Hello, hello!
How are you guys doing today? Things have been a little hectic this morning, but in a good way! I’m currently blogging from the Jacksonville airport as I wait to board my flight to Boston for the Runner’s World Heartbreak Hill race weekend. I will be staying in a dorm room on the Boston College campus with some of my blogging buddies and I’m ready to get the fun started!
I drove to Jacksonville yesterday to spend the evening at my parents’ place so we could celebrate my dad’s birthday together!
Happy 61st birthday to my fabulous father!
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we put together his 60th birthday surprise. If you’re looking for a gift for a milestone birthday, definitely check out this post: 60 Reasons Why You’re Loved. My dad loved that gift and I’ve heard from a handful of blog readers who have created something similar for their parents or significant others who were also very moved. Plus, it’s a lot of fun to put together!
To celebrate my dad’s birthday, we went for a long walk on the beach before enjoying a delicious dinner that included fresh grouper my dad got on a recent dive trip.
Plus cupcakes, ice cream and presents!
During dinner, we sipped on a bottle of cabernet.
I liked it a lot!
Workout
This morning I set my alarm for 5:45 a.m. so I could get a quick workout in before a day of travel. I always feel better if I can work out before traveling since I know I’ll be sitting all day. Even though today’s sweat session was rather short, it was worth it!
And waking up early enough to catch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean is a pretty fabulous way to start the day.
Moving right along to today’s edition of the 10 Day You Challenge…
We’ve made it to “Three Films,” so today I thought I’d share three movies that will be released this this summer that I can’t wait to see. (Well, one is coming out in September, but it’s before the first day of fall, so that counts!)
- Jersey Boys (June 20)
I am so psyched for this movie! My mom, sister and I saw the musical earlier this year and ever since then, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the movie version of the Broadway hit! I think the previews look pretty good, but even if the movie isn’t fantastic, I know it will be filled with lots of great music!
- The Fault in Our Stars (June 6)
I reviewed this book on the blog last year and adored the writing. I loved that the book wasn’t glossy, cliché and full of fluff. It was raw and emotional and I hope the movie can capture the book in a way that feels authentic and moving.
- The Maze Runner (September 19)
I know Ryan and I will be hitting up this movie together! We read the book together when we were on a dystopian novel spree and thought it was great. Action packed and intense! I hope the movie does it justice!
Questions of the Morning
- What movie(s) are you excited to see this year?
- What was the last great movie you saw in the theatre?
Happy birthday to your dad!!!
I live in Boston, looks like a decent weekend weather wise! Hope you enjoy it!
I love that peanut butter cups were a part of your dad’s big birthday celebration. That guy knows what’s good! 🙂 YUM!
I’m actually looking forward to the movie How to Train Your Dragon part 2! I saw the first one, and it was fantastic. Great for kids and grown ups! My husband just had shoulder surgery, so I have a feeling a trip out to a movie theater will be a good date night for us! 🙂
How to Train Your Dragon was so cute!
Happy Bday to your dad. I am very surprised you liked Woodbridge that much! It is like $4 a bottle at 7-eleven! It gives me the worst hangover!
I’m a cheap date I guess! 🙂
Have so much fun in Boston! I went for the marathon and absolutely loved it. I cant wait for the chance to go back.
Ok — Not to freak you out but hopefully for a giggle. I just read on buzz feed, a totally reliable source, that there is a foot tickler on the loose in Boston. http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell/a-serial-tickler-is-breaking-into-boston-homes-and-terrorizi
I love that Robert Mondavi wine, one of my faves! And those cupcakes looked yummy!
I went to BC…let us know which dorm you stay in!
Mondavi is always a nice, drinkable wine. have fun in Boston! sounds like a blast.
i like that you did 3 movies you want to see rather than 3 of your faves (that was a tough one for me actually!). i can’t wait to see Jersey Boys and Fault in Our Stars too — just finished the book last week and my best friend and i are going next week. so stoked.
