! I thbk about them Often even though it will be many years until I have a child. I used tO have only girl namEs on my list bt realized the imbalance and have since plopped some boy names on
Sarah Elizabeth says
Lol! Reagan Megan Fagan. That brought a smile to my face this morning!
Sarah @ Simply Dove Simply Life says
I’m pretty evenly split on baby names. I already have names picked out and I’m not even married (or pregnant)! Haha! I really like Nathan for a boy and Caroline or Evelyn for a girl. I just hope I get a boy first! 🙂
Paige @ running Around Normal says
omgosh, Reagan Meagan Fagan…how charming!! LOL
I completely have more girl names on tap. They’re just more fun!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
My husband I are planning to start trying for a baby in December and have already started thinking about baby names. We want something Irish but can’t come up with anything both of us like. Everything gets shot down because of the nicknames that can be derived from the original. Like, I love Garrett, but I don’t want him called Gary. It’s very stressful to name a child!
Stephanie says
One of my nieces is named Raegan, and we call her Rae (okay, I call her Herman…short for Squirmin’ Herman, but still!). My sister-in-law loves the name Kennedy for when they have a 2nd child, but she doesn’t want kids to make fun of them for being named after presidents lol. My other niece (my sister’s new baby) is named Brynn.
I’m pretty set on naming a daughter Greta Jean…but that is a LONG way off!
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I’ve had a girl’s name picked out FOREVER so it was only appropriate that my first baby was a boy. (He’s 7 weeks today!) I had no idea what to name him, and my husband and I literally spent weeks reading baby name books before we settled on a name: Miles Atlas.
Brittany *Sparkles* says
I bet he will travel the world! 🙂
Rachel says
My husband and I talk about names too (I’m not pregnant) and have really only agreed that we like one boy name. We cannot find any girl names that we both like!! I think we need to hear what your other faves are. 🙂
Heather H. says
I like Reagan for a girl. I like it pronounced Ree-gan. My sons are Jacob and Jaden. I like Autumn Raine or Brooklyn for a girl.
