Good morning! How are you guys doing today? I hope you had a great weekend and were able to catch up on some sleep.
After an eventful Saturday afternoon spent mountain biking, Ryan and I changed and met up with some friends for dinner.
I wore my latest StitchFix (<— referral link!) dress (along with an awkward smile) which I immediately fell in love with when it arrived in the mail on Thursday. It’s incredibly soft and comfortable and seems like a great fit for a casual dinner with friends or running errands around town.
I also ended up keeping a bracelet from the same package.
I love the chunky look of the bracelet and the pop of gold! (And yes, I need to update the date on my watch.)
Eight of us met at Blue Highway, a new pizza restaurant that we’ve heard a lot of great things about from several people.
Ryan and I arrived first and ordered appetizers for everyone to share, including a bruschetta and hummus plate and seasoned fries.
While we waited for our friends to arrive, our waitress asked if we wanted to sample some beer and when we said yes, she brought us two little plastic salad dressing cups of beer. I thought she brought us shots of warm butter at first!
Ha!
For my entrée, I started with a basic salad and then Ryan and I shared the Rustica Sicilian pizza.
Though the pizza was good, Ryan and I agreed that we prefer traditional pizza with lots of cheese, not just random dollops of cheese. Next time we’ll order thin crust and make sure there’s lots of cheese sprinkled on top!
Following our dinner, four of us went to the Charlie Horse, a local bar to see one of Ryan’s coworkers’ band play live.
They played lots of Tom Petty, so I loved it!
It was a great Saturday night!
On Sunday, Ryan and I woke up for the early church service before ordering breakfast at a local coffee shop and running errands around town.
Once we made it home, we spent hours cleaning our house. I got in the cleaning zone and kept going and going. I even organized our pantry! Woop! I love going into the week with a clean house. I am not one of those people who got the “clean gene” and loves cleaning, so when the “I need to clean” feeling hits, I roll with it.
I hope your Monday is off to a good start!
Questions of the Morning
- Do you enjoy cleaning?
I don’t like cleaning at all (dusting, vacuuming, etc.), but I don’t mind organizing. I actually semi-enjoyed organizing our pantry yesterday. And it looks rockin’ today!
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
Those fries & hummus look so good! The pizza, not so much. Cheese is where it’s at!
I’m a clean freak kind of person. I don’t enjoy dusting and vacuuming, but I enjoy getting my house cleaned up and tidy. Deep cleaning is not ever fun, but enjoying a tidy house is the best.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
I agree with you – a decent pizza needs a proper amount of cheese! When you can see a bunch of sauce that’s a warning sign. 🙂
I don’t like cleaning OR organizing but I always love the end result. Usually I’ll try and tackle a big list of things and do them super-fast so I don’t have to think about it. I still have a fair amount of unpacking and organizing to do since our move… and that was a year ago. Whoops. 🙂
How do you like StitchFix? What % of the things they send do you think you actually keep?
peanutbutterfingers says
I am really enjoying StitchFix! This is my third “fix” and it was the best one yet! They seem to realize that I like things that are less expensive. For a while the stuff I was getting was $75 and up and I don’t like to spend that much and specified this when I reviewed my packages. The bracelet in this post was $28 and high quality and the dress was around $40 I think, which I thought was a lot more reasonable. They take feedback on every package they send you, so I give detailed feedback on everything which I think helps me next package be even better! I actually liked everything in the current package, but sent three of the five things back (mostly b/c of overall fit). I actually loved a white lace dress they sent, but know I won’t wear it often enough for it to be worth it.
Rachel says
Love stitchfix! Would you think about doing blog posts with each of your stitchfixes?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
I would love to, but I just didn’t want people to get overwhelmed with it! You’re not the first person to ask, so I’ll definitely consider it for the future!
Lexie says
Yes. I would love to read more about your stitch fix experience! I am thinking about signing up and trying to get my sister to sign up too, but afraid everything is going to be very expensive.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
My mum is a natural born clean freak so I grew up with a very clean house and when our apartment is clean I just feel better! We had friends over on Saturday night so needless to say our apartment is very clean for once 🙂
Sounds like a great weekend. I wish Stitch Fix shipped to Australia as they have some great stuff. Love the bracelet you got.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
When I have a good few free hours to do it I love it!!! It’s like a workout with the reward of having a sparkling home at the end of it all!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Ugh, you just reminded me my pantry is in desperate need of a cleaning. But I don’t wanna!! *stomps foot* 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
I can’t remember the last time I cleaned ours before this weekend! Good luck to you!! 🙂
James says
I don’t even want to think about the cleaning I have to do when I get home from Chicago. AH. Pretty sure I just shoved my laundry basket in the closet and told myself it didn’t really exist….whoops 🙂
Rachel @ Health My Lifestyle says
That pizza doesn’t even look like it has cheese! But I’m a fan of the pizza sauce more than cheese. By the way, that dress is so pretty!
