This morning I busted out my griddle to fry up the egg white I used in my breakfast bagelwich. I simultaneously cooked another egg white to use in a sandwich for lunch today!
The egg was good, but the hummus made the sandwich.
I made my egg white sandwich by topping a honey wheat sandwich thin with roasted red pepper hummus, green onions, spinach and tomato slices. On the side I enjoyed a sliced green pepper.
Purdy darn tasty!
Camera Woes
As you may remember, I’ve been having some issues with my Canon PowerShot S90, my all-time favorite point-and-shoot camera.
After taking it to a camera shop where they said it would be more expensive to fix than to replace, I sent it to Canon’s repair service center, as my camera is still under warranty.
Last week I received an email, informing me that there was $170 worth of repairs needed.
Um, no thank you.
I called the company, argued my point (it’s under warranty) and the nice woman agreed to have them repair my camera at no cost.
Hooray!
And then I got a second email.
Water damage was found. Water damage is not covered under warranty.
Sadly the ol’ bag of rice trick doesn’t cure everything, my friends. 🙁
I’ve been making due with my wonderful SLR camera, but a big ol’ camera isn’t practical to bring a lot of places. It is a fantastic camera, but it’s been a pain to use a big old hunker to capture pictures on hikes, at New Year’s parties, etc. I’m anxious to have my lil’ guy back!
I will now be scouring the internet for deals and coupons to replace my beloved Canon PowerShot S90. I hear they now make a PowerShot S95… anyone used this bad boy?
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
oh no! i’m so sorry that happened…at least you tried the bag of rice trick though 🙂 i have no idea about point and shoot cameras, or canon, but nikon…love that!
Ellen @ Cinnamonalicious says
Fujifilm finepiz are awesome point and shoot cameras 🙂
I love hummus in sandwiches! Today for lunch I had a wrap with tuna, red pepper hummus, red peppers and romaine 🙂 YUM!
Ellen @ Cinnamonalicious says
*finepix, oops!
Hope says
Sorry to hear about your camera problems. 🙁 I have a Sony Cybershot camera..and I haven’t had any problems with it. I really like it. Yummy sandwich!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Aw bummer about the camera!!! Hope you can find a new p&s soon!
Jemma @ Celery and Cupcakes says
Oh no! Sorry to hear about the camera problems. I hope you get it all sorted soon!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Sorry about the camera. That stinks. I want a smaller camera to take around with me since all I have is a big one. I will be reading to find out what you think of yours! I love eggs with hummus! They really are the perfect combination!
Kristy @ KristyRuns says
That stinks! I use a Canon SX210 IS and I love it. Easy to carry and [I think] nice photos.
Molly says
ok so i’m not sure about the difference, but I have a Canon PowerShot SD1200 … I’m not sure if that would work, but it has 10 MegaPixels, and is definitely small enough to tote around 🙂
Kim says
Julie, I use a Canon G10 Powershot. It’s a little bulker than small point and shoot but it’s a lot smaller than an SLR. 🙂 I love it! It’s like a nice fancy camera in a small body. Won’t lie…it’s pricey but worth the buy. Here’s some info: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Powershot-G10-Digital-Stabilized/dp/B001G5ZTPY
Salah (My Healthiest LIfestyle) says
That stinks about your camera girl!!!
Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says
Shame that the bag of rice trick didn’t work! Thought that was foolproof!
My parents have the S90 (at least, I think it’s that one!) and they love it! They take it with them everywhere! 😛
Sara says
I’ve had several different versions of the Sony Cybershot and have really liked those. Also, if you need a super cute bag to haul your larger camera around in, check out Jo Totes. (http://jototes.com) I found these recently and am in love, but don’t have one yet.
Stephanie says
I’m right with ya. My huge camera is quite the heavy and akward haul for certain things I want to take pictures of. I’m researching the handhelds now. I’ll be interested to see what you end up with.
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
what is WITH cameras lately?
sadly, mine has run away, and I haven’t seen sight of it in weeks. I’ve been making do with my horrible camera phone. if you find an awesome deal, be sure to let me know, cause I’m really struggling without one!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
P.S., my old camera was the sony cybershot (Sara’s comment reminded me), and I looooved it.
Carrie says
oh gosh im sorry about the camera!! i take my photos on my phone- ahah! its easier since I always carry it around.. i love the egg hummus combo thang you got goin’ on there!
Ashley from Texas says
You should check Target’s daily deals. I frequently see them put cameras as “today’s deal” and sometimes they’re 30-40% off with free shipping.
carlee says
do you eat your egg white cold??
Sorry bout’ the camera! Mine is just about to kick the bucket soon i tell ya!
erica says
i have a panasonic lumix, and i hate it. 🙁

