The calm before the storm.
I just love it.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the rain. Maybe it’s because I’m an April baby? Rain soothes me and relaxes me and makes me want to curl up under the covers with a good book.
Today’s storm rolled in as I was teaching water fitness. We lucked out and made it through the entire class without hearing any thunder or seeing any lightning, but about five minutes after the class concluded, the dark clouds opened up and it started pouring. It rains pretty much ever single day in the summer in Florida, but the storms usually only last an hour or two. Today’s storm seems to be holding on for a little longer than usual which has Sadie in a tizzy.
My poor little scaredy dog.
Work today went well and I spent an hour or so with my boss learning how to teach spinning. I may be picking up some spin classes in the future and would like to take a full-day certification course, but going over the basics today was helpful.
Lunch
At lunchtime today, I quickly ran to Subway and ordered a chopped club salad that I ate with a bag of harvest cheddar Sun Chips.
I’ve always preferred sweet over salty and have never been a huge chip person (unless you put salsa or guacamole in front of me), but cheddar Sun Chips are a weakness of mine! My friend Kristen used to pack them in her lunch in elementary school and I remember trading her something from my lunch so I could have her chips on several occasions. They take me back!
Time to do a load of laundry. It’s Friiiday tomorrow!
Question of the Afternoon
- When it comes to snacks, do you prefer sweet or salty foods?
I’m a sweets girl all the way!
Stephanie says
I prefer salty snacks, but with being pregnant, I am all about the sweet!
Erika @ fortheloveofpeanutbutter says
I haven’t been eating many chips lately but cheddar Sunchips sound deeeelish right now! I go back and forth between sweet and salty. After I eat something salty/savory, I usually like to follow it up with something sweet.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
YES! I totally agree with you on the chips thing. I’m not typically a chips person, but those Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips get me every doggone time! 😉
Very exciting that you could be teaching spin! I’d love to teach a spin class someday.
Robyn @ Life is Better Red says
Harvest Cheddar are the best!
Salty most of the time, but sour-sweet (like sour candies) is a great treat too!
Taylor @ Single-tracked Mind says
How about salty and sweet? Like chocolate covered pretzels…yum
Megan (The Lyons' Share) says
80% of the time, I’m a sweet girl, but sometimes you just gotta have that salt! Have you tried cheddar popchips, cheddar Special K chips, or “cheesy” kale chips? All good alternatives that will satisfy the cheesy, salty craving when you just can’t shake it!
Jackie Macharsky says
I love salty!!!!
Nikki @ Grab Your Kicks says
I’m a sweets girl too. I like adding fruit to my yogurt, froyo, or smoothies to sweeten them up.
Natalie Wolfe says
So funny…for some reason those cheddar Sun Chips are the only chips I really like either. That and tortilla chips. Rain is the best! I love our big rolling thunder Texas storms 🙂
Karen from www.fabinyour40s.com says
Definitely salt! I would take chips over cookies any day. Neither one is great for you but i can’t resist salt. Pizza is also a weakness; greasy and salty. YUM
Johanna B says
I alternate sweet and salty. Always have.
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Oooh tough choice!!! It totally depends on my mood I’d say. BUT, one of my favorite ways to kill two birds with one stone are pretzel rolos 🙂 Just on a cookie sheet lay out a bunch of mini pretzals or pretzal squares, then melt a rolo on top of each in the oven for like 5 minutes, then put a pecan on top right of the chocolate right when they come out of the oven. HEAVEN, and you’ve taken care of your salty AND sweet craving 🙂
Paige says
I have never liked rolos, but I tried this snack one day without knowing the chocolate part was rolos, and OH MY GOD! Delicious! I’ve never made them, but you make it sound so easy that I might have to!
Jessica @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad says
I have a total sweet tooth that never seems to go away.
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
I definitely usually prefer sweet foods as well! In particular, I prefer sweet breakfasts. I rarely have things like eggs or sausage for breakfast–I save those for lunch 🙂
What I find funny about Florida rain is when you’re driving on the highway, there can be torrents for a couple minutes, and then absolutely no rain the next few minutes. And the cycle repeats over and over, haha.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
sweet AND salty! chocolate covered pretzels are my favorite!
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
It tends to be salty. Just simple crusty warm brad and butter would suit me!
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
Ha ha! Bread, but Brad’s pretty good, too!
Karen R @www.fabinyour40s.com says
So long as Brad isn’t crusty. LOL
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
I love salty and crunch all the way! I have a MAJOR weakness for chips, especially BBQ ones!
