I opted out of a 5 a.m. workout this morning because I wanted to run outside and I don’t feel comfortable running around our new hometown before sunrise just yet. Once I know the lay of the land a little better this may change, but I’m all about safety first and figured a run once the sun was up was a smarter idea.
Unfortunately waiting for the sun to rise also meant more intense heat. Since I ate breakfast around 7:30 a.m., I wanted to give myself a few hours to digest so I wouldn’t cramp up on my run and didn’t head out until 10 a.m.
My plan to run five miles with Sadie quickly changed when I realized there was no shade on my running path and my iPod died one mile in.
Blazing sun + No distracting music = Subpar run
Sadie and I ran 3.5 miles before walking to complete slightly more than 4 miles.
When we arrived home, I gulped tons of water.
Phew.
Lunch
Lunch was a remix of yesterday’s dinner.
I used my semi-homemade marinara meat sauce to make a wrap which I served with carrot slices and Babybel cheese.
I know this may sound odd, but I love cold spaghetti sauce. I guess that’s probably not too surprising since I’m also a huge fan of cold oatmeal.
September
After I published my morning blog post, I realized it was September 1. I love the start of a new month because it seems like there is always something to look forward every month.
This month I am excited to…
- Head to Orlando for a special birthday celebration
- Start officially training for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon
- Decorate our new house and buy a flippin’ couch!
Question of the Afternoon
- What are you most looking forward to in September?

Easy one! My wedding is next week followed by a trip to Bora Bora!
But most Septembers I look forward to Halloween decorations, pumpkin everything, crunchy leaves, corn maizes and college football!
YAAAAAY!
I HATE when my iPod dies on me! Especially near the end of the workout when you need that extra push to get through it. Bummer that it happened to you!
Can you post your training plan for the half marathon? I want to start training for a half marathon as well! Thanks!
yes, i definitely will! here’s the training plan i used for the one i did last year: https://www.pbfingers.com/2010/06/17/my-half-marathon-training-plan/
I am looking to the monsoons in Mumbai finally being over! The rains are terrible June-end August, to the point that you think twice about leaving your home! So glad we are done with it for the year! Have a great day 🙂
my. last. long. run. in. this. miserable. hot. marathon. training. for. chicago.
come on sept 17th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck! i <3 chicago.
I understand the sub-par morning run– the heat gets me every time. However, 3.5miles is nothing to sneeze at, especially in the hot sun!!
And I also love cold spaghetti– and cold oatmeal, and cold pizza– things have more TASTE when they’re not piping hot!
My birthday next week and my stagette next weekend!! I can’t wait to see my mom and girlfriends for a night to remember 🙂 YAY!! It’s going to be a GREAT month!!
I love September because it’s my b-day month, but also our first wedding anniversary!(one week apart, thumbs down for combined present;)
I love cold spaghetti sauce, cold pizza, and cold chicken. It’s not odd, it’s what the cool kids like!
I feel ya on the run! I started at 6:30 in the 85 deg Texas heat and humidity. I was dead by the end of 5 miles. I had to take a cold shower the second I walked in the door.
I thought I was the only one who liked cold spaghetti sauce! Especially when it has meat and veggies in it. Plain cold marinara isn’t my fav.
One fall thing I want to do this year is go on a haunted hayride… bring back a middle school fav!
I agree about the heat. I live in Texas and we have had triple digit weather for 70+ days here. I’m looking forward to college football starting up, and I’m crossing my fingers that this baby will deliver early towards the end of September and not go to her due date in October.
I’m looking forward to the delivery of our new living room and dinning room furniture, celebrating my Mom’s 5 yr cancer free with the Cleveland Race for the Cure, and running the Akron relay with some college buddies! It’s going to be a great month!
so happy for you and your mom. that’s wonderful!
Oh, Pod, say it ain’t so!!
I think this September, I’m stoked on doing the 30 Day Shred (for REALZIES, this time, no playing!), getting back into volleyball, and (most importantly) tailgating my face off. TGICFS(TGI College football season.)
YES!! TAILGATING!!
I love cold meat sauce too! It’s great on a sweet roll too. Sweet and savory? Yum!
September is going to be great. My husbands birthday is in less than two weeks and we’re going to San Diego to celebrate. Love time with the honey!
September brings my 14th wedding anniversary! I am not a big one on celebrating but it is still a big deal.
Your lunch looks YUMMY and makes me want spaghetti.
The Kidless Kronicles
Wag More, Bark….
Just realized there was no blog talk Tuesday this week! I feel lost!
Any-who, September brings lots of fun things for me: Running my first half mary at the end of the month (technically October 1), labor day weekend festivites, got my braces off, & college football starts! Wa-hoo! =)
My road trip! I’m flying out tomorrow to Boston then roadtripping through Rhode Island, Maine, Canada, and who knows where else. 🙂 We do it every year and we hadn’t conquered the Northeast yet, so here goes!
I love September because that means it’s closer to Halloween, thanksgiving, and Christmas!
Running in the heat is so hard! I always need water with me. It’s in the 90s in Chicago today!
I love cold fries!
I’m most looking forward to finding out the gender of our baby (about 10 days to go)!!! : ) Also for cooler weather! I’m so sick of the heat and for a trip back to Minnesota to visit family, friends and celebrate a wedding!
so exciting!!
