Good morning from Sadie’s blanket fort!
Sadie is used to our early morning gym routine by now. When the alarm goes off, she follows us downstairs, jumps onto the couch and gives us her guilt trip eyes until we lift up a blanket for her to curl under. She stays there until we get home from the gym when she proceeds to follow me around the kitchen hoping for a taste or two of my breakfast scraps. Not a bad morning routine if you ask me!
Workout + Breakfast
After tucking Sadie into her blanket fort, Ryan headed off to the gym and I headed off to teach Spinning. I was wide awake when the alarm went off this morning, so I fortunately arrived to class feeling rather energetic for a 6 a.m. ride.
Sixty minutes later, class was over and my workout for the day was done. Check!
After cleaning up a bit and talking with some gym members for a little while, I drove home ready for breakfast.
My morning meal began with a small bowl of granola and a Honeycrisp apple that I ate while preparing a hot bowl of scrambled eggs.
My eggs lately have been on point thanks to the creamy wedges of The Laughing Cow cheese that I stir in at the very end. They really add so much flavor and I feel like I taste the cheese in every last bite when I stir them in at the end rather than while the eggs are cooking. Just a little tip for those out there who are on the cheesy egg train like me right now!
Now that I have breakfast in my belly, it’s time to grab a hot shower, change into fresh gym clothes and drive back to work. I hope you guys have a wonderful Tuesday!!
P.S. I just signed this blog post “Sincerely, Julie” – What!? Maybe I’m not as awake as I think!!
Questions of the Morning
- Pet owners: Do your pets know your morning routine? Do they have a morning routine of their own?
Run Eat Play says
Sincerely Julie! I love it! Blogs are kind of like diaries/letters!
Julie says
true!! they are very conversational. 🙂
Mary says
I’m a nurse and a colleague of mine signed all her charts , “love Jeanne “one night while we were working nights. The funniest part was she never noticed until she went back to work the next night.
Julie says
hahaha!!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Bahaha ok, Dear Diary 😉 My dog definitely has a morning routine, and more often than not she wakes us up every morning with multiple “hmmphs” that she’s hungry!
Shelley says
Ah, a dog’s life…crawling back under the covers right after you get up!! Cute pic of Sadie.
Sara says
How do you make scrambled eggs in a bowl?! This sounds so much quicker than a frying pan! My dog wakes us up to eat then good up on our bed, burrows her self under the covers and goes back to sleep. What a life!
Julie says
oh i make them in the skillet before transferring them into a bowl… but i know you can make microwavable scrambled eggs! i’d just google a tutorial b/c i know there are tons out there!
Caitlyn says
My dog’s morning routine involves a lot of sulking. Haha. She hasn’t figured out yet we always come back!
Sincerely, Caitlyn 😉
Julie says
LOL!

Blinker (the cat) definitely has a morning routine. The hubbs and I are morning gym goers, so Blinker feels it necessary to MEOW (I mean, remind us) that his food bowl needs FRESH food while we’re stumbling around. (He’s such a little snob) When we get back, he likes to hang out while we take showers, peaking in the shower curtain to make sure we’re okay and that we don’t go down the drain. He’s a fan of laying on a loose towel while I’m doing my hair. Getting a running launch to the bed in hopes that we’ll throw him a sock and play with him. And if you don’t give him a kitty treat with a “have a good day” out the door, you’re in for some evil glares later!
Julie says
this is so adorable! your comment made me smile. 🙂 blinker sounds like quite a character!
Mary Beth Richardson says
He is! 🙂 He also enjoys a good blanket fort as well!!!
Leah (goodnight cheese) says
Cats would just be like “Ok whatever bye, see you later. Make sure to feed me.”
I do love cats though
Julie says
haha!
Jessie @ Just Jessie says
Oh my gosh, I just love Sadie! I can’t wait until I can have my own pup. Right now I have a cat, but he still has a morning routine called, “What’s the earliest I can wake Jessie up so she can feed my fat butt.”
Ashley says
Sadie is so cute!!!!! Your morning routine is so sweet! It makes me want to get a pup
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
awww haha I wish my morning were like sadie’s!
skigirl0891 says
I want a dog so badly! I always said not until we have kids, and with these babies on the way, this summer could be it! Although the debate goes on, small dog or big protector….hmmmm.. 🙂
Samantha McClelland says
My dog definitely knows the morning routine! She gets up with me at 5am and then once I let her out and feed her, I go off to workout and she climbs in to bed with my sister! That way she gets to nap for another couple of hours haha!
Kim says
Too cute!! My dog always wakes up to my alarm.. Even if I don’t!