Katie says

If you’re looking for a way to snag a good deal on a camera (or any other electronics for that matter) then I would suggest Gizmodo.
Everyday at 3:00pm (I think? Maybe 4:00pm) they release the “Gadget Deals of the Day.” They have a list of serious markdowns of cameras, tvs, computers, etc.
They also have free stuff (called “Hobomoto” how hilarious is that?) Anyway, I’d suggest checking it out. Here’s the link to today’s Deals:

Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Awwe boo about your camera. 🙁 Lately, I’ve been buying the extended warranty on my cameras that cover just about *everything* that can possibly happen besides fire or theft. It comes in handy sometimes.
ellie says
I have the Canon PowerShow SD1300 IS – The Digital Elph and I love it! It wasn’t very expensive and takes great pictures and has a decently fast shutter speed for a point and shoot. The pictures aren’t as great as my DSLR – but very good for a small camera. It also has a large viewing screen on the back which I really like. I agree with you – I hate taking my big camera everywhere – it’s too heavy!
ellie says
Oops, that was supposed to be PowerShot – not PowerShow
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Ugh that’s stinky 🙁 I’ve never used a Canon Point and Shoot, but I have to say that I don’t love my Panasonic Lumix. So….if you’re in the market for a new one and you love Canons, stick with those!
Jena says
Bummer about your camera. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my camera, and I have a gift card to office depot (yes, strange place for a GC but my boss gave it to me after my car was broken into to replace the garmin that was stolen– i got a great deal on a garmin for black friday from staples so i still have the GC).. anyways, Office Depot has some point-and-shoot cameras on sale right now. They have some instant rebates going on. There are quite a few cameras. Just a heads up.
I’m still trying to convince my H that I need a little better camera as my anniversary present (our 2yr anni is Feb 7th!)
Terri says
I have a Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS Elph like Ellie’s and I love it too! I got a great deal on Amazon and got a package with battery charger, extra battery, extra memory card and a jump drive convertor all with the camera for under $200. Better than that is the quality of photos I take. At times my shots can compare to my mom’s DSLR camera. I love it!
Shannon @ Philadelphia Phitness Pharmacy says
I’m looking for a little camera too! Mine broke so I’ve been using my slightly larger and more bulky one. Keep us posted on any good finds you have. The best bet for deals is always amazon!
McKenzie says
I have the Canon Powershot DS750 and LOVE it. It has amazing extras and is nice & tiny. It’s great for all occasions when SLRs are a little bulky to carry.
Maryann says
Ugh water damage is the worst…thats why my phone couldn’t be replaced a while back. And they always know!
Alicia says
I have the Canon S95. I love it!!! I just got back from vacation in Israel and Egypt (I bought the camera for my vacay). The S95 took a lot of amazing pictures.
Betsy Ray says
My good old (and I do mean ooold) Olympus just broke, so you post couldn’t have come at better time! Definitely going camera shopping this week…
Jessica says
Oh my gosh….I have to tell you – we just got a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS 14.1 MP Digital Camera and I’m obsessed with it. It’s small and light but works just as wonderfully as the nice big professional camera my boyfriend used to lug around. Now if we’re going somewhere and we know we want good quality pictures, he feels comfortable leaving the backpack at home and tossing this little guy into my purse. You should really take a look into it, I couldn’t believe quality of the pictures…especially for a little digital. PS….one of my favorite things about it? No wires for the charger…it’s just a little box with a plug on the back of it. Pop the battery in, plug it into the wall and you’re good to go! Oh Canon……you stole a little piece of my heart haha
Laurel says
If you want to check out Sam’s Club’s website for cameras I can go with you and you can get one there…they have really inexpensive warranties. I once dropped my camera one week after buying it and I brought it in to the store…they went in the back and handed me a new one…no questions asked. I think their warranty is like $15 for 3 years or something crazy.
Carly says
The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH 14.1 MP is awesome! Not to mention it comes in fabulous colors like orange and pink. It takes pictures that look like they came from an SLR, in my opinion. I even blogged about my short but sweet experience with it:
http://cookingwithcarly.wordpress.com/2011/01/07/back-in-business-recipe-asian-turkey-burgers/
AND it’s on sale for $180 at Best Buy!
Marla says
Hi Julie – I was just wondering what kind of camera you ended up purchasing and how you like it?
Thanks!