I’m totally a fan of cold spaghetti sauce too. My husband thinks I’m weird, so I’m glad I’m not alone! 🙂
Yes!! A new topic of discussion 🙂 This is keeping me entertained at school today haha. I am most looking forward to my birthday in the end of September!! Yay!
My trip to London!!! When I turned 25 my mom took me to Paris and now that I turned 30 she is taking me to London. I am so excited but the only downside is I am going to miss Keith so much!!!! (I know you can relate since you took an abroad trip with your family sans Ryan)
Are you a runner? What’s your goal time? That’s an awesome goal!
Looking forward to having my book manuscript done! and going on a weekend trip with my hubby.
I can totally relate on the cold marinara sauce thing! I love eating it cold as well. Guess we are weird together! 🙂
I have a family wedding this month in San Francisco and I’m super excited to get out of MD for a weekend.
I am looking forward to final farmer’s markets of summer and the start of fall festivals!!!
looking forward to my 4-year wedding anniversary tomorrow 🙂
You’re not weird, I love cold pasta sauce too. I actually had it for lunch, cause last night your dinner post inspired me to make some of my own!
having the ipod die near the beginning of the run is the worst! then you are just stuck carrying it for however many miles!
September is usually the nicest and warmest in San Diego .. I’m looking forward to some more beach time!
Oh and restaurant week. Best Week Ever.
I love the crisp, cool days, the in-season produce and PUMPKIN!!
Also? WORST THING EVER when your ipod dies on a run. Seriously. I can’t stand it.
That’s an easy question: FOOTBALL!! GO Ravens 😀
& I also LOVE cold marinara sauce too- better than hot. I will actually make pasta & then heat up some sauce on the stove for Craig & then I will just use the jar of sauce that I have in the fridge..so much better. Oh, and I don’t like hot oatmeal..only cold. I swear it must be something because we live it Florida, we crave all things cold 🙂
Happy for yall to be in your house!! Where are you couch shopping? We’re doing that too.
September starts off a very busy fall for me! Baby showers, weddings, bachelorette parties, but I’m excited! I’m also running my second have marathon on the 24th of this month!
Sept – I’m looking forward to some relief from this heat! Fall is my favorite time of year so I can’t wait to see the leaves change + the air get a little colder 🙂
I’m looking forward to my trip to Barcelona with my mum at the end of the month 🙂 Have you been? If so any restaurant recommendations? I hear the food market is amazing!
I am most looking forward to my FIRST SPRINT TRIATHLON!! woohoo!! It’s on September 11th in CT and I’ve been training for 3 months so I am super siked that it’s only 10 days away! Wish me luck 🙂
Julie do you guys have Conn’s in FL? I had seen it before…they sell electronics and appliances but I found out they sold furniture after looking at an ad in the Sunday paper! We bought our sectional there for $500!! And that included delivery! My husband even negotiated 🙂
I can’t wait for NFL and College FOOTBALL! Oh yeah, fantasy football too.
MY 21ST BIRTHDAY!!!!
18 more days. 18 more days. 18 more days. I can do this.
I’m a baby for my year in school, so nearly all of my friends have already turned 21 and MAN am I excited for that day to get here. I’m not a drinker, but it’ll be nice to actually have the option of going out with my friends instead of being the one person left at home.
I love cold oatmeal too! Perfect for extra hot days when you crave oaties. I am looking forward to scarfs, boots and pumpkin everything 🙂
I’m most looking forward to settling into a new “normal” in September.
I just got married in August and it was an awesome month full of fun but we overate, over-drank, etc. and we were pretty busy the whole month. I’m looking forward to relaxing and settling down now… and also starting to treat my body better and eat healthier!
Headed to Miami in like 3 hrs!!!
Oh yeah when my iPod dies I cannot run far at all… I’m completely dependent on music
September has too much in store to narrow it down! Honeycrisp apples, pumpkin picking, crunchy leaves, halloween decorations, chilly nights – ah it’s all too much! 🙂
I was at the gym the other day and my iPod died, but at least there were some light tunes in the background. Quiet run outside is the worst. All I seem to hear is myself gasping for air!
Ahhhh hahaha I’m definitely looking forward to more “fall-ish” air and nature! 😀 And several weddings I’m going to! Well actually, 2 weddings one day after another. Oh and…as long as the food ends up in my tummy, cold or hot are both good. 😛
I eat spaghetti sauce out of the fridge with a spoon.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone 🙂
I am looking forward to the start of both the Fall TV lineup and NFL/NCAA Football!!!!
2 weeks off from school!! I had a killer quarter and I’m excited for my mini vacations and having friends again! 🙂 I also love fall, so I cant wait for scarves and coats and BOOTS! yay!
I love cold spaghetti and cold pizza (okay, room temp. haha)!! I’m not a sizzling plate kind of girl.
I’m looking forward to lots of fun stuff in September! It’s my birthday next week, so hubby and I are going to Columbus this weekend for some shopping and dinner. Another weekend, we’re running a 10k. And I’m going to a friend’s baby shower … she’s having twins!! Plus, it’s college football season!
Yay for September! 🙂
Have a great night, Julie!
Moving into my new apartment! Saturday! Woo!
Dead iPods on runs is the WORST!