Brittany @ Lemon Lime Life says
Lando wakes us up everyday by pacing from one side of the bed to the other on what we call his goat path. Then its a quick trip outside and then back in for breakfast. He has a major hunger for life. This is all followed by going back to sleep for a hours on the couch. Oh the life of a dog!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Omg I love Sadie. Punkin loves when we make the bed in the morning. He bounces around from corner to corner as we pull it tight and then loves to burrow into the comforter. He’s the king of the bed. 😀
Carrie says
Aw I love Sadie!! And I totally agree with you on the Laughing cow in the eggs— makes SUCH a difference!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
Is that chex granola good?? I’ve seen it at the store recently and wondered if it’s worth a try!
Julie says
yes!!! but so, so addicting! you’ve been warned. 🙂
Leiah says
I love morning routines! My baby Vizsla just figured out she’s big enough to jump on the bed so after I get coffee she jumps on the bed and burrows under the blankets with me until it’s shower time, then she has to get a drink out of the shower faucet while I run the water! Dogs are so funny! I’ve been meaning to ask you – did you guys put Sadie into any type of puppy training? We are debating on it and think she might really need it since she’s such a wild woman!!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
My pups definitely have a little routine. If one of us is still in bed, they love to hop in and wake you up with kisses. And they know breakfast is coming, so they are excited. I always feel a little sad leaving them in the morning haha.
Karina @ fitsickle says
I need to try that cereal! And I loooove putting a Laughing Cow wedge into my eggs… Especially the garlic & herb one. I add those wedges to everything…so good in quinoa 🙂 Have a great day!
Julie says
the garlic & herb one is AMAZING!
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
Our cat has a ridiculous morning routine. She wakes up at 5 am, and proceeds to claw at our faces until my husband gets up for work. He feeds her, then she follows him into the bathroom and waits outside the curtain while he showers. When he is done she goes and sits in the wet shower for about 10 minutes (not sure why?). When she is done in the shower she heads downstairs and cuddles with Josh while he has his coffee.
On the weekends we have to lock our kitty up in the basement as she won’t let us sleep in past 5!
Rachel says
Hi Angela,
My cat does this too. My vet said cats like to gravitate towards warm spaces. Rocky sits outside the shower and jumps in as soon as the water turns off. Maybe it’s the steam or something.
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
Makes sense for sure! Eeyore whines outside the bathroom door the whole time I am in the shower if I don’t let her in the bathroom!
Jill says
I love Laughing Cow in my scrambled eggs. I typically add it in after I plate them, but I like the idea of adding it at the end of cooking. I’ll try that next time. My dog is very lazy in the mornings. 🙂 There is a lot of yawning and stretching and re-snuggling into her bed. She usually gets up around 8 to go out and have breakfast. (My husband works from home, which is helpful for our little late riser.)
Lauren says
Sadie is so cute. When I was younger I would always yell mom when I woke up and then my dog came running to my room to lick my hand twice and then leave. This happened every morning. 😀
Becky says
My mutt, Buddy, has his own morning routine for sure. He goes downstairs with whoever wakes up first, gets his breakfast and then sneaks back up to bed to sleep a little longer before we can take him outside. He knows how to work the system 😉
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
My cat’s morning routine involves following us around as we get ready and meowing until he gets food/is petted to his content lol. Then it’s time for a nap on the couch. What a life!
Marielle says
I love dogs, haha! My dog’s routine is to get up when we do, eats and goes to the bathroom outside, then runs back to our room and goes back to sleep! Ha, sounds pretty perfect to me! 🙂
Chelsea says
My dog HAS to have time on my lap in the morning. As soon as he sees me grab my coffee cup he gets really excited and runs to the couch. He’s very patient till I call him up and then he snuggles with me till I have to leave. It makes it so hard to leave in the morning but I love having cuddly time with him!
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks) says
That laughing cow trick sounds delicious & amazing! I must try!
Cassie says
We call my dog’s wake-up routine “Morning Maxie,” because he is too cute in the morning. He wakes us up by laying on top of us and licking our faces, and stretching out across the bed (he weighs 7 pounds). It’s the cutest ever. Then he tries to avoid going out, because it’s freezing. When he comes back in he plays for a bit on the couch with his toys, then begs for food while I make breakfast and lunches. And finally there’s the guilt trip. Once he realizes its not Saturday, he becomes the saddest most pathetic looking dog. Sometimes he shakes, and I’ve even seen tiny tears in his eyes, I swear! What an actor. I’m pretty sure he sleeps all day while we are gone, but until we leave he likes to watch us get ready from the bed, and look as sad as possible in hopes we don’t. Seriously, it’s so sad leaving in the morning, but it’s pretty ridiculous. Haha.
Laur says
My dog sleeps in his own bedroom (my brother’s old room),so he has a little “playpen” he sleeps in full of blankets. He wakes up, goes to the bathroom, and grabs his bone ready to play! Also, while I workout he walks on the treadmill downstairs with me LOL.
