For good measure, I made sure to enjoy a couple of cream cheese fingers during the process. 😉
The cream cheese used in today’s meal is my new favorite cream cheese spread.
Philadelphia spinach artichoke, baby! It reminds me so much of spinach artichoke dip and I just adore it.
(And no, I haven’t tried Trader Joe’s new peanut butter cream cheese. We don’t have a TJ’s around me. It’s sad.)
Along with the cream cheese, I topped my bagel with fresh zucchini slices and served it with a side of carrot slices and Greek yogurt with jelly.
I remember hearing some people claim that carrots are kind of sweet a couple of years ago. I would roll my eyes at them and think they were total loonies, but now I kind of get it. Maybe eating other vegetables makes you realize that some veggies actually do have a sweetness to them? Broccoli + Asparagus = Not sweet. Carrots + Corn = Sweet!
All in all, this was a great lunch!
Cats vs. Dogs
Longtime PBF readers (love you guys!) may remember when I posted about my office’s participation in Jezebel’s version of March Madness: Cake vs. Pie last year.
Well, it’s that time of the year again and the competition category is another age-old battle.
Late this morning, my coworkers and I filled out our respective brackets (available online here) and will be avidly checking Jezebel to see who clinches the throne on April 5. (I have the golden retriever coming out on top. Shadow from Homeward Bound? I mean, c’mon!)
Our brackets have been posted around the office where everyone can judge and scrutinize each other’s picks. It’s a blast!
Now I ask you the lingering question…
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
I grew up with cats (Tiger, an energetic tabby cat, and Smokey, a seriously psychotic black cat) and I absolutely adore kitties. Ryan and I would have one if it weren’t for my allergies. But, I must say that Sadie has grabbed onto my heart and made me a dog person. She’s so joyous, funny and completely crazy and I kind of love her. 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Haha very cute! I’m definitely more into dogs. We had 3 over the course of my childhood and if you ask me, they’re far more fun than cats! 🙂
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
Sadly, my little heart desires a whole lot more cream cheese than that when I have it around… I tend to go a little nuts with it- YUMM!!
I am 110% a DOG person. It’s probably not a fair fight, though, since cats my my eyes swell shut 🙂
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Dogs, hands down. I love cats and my parents have three, but I definitely prefer the energetic, loving doggy smiles!! They just seem to care about you more 🙂
Jackie @ Baking Charms says
I am definitely a dog person! But some of my friends have cats that are super friendly and act just like dogs… so I love them, too 🙂
janetha @ meals and moves says
Growing up, I was obsessed with cats. As in.. if I got a doll for my birthday I would burst into tears and I had a pet net FULL of stuffed cats and cat EVERYTHING in my room. Now I am more partial to dogs.
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
My childhood cat’s name was Tiger too! I have always loved cats and have 2 now, but would really love to have a dog. It’s not in the cards yet, but I will be scooping one up someday!
Marina says
Carrots are sweet, but actually, broccoli tastes sweet to me too 😀
I am all for cats, but I do love all animals. Veterinarian student over here after all 😀
Ashley P. @ The Vegetable Life says
I grew up with only dogs and love them, but hubby grew up with cats so now we have 2 cats which I adore 🙂 We are planning on getting a puppy this summer too tho!
Lindsey says
I love all animals but have to say cats win over dogs in my books 🙂
Amanda (Eating Up) says
I love the cats vs dog tourney! I made my own bracket on my blog–it’s a breakfast competition!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my gosh, that is too cute! i love waffles, too. 🙂
Sherry says
I prefer dogs. I had both growing up but I am just more of a dog person. I think it might be those puppy dog eyes that grab you or the random kisses just because they are happy to see you!!
Amanda says
I am very biased towards dogs, and specifically my dog. I had one cat growing up and she was a doll, but that was enough for me. I like animals that I can workout with. (I had spinach and artichoke cream cheese on my bagel for lunch, too! Sadly, I didn’t have zucchini, but I did have an apple…very very weird combo.)
Sable @ Squat Like a Lady says
I LOVE cats but if I had to choose just one — a cat or a dog — I’d choose a dog. They have so much personality and I love being active with them — taking them on runs etc!
