I have another full day of travel ahead of me today! I’m off to San Francisco and will be heading to the airport as soon as I publish this post. I’m hoping to use some of my travel time to recap Saturday’s races and catch up on work. Crossing my fingers for in-flight wifi!
Breakfast + Beach Run
This morning I was up at 7 a.m. and inhaled a quick breakfast to fuel me through a morning run on the beach with Sadie.
I threw together a bowl of cottage cheese and fresh blueberries and let it digest for 30 minutes or so before leashing up Sadie and heading out.
My calves felt tiiiight for the first two miles of our five mile run, but thankfully loosened up a bit once we got moving.
I took a few minutes to stretch (and snap the pic below!) about halfway through our run which felt fantastic.
A little mid-run stretching is just what my body needed.
During the second half of our run, I saw hawks fishing for their morning meal and a bunch of dolphins. I definitely cannot complain about the views on a run like that!
(If you look out into the distance of the above photo you can faintly see the dorsal fins of two dolphins!)
Once we made it back to my parents’ place, I grabbed a quick shower before digging into breakfast number two.
An almond butter and jelly sandwich!
Now I’m off to the airport. See ya from San Francisco!
Questions of the Morning
- Where is your favorite place to run?
- Where is one of the most beautiful places you’ve ever gone on a run?
One of the most beautiful runs I’ve ever been was an early morning run around Oahu with Ryan. It was so gorgeous outside and we couldn’t get over the beauty of the island. Plus, it was so much fun to watch the surfers catch some killer waves as we ran along the beach.
Annie @ What's Annie Making says
Love that picture of you and Sadie! So cute!!! My favorite place to run right now is on this gorgeous hilly trail in Iowa. It’s so pretty right now with the spring/summer flowers and green trees, but it’s gorgeous in fall too when the seasons change.
Kate @ Endorphin Junkie says
I just got back from Cali and the weather was amazing! The three hour time difference is totally kicking my butt today though!
Leslie @ Life Begins @ 30? says
It looks like a beautiful morning run! I love running on the trails in KC during fall. The leaves changing and cool air make it a perfect mini getaway without going anywhere. Beach running is awesome, but I don’t get to do it very often. One of my favorite traveling runs was in NYC-can’t beat Central Park!
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
Absolutely love that picture of you and Sadie!!! So cute! And nothing beats a beach run, they are the best in my book 🙂
Cassy @ On The Inside says
My favorite places I’ve run would have to be on the beach in the Dominican Republic or on the trails in the woods of Pennsylvania. There’s nothing like running in a place where you feel like you’re completely away from the hustle and bustle of the world! So calming and peaceful.
Kaella (KaellaOnTheRun) says
WOW, this looks like a beautiful view for a run! Have a safe flight! 🙂

Yay for San Francisco! i live here and my favorite place to run is in the Marin headlands on beautiful trails just across the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito.
Let me know if you need any hot tips for your trip! 🙂

Other than running the Chicago Marathon last fall, my husband and I haven’t traveled to many places to run we mostly run local in Wichita, KS. other than the beautiful sunsets and sunrises, it’s pretty flat. 🙂 However, one of my favorite runs is when we traveled to Ouray, Colorado for vacation and my husband, two sons and I ran the local 5k trail run. The morning was cool and crisp and the mountains and river were our scenery. It was absolutely breathtaking.
Leah @ goodnight cheese says
It’s always funny when you blog about blogging – blog-ception.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
The most beautiful run I’ve gotten to do was a 5k around the North Shore in Hawaii. It was breathtaking.
I love that picture of you and Sadie. Have a safe trip to San Fran!
Ashley Pitt @ A Lady Goes West says
Running along the Embarcadero in San Francisco can be pretty amazing, same with running the Golden Gate Bridge (but that gets a little crowded at times). Have a good trip!
Laura @ Raise Your Garden says
Most beautiful sight after a run is…. anywhere I end up when I’m done. Finished. Completed the race. Poof! Happiness =)
Julie says
Ha! Yes!!!!
Amy says
My most beautiful run was along Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Quiet…just me and the water. I’m leaving for a vacation to Florida tomorrow, so I’m hoping I can run on the beach and one-up my previous favorite! 🙂
Julie says
Lake Geneva is gorgeous!!!
Brynn says
I loved running in Hawaii, San Francisco and Boston. But my favorite place to run is along the bay when I go home.

