Last night as I was prepping overnight oats for breakfast, I made two separate batches… one with bananas and one without.
Though Ryan and I both like bananas in our overnight oats, Ryan is really funny about the texture of bananas and adds a banana to his overnight oats in the morning to combat the “mush factor.”
I, on the other hand, like adding bananas to the mix the night before so the oats really take on the flavor of the fruit.
In the morning I simply stir the oats up and swipe some of Ryan’s fresh banana slices to garnish my bowl for even more banana flare.
(Can you see me in the spoon’s reflection in my hot pink bathrobe? It’s Where’s Waldo: PBF Edition.)
Today’s overnight oats included the following:
- 2/3 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 tablespoons chia seeds
- 1/3 cup milk
- 6 ounces plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 banana, sliced
Mmm!
Cell Phone Ring Tones
Earlier this week, I was out and about running a quick errand after dinner when my cell phone rang. I didn’t think anything of it until a man near me started cracking up.
“Mambo Number Five? Really?” he laughed.
Ah!
When I first got my phone last year, I set the ringtone to Mambo Number Five to mess with Ryan because he owns (not owned… owns) the Lou Bega CD and swears it is awesome which I find incredibly hilarious.
I never changed the ring tone and Mambo Number Five has blared in several embarrassing environments throughout the past year. (The only person who has a different ring tone on my phone is Ryan. His is set to the first dance song from our wedding.)
I’m sure I’ll change my ring tone eventually, but Mambo Number Five is a surprisingly catchy ring tone and very distinguishable from other cell phone ring tones in public!
I know I can’t be the only one out there with a random and slightly embarrassing ring tone…
Questions of the Morning
- What is your cell phone ring tone?
- What’s the best cell phone ring tone you’ve ever heard?
I remember Ryan’s cousin set his cell phone ring tone to the Laguna Beach theme song in college as a joke which cracked me up. Even now whenever I hear Hilary Duff sing “Let the raaaain fall down and wake my dreams…” I cannot help but laugh.
Hope says
Haha, that is too funny with Mambo #5 as your ringtone! My ringtone right now is “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. I’ve been wanting to change it but for some reason my ringtone app is not working lately. I’m getting sick of it. I usually change my ringtone every couple of months.
Megan says
My husband changed his ringtone to ‘Sexy & I Know It’ when I call him. He happened to be with my parents when I called to meet up with them – and his phone was not on silent. Needless to say, he was a little embarrassed (although it was more due to my brother than my parents) and the ringtone was quickly changed 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
hahah! i love it!
there was a girl in one of my classes who had her boyfriend’s ring tone set to “let’s get it on.” it went off in the middle of class and was amazing. 🙂
Laura says
Hahahah that’s hilarious. Not a ring tone, but my alarm on my phone used to be “Here Comes the Sun,” by the Beatles. Now whenever I hear that happy little opening I want to throw something at a wall 🙂 NEVER make a favorite song a ring tone. It will forever be ruined!
Heather says
I looooooooooooooooooove that song, and it will now be in my head all day! THANKS 🙂
Dione says
I personally like “Mambo Number 5″…and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it:) My ring tone is just an actual office phone sound….I’ve never been a fan of ring tones. I like my phone to just sound like a phone.
Sara says
I had Hello by Lionel Richie for awhile. It made me giggle.
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
that’s hilarious.
krista says
How funny, love that!
“Hello? Is it me you’re looking for?”
peanutbutterfingers says
That is awesome! I had a friend who had “Call On Me” as his ring tone and I thought that was so creative.
Nicole says
My best friend had that song play at the beginning of her voicemail!! It was hysterical.
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
right now i just have a generic ringtone, but my husband has party rock anthem. seriously?!
i’m totally opposite of ryan… i love the mush factor!!
Heidi says
I have the drum sounding one from my iPhone. Kinda boring hey? 🙂
Emily says
I’m so hesitant about ring tones! The ones I’ve had in the past, I’ve always ended up haaaaaating the song after a while just because I’d get so sick of the short, iffy quality version on my phone. So there goes using all the songs I like! But I guess that’s why a heinous song like Mambo #5 would be good, who cares if you can’t bare to hear it anymore?!
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
I had a buddy who set her ring alarm to be “Crazy” by Gnarles (sp?) Barkley (also sp?). It was, without question, the worst way to wake up ever.
Heather says
On, Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin school song, of course. I also have a DMB, Ben Folds, Elton John, and Chicago song on my blackberry and I rotate them. [though it’s mostly on silent, so it doesnt matter TOO much 😉 .]
Sabrina @ Coffee With Sabrina says
Ha!! I have the FSU War Chant as my ringtone.