Katy @ A Healthy Shot of Life says
I had a bagel with cream cheese for lunch also 🙂 I’ll have to try out the spinach/artichoke, it looks tasty!
I’m definitely a dog person, but until I have my own place I have a cat. Can’t wait to get a puppy/running buddy the second I move out!! 🙂
Claire says
Wait…you love Sadie??! 😉 Just joking…I, too, am I dog person, mostly because I fell head over heels for my current pup.
Maryann (The Balanced Bean) says
Im neutral. I dont have either, but I guess I would have to go with dogs because they would be fun to take on walks 🙂
Karis (Karis' Kitchen) says
Cats are definitely my favorite, although I don’t mind small cat-size dogs 🙂 My cats are always super happy to see me when I get home, yet they never tackle me, nor drool on me the way that dogs sometimes do. Although my one cat has been licking my eyelids when I’m sleeping. It’s a very weird, warm, wet sensation to wake up to, so if he keeps it up I may become a (small) dog person after all 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my gosh, that’s too funny. i think your cat is a dog trapped in a cat’s body. 🙂
Marit says
My cat licks my eyelids too! He always does it in the morning because he knows I will wake up and give him food :). I do like both cats and dogs, but have always had a soft spot for kitties because I feel like they are so misunderstood. A lot of people meet a mean one and think all cats are like that, or think they are all stuck up because they met one cat that was. It’s not true!!! My cat is very sweet, cuddly, loving, and always sticks by my side. He knows who his mama is 🙂
Danica says
I’m definitely a dog person-they’re so much more fun, plus I always get the feeling from cats that they think they’re too good to do anything with you, right? : )
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
I love both cats and dogs — but I’m more of a dog person.
Jason is allergic to both so we will never have one 🙁 But we have plenty of friends and family with pets so I get my fix often enough!
Hope says
I seriously need to try that Spinach and Artichoke cream cheese! It looks very tasty!
I am a total dog person! I find them to be more affectionate and more willing to play with you.
mary (sisters running the kitchen) says
i love Dogs! I was never much of a cat person. My family had a cat when I was really little but ever since then we have had 3 dogs! Dogs are so friendly, energetic, and loving! I actually don’t think I could ever live without one!
karen says
hahaha! i get judged for cream cheese usage too, and believe me, mine is way thicker than that! i hate when people comment on my food/appetite! like, thanks, i really wanted your opinion on the matter!
i’ve had (mostly) cats all my life, but i’m getting a dog as soon as i have a house. i just know i’m gonna be such a dog person!!
Linda says
I’m such a dog person. Hubby loves most animals. I can’t wait to get a bigger place so we can have a cat or a dog.
Gavi @ Gavi Gets Going! says
Dogs all the way! I love the cuddly, friendly, outgoing nature of dogs. In fact, my spirit animal is a golden retriever! Do you have/believe in spirit animals?
Dana says
Most definitely pooches 😀
Carla @ I Run, You Run says
I’m a dog person, but I love my cat to bits (he waits for me at the door, cuddles with me on the couch, greets everyone that comes in, sleeps next to me on the bed…).
But to be honest, I love ALL animals. How can you choose? I’d totally have a zoo if I had the space (and was legal!)
Jess@atasteofconfidence says
I’m definitely a dog person. I don’t mind cats, but I just get more companionship from doggies:)
Anna @ History Running Girl says
I love both equally I think! I do love my cats. They greet me at the door and want to be held as soon as I get odd of the shower (so weird). I want a dog as soon as I can!
Kristen says
We have had our cat (tiger as well!) for about 14 years. And I never really liked dogs (the jumping, and the licking!!! haha) But now ever since we got our pup riley- I am a changed women.
(I have a picture of him here! and I love hiM!)

Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I grew up with 4 cats….so I guess I am a cat person 🙂 Love carrots….MMMM!!
Brooke says
Dogs, hands down. I don’t mind cats too much, but I don’t think that I would ever own one. I have a lab and I think that I love her more than some people love their children. I am seriously concerned that when I have kids of my own I might not love them as much as my dog. Is that bad? 🙂
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
Definitely a dog person! We had to put my dog down last year but I’m dying to get a new one. Hopefully one I can run with!
kristy @ kristyruns says
Dogs! But I hope the warewolf wins. 😉
Ali (Student On A Health Craze) says
I work in a cat sanctuary, so it’s probably pretty obvious which I prefer 😉
I adore dogs too, though, particularly Border Collies and Labs. I’ve got a Collie, and he’s the biggest softie ever, my cats all treat him like the head of their ‘pack’.
