As a child I never really ate cereal for breakfast. My sister was the cereal queen. I preferred Eggo waffles, oatmeal, Toaster Strudels (oh baby!) and cinnamon toast.
Nowadays I find myself oddly excited by cereal for breakfast. Ryan and I never really have cereal in our home because it’s not something Ryan really cares for and I have the ability to take down an entire box in one sitting. Yes, I have “cereal issues.”
My parents, however, have a great selection of cereal in their pantry and I get all too excited about combining various cereals into one bowl for breakfast or a mid-morning snack.
This morning’s combo included Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Frosted Mini Wheats and Honey Bunches of Oats.
And you know I refilled that bowl two more times. Cereal is so addicting!
The rest of the morning will be spent working and digesting until I feel like I can get my booty to the gym for a brief workout. I’d love to take Sadie for a run outside, but I’m afraid I might have missed my weather window since it’s already 83 degrees.
Happy Friday!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I don’t buy cereal because I’ll eat the whole box in a day. Self control much? Nope, not here 🙂
But I love when I get to visit someone with cereal… it’s such an addicting treat!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Cereal is absolutely a love of mine– and my problem is that I don’t ONLY find it acceptable for breakfast 😀
Breakfast, lunch & dinner are all acceptable in my book
Bee Goes Bananas says
I have the cereal issue as well! Casey and I have at least 5 boxes on the go at once. I also love combining cereals. It’s the best!
Taylor @ Crumbs Don't Count says
Toaster strudels used to make me SO frustrated because if you stuck them in the toaster once, the inside stayed frozen. If you sent them through the toaster TWICE then the corners got black. I guess as a kid I never thought of defrosting them in the microwave first.
The goo inside them always burned the roof of my mouth too…guess I was impatient?
Khushboo says
Girl I feel you- I am just the same….which is why I rarely eat dangerous- one bowl is never enough! Dry or moistened with milk/yogurt, I can inhale a box without even trying!
Kelly says
I love cereal too. I grew up the cereal queen in my house. I still maintain that the best part about living in the dorm and being on the meal plan was the cereal buffet that was available every day. I mean talk about dreams come true.
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
Did you know my father invented toaster strudel?
Poor Sadie baby, she gets so cranky when you keep her from the run!
Girl in the pink says
Are you serious?!
peanutbutterfingers says
really!?! if you’re serious, than you must give your father a big hug from me. they’re delicious!
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
For the record, I sometimes forget that not everyone religiously watches/memorizes Mean Girls like it’s a part-time job. Really, I was just pretending I was Gretchen Wieners. Apparently, that rich girl is heiress to the streudel fortune.
mary @ food and fun on the run says
Today’s picture of Sadie is hilarious. Definitely made me laugh!
I love cereal too! I tend to bring it for lunch time alot and snack!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Oh girl, I TOTALLY have cereal issues too! It’s not usually in our home for the same exact reasons… hubby doesn’t really like it, and I will eat an entire box in one sitting. Haha. Every once in awhile I’ll buy a box if it’s on sale, but that’s rare. Good choice on the combo this morning! 🙂
Danielle says
Yumm! Those are like the top three best cereals, great combo! I had a cereal creation for lunch two days ago, it was fantastic!
Brittany says
Toaster Strudels were my favorite growing up – although I hated the fact that they never cooked properly. To get them completely warm on the inside the outside had to get pretty toasty, aka brunt. Maybe it was just my toaster oven or maybe I was too impatient.
I have cereal issues as well. One bowl is never enough.
Happy Friday!
peanutbutterfingers says
YES. i had the same problem. still, i sucked it up and made them anyway… and would often use two frosting packs for ONE toaster strudel.
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I will kill a cereal box if you put it in front of me. I don’t like to keep it in the house because not only will I eat it all but it doesn’t actually fill me up (that’s why the many bowls!).
Sadie is such a good motivator!
Cheryl says
For some reason I was never really into cereal… or breakfast food. I used to eat the oddest things for breakfast as a kid like twice baked potatoes… who does that?