My husband and I both enjoy the films that are up for best Foreign Film each year. I always look them up and get the DVDs out from the library. Recently we saw The Great Beauty and The Past…both were very good!!
Happy birthday to your dad!! That picture of the sunrise is just gorgeous!! Ah! I saw the preview for The Fault in Our Stars and couldn’t remember where I had heard about it from, but now I remember, your blog!! It looks like such a great movie! I definitely really want to see it. But I am a sucker for fairytales and am going to go have a movie date with my mom and see Maleficent 🙂
I am not sure you’re a marvel comics fan, but XMEN is definitely worth seeing in the movies! SUCH a good movie! And I’m looking forward to 22 Jump Street. Comedies, ftw! 😀
So glad to hear you got to celebrate your dad and his special day! What a beautiful view you had this morning! Safe travels … can’t wait to hear about your fun adventures!
I would love to see The Maze Runner and A Fault in Our Stars too. But, I’m still trying to catch up on movies that came out a year ago that I’ve been wanting to see. Ha! Cody and I used to go to movies all the time, but that quickly changed when little Hunter came along. Fortunately we have an endless supply of free babysitters now that we’re in AZ, so we can take them up on that this summer to see some movies!
Have so much fun in Boston! I toured BC when I was considering colleges and loved the campus. And Happy Birthday to your dad! My dad is 61 too. He said it’s a great year! 😀
That sunrise is beautiful! I’m also so so so excited to see the Fault in Our Stars! I loved his book Looking for Alaska and I’m really looking forward to this (even though I know it’s going to be a crier, eek).
I honestly don’t even know what movies are coming out! I don’t really plan to see movies– I usually just end up there and pick something out. The last time that didn’t work out so well though… we ended up watching a movie I REALLY didn’t like and my boyfriend and I almost walked out halfway through! Though I’ve still never done that–it seems like it would be such a waste of money! But then sitting through a deplorable movie is sort of a waste of time… oh well.
I want to see Maleficent and Sin City. 🙂
The last great movie I saw was Captain America. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and wouldn’t mind seeing it again in the theatre. Chris Evans is pretty easy on the eyes. 😉
Peanut butter cups for birthday? What a fab idea! That is what i want when mine comes around this year. That picture of the sunrise is absolutely gorgeous!
Happy Birthday, Bob! Safe travels on your trip. xo
Those first two are on my list too!! LOVED the Jersey Boys play!
Have fun this weekend at the race and with friends! And happy birthday to your dad! I am going to check out that gift you mentioned.
I live in Boston and I will be in the 10k race this Saturday too!
I hope I can see you and your blogger friends during the events.
It is raining right now but it should clear up by the weekend.
I always enjoy reading your blog although it is my first time leaving a comment.
Anyway, good luck with your race and Happy Birthday to your dad!
Hope to see you, too!!
I just went to the drive-in this past weekend and saw Godzilla and X-Men. This was clearly at the request of my boyfriend lol. But both were pretty good actually!
That Robert Mondavi cabernet is one of my FAVORITES! I still think the most recent REALLY good movie I saw was the second Hunger Games.
Those look like red velvet cupcakes-my fave (esp paired with red wine!!). I’m going to see A Million Ways to Die in the West this weekend. It looks really funny!
They were red velvet! So yummy!
I am so totally excited to see Jersey Boys too! I saw a musical with my family earlier in the year and have been excited ever since too !
I still want to see “The Other Woman” with Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann! It’s been out a while but I haven’t had a chance to check it out. Sometimes I really can’t justify paying $10+ to go see a movie in the theater when I can wait a few months and rent it for $1 haha I’m cheap!
I can’t wait to see A Fault in Our Stars. I’m also really looking forward to “If I Stay,” which is another great and easy read!
If you’re a fan of disney movies I would suggest maleficent!! It is SO GOOD! Saw it with my roommate premier night and already have another date to see it again 🙂
I was anxiously expecting Maleficent, and I have to say that I really liked it!! Even when Jolie lost her accent a couple of times, I found the twist very suitable and not cliche!!
