My day has been dominated by cake!
At work today leftover birthday cake found its way onto a plate in front of me a couple of times (2? 3? Who’s counting?)…
Yes, that would be a corner piece for maximum icing.
Lunch
In between servings of cake, I managed to eat a nutritious lunch.
I made a roasted veggie salad comprised of roasted curried cauliflower and carrots…
Topped with chicken salad (chicken + light Miracle Whip + carrots)…
All together naaaw…
Thank goodness veggies found their way into my lunch because they were sparse in my dinner.
Dinner
Dinner this evening came together in a flash!
Is there anything easier than cooking up a big bowl of pasta?
Ryan had to work a little late tonight, so I made us pasta bowls using Barilla whole grain rotini, marinara sauce and chicken.
While I was prepping the pasta, I got a call from Ryan.
“I have a treat for you!”
“Is it edible?”
“Yes.”
“Is it sweet?”
“Yes.”
“Awesome.”
Check out the goods!
A chocolate peanut butter cupcake from Sugar Mama’s Bake Shoppe in Clermont.
Holy peanut butter! The icing tasted like super thick and extra sweet peanut butter. It was so good that I rubbed it all over my face. No, I’m obviously kidding. Don’t be silly! I wouldn’t put that stuff anywhere but my mouth.
With the excessive cake consumption that has occurred in the past two days, I’ve realized something about myself. I don’t think cake is all that great. I think I really just eat cake for the icing (with the exception of red velvet cake because that stuff is the jam). (See point #3 of Hyperbole and a Half’s breakdown for my exact thoughts on cake and icing.)
It’s very rare for me to find cake that I think even comes close to the deliciousness of icing. But, when it does, then the cake + icing combo tastes like a little slice of heaven.
I’m off to try to see if I can find any remaining icing on that lil’ cupcake liner!
(P.S. The Fashion page was updated this afternoon!)
I’m with you, I’m usually all about the icing, especially if it’s chocolate or cream cheese frosting. However, that cupcake looks insane! I’d eat it in under a minute 🙂
That cupcake looks so freaking good!!! Wow!!!!
OMG !! That link you shared about pie vs cake had me rolling!!! was too good =) thanks for posting!
That cupcake looks so pretty!!! What a good husband! 🙂
I don’t particularly like cake all that munch unless it’s a cupcake and it has buttercream frosting on it. Cake is at the bottom of my dessert list, pretty much anything else will get chosen over a piece of cake.
I had cake yesterday too! However, I surprised myself finished up the day with a salad for dinner. I guess it all balances out.
But usually, once I have an “unhealthy” choice, I continue to eat unhealthy for the rest of the day. Do you have any tips on how to “feel better” or “turn it around” after having an unhealthy meal or dessert mid-day?
“It was so good that I rubbed it all over my face. No, I’m obviously kidding. Don’t be silly! I wouldn’t put that stuff anywhere but my mouth.”
That’s what she said.
That cupcake looks like the best cupcake ever!!! Chocolate peanut butter is the best combination. Yum! 🙂
We would be a good cake pair – I HATE the icing and just eat the cake part!
i am so into icing! i like really good cake but most of the time, the icing is where it’s at! in college my friends and i would buy tubs of icing and just eat that…. whoops! now i just get mini donuts at restaurants and eat those with their hot icing…heaven!
I am an icing girl, too! I love your meals today! 🙂
cheesecake > pie > cake
That cupcake looks sooooooo good!
Frosting is the only way to go!!!! I can eat that stuff straight from carton 🙂 Publix also sells their frosting/icing so you can use it to frost your own cakes…or eat it on its own 🙂
Oh my god that cupcake looks good! My hubby and I are vacationing in Sarasota for the next week and a half, PLEASE PLEASE tell me this cupcake shop is within like a 30 minute drive…
I love cake and cupcakes! We had a birthday in our office yesterday too but we got doughnuts from Doughnut Plant here in NYC. Apparently doughnuts are the new cupcakes!
I feel the same way about cake (or icing, I should say). I actually won’t eat cake if I can’t have the corner piece. I suppose that’s strange, but it stops me from eating cake that I don’t really want 🙂
for the frosting lover. 🙂 just saw this on foodgawker:

…the graham crackers make it healthy, right?
I attended a wedding this last summer and they had made homemade pistachio cupcakes with pistachio cream cheese frosting. It was the moistest, densest, yummiest thing I ever ate. The frosting was probably the absolute best frosting I have EVER had too. But that is the only time the cake has held it’s own with the frosting, i was the happiest girl in the world that day 🙂
I actually really love cake. I couldn’t eat it without frosting, but as long as it is super moist it is delicious!!
Oh dear, that cupcake looks yum! I get my hair done @ Totally Unique right across from that bakery! I will definitely have to stop in there next time I’m in Clermont and get a yummy cupcake!!! ( I grew up in Clermont, went to school there, and lived there most of my life).
That cupcake looks insane. Reminds me of the best one I’ve ever had – a reese cupcake from Jilly’s in St. Louis. Not too sweet..just perfect!
