Pancakes are one of life’s little gifts in the morning. They’re fluffy and fun and delicious but more often than not, after eating them, I initially feel overly stuffed only to feel hungry less than 2 hours later. I know this is likely because of a lack of fiber, protein and fat in traditional pancakes and while regular pancakes are wonderful and fantastic to eat when a craving hits, when it comes to pancakes I consume in my day-to-day life, I’d prefer them to pack a little more of a nutritional punch. And that’s where these bad boys come in.
Helloooo banana bread protein pancakes!
These banana bread protein pancakes are a delicious, healthy and filling breakfast that feels like a special treat, especially if you take the time (it’s not much!) to make them on a busy weekday morning. And a big-time bonus: They were baby and toddler-approved in our house and one of all of our boys’ first favorite foods. I cannot tell you how many batches of these banana bread protein pancakes I made for our boys when they were younger. Thankfully the pancakes continue to be a recipe our boys request now that they’re (almost) all technically big kids and have stronger opinions about what they do and do not like. Banana bread protein pancakes = Like!
If you’d like to give this recipe a try, here’s everything you need to make a batch of banana bread protein pancakes in your house:
- Old Fashioned Oats: These essentially become your “flour” but with more fiber and staying power.
- Banana: The perfect touch of natural sweetness.
- Egg: The nutrient-dense powerhouse that also serves to keep this recipe together
- Cottage Cheese: The ingredient we can thank for the protein in this recipe! And if you hate cottage cheese, you cannot tell it’s in these pancakes, I promise!
- Cinnamon: Adds flavor and makes the pancakes smell amazing!
As written, the below recipe makes a single serving of banana bread protein pancakes but it’s easy enough to double or triple to feed more people.
If you decide to give these banana bread protein pancakes a try, I really hope you enjoy them as much as we do in our house!

Love your blog!!! Those pancakes look fantastic. Id love to try to make them but unfortunately cannot eat cottage cheese because of a dairy allergy. 🙁 Any ideas what I could substitute instead? Is applesauce a crazy idea?
peanutbutterfingers says
hmmm… that’s a hard one! applesauce may be too watery. maybe you could just add an extra egg and forgo the cottage cheese alltogether? you may need to add more banana though. not sure if that would work!
Jodi says
Pancakes are my all-time weakness. I cannot eat sweets for breakfast, though. For some reason it makes me sick-feeling.
I love that you’re including more recipes in your blog!

I always sneak cottage cheese into pancakes and waffles! My family thinks I’m crazy and refuses to taste it b/c they are grossed out by the “lumpiness” factor. More for me! Sadie is too funny in those pictures. Queen of the couch!

These sound great! I’ve never thought of using cottage cheese in my pancakes- I love cottage cheese in other dishes so it isn’t a texture/ taste thing, just never thought of it! I also love using oat bran in place of oats 🙂

I love the last Sadie picture! Priceless. I have a Viszla mix, and he also refuses to sit/lay on anything that is not soft or will not provide ultimate comfort for him. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
we think it’s funny b/c other dogs to EVERYTHING they can to get cool and sadie always wants to be bundled up and wrapped in blankets – even in the florida heat.
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
Looks DELICIOUS. Can’t wait to make it myself.. but since I don’t have en immersion blender, I wonder if the Vitamix will work? Or maybe my never-before-used food processor (I know, blasphemy) ?

Hi Julie! You always put your strength training workout – Im just wondering if you could add an what – or an estimate – of what weight you do with each… like how much you do on the lat pulldown etc . . . ? I know everybody is different and needs to start out @ a weight that works for them.. But now that your workouts have changed Im just wondering where you are along the lines of that instead of body pump, and if you keep around consistantly the same weights? Thanks~
Hannah says
I made these for my brother for lunch and he said they were the best he’d ever tried! Swapped out the cottage cheese for sour cream (since I didn’t want to dirty up a blender, and wanted to get it ready fast)… and then spread a little PB on it 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I love making bananay breakfasts! And banana is the perfect light sweetener for pancakes. Mmmmm maybe lunch should be pancakes? 😛

I may officially have to try those darned pancakes!! Those look seriously delicious.
And DEFINITELY leather!! I have found it VERY hard for puppy claws to scratch, and if they do, very EASY to rub out with a little leather conditioner. As long as I have puppies, I will always have leather couches.

Between the banana bread and pumpkin pankcakes..I don’t know which one I want to try first! They both look amazing 🙂
Malia @ Life is Good Girl says
I love making protein pancakes when I need a pancake fix. I’ve never tried mixing banana in the batter…what a novel idea! I love banana bread, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be good. Usually when I make protein pancakes, I add in 3 egg whites to the 1/2 cup oats.
Emma says
“OH the horror” That’d brilliant!

Hi Julie, love your blog!
I made these pancakes today using a regular blender, but the ingredients wouldn’t blend at first so I added a splash of milk and they turned out just fine. Thanks for the great recipes, can’t wait to try the pumpkin pancakes!