Your dad and mine share a birthday, cute.
And every man loves peanut butter. Like every. single. one.
And hates coconut……………Riiiiight!!!!!!!
No way, I went to BC!! Do you know what dorm you’ll be staying in? I think you’ll love the campus, it’s really beautiful and I do miss it. You probably won’t have time with the race, but check out Bapst Library if you get a chance. It is a gorgeous library that was actually ranked as one of the world’s most beautiful college libraries. I was there not too long ago for my reunion 🙂 If you get hungry for late night eats, check out Pino’s Pizza in Cleveland Circle down the street from campus. THE BEST!
Ha! I love your enthusiasm! I’m not sure which dorms we will be in but I’ll definitely include the name/photos in my recap. And thanks so much for the recs!
A Mondavi Cab?!? You can’t go wrong!
There is a movie coming out called Serena, featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. I love those two together, but I have to read the book first!
Enjoy the run this weekend! I went to Boston College and hope that you have a great visit!
I’m going through a dystopian novel kick right now–what else did you read?
Julie! Since you are in Boston this weekend, you might just want to check out Cafe 472 in Kenmore (Fenway Area) for your delivery ice cream fix that you blogged about before! 🙂 Boston weather is looking beautiful this weekend….and of course I am going to Cape Cod where it will be cooler, ha!
Thanks for the recommendation, Amber! I’ll be on the lookout!
Happy birthday to your dad!!
Last year I also saw the Jersey Boys musical and loved it! I think I would probably like the musical more than the movie since I prefer live performances.
Yay have lots of fun in Boston!! I go to BC and lived in Walsh Hall with 7 roommates this year– not exactly the most beautiful dorm accommodations, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I hope you love Boston/ BC as much as I do! If you have time, head to Deluxe Station diner in Newton for brunch– so delicious! The restaurant is made out of an old train station.
The last movie I saw in theaters was Hunger Games– SO GOOD!
I don’t know when it’s coming out, but I recently saw a preview for ‘Gone Girl’ that I’m anxiously awaiting. I read it after your review and loved it!!
I can’t wait to see the Maze Runner! I loved the book (and I think I was directed to it from your blog in fact!).
The three movies you listed are my top three, plus Maleficent because I am a huge Sleeping Beauty fan. The last great movie I saw was Dallas Buyers Club.
I know it isn’t coming out until the fall, but I finally started/finished Gone Girl. We listened to it in the car on a road trip so now my husband wants to see that movie with me.
I also want to see Jersey Boys.
I also want to see Fault in Our Stars…didn’t read the book though. I’ve heard its a little sad…and sad books stay in my mind too long. I don’t need to be moping lol
But happy birthday to your dad!
Sunrise and sunset are 2 of my favorite times of the day. What a gorgeous view! And Happy Birthday to your dad! It looks like it was a fun time. Safe travels!
I’m excited to see The Maze Runner as well. I am interested to see how they portray it.
Hope you enjoy your time in Boston, it’s supposed to be beautiful.
I’m doing the five and dime too! I feel like such a dork getting excited that the a bunch of the bloggers I follow are coming to run the same race that I am in my home town.
I go to Boston College!! I just sent you an email with some tips for Heartbreak Hill and some other fun things! I wish I could be there this weekend, but say hi to BC for me 🙂 Good luck, and have so much fun!!
Welcome to rainy Boston! Luckily it looks like it’s going to be a gorgeous weekend! I’m running the hat trick this weekend. I’ll keep an eye out for you! Enjoy your time here! 🙂
I hope I get to meet you at the Heartbreak Hill festival. I am doing my first 10k! Enjoy BC and checkout the seaport district of Boston if you have time!
I feel like the only person on the planet who didn’t love The Fault in our Stars. I don’t know why. I just didn’t.. I’m hoping that for once I’ll like the movie better than the book.
I’m going to see Maleficent TOMORROW and I’m so excited. Also can’t wait for Gone Girl in October 🙂