Becky says
I almost always prefer salty! Every once in a while I prefer sweets, but not often. I think it’s because my mom isn’t a sweet person, so growing up we didn’t have sweets much around the house, but we had a lot of salty snack foods!
carolyn says
I go for sweets almost all the time, but if someone offers me sunchips I might take those over sugar. It might just be my weird taste buds, but sunchips have a nice hint of sweetness
Ashley @ BrocBlog says
I always have my afternoon chocolate craving. Sometimes I hold out but I just love chocolate
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I’m all about the sweet things. I have a huge sweet tooth!

Missy says
I have never ordered a salad at Subway but that looks amazing and very delicious! May have to try one very soon!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
sweet or salty depends on my mood, but I usually like a combo. And I’m no April baby (October) but I LOVE rainstorms! Especially big thunderstorms.
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake says
I love sweet snacks but you can’t beat salty…so I usually go for something like coconut oil homemade popcorn sea salt. YUM!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Sun Chips are definitely my favorite kind of chip! I haven’t tried the salads from Subway yet, but it looks delicious. I’m totally a sweets girl!
Angela @ Health's Angel says
I always have pumpkin seeds and raisins as a snack- I love the salty sweet combo. Also, just the other day I discovered the goodness that is Snapea crisps. DELICIOUS and perfectly salty. I guess I’ve been about salty lately!?
Maria@TheBrooklynFig says
That’s so cool that you’ll be teaching spinning! Hope you’ll tell us all about the certification course cause I’ve thought of doing it.
I’m def a sweets gal too- got such a sweet tooth, wish I didn’t but oh well!
Emily says
Salty, always. Nachos, popcorn…. the BEST!
Lindsay says
I never met a sweet snack I didn’t like 🙂 Ok, that’s a lie. But my favorite is a combo: trail mix. The sweet/salty raisins are my weakness.
Rachel @ Health My Lifestyle says
I like salty snacks. If it’s sweet, it’s dessert to me. Which I’m also ok with. One of my favorite salty snacks is those Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips dipped into Smooth Ranch Dip. It’s soooo good!
James says
Oh I’m such a sucker for rainy days every once in a while too…its just a good excuse to stay in the pjs all day ha
Peter says
Salty for sure. Thing is though, when I don’t drink beer, I crave sweet things. Interesting. it must be the sugar in the beer that keeps me going. Im always making cheese platters, love them and I highly recommend a great selection of cheeses and red wine. Awesome.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Sweets. Always sweets.
Mari @ Living With Purpose says
We had about the same weather this morning here in Wisconsin too. I absolutely love it. Bring on the storms!
I would definitely say I’m a salty snack person. I’m right there with ya on the salsa and guacamole. Get’s me every time. My real weakness: popcorn.
Megan says
I’m definitely a sweet-tooth. For me, the dessert makes the meal!
Jen @ Chocolate Chips & Tricep Dips says
I’m definitely a sweet girl, too! And I used to like the rain as well until this year. We have had SO much rain. Literally, we could go without a drop of rain for the rest of the year, and we would still have a surplus for the annual average. It’s starting to drive me crazy!
jan says
Oh girl! I am salty all the way! maybe just a smidge of sweet & then back to salty.
Farah @ Fabulously Farah says
Definitely sweets. Although a random craving for salty will sometimes appear out of nowhere!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says
YOu know I’m a sweets lover myself but definitely have a weakness for cheddar sun chips as well.
Missy @ Life After Morning Coffee says
Sweet, for sure!
I’m the exact same way with rain… I love it when it rains right as your crawling into bed so you can fall asleep to the sound of rain drops 🙂
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
I’m definitely more of a salty snacker all the way! I love my cheese and dips but I do have a soft spot for a little something sweet especially after dinner.
Alex A says
For me it just depends on my mood. Or I like a combo snack. I really like the peanut butter chia seed protein bites that I blogged about last week!!! Those were super good and easy to make.
Christine @ Gotta Eat Green says
I’m all about the sweets!! I try to limit myself but sometimes the cravings are just too strong!
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
mmmm I LOVE Subway salads. They have always been a staple for me if I wanted something quick, easy and healthy.
I am definitely a savory girl when it comes to snacks. Don’t get me wrong – I love sweets, but I’d take a hunk of cheese over chocolate every time.
Candice @ Candy's Daily Dish says
I love the rain too. Especially on Sunday afternoon.
I love both sweet and salty but never together. I LOVE chocolate but some days I could eat an entire bag of Ruffles chips…..YUMMMMM. I may have to work out double today because now I’m craving chips 🙂
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom says
I love both sweet and salty. Lately I’ve just been wanting pretzels with hummus. If I’m eating salty, it’s gotta have a really nice crunch to it!
