When it comes to my morning meal, I seem to get super excited about one specific breakfast and eat it over and over again until, one day, I try something new and forget about my one-time favorites.
If you’ve been a PBF reader for a while now, you may remember my obsession with the following breakfasts:
- Egg, jelly and cheese breakfast sandwiches
- Yogurt bowls
- Overnight oats
- Smoothies
- Protein pancakes
- Baked oatmeal
- Peanut butter and banana sandwiches
Just typing up that list makes me want to bring many of those meals back into regular rotation. Yum!
Another delicious breakfast favorite I forgot about? Oatless oatmeal!
I made a bowl of the oatless oatmeal this morning and topped it with some frozen blueberries that defrosted in no time at all.
While I prepared my breakfast, I also snacked on a handful of roasted sea salt almonds.
A hot mug of chocolate raspberry kiss coffee rounded out the meal!
Today is a busy one for me. Lots of work to do and I’m hoping to have a chance to complete an afternoon workout with one of my coworkers today, too!
Enjoy your Tuesday!
(I figured my fellow Geico camel-loving friends would like that one.)
See ya after lunch!
Questions of the Morning
- What is one thing you used to make for breakfast all the time that you haven’t made in a while?
- What is your go-to breakfast right now?
Linz @ Itz Linz says
oatless oatmeal?? must check that out! i’m actually on an oatmeal kick right now. yesterday was coconut cookie dough oatmeal and this morning was my attempt at birthday cake oatmeal… but that needs some tweaking before i post the recipe! 🙂
Catie & Mangoes Margarita says
Yum, as a fan of overnight oats I’m curious to try these oatless oats! I used to make overnight oats in college after being inspired from muesli when I studied abroad (similar consistency but muesli is a little more pricey than oats!) Lately I’ve been loving paleo banana bread muffins I make ahead every weekend. I recently posted a link in my blog if anyone’s looking for an easy + filling muffin!
Julie says
Muesli is so ridiculously good.
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
I used to be a HUGE toast person for breakfast. I ate toast every single day for years! Now I like to switch up my breakfasts. Right now I’m on a baked apple cinnamon quinoa kick!
skigirl0891 says
Go to breakfast right now is a version of overnight oats, but with cooked steel cut oats, chia seeds, milk and fage with different flavors!! Yum! On the flavor rotation so far, good old peanut butter and banana, raspberry, and ‘carrot cake’. Refreshing and delish.
Also my all time fav that I’ve brought back latele, the egg sammie!!! Butternut bread with a runny fried or pached egg in the middle, yowza!
Now I must go read your post about the egg jelly and cheese sammie, intrigued 🙂
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Mmm I love oatmeal but that NOatmeal looks great! I’ll have to try it as an alternative! 🙂
Chrissy @pinkpolishandrunningshoes says
My go-to breakfast is Kashi cereal. I’m guilty of doing repeat lunches. I get obsessed with one thing (right now it’s almond butter sandwiches) and then eat it until I get sick of it and find something new.
Amanda says
Chocolate raspberry kiss coffee sounds amazing! I’ve been in a rut of cinnamon raisin toast with pb and sliced pear or banana on top. Yum!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Breakfast is for reals, the BEST meal of the day! Without a doubt 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I’m with you on the breakfast phase thing… Some of my past breakfast phases: overnight oats, “custard oats”, banana/PB/chia seed/honey on toast, and protein pancakes. My current breakfast phase that I haven’t been able to shake for MONTHS is Gina’s Protein Breakfast Cereal. It’s just so yummy, filling, and easy!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I love that camel! Haha Happy Tuesday!
Rachel @ Fairietale Designs says
For years, breakfast was a bagel with cream cheese and a cup of tea. Then I went through a long phase where I skipped breakfast. Bad, I know. Now I’m back on the breakfast train and my go to is yogurt (I mix half Greek, half regular to get the taste and consistency I really like) topped with something crunchy, and some sort of carb with a little cream cheese or almond butter.