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Buying the expensive cereal prevents the cereal binge for me (i.e. the good Gluten-free kind). Don’t want to shell out 6 dollars for one snack.
peanutbutterfingers says
that’s actually a great idea! i’d like to think it would work for me…
Cait's Plate says
My problem with cereal for breakfast is that it never holds me over! I love it (especially mixing it – and your mix looks awesome) but I always find myself hungry 2 hours later. I LOVE it as a late night snack though! 🙂
krista says
Our LOW right now is 86, so 83 would feel like perfect running weather to me! Good ol’ Texas. When it ‘dropped’ to 95 for one day, 2 weeks ago, I was so excited to get to run after work. I think it’s all relative, because if it hit 95 in May or something I would have deemed it way too hot to run yet after being 111 for 2 months it feels so much cooler! Crazy huh?
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
LOL! I love your Sadie quote today! I too am a bit cereal obsessive, especially when there are so many choices! I used to be all about the Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops as a kid (who wasn’t??) but now, it’s Kashi and Nature’s Path that make my heart sing!
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
I used to love toaster strudel!! Yum.
I eat cereal every morning. I’m cant sacrifice precious sleep to get up earlier to make breakfast so cereal it is!
Hope says
I LOVE cereal! I don’t think in my entire life I have ever had a bowl of just one type of cereal. I always mix my cereals to have variety! I usually eat cereal almost every morning for breakfast. I’m addicted! 🙂
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I never ate cereal as a kid either, I would beg my mom to buy me it in the supermarket and it would just sit in the pantry and go bad. Now, I’m cereal obsessed. I have 6 different kinds in the pantry and eat it for breakfast at least twice a week. I’m addicted to Kashi!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Cereal never lasts me very long unless it’s Kashi GoLean. Sadie’s got quite the expression today!
Nicole says
I understand about the weather window, being in NC.
I never really thought about combining different kinds of cereal in one bowl, but I am thinking cocoa puffs and captain crunch would be killer!

Julie – I have a hard time with snacks. I think I snack too much and more often than i should. Could you do a “healthy snack” blog post that does not include yogurt 🙂 I have been looking for one and I feel that when I read fitness blogs they mainly talk about just the meals and not the snacks. Thanks!
peanutbutterfingers says
sure! i’ve been meaning to do this for the LONGEST time.
janiek says
Oh shepalli i know exactly how you feel! I would love a post like that too!
Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles says
I used to be a cereal FIEND!! I loved Frosted Mini Wheats the most. My mom still has them at her house but they’re totally not vegan so I steer clear. Plus, if I did eat them I’d surely take down the whole box!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
We also don’t have much cereal in the house — it isn’t safe around either of us!
Last night I helped my dad clean out the attic and as my “pay” I took baggies of each type of cereal they had 🙂 My parents are huge cereal lovers and keep tons of boxes around.
Rebecca says
Yummy…cereal. I love it. But I usually have to eat it as a snack because it just does NOT fill me up :/ I’ve actually taken to eating it with a banana-PB smoothie instead of milk just to add some satiety.
Emmarie @ BananasAnd Beer says
I’m the same way with cereal, but apparently we are not alone in our struggle.
I like to make cereal bars with my favorite cereals and bring them places, like dessert, that way they portioned out, and I won’t eat all of them. (though I could)
Katie @ Nutrition in a peanut shell says
Toaster Strudel, aw man. Always hot on the inside, and frozen in the middle. I didn’t care. Especially when they came out with the Boston Cream (Vanilla cream middle, chocolate frosting) and Strawberries and cream (Strawberry middle, cream cheese frosting)!
But I have a cereal addiction too. Corn Pops are where it’s aaaat. Oh and Cinnamon Toast Crunch 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
how did i miss the boston cream flavor!?
Katie @ Nutrition in a peanut shell says
Well the earliest review I can find for them is ’08, so they’re new…ish?

Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Oh. My. God. I want to eat that cereal mix right now!!! I have some SERIOUS cereal issues! Which is why I can’t buy any good tasting cereal! Currently I have TJ’s Bran Flakes… which I still find myself eating out of the box. I LOVE going home because my little brother always has Captain Crunch. Not my top choice, but still completely delicious. I can’t get enough of it! Now all I can think about is cereal…
Hillary says
Cereal (with the exception of Kashi) never fills me up, so I usually don’t ever eat it! Like you, I could go through an entire box with no problem.
