I have a bad habit of completely neglecting most of the food that’s in my freezer.
Since I regularly use the English muffins, bagels and frozen fruit that I store in the freezer, most of the other food inevitably gets pushed to the back where I completely forget about it.
Yesterday as I grabbed the big bag of frozen strawberries to make myself a smoothie for an afternoon snack, I caught a glimpse of an orange cranberry Barookie!
A few months ago, the kind people from EONI sent me several Barookies to sample and I put them directly into the freezer since they were frozen when they arrived.
Yesterday I pulled the orange cranberry Barookie out of the abyss that is my freezer and let it thaw overnight so by 10 a.m. today, I had a delicious morning snack!
Barookies are all-natural energy bars and taste like a cross between a super thick granola bar and a cookie. They were quite filling and I headed out to a lunchtime Taste of Ocala committee meeting feeling quite satisfied.
The meeting lasted about two hours and as I was leaving, a fellow committee member suggested stopping for frozen yogurt afterward and I happily agreed.
I call this my chocolate peanut butter bomb!
I filled my cup with chocolate and peanut butter frozen yogurt and topped it with a myriad of peanut butter and chocolate-flavored toppings.
The view from underneath the whipped cream…
Unappetizing photo, but it tasted great!
When I arrived back home, I wasn’t really in the mood to throw together a plated lunch and my appetite wasn’t exactly raging.
I decided to make myself a simple smoothie and called it lunch.
Into the blender went:
- 1 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 cup milk
Vegetables are on the menu for tonight’s dinner!
P.S. The Fashion page was updated today.

never even heard of barookie! sounds like something i’d love though if it’s a cross between a cookie and granola bar. your fro yo combo sounds PERFECT. love all the peanut butter involved. 😉
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I haven’t seen a Barookie before but it certainly sounds good! And it only just occurred to me why the product has that name…. slow much? haha!
Stephanie @ Legally Blinde says
Wow, a cross between a granola bar and a cookie sounds pretty amazing – I’ll have to keep an eye out for those! Your chocolate peanut butter bomb looks delicious 🙂
HRCK the Herald says
Your frozen yogurt creation is inspiring me to run downstairs to the frozen yogurt place in my building to recreate that! You’ve got the right ratio of froyo to toppings for sure 🙂
Sana says
I have heard of a brookie-brownie+cookie!
Emily says
I can’t remember if you’ve addressed this before or not – but when you freeze your bananas, do you leave them in the peel or peel them and put them in a freezer bag? I’m hopping on the smoothie train & need any and all advice! Maybe a smoothie recipe roundup? 🙂
Emily says
Never mindddddddd… my brain is turned off today! But I’m still wondering about the banana peel lol
Jordan says
Well I’m not Julie, but I personally do not recommend freezing them with the peel still on. They are very difficult to peel when they’re frozen! I always peel my bananas, cut them into chunks, and store them in baggies.

Even the simple smoothie looks delicious!

Major adult perk: choosing to eat ice cream for lunch. I like it, Julie!
Michelle says
That simple smoothie sounds great; looks super creamy! I’m totally the same with the freezer, until it’s time to do a defrost and I’m reminded of all the goodies!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
omg that fro yo looks INSANE!!!!

I’m pretty sure that your fro-yo looks awesome! I wish that my closest frozen yogurt place wasn’t 25 minutes away!

Your frozen yogurt looks yummy! I’m hoping to track some down this weekend!
Katie @ Katie Moves says
I could eat fro-yo with the top pins EVERY day for lunch!
Emily says
I don’t know what you’re talking about, ‘unappetizing’-I love when I have more toppings than frozen yogurt! That looks delicious!
Ashley says
This Barookie sounds right up my alley! I’m going to order some now!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
For some reason I find the name barookie hilarious! No idea why, lol. Looks great!
Angela says
That barookie sounds like it was made for me. Granola bars and cookies are two of my favorite things, and I became absolutely addicted to the cranberry + orange combo after my mom and I bought a cranberry orange Irish soda bread from our local grocery a couple months ago. Soooooo yummy!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Never had a barookie, but that thing looks pretty awesome! Anything that’s a healthier version of a cookie is good in my book!

If the recent fashion posts were slightly induced by my comment requesting more….than I suppose a thank you is in order! THANKS! 🙂
Sammy Jean says
Looks like that Barookie got a little beat up in the back of the fridge… I’m sure I have stuff in mine that I won’t even be able to recognize! What an awesome surprise when you find something like that 🙂
Chelsea says
Ohh I want my own barookie now!
Khushboo says
The word Barookie is fun to say 🙂
Gabrielle @ LookSharpSconnie says
I don’t know if I’m just hungry, but every single thing in this post looks insanely good.
The barookie (newfavword) looks dense and full of texture and amazing, I could face-plant into that frozen yogurt, and the smoothie looks like really thick milk fit for Santa Claus.
I bet they’d be really good combined. Barookieyoblend. 🙂

I always neglect my freezer and sometimes all of our food storage… we have all this food already, but I find myself at the grocery store buying more. Sometimes it’s just like “we need to eat what we already have!”
Jessica says
Hi Julie…where can Barookie’s be ordered online? I can’t seem to find Eoni’s website!
peanutbutterfingers says
i asked them this yesterday! apparently they don’t yet have a website up aside from their facebook page. they said you can find their products at the following locations: Sprouts Farmers Markets, HEB Supermarkets, and Hy-Vee Supermarkets

I have to vent. I wanted to try a smoothie with spinach in it after reading some of your posts and went to get one at the smoothie/deli place. I asked for spinach in it and the girl looked at me like I was crazy. I had to repeat myself 4 times before she told me she couldn’t do that due to food safety. I am about to graduate with a degree in food safety and there is no reason she could not have done it… I bought a smoothie and a side of spinach and brought it home to my blender instead.