I think we’re opposite when it comes to cleaning. I’m a clean freak and need every place spotless. But I’m okay if it’s unorganized, as long as it’s clean. Usually after a week or two of clutter, it finally gets to me and I organize.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness says
Your French fries look good! I love pizza that has lots and lots of cheese 🙂 cleaning is not at all one of my favorite activities. I never enjoy soon it but I always love having a clean house so it almost makes it worth it.
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
I LOVE to organize! Hate to clean! Btw, is that garlic mayo with those fries?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
horseradish!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I have to be in the mood to clean. Sometimes I get in moods where I will all the sudden clean the entire house – but those don’t happen often 😉
Dana says
that’s such a good feeling tho, isn’t it? 😉
Livi says
I love organizing and putting my things away but….lose all my steam when it comes to anything else!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I hate cleaning but it has to be done. I prefer to vaccum and organize things. I’m very good at organizing 🙂
LeAnne says
I’m the same way! Once I get STARTED cleaning…it’s not so bad. But getting the motivation – that’s tough!
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says
I love the dress!! 🙂 As far as cleaning, I love to keep things clean so I am always wiping down and sanitizing but as far as doing a BIG clean…those don’t happen quite as often so I am with you, when I get “in the mood” to deep clean I really go for it!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Cleaning? Well, I like having a clean house so it’s a necessary evil. After I started working out in the mornings, somehow I became inspired to do my cleaning on Thursday mornings, which is a rest day. Cleaning your house first thing in the morning has the same perks as working out in the morning: no excuse to miss it and it puts you in a good place for the rest of the day.
Lisa says
I actually am a huge sucker for cleaning. The worst part is getting started but after that I’m good to go and could clean for hours. Sounds so fun, right.
Looks like a great weekend! I like the dress, super cute for Fall.
Katie says
I like a clean house and do some sort of cleaning most weekends. However, the majority of my cleaning time is spent in the kitchen. I need a self-cleaning kitchen.
Jackie Macharsky says
I like organizing and cleaning. Especially the feeling o finishing it!
Alex A says
I agree. I do not like cleaning. Organizing is fun sometimes, if it is a small project. We have a spare bedroom full of junk that really needs to be organized… I’ve been putting it off because it is such a big project.
Dana says
You are gorgeous, girl! Those fries…yum! I tend to be a bit of a clean freak. Bathrooms are on the very bottom of my list, however. I will spot clean throughout the week but it takes a while to reallllllly clear everything out of the room and get down and dirty to clean them! I especially hate cleaning the shower! Vacuuming is good cardio. 😉
Linz @ Itz Linz says
ew i don’t like cleaning at all lol i don’t mind laundry but anything else ugh! we have a maid come to our house once a month and itz seriously the best investment ever!! (i swear we’re not slobs… itz just nice to do the work we don’t want to!) 🙂
Becky @ Olives n Wine says
I think I’m just the opposite of you on the cleaning spectrum! I love cleaning but hate organizing things 🙂
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
I have a love hate relationship with cleaning. Sometimes I love to do it and other times its such a pain. Once I get cleaning I usually find it calming. I adore that dress, I also love the necklace you are wearing!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
I love cleaning! I just like having everything clean and in order, so I’m always cleaning. Also, my dog sheds like a maniac so I feel like I vacuum every single day. I love that dress! I’ve been thinking about signing up for StitchFix because I haven’t heard one bad thing about it!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Sounds like a fun Saturday night!
I’m not the best at maintaining a cleaning schedule — but once I get into cleaning I’m alright. I just need a kick in the pants to get going, you know? 🙂
Amanda says
I love your hair curly! How do you get it looking so perfect? Do you use a curling wand? My hair never seems to hold a curl!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
I usually curl it with a straightener & previously posted a tutorial video here: https://www.pbfingers.com/2010/10/16/how-to-curl-your-hair-with-a-straightener-video/ But my hair in this post was actually curled with a curling iron – a first for me since my hair rarely holds curl with a curling iron. I followed this YouTube tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18u1MqdEozc
Alexa says
speaking of your hair.. haha i was looking back at some of your older posts and i was wondering how you get your hair cut (like what do you tell the hairdresser). in this post, https://www.pbfingers.com/2011/02/12/our-valentines-day/, it looks so great! exactly what im going for
Thanks in advance!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
Thanks! I actually just get it cut at Great Clips. They just cut straight across the back and angle the sides. 🙂
Alexa says
So you don’t even ask for long layers or anything? Well anyway, whatever you’re doing keep doing it, looks great haha! I love your blog by the way. I now love overnight oats, I just read all your wedding recap posts (so amazing and full of love), and I also hope to use your travel posts to help me plan an Ireland or Switzerland/Italy trip with my boyfriend 🙂
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
I agree! Pizza needs to have cheese all over it. Love that dress! Looks super comfy but is super cute. I don’t particularly like cleaning, but I’m the same way, when I start I just roll with it. I’m not going to stop until I clean it all. I move pretty fast too, mainly because I don’t want to do it, so the quicker I get it done, the better 🙂
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
Sounds like a great Saturday. Riley and I had a date night this weekend too! I definitely am a neat-freak and clean all the time. I think it’s more of an OCD thing than actually ENJOYING to clean, haha. I just can’t relax unless I have a clean house!