Haleigh says
I used to think that I hated cats, but I fell in love with my dad’s cat a few years ago. Although I still wouldn’t want one of my own. I had been dying to be a dog owner for the last few years, and I finally got my own toy poodle puppy in January 🙂 I love taking her on long walks every day.
Angela says
That cream cheese looks SO good!! I need to try it! Also, I love dogs, and I would love to have one…but I’m allergic. 🙁 Maybe we’ll get a cat, but it’s not the same.
Heather (Heather's dish) says
No shame in the cream cheese fingers! I’d be slathering it on right beside you 🙂
Amelia says
Can I send you a TJ’s care package with their pumpkin cream cheese? Oh, SO good! Wait…how would I send fridge goods? Hmmm…I’ll work on that. 🙂 The peanut butter cream cheese sounds fantastic!
I feel at heart I’m a dog person but never having owned one I’m not quite sure. I have a cat and love her bunches but I’m looking forward to the day when I can rescue a dog of my own!
Annie says
Totally a dog person, although I’ve owned cats that are pretty top notch. Our cat Pablo (orange tabby) is so aptly nicknamed Pablo Escobar, as he is the head honcho of the neighborhood. Cats and dogs alike fear Pablo when he comes sauntering by. He just has the greatest personality, no one can help but love his little sauciness. He’s probably the only cat I’ll ever like owning…my mom’s other cat is a huge priss and acts so spoiled and entitled it drives me crazy. I’ll take my dogs large and playful… like my big german shepherd Rex 😀 120lbs of pure lovin!
peanutbutterfingers says
he sounds like a riot!
Annie says
truly he is…we thought he was going to pass away during the christmas holiday (he is 15..!!), he was really ill and super lethargic, it was really heartbreaking to see him lose so much weight…. but after a few weeks he miraculously recovered and was back to ruling his kingdom once again! he put back on all the weight he lost so he looked healthy again, and is just as good as new.
…love that cat, hahah.
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
hahaha!
I am and always will be a dog person. however, I could see how some cats have an appeal. dogs are just so loving and adorable, how could you NOT love ’em?
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
I definitely prefer dogs to cats. I was never really a dog lover either until I got two of my own. Funny how that works!
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I love the Cats vs. Dogs bracket – that is so fun! I grew up having cats as pets – never dogs. But I think my husband and I will be getting dogs in the future – he’s allergic to cats!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
I love cream cheese too! Yum.
Lindz @ Happy or Hungry? says
I have always had cats! I love kitties 🙂 My mom used to have this really annoying Shih Tzu that always had copious amounts of grease around her eyes and it really turned me off, sadly. However, I think I’m ready to get my first dog (big dog, not a Shih Tzu, sorry to Shih Tzu lovers…), so I’m hoping to turn this around!
The cats vs. dog debate is always an interesting one!
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
I love dogs! I’m so terribly allergic to cats that I can’t imagine liking them 🙁
Becca says
Love dogs! I have an english bulldog who is the sweetest ball of fat! Can’t imagine life without a dog! This read this article this morning and it applies to you more than me (my dog gets winded eating!) but the dog looks like Sadie! http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/14/forget-the-treadmill-get-a-dog/?ref=health.
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, it’s a vizsla!!
Emily says
cats scare the *beeeep* outta me!
Kayla (Little Miss Healthify) says
I’ve only ever had a dog, and I’m allergic to cats! So I am deff a dog person, I just love my puppers so much, it’s kind of insane. 🙂
Christina @ Food.Fun.Fabulous says
It’s so hard for me to choose because I love them both! I have a wonderful kitty and doggy at home, I couldn’t pick just one 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Never heard of that cream cheese flavor, it sounds amazing!
We don’t have a TJ’s nearby, either. Our closest one is 75 miles away, but I still go when I can. 🙂
I love all animals. Partial to kitties, we have 4 of them! 🙂