I visited London in March and was so excited to go for a run around the city and cross over the London Bridge! It was a great experience.
Julie says
That sounds awesome!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I love to run at St. George Island, FL. We grew up vacationing there so it’s extra special to run through the plantation we stay at on all of the trails and then out along the water 🙂 AH I can hear the water now!
LisaG says
Love St. George; I live about 2 hours away. One of my favorite places too!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Lately I love running down by the beach for the beautiful views. Wish we had dolphins up here to see in the ocean!
Kristen @ Vitamin K Girl says
What an awesome way to start the day!
Heather @ PrettyHealthyMostoftheTime says
I’ve never really liked running (yep, I said it). However, I went to Costa Rica last fall and stayed at a house on the beach. I found myself dying to run along the beach everyday!
Apparently I just need to move near the ocean 🙂
Katie says
I recently did a race on Highway 1 in Cali. Big Sur and Bixby Bridge was amazing!
Emily @ Fit as a Mother... says
My favorite place to run is also the most beautiful place I’ve gone running – Greenville, SC, Falls Park on the Reedy. No music needed when you’ve got the sights and sounds of the river and waterfall!
LG says
My husband and I did a sightseeing run in Chicago a few years ago. We’re from Canada, but we did a trip where we flew to New Orleans and drove up through Nashville to end our trip in Chicago.
I had bought an Alabama football team hat ealier on our trip and was wearing it during the run and a man yelled out from across the park “ALABAMA ALLLLL RIIIIIGHHT” in a Southern accent. It took me a little while to realize why he was yelling at me, lol! I just waved back and smiled, ha ha. Man, folks in the US LOVE their football!! :0)
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
You are a little jetsetter – wowee! That’s awesome. I think a morning run on the beach is probably one of the most perfect ways to start the day. I love running on the beach, but running in the beautiful green mountains in Utah is pretty spectacular too!
Marielle says
Have fun in San Fran busy girl! My favorite place to run is along the beach. I’m so lucky I live very close to Hermosa and Manhattan Beach in LA and try to run at these places as often as I can! 😉
Sky @ The Blonde In Black says
That picture of Sadie and you is so adorable! And your almond butter and jelly sandwich looks sooo yummy! My favorite place that I’ve ran is when I worked at a camp in the hill country of Texas! I would always see deer and armadillos on my run.
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
back-to-back FUN blog trips!!

Kind of random but do you run in the sand or on a pathway near the beach? Running in sand can be INTENSE. Jealous of your dolphin-filled view!
Julie says
I run on the hard-packed sand! Running in the soft sand would kill me!
Laura @ RunningJunkie says
5 miles on beach?? That sounds intense. Right now I run mostly around capitol hill and the national mall in DC. Pretty:-)
Julie says
I stayed on the hard-packed sand. 🙂 I’m not that hardcore!
LisaG says
I’m more of a walker, but anywhere there is a beach is my fave. About to head there for a week’s vacay.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
I’ve never done a beach run. Whenever I’m at the beach, it’s always for vacation, and other than a relaxing walk, I’m not into exercising on vacation. I’d spill my margarita… 😉
Coco says
I’m partial to my own hometown–I love running through Baltimore. The Canton waterfront park is amazing!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
The beach in the early morning just after sunrise, my favorite!
Kate says
I ran through the botanical gardens at Clemson University one time, and it was absolutely GORGEOUS. There are a TON of different paths that you can take, and I purposely tried to “get lost” in the gardens because I just couldn’t think of a better place to be lost haha
Carrie says
Originally from MN (flat, flat, flat) and now living in CO, I love running anywhere with mountain views!
Polly @ Tasty Food Project says
I love running anywhere where there is a beautiful view and body of water. 🙂

While on vacation in Newcastle, Australia I went for a run along the ocean! Absolutely breathtaking!! By far my most memorable and favourite run! Not too sure if anything will be able to top that!
Hilary says
My favorite place to run is a short 4 mile bike path out in the country by my house. It is placed along some great scenery and it is pretty low populated! I love running in the silence it is perfect for clearing your head and resetting!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
What a perfect way to begin the day! You are certainly racking up on your frequent flier miles this month! I think my favorite place to run would be somewhere in the mountains…beautiful scenery and not too hot. 🙂
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Running on the beach is tough work! Love running in new cities or when on holidays and getting to explore while on the move! Can’t wait to see where you’re off too…Brittany heading in the same direction 🙂
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk says
I get so jealous when I see people post runs with such gorgeous scenery! I’ve never run somewhere so pretty! One day, I hope!
My favorite place to run is a shaded quiet neighborhood near my house. I love the shade, and passing small parks with animals and the occasional deer, I just love that peace and quiet. 🙂

I live in San Francisco and my favorite is running along the Embarcadero or running the stairs in Pacific Heights (by Billionaire’s Row!). We actually met the last time you were in SF! Hope you have a great trip out here and let me know if you would like to drop in to our CrossFit box in the morning! Would love to have you!
Emily says
My favorite runs are the Presidio trails in SF and Annadel State Park in Sonoma County. Enjoy SF! I’m traveling for work this week and sorta miss home already :'(
Brooke@SweetnSweaty says
I love that pic of you and Sadie! Adorbs! The beach is my ultimate favorite run. However, I live nowhere close to one so the beautiful paved trails with creeks and lakes does the trick! I enjoyed running on the beach on my recent trip to the Dominican. I can only imagine Oahu was fabulous. I went to Oahu years ago before I really got into running! It’s on my “to run” list!
Alexa says
So you run on the hard-packed sand — is that the sand right near the water? And do you run on the beach in running shoes still? I just started running(C25K on the treadmill only) but I’m going to be on the beach for a week at the beginning of July and I want to take advantage of it, but I don’t want to start to hate running!
Alicia says
The best place I have run is Tanzania. Not only is the lanscape beautiful, but seeing the local villagers in the early morning and chatting in Swahili with them about our run was amazing.