Amanda says
I enjoy the state of things being clean…if only they would stay that way!
Ashley @ Life and Fitness says
Cleaning is my least favorite chore! I don’t understand how people “enjoy” it haha.
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
I absolutely hate cleaning, but I still manage to get that “need to clean feeling” quite often, which I suppose is a good thing. Sounds like a great weekend!
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
I LOVE YOUR WATCH. Oh my gosh, I need to go watch shopping or something! I have to be in the right mood to clean. Sometimes I really enjoy it and sometimes I just want to wait and see if it will clean itself up 😉
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I don’t enjoy cleaning, but now that I’m home full-time with my baby, I feel like I should clean at least a little every day. So I try to clean a room (or two) a day, Monday through Friday. I’m not perfect about it, though! 😉
Lauren says
At first, I thought there was a grape in the hummus and Ryan put it there to do a photo bomb… Then, I realized it was an olive. LOL I’m definitely not a cleaner, but once I start cleaning something the WHOLE thing has to be cleaned. I can’t just work on a section of a room and save something else for later or I never feel like it’s fully cleaned up!
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake says
Absolutely love the dresss! And same here with pizza, whats the point of eating it if it doesn’t have lots of cheese!!! Need the cheese 🙂
Omg, love me some Tom Petty
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
I HATE cleaning! I was just saying the other day… I really need to learn how to deep clean a house (before we move into our new huge one) because I never do the nitty gritty stuff (like scrubbing the base boards and other things that one should do every once in a while)!
Brittany @ proteinandpumps says
LOVE your hair! So pretty! Cleaning is like running to me. I dread it but always feel great afterwards.
Jan Klein says
Oh Girl! I am the worst at cleaning! I despise it but always love the end result. reminds me that there are a stack of dishes in the sink that need to be washed. Le sigh…
Lisa says
Congrats on your foray into mountain biking, though I’m not sure how often you’ve tried it before. Mountain biking is my exercise of choice and we have a decent amount of good trail options in Virginia. If your husband ever ventures to West Virginia, he should check out Snowshoe, WV for downhill trails in the summertime. Good stuff.
Jess @ Just Call Me Janks says
I’m like you – when I’m in the ‘cleaning mode,’ everyone should watch out! It’s satisfying to see things sparkling (however little of time that may be) and it’s even better when it helps start your week. Congrats!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I love Tom Petty! My best friend LOVES him (way more than I do) and she invited me with her family to watch a Tom Petty concert from a box seat in Kansas City back when we were in High School, it was so much fun!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
That’s AWESOME!
Kelley Fernbacher says
Cute outfit! I have received two stitch fixes- didn’t love the first one but loved the second one had a lot of great items!
I LOVE your necklace in this post – where is it from?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
Thanks! I got it at the Banana Republic Outlet a few years ago.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I actually don’t mind cleaning, but I certainly need to be in the mood to do it. I DO love a clean house so I suppose that helps motivate me to clean. There are, of course, certain chores that I absolutely despise – cleaning the shower and mopping are the top ones.
Glad you guys had a great weekend!!
melanie says
I like to dust and sweep but hate to organize…lol. We need to team up!
Aurora says
I feel the same way about cleaning. I don’t love to do it, but I love when things are clean!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
I don’t like to clean, but I LOVE a clean house! I am in serious need of a kitchen organization day!
The more I see Stitch Fix, the more I think I’m going to have to try it! I live in a smaller town too, without as many stores!
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
Your hair looks so cute Julie! I love it!
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind says
I LOVE cleaning but organizing can really annoy me if I’m not in the mood. I guess it requires too much brain power?
Britt @ Fit Fit Britt Britt says
Cleaning?! Hah! I love the finished result, but hate actually doing it! I much prefer organizing… I reorganize my fridge, pantry and closet at least once a month, haha!
Kristen says
I love your outfit. Looks like a great night! I actually do like cleaning but with a toddler I don’t have the time I once did to spend on it and he’s just like a little tornado messing it up again anyway lol!
