As someone who has lived in Florida since 2003, it’s hard to believe that I’ve never gone for a run on the beach until this morning.
After stopping for dinner at my father-in-law’s house last night and leaving Sadie in good hands with him and his girlfriend, Ryan and I drove to Sanibel Island to join my family for a weekend vacation at the beach.
This morning Ryan and I awoke around 7:30 a.m. and headed out to the beach for a run.
We ran toward the end of the island to the light house before turning around and coming back. We actually saw a sting ray washed up on the beach which was really neat (and a little sad… poor guy).
In the end we covered five miles before walking along the beach for a bit.
When we arrived back at the condo, my family was up and about and chatting away. Ryan and I quickly prepared his and hers breakfast bowls of oatmeal with sugar and peanut butter.
I added more sugar than I intended to and my bowl ended up tasting a lot like oatmeal peanut butter cookie dough. I’m not complaining though because it was delicious!
Now we’re about to change into our bathing suits for a day at the beach!
See ya soon!
Jealous! I want a day at the beach! Beach running always makes me so sore, but in a good way! I think the extra “give” in the sand must work different muscles or something.
Enjoy your family weekend!
I am so jealous! I cant wait for it to be beach time here in Mass!! Have so much fun!
Aahh! I know exactly where you are on the beach!! Brings back so many memories and took me right back there for just a brief moment while I’m sitting here at my desk. Thanks so much for sharing and enjoy the wonderful weather you will have this weekend!!! 🙂
OMG you are SO lucky you have a beach to run on! When I went to the Dominican Republic last Feb I ran on the beach every single morning – SO HOT, but an awesome workout! Have a fab day and thanks for sharing all the sunshine-y photos this morning! 🙂
ive never gone for a beach run. what a nice way to start your morning. i have to admit, im a big jealous.
Oh my gosh! What a fun weekend you’re going to have! Looks like you started it off right too!
I can’t believe you have not run on the beach! Glad you tried it, it looks beautiful outside. I find being on the beach so peaceful! Enjoy your mini vacation 🙂
My fav place to run is the beach…but, I like to run barefoot in the sand.
Enjoy your beach day!
Looks like you have a great weekend ahead of you! Running on the beach is so much harder than running on the street. You go girl 🙂
Omg, so jealous you’re at the beach! That’s an adorable pic of you and Ryan. Have a great wknd with your fam!!
I love the shot of you kissing–so cute! Glad you’re enjoying the beach.
Add me to the jealous list! I will try not to think about the fact that here in Edmonton Alberta it’s currently
-24C! Joys of living on the Canadian prairies…the constant fluctuations from springlike melty weather to deep freezes this time of year.
Don’t feel sorry for the stingray. If they are washed up they can still sting you — and they will. A few years ago I was stung by a washed up stingray and it was seriously painful because they carry a neurotoxin that doesn’t cause any lasting damage but it causes horrible pain that radiates through your body.
I always do feel really hard core when I get an opportunity to mention that I’ve been stung by a stingray, though.
yikes!!! that IS hardcore.
I totally want to make that bowl of oats now–I am obsessed with cookie dough!
how fun!
Sounds like the perfect day! Enjoy it. I am so jealous. There is nothing better than running on the beach to start your day.
I’ve lived in Florida all my life(with the exception of my first year of college) and I’ve never ran on the beach! And I currently go to school thats only 25 min away from the beach! Shame on me.;)
Hope you have a fun weekend!
I love running on the beach- I actually ran one of my fastest times in a race on the beach in Jacksonville!
Cute kissy picture Julie! What a gorgeous way to start the day on the beach! Love your blog I’m a huge fan! you hae inspired me to create my own!
aw, that’s awesome! hope you love blogging as much as i do!
I love running on the beach! every year, I run on the beach for training during our family vacation to north myrtle beach.
do you and ryan run at the same pace? I used to have to practically DRAG james out the door to run with me… and even then, it was a dilly dally pace. since ryan seems to be into the he-man “grrrumph!” weights like james is, I wanna know how good he is about runnin’. =)
he has a natural ability that i can only dream of! he just runs at my pace (which is significantly slower than his). he doesn’t run as often though & said he’s already feeling sore. he once ran an entire half marathon w/o training at all. i’m jealous!
gosh, you’re lucky. a husband AND a doggy that will run with you! 😉
P.S. way to go on your 5 miler!! what’s a good 5 mile pace for you?
