But we’ll get to that in a minute!
Workout
I arrived back on Ocala yesterday evening to enjoy a nice dinner with Ryan and lots of playtime with Sadie.
It feels so good to be home. I missed those two!
Ryan and I awoke nice and early this morning and headed to the gym to get our workout of the day out of the way.
We began with 20 minutes on the elliptical, before Ryan and I went our separate ways and I did the following total-body workout:
It was quick and changed things up enough to keep my boredom at bay. It also made me work harder because I knew I’d be done with each exercise in just one minute!

Now for the highlight of my day so far!

- 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 very ripe banana, mashed
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and blend with an immersion blender
- Pour batter onto griddle and cook for approximately two minutes per side
- Top with syrup, fresh fruit, nuts or chocolate chips and enjoy
Oh my gosh, these were so good.
If you’re worried about the cottage cheese, please don’t be! You can’t even taste it. The pancakes taste like doughy banana pancakes and I couldn’t stop “mmm-ing” my way through this breakfast.
(If you’re looking for a single-serving banana protein pancake recipe or a recipe that doesn’t require protein powder, my banana bread protein pancakes are very similar.)
Time to hang with Ryan and Sadie. We’re hoping to hit up some hiking trails and then tonight we have a hot date on the books!

Aw, lately I’m finding myself wanting a dog so I can go on runs with the dog! Or perhaps a treadmill would serve that purpose 😉
anyhow, those pancakes sound perfect for afterwards. I’ve never tried CC in pancakes, but I’ve heard great things about it!!
Madison @ Pilates Makes You Happy says
Did you ever reach a conclusion on “The Four Hour Body”?? I googled it and I don’t know what to think??
Katie says
I know I’m not Julie.. But I bet you could omit the protein powder and just add more vanilla extract or even a tablespoon or two of vanilla Greek yogurt to keep the vanilla flavor! 🙂
Katie says
Whoops, wrong one! Sorry!
Olivia says
this pancake recipe looks so good!! do you think i can omit or substitute anything for the vanilla protein powder though?
Katie says
I know I’m not Julie… But I bet that you could omit the protein powder and just add more vanilla extract or even a tablespoon or two of vanilla Greek yogurt to keep the protein and vanilla flavor.

I need a date night! BTW, i’ve never tried cottage cheese in pancake batter. I wonder why people use it?
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Oh that does sound good–the cottage cheese would make ’em doughy I am sure. I just need to find a better fruit (I can’t do bananas) to sub ’em in.
Have a fun hike!
Kerry says
These pancakes look delicious! I make protein waffles with cottage cheese all the time, and I love them. You’re right about not being able to detect the cottage cheese. I wish I hadn’t told my husband that it was in there because now that he knows, he refuses to try them! I love banana pancakes, so I’ll have to try your recipe soon!
Julie says
Sounds so good. I need to make something like this!
Lisa says
I love having cottage cheese in my pancakes it makes them so tasty and more moist or something. They look really good!

I love your banana bread protein pancakes so I’ll have to give these babies a try!
Danielle says
what kind of protein powder do you use???
Hannah says
Just made these for breakfast, and they were delish!!! I used vanilla Greek yogurt instead of cottage cheese, almond milk for the regular milk, and 1/3 cup all whites in place of the egg and they turned out perfect, even my mom who is not so crazy about protein powder or Greek yogurt raved how much she loved them, and that she never wants “regular” pancakes ever again! Thanks for all of your great advice, I’m so happy I happened to stumble upon your blog!
Nicola says
Its about 126 calories minimum for 1 pancake but they are mostly protein and sugar. Hope this helps 🙂
Nancy says
OMG…It’s 11 o’clock at night and after reading this, I am soooo ready for breakfast! Can’t wait to try them. Thanks for sharing.
You Matter! Smiles, Nancy

Depending on which ingredients you use, whole milk /skim milk/ almond milk, etc. The difference in calories is not that great. On the high end 138 calories on the low end 122 calories per pancake. Keep in mind you, you may want to save some calories for the toppings!
Rachel says
I have been looking at these pancakes for like a week now! I think I’ll have to give them a go this weekend lol only no bananas for me– sadly I’m allergic :/
Lily @ Candied-Life says
Hi! Can I make these with a regular blender and get the same consistency/texture? They look so good, I’m about to head to Publix to pick up the cottage cheese and eggs!
JoAnn says
Did you try this recipe with a regular blender? Just curious if it worked well. I want to try this recipe soon!

Just wanted to let you know how much I adore your blog. It’s uplifting, inspiring and a great resource for food and fitness. I made these pancakes this morning for my hubby before our morning workout, and they were a huge hit. I added an extra half banana and some cinnamon and nutmeg. So delicious. Thank you for being a genuine, happy presence on the web and in our lives!

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