I heard someone at Downtown Disney yesterday with I Like Big Butts. My boyfriend and I started laughing then singing along. 🙂
heather says
Mine is everyday by rascal flatts for my husband and young and beautiful by carrie Underwood for eveveryone eelse. Your post reminded me its ttime to change ringtones for Christmas!
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
This woman in my office has the most annoying ring tone EVERRRRR and it’s always on as loud as possible. I couldn’t even tell you the name of the song because it’s in spanish!!!!!!
meg says
Mambo #5 would make a great ringtone! I never thought of that song. For YEARS (like highschool all the way to med school) I had Jagged Edge “Where da party at” (yes I was always that white girl driving with her windows down and rap blaring in a VOLVO haha). But I thought the song was appropriate because people usually call you to make plans….hence where da party at. Anyways, after lots of ridicule by my roommate in med school I finally changed it – now it is B.o.B’s “I’ve got the magic in me.” I like it and it seems to have gotten less ridicule so far… =)
Sarah says
My ringtone is In the belly of a whale from the Newsboys which was from the Veggietales Jonah ( no comment). Funniest i heard is me best friends brothers tone which is a person with an amazingly obnoxious voice saying “ring ring ring,,,,,, RING RING RING” SO funny, but annoying!
Kathleen @ Ocean Full of Lemons says
Yeah I’m definitely saving my money and just have a generic one from Verizon on my phone. But on my old phone I used to have Get Right by JLo and 1 Thing by Amerie (love those songs even if they are like 10 years old!).
Courtney says
For a while in high school my ring tone was “This is why I’m hot.” Super obnoxious haha! The best I’ve heard was my friend’s dad’s. It started playing ‘Back Seat Driver’ and we could not stop laughing.
Kat @ Balance & Spice says
That’s hilarious. When I first got my iphone, I spent hours setting each person’s ringtone to something different – it was great, for about 2 days, until the phone inevitably reset itself, and all ring-tonage was lost. After that, I’m perfectly happy with the same ring tone for all. Except for my boyfriend, who has “Yellow” by ColdPlay. 🙂
Katie says
The office manager at my job got a new phone a few months ago. She’s not very tech savvy and she’s very prim and proper. So, her son set her ring tone to a long, loud burp. And she can’t figure out how to change it! Of course none of us help her–it’s hilarious!
peanutbutterfingers says
LOL!!!
Debbie says
That is awesome! haha
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says
Haha too funny! I Switch between songs, but my current rotation is the Sex & The City Theme, Benny & The Jets, Cherry Pie (Warrant!), and American Girl (Tom Petty) I think those are some of my favs!
Danielle @ dish'n'dash says
Total nerd alert: My ring tone (for most people) is the theme from the show the West Wing.
For a couple friends I use the Brownie Song from the movie Reefer Madness. Definitely is catchy and gets quite a bit of attention!
Oh overnight oats – how I miss thee. I currently can’t eat oatmeal and am missing it so very much!
Destiny says
The only special ring tone I have is for my husband. He once recorded himself singing I Just Called to Say I Love You and then sent to me via text message. I’m sure he didn’t expect I’d save it as a ring tone. But now, when he calls he sings to me!
Franzi says
That’s so awesome!!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I have mine on silent or vibrate 99% of the time so haven’t purchased any ringtones for my newest phone, but my favorite ringtone was “Superhero”, the Entourage theme song. I was obsessed with that show in college!
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
Um my ringtone is the Harry Potter theme song. Everyone laughs at me but I LOVE it!!
Sara @ The Foodie Diaries says
My ringtone used to be “Blame It On The Alcohol” until one day in class I forgot to put my phone on silent and it started blaring. Oh and did I mention that it was in my Psych class and we were learning about the damaging affects alcohol can have on the body… Oops! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
perfect timing! 😀
Janine @ThePurpleGiraffe says
Haha, that’s great!
My ringtone is the Mario Brothers’ Theme song… it’s epic. And my text notification is the “1-up” noise from Mario as well. My husband has the Zelda theme as his ringtone, haha, we’re huge nerds. We had a Nintendo themed wedding, for cryin’ out loud!
heather says
this is the greatest thing ive ever read. NO LIE.
JN says
Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti & Spearhead. Makes me smile every time I hear it. 🙂
Summer says
Mine used to be Kings of Leon’s “Sex On Fire”, which I LOVED… until it went off in church. Whoops
peanutbutterfingers says
ahh! too funny!
Julie @ There and Back Again says
My ringtone is the Arrested Development theme (without words)! I love it because it’s not that distracting out in public but always makes me think of Gob going “COME ON!” ….if you haven’t seen that show, you gotta start now 🙂
Blake says
My boyfriend has a very unique, but awesome ringtone… it’s Andy’s ringtone from The Office (the episode where Jim hides his phone in the ceiling). Andy is singing Rockin’ Robin a capella and it’s hilarious to see someone’s reaction when they hear it and recognize the reference.