Ali says
Ha I love the Geico commercials! I have been eating my weight in Van’s gluten free waffles lately.
Kristy @ Kristy's Health Revolution says
I used to be all about sweet breakfasts, but lately I’ve been on a savory breakfast kick — whatever I had for dinner with a fried egg on top! Ha!
I’m dying to see photos from Lesley and Ross’ wedding!!!
Julie says
I REALLY hope to have them soon! I didn’t take nearly enough to share a recap so I am anxiously waiting on the pictures from their photographer. Hopefully I’ll have something soon!
Katie says
Egg casserole or quiche
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Right now I alternate between oatmeal or a two-ingredient pancake but I used to swear by an English muffin with peanut butter for years without fail. I couldn’t go without it for breakfast yet now can’t recall the last time I had it!
Katherine says
I actually made a breakfast that I haven’t made in a while this morning. Whole wheat toast, almond butter topped with banana and cinnamon! I am usually just cereal in the morning
Katie says
Our breakfast lists are about the same! I haven’t had a smoothie in a while for breakfast since it’s been sooo cold here in Wisco! Lately I have been making a big batch of protein pancakes on sunday night to last me throughout the week 🙂
Kim @ FITsique says
I am the SAME exact way! I have been eating the SAME thing for breakfast for maybe the last 3 months lol. I always have a turkey bacon and spinach egg white omelet with a piece of toast with coconut oil and cinnamon on the side!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust says
Breakfast would definitely have to be my most routine meal of the day. I always have a cub of coffee (with cream), a Chobani yogurt, and a banana with peanut butter. I typically work out right after I eat breakfast so I don’t like feeling too full or having something in my stomach that will make it upset. I will admit that I branch out on the weekends with egg scrambles and omelets.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Haha I remember all those breakfast obsessions! Right now I’m eating overnight oats every morning. I have to bring my breakfast to work (and pack it on Sunday if I can), so that’s the easiest option I’ve come up with!
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
I do the same thing! I recently went through a phase where I ate grapefruit and PB toast everyday. Before that it was blueberry oatmeal!
Kate says
I love your baked oatmeal with Greek yogurt- this also just reminded me of something I used to make all the time, but haven’ t in a while! This morning I had a little bit of FANNEtastic Food’s perfect microwaveable banana oatmeal and a Carrots ‘n’ Cake’s two-ingredient pancake!! Blogs are really the best places to get breakfast ideas!
Abby says
Since my husband and I are doing Paleo/Whole 30 for the month of March, we have been rotating between sweet potato (with some green onions and bacon mixed in) & topped with a fried egg OR big spinach smoothies with half an avocado thrown in there. I do miss oatmeal though, so I will have to try out this non-oatmeal oatmeal 🙂
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
I used to make smoothies all the time, but I’ve been on a yogurt kick for the past few months!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
I used to make smoothies all the time, but I’ve been on a yogurt kick for the past few months!
Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} says
I use to always make 2 ingredient pancakes for breakfast and then got out of the habit. I will make them once in a blue moon because I am loving eggs in the morning! They fill me up for the full morning and the only breakfast that my stomach is not growling a few hours after I eat! 🙂
Brynn says
I am the exact opposite; I eat something different every single day. When I have to eat the same thing I get super bored so I change it up and rotate through all of my favorites.
Livi says
I used to be all about oats but now that i’m gluten free, it’s harder to find them! I stick with eggs, veggies, and avocado now!
Jenna says
You had me hooked on those egg, jelly and cheese breakfast sandwiches for months! I go through breakfast phases too, oatmeal, egg quiches in the muffin tins, pnut butter and banana on english muffins with cinnamon….right now its cereal with bananas or strawberries on top, yum!
Jackie says
Haha I love that camel meme!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I used to make smoothies all the time but have fallen off that train recently. I need to start making them again!