Brittany *Sparkles* says
Cereal is too addicting… when I learned what a serving size of cereal was I cried myself to sleep LOL.
Funniest thing I’ve heard though – my best friend is pregnant and was craving a second *large* bowl of cereal.. she took a poll on what thoughts were regarding how much cereal one should be allowed to eat and my favorite reply was ‘I believe it’s two bowls per seating sweetheart… so get up and switch seats!’
Sweet and Savvy says
Cereal is seriously the most addicting thing ever! I can’t keep it In the house.
Faith @ For the Health of It says
Girl you are so not the only one with cereal issues…I went through my last box in two days. I spent a while not keeping it in the house but I just love it too much!
Jessica says
I am the SAME. My senior year of high school I developed an addiction and now I can never have it in the apartment! It doesn’t keep me full in the morning and I’ll eat the entire thing in the afternoon!
PS- Less than a week till move in!! I am moving into a new apartment for college and I move Sept. 1st as well so I am counting down with ya!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I don’t have cereal in my house regurarly….I just don’t ever get around to them before they go bad & don’t have the space in my TEEENY TINY kitchen. This makes me want some though!
Shanna, Like Banana says
I hear ya girl…I can’t keep it in the house. BUT the hubby loves it so he has 3 boxes are so at any time. It takes a great deal of strength to NOT stick my hand in the box on a daily basis.
Holly says
Honey Bunches of Oats is my TOTAL downfall. I cannot buy it because the box will be gone in 2 days. Between eating bowls of it & then eating handfuls- oh boy, I’m in love with that cereal!
Alex Rawlin says
Agreed! Cereal servings should be measured by the kilogram not by the gram.
But at least you have self control with granola, even when your recipe says 4-6 servings I eat it all in one go!
peanutbutterfingers says
ha! i most definitely do NOT have self control around granola. just b/c i SAY thay make 4-6 servings doesn’t mean i stop at one serving. 🙂
Jen from The Paper Pod says
cereal is amazing on top of a scoop of ice cream! I’d be taking full advantage of your parents selection and make some serious sundaes 🙂
RunEatRepeat says
I call myself a “Cereal Killer” because I kill a box in one sitting.
Now that I think about it, that’s not something I should tell everyone…
peanutbutterfingers says
i remember i ate a box of froot loops in college in one day and it affected my… um… bowels. i called my mom (a nurse) because it freaked me out! colored turds!? that’s just not normal.
Steph @ StephSnacks says
I get the same way about cereal! In fact, I just purchased a big tub of granola to keep at my desk, which might have been the best and worst decision ever!
Beth (Well I'll Be) says
I’m fairly certain I could take out a whole box of cereal as well. We rarely buy it for that exact reason, I think that’s all I would eat!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is glorious!
Brooke @ Veggie Table says
I read your blog every day but rarely comment; however, I wanted to share with you that the last picture of Sadie made me choke on my coffee – hyyyyylarious!!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I go through phases with cereal, sometimes I eat it for weeks at a time, other times I completly forget about it 🙂
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
There is this great restaurant called “cereality” that does a crazy cereal+toppings+milks bar. It’s heaven.
peanutbutterfingers says
i need to go there!
Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) says
I love Sadie’s motivational words… 😉
Lindsey says
I hated cereal as a kid – my breaky of choice was always PB toast! My husband loves cereal so we always have it around and this past year I have started to crave it every once in awhile too, I love mixing cereals – and think it makes the cereal bowl complete!
Mallory @ It's Only Life, After All says
honey bunches is my all-time fav!! i have been known to eat a while box of that stuff in one sitting!
Maria@La_Piattini says
Cinnamon Toast Crunch is my favorite and is crazy addicting! I think I went through a box once in 3 days. Then I looked and saw the box had 11 serving. I went and hid in the corner. I kid I kid it was delicious!