Brooke says
Ah mine is the Harry Pitter theme song. I’m pretty sure everyone (that recognizes it) thinks I’m the biggest nerd ever.
jaci says
ahahahaha.
my mom could never hear her phone when I called, so I customized a ring tone that said “MOM IT’S JACI. ANSWER YOUR PHONE” every time I called. She l oved it. People, on the other hand, thought she was a nut-ball.
peanutbutterfingers says
HA! my friends shold do that for me. i am TERRIBLE with my phone.
Diana says
THAT IS HILARIOUS! I should have that too, I am the worst with phones.
jaci says
it totally worked because even if you can’t turn the volume up to where you can hear it, you can scream recording it.
Nicole says
My ringtone is set to a recording of my dog barking. It used to be Promiscuous Girl, but that was sending the wrong message. I think most ringtones suck so it doesn’t really matter what you set it to.
The Kidless Kronicles
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
haha, I love having songs as ringtones. Mambo #5 is funny, it would kill me if I heard that in public.
I used to have Flock of Seagulls – I Ran as my ringtone, back in the day before smartphones and before you could have actual SONGS as ringtones…it was just the music.
My current ringtone is Barbra Streisand by Duck Sauce, haha. It’s been my ringtone for a year, and it still makes me laugh every time I hear it (it’s rare because I usually have my phone on vibrate)
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’m pretty sure Mambo #5 will be in my head now for the rest of the day. I’ve never had an interesting ring tone but now I kind of want one!
Liz says
I like to change my cell ring tone up fairly often. Right now it’s Good Life by OneRepublic. Probably my favorite ever was Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys at Christmas time 😉
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
OMG I used to LOVE Mambo #5!!! Right now my ringtone is one of the classic iPhone ones, but I really should change it to something more fun. (And PS I always notice myself in the spoons in my photos.. it annoys me, but I doubt most people notice!)
Melissa says
YES!!! Mambo #5 has been my ringtone forever and everyone laughs, but it’s the BEST! It’s totally my JAM!!
peanutbutterfingers says
twins!!!
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I heard the first time in forever on the radio this week. I probably got some weird looks from neighboring cars as I was jamming out. I still haven’t put a personalized ringtone on my iPhone I have had for 3 months. My favorite one I ever had was trans Siberian orchestra for Christmas.
O'Shady says
My ringtone is the Benny Hill theme song (“Yakity Sax”) which always gets somebody laughing whenever it goes off in public. But it’s so loud and obnoxious so I really have to be careful about silencing it in certain situations! My alarm is the Rocky theme, which I thought would really pump me up in the morning but somehow I always manage to sleep through it while it wakes up everyone else in the house – oops!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Hahaa. That is awesome!!
I had a ring tone that was a Rihanna song and one time it went off during Anatomy class-SO embarrasing! Haha.
dana a. says
i have set my ringtone different for a few of my closest people who call me. i have ‘a pocket full of sunshine’ for my grandma, ‘a man with an indian accent’ for my sister because she always talks like that and the ‘friday night theme song’ for all the others.
i love the ones where you can customize it with your childs voice saying ‘mom, pick up’. those are the best!
Mischa says
I love your blog… but lately, your blog posts have been a little dull. There was just no substance to this post: you and Ryan put bananas in your breakfast at different times, and you have a random ringtone. I understand that your blog is about your life and your life can’t always been interesting, but that doesn’t mean you have to come up with something to talk about. It comes off as forced. I guess it is just extra disappointing because I seriously love your blog!! And you! But this is just my (current) opinion.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Haha that is anamazing ringtone! I lovelove Mambo #5 😀
Catriona says
HA that’s so funny!! That song reminds me of middle school dances when we all tried to do that dance.
“Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound, put your hand on the ground
Take one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hand once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then you are doing it right”
My ringtone is the regular iPhone “marimba” tone…except for when my bf calls and then it’s “Super Bass” hahaha
Emily says
I love ringtones, I have different ringtones for my mom and my boyfriend. My boyfriend’s is “Brown Eyed Girl” because he calls me his brown eyed girl:)
Channeling Contessa says
It’s so funny you mention that album! I distinctly remember it. Ryan is spot on- it’s SO GOOD!!
Kelly says
I am so boring…my ring tone is just a plain ring. And I have never ever had a ring tone other than just ringing phone. I am just a plain jane I guess.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
My husband is a cop. When he calls “Bad Boys” the theme song from “Cops” plays. People probably think my husband is a shirtless, mullet sporting, drunkard.
Amanda @ Justamandaj says
Love that song! Throwback to Jr high 🙂 My ringtone for my Husband is Bad Romance and everyone else just random tone from the phone. I’ve been pretty lazy in the ring tone department.