And I add a laughing cow wedge to Annie’s mac n cheese . SO good.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Don’t you love that post-class feeling when you’ve both taught and worked out? Good stuff! Deserving of a yummy breakfast and dog love!
ashley says
My dog’s morning routine involves a whole lot of trying to prevent me from doing mine. From the second I wake up in the morning she follows me around determined to keep me from going to the gym, leaving for work, etc. Poor pup, she just wants to be thisclose all the time haha
Heather @ Life In Leggings says
I need to get involved in teaching classes that I actually work out in! I miss those. Have a great Tuesday!
Sincerely,
Heather

Sadie sounds just like my puppy! I am a very early gym goer (like 5 am early) he doesn’t even get out of bed, but when I come home he is up and ready to follow me around until it is time for me to head to work! Then I get those sad puppy dog eyes when I leave.
Molly Martin says
We have a 9-year-old boxer who is our fur baby, we love her! She will follow me around all morning and starts her “I know you are leaving” shakes once I start brushing my teeth to head out for the day. Wish I could take her everywhere with me! She also gets wrapped up with blankets on the couch before I leave. Love this post!
Abigail says
Oh my goodness my dog has more of a serious morning routine than I do. Her favorite though is breakfast time. Most mornings I’ll make some sort of scrambled egg and she is so used to me throwing a little in her dish that she now sits at her dish and watches me cook, just waiting for her snack to be delivered. (It’s kind of genius because it’s sooooo much better than her pacing around my feet ready to trip me at any moment).
Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz says
Sadie has so much personality…I love it! My dogs are too funny…in the winter they roll over and play ‘dead fish’ when I try to pick them up to put them outside..especially if it is an early morning. In the summer they pretty much beat me to the door.
Sincerely…lol…you must have recently written a serious letter!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Ooooh I should try those cheese wedges! my bf doesn’t like cheese so I can never make cheesy eggs… maybe stirring that in at the end is my solution! thank youuu!
Chrissy says
My mom and dog always walk up to the train station with me in the morning. She’ll come down from her throne to say hi to me in the morning, and then go back to bed until she hears me get up from the table after breakfast. 7:21 on the dot, she’s standing by the basket that has her leash, and wagging her tail! A total creature of habit!
Anne says
April’s routine:
Sleep on the guest bed all night and stay as long as possible until my husband tells her it’s time to go to day care.
Then decide that as we’re walking out the door is the perfect time to eat her breakfast in a leisurely fashion.
Elissa (@style_wire) says
I recently got my mom addicted to laughing cow cheese, will have to share this tidbit with her!

Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete says
Absolutely nothing can be accomplished until the cats are fed. They tail you around almost tripping you until you give in and feed them. Then they stop caring about you until 5pm and they need more food.
I also always feel the need to say I only have 2 cats. And that is no where near the amount needed to be a crazy cat lady.
Emily Butler says
I sometimes send out text to people (mostly family lol) and start out saying “Dear so and so” like a letter 🙂
The cheese in the eggs idea is perfect I’m going to have to give that a try! I usually like to sprinkle just a little bit of Mexican cheese on top my eggs, but sometimes that gets boring 🙁
My pets morning routine involves laying around, walking on the counters and tables, etc.. I have a cat, a very annoying cat that refuses to learn some manners!
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse says
Sadie has such a strong personality and I think that it so awesome! You can definitely tell that you guys love her 🙂
Heather @Fit n Cookies says
Wow I never thought to add the cheese at the end! I have tried it during cooking but it just didn’t do anything for me.
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
Dogs are so sweet and I can’t wait until I can have one again! Living in a high rise in the city isnt my ideal place to have a do though, so I suppose it will have to wait. I was able to teach the 6 and 7 am classes at my gym this morning so I am one step closer to actually having my own classes!
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out says
I have to try that granola! It looks so good!
Erin Cox says
I have two small dogs, and a few mornings out of the week my husband and I wake up for a 5am bootcamp class. When that alarm goes off they DON’T get out of bed, they look up to see if we are putting on workout clothes on. When this happens, they yawn, and roll back into a ball in their bed, and we tuck them in and tell them to sleep in until we get back, which is exactly what they do. They don’t budge until they hear us come back from the gym…. then it’s BREAKFAST time and they are wide awake. It’s the best. Pets are so awesome. 🙂
Kristy B. says
Aww, this is so cute!
Kimberly says
Our two kittens (Ozzy and Axel) take turns lying on our heads and pawing us in the face and then running away until we wake up. Then they follow us around meowing until we feed them, and after that it’s playtime. They wrestle with each other while we drink our coffee, then Ozzy waits for me outside the shower while Axel looks out the window. 🙂
Kristy B. says
Since my dog has a fenced in yard and a dog door, I will take him for his walk in the morning OR the evening, depending on my schedule for the day. If I get up and head towards the shower immediately, he knows he isn’t going for his walk so he doesn’t even bother getting out of bed. However, if I head toward the closet to get out my leggings/sweatshirt, he immediately jumps out of bed and starts running around like a wild man. It’s so funny how they get used to your routine and react appropriately.