9:30 seems about right!
What a cute picture of you and Ryan! It sounds like you are going to have a fun weekend! Enjoy your day! 🙂
peanut butter cookie dough oatmeal sounds delish! a perfect vacation day breakfast 🙂 the picture of you two smoochin’ is adorable, by the way!
Five miles on the beach is like 10 miles on the road — What resistance!
A beach weekend sounds amazing right about now!! And I’m a total sugar addict when it comes to oats. Whenever my BF or friends try a spoonful they’re amazed at how sweet it is. That’s the best way to do it! Enjoy your time with your family!
That’s a crazy workout! You and Ryan are so stinkin’ cute 🙂 Have fun today!
Yummy breakfast!
A coworker sent me this website to help provide breakfasts for children through Kellogg’s. For each image of breakfast that is uploaded, Kellogg’s will help kids to get breakfast. Since you upload your breakfasts daily, thought you might be interested in sending them here.

I’ve been meaning to tell you about a great product. I saw in past posts that you have used Brothers Fruit Crisps, but I have an alternative I like much better! It kind of looks like it is for kids (but who cares, right?) but it’s called Funky Monkey Snacks (www.funkymonkeysnacks.com). They have a ton of flavors, but their Apple and Cinnamon flavor is GREAT in oatmeal, yogurt, etc.
Just a thought ! 🙂
Yall are SO CUTE…I wanna be at the beach with my man! I am so jealous. Have a great weekend 🙂
Yum! I have to try peanut butter in oatmeal, sounds/looks delicious!
Isn’t running on the beach HARD? I always think it is harder than running on pavement. The humidity is higher, the ground not as stable even when you run down by the surf and while the scenery is beautiful it gets a bit monotonous when you can just see for literally miles and miles and miles in a straight line in front of you.
i totally agree! it’s so pretty but challenging… but i haven’t been to the beach in like 2 years (sad face) so i haven’t experienced that in awhile….
What a great way to start your weekend! Have so much fun today with your fam! 🙂
I’ve never been to Sanibel but I have been t Boca Grande and loved it! The weather is so nice right now, too! Have an awesome weekend! P.s. You guys are adorable!
Sounds amazing!! Hope you two have a great weekend with your fam 🙂
Aww! That is such a sweet picture of you and Ryan. You are so in love! 🙂 I miss beach runs. I used to run on the beach almost everyday when I lived in San Diego. There is nothing better than a morning beach run, especially with your love, with the waves crashing at your feet and soft sand under your feet. Have you tried running without shoes? It feels amazing! Have a great, relaxing day at the beach! I am so jealous!
No I’ve never tried! I’m not gonna lie, it intimidates me a bit.
Rough life kiddos…Rough lives! 😉 ha
I have run on the beach a couple of times while on vacation and it is so much harder to do!
Does the place you are staying not allow dogs I’m guessing?
Sadly no 🙁 I miss Sadie already!!
Running on the beach sounds amazing! I’m going to go sit by a heater and pretend that it’s not currently 10 degrees where I live. 🙂
Ahhhhhhh you must be staying right around where my family owns a condo. They own at Sanibel Siesta (we used to have some at the Sundial, too) Love both!! I run to the lighthouse every day when I’m there!! I miss it!!!!!!!!
We’re staying at Sanibel Moorings!
Yep, I know EXACTLY where that is! Run by it every time I’m there 🙂 Wave hello to the lighthouse for me 🙂
Are you going to ride bikes around the island too?
I can’t wait to go back to Sanibel this April, love it there.
Enjoy the warmth, sun, sand and sea!
We hope to do that tomorrow!!
Beach running has always intimidated me! I’ll have to try it out in April because I’m actually headed to Sanibel then! Have a wonderful day soaking up the rays. 🙂
I love beach runs, but I actually like to run them barefoot!
I love beach running! So fun…I’d run by the water anytime I could…if I could 🙂
I love your blog! Just saying 🙂
Thank you!!!
Looks like the perfect day for the beach. I’m so jealous. Have so much fun!
Sounds like a great way to kick off a vaca!
Oh I love running on the beach! It is the best feeling to have the waves crashing around you and the sun beating down your back. Have a great time at the beach today….I am SO jealous 😉
Cool! Where are you guys this weekend?? THe beach looks gorgeous, hope you are having fun!
we’re on sanibel island in SW florida.
I am so jealous of your beach run! I need a beach in my life soon!