Diana says
I used to have an egg-white omelet every single day in college – since becoming vegan after college, I now have oatmeal + peanut butter every single day. It’s been almost 5 years – I guess I’m not much of one for variety!
Molly Rose says
I remember your egg and jelly sandwiches phase… I definitely gave it a try once and loved it! My husband was completely grossed out, but I pressed on like the blog-follower I am 😉 Your breakfast’s are always interesting, but turn out winners!
Cara's Healthy Cravings says
Breakfast this morning was banana and strawberry oats topped with PB, it’s my go-to breakie that never disappoints!
Sara says
I had oatless oatmeal myself this morning. In fact I’ve been on quite the kick, having it almost everyday for a couple of months. It is the only breakfast lately that keeps me full for hours and feeling satiated all day!
Krystal @ Krystal's Korner says
I’ve never heard of oatless oatmeal. I love oatmeal so I’m going to have to try this!
Becky@TheSavedRunner says
These “oats” look delicious! Lately my breakfast of choice has been eggs cooked with lots of vegetables with some quinoa or sweet potato. Then a banana on the side, often with peanut butter. 🙂
Ashley Pitt @ A Lady Goes West says
Overnight oats is my go-to. I learned about it from you and have been eating it forever! Thanks for the tip!
Julie says
Yay!
Britt says
This may be a dumb question, but are you supposed to HEAT overnight oats in the morning? Seems like it would be gross cold, but every recipe I read neglects to mention in they should be warmed up or not.
Julie says
I like mind cold! I never heat them. 🙂
Ashley @ Broccoli Blog says
I had a yogurt bowl phase (usually summertime) and most recently I was eating apple cinnamon oatmeal every day but lately I’ve been making paleo pancakes every morning.
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
I used to eat yogurt and berries every morning but got burnt out in it. Now it’s scrambled egg whites and oatmeal with fresh berries.
Annette@FitnessPerks says
All your breakfasts sound so yummy! I did the egg/jam/cheese thing for awhile too. Right now it’s oatmeal or toast & eggs for me!
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
So glad you liked that recipe!! I actually haven’t made it in ages either… Lately I’ve been on a regular oatmeal kick, or peanut butter toast.
PS. Love that Geico camel!
Dana @ Conscious Kitchen Blog says
I go through the same breakfast phases! I’ve been trying to mix it up a little more lately. Eating a new breakfast makes the morning a little more exciting for me.
Jenn@ Mark My Miles! says
I am a “repeat offender” as well when it comes to meals. Lately, our dinners have been stuck on repeat. Meat sauce and spaghetti. Cheap, easy and yummy!
Jen @ impossible jen says
when it’s cold out i make oatmeal with an apple cut up in it. if you put the apple in with the oatmeal while it’s cooking it gets soft and the juice sweetens up the oatmeal.
right now i’m grabbing what ever is in the break room. that single cup cinnamon toast crunch is kinda calling my name.
Abi@AbsofSteel says
I used to make single serving pancakes all the time. Lately I’ve been switching between oat and yogurt bowls and peanut butter and oats. Basically I’m stuck on anything with raw oats in a bowl.
Emily says
I am the biggest breakfast lover around! I cannot get enough of cereal, pancakes, or eggs! Right now though I am stuck on breakfast smoothies! They are so perfect for me to grab quickly on my way to work in the morning (although my coworkers and patients don’t particularly like to look at the green goo in my smoothie cup!) On Saturdays and Sundays though you better believe I am making oatmeal pancakes, waffles, or eggs!
Emily says
Oh have you ever tried peanut butter on your pancakes? I used to do it all the time when I was a kid it’s amazeballs!
Julie says
Yes! So delicious!
Ashley says
Peanut butter toast or bagels is always a favorite of mine. So simple, but SO good.
Julie says
Agreed!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black says
I’m on and off with green smoothies. Some weeks I’m all about them and other weeks they don’t sound good at all! I’ve been hooked on oatmeal for basically this whole winter semester. Oatless oatmeal sounds interesting!
