I used last night’s BBQ meatloaf in a yummy sandwich today.
Meatloaf may be one of those meals that’s better the second time around. So flavorful!
Along with the meatloaf sandwich, which I enjoyed on a whole wheat Arnold sandwich thin with light Miracle Whip and spinach, I snacked on freshly sliced green pepper.
To me, raw peppers taste like summer! They’re good eatin’.
Dessert
Dessert was ah-maze-ing, thanks to Foodie Friday!
One of my coworkers prepared white chocolate covered strawberries with citrus sugar.
- I love strawberries
- I love chocolate
- I love citrus
- I love sugar
Clearly I was a happy camper!
Lovin’ the Enthusiasm
I’m so glad you guys are so enthusiastic about the Monterey Pasta Company giveaway I blogged about this morning.
Naturally I want PBF readers to be excited about any giveaway, but this one made me particularly happy because I think there are so many people out there who avoid pasta or are scared of eating it because it is high in carbohydrates.
Food is your friend! Pasta and other carb-heavy whole grain foods can be a delicious and nutritious part of a healthy diet. Don’t fear the noodle! 😀
This Weekend
I am loving the lack of major plans this weekend. A relatively clear agenda makes me happy!
Friday:
- Happy hour after work
Saturday:
- 6 mile run (First “long run” of my half-marathon training plan!)
- Mail out remaining save the dates
- Visit bridal boutique to finalize bridesmaid dress selection
- Date night with Ryan
Sunday:
- Church
- Lay out by the pool with Laurel
- Farmer’s Market
We’re also thinking about registering for our wedding this weekend!!!
If you are married, where did you register? (Please share good/bad experiences!)
If you’re not married, where would you want to register?
Jessica @ How Sweet says
We registered at Sur La Table and and Pottery Barn … hahah it was an interesting experience. My husband thought he’d enjoy it but was miserable a few minutes in, so I called up the women in my family and we had a blast. 😉
Heather says
we registered at bed, bath, and beyond and target…i think the biggest thing is to find out what their return policies are on things since they could have changed since we got married, but BBB was the best, and Target was really hard to work with.
I would also recommend Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel…their stuff is fabulous and they’re into high-end customer service 🙂
Sarah Jayne says
Meatloaf sandwiches were ALWAYS my favorite part about meatloaf growing up! I also ALWAYS smothered mine in ketchup. Ohh some things never change 🙂
Those strawberries look ridiculous! Can I please come work where you work!?
I am not married yet and am very afraid of the craziness that would ensue were I to attempt the registry process. I would probably want to register at crate & barrel, or williams sonoma, or just bed bath and beyond- anywhere I can go to stock my kitchen! Towels & blankets & bed linens…what? Nahhh. Just give me the foodie goods!
thebakingbride says
One place I would definitely recommend is Bed Bath & Beyond if you have one near you. They will take back anything even without a gift receipt and you can find so much fun stuff there.
Jess says
we registered at macy’s and crate and barrel … love the stuff at crate and barrel! my husband (also named Ryan) stayed pretty involved during the whole registering process. he didn’t want to end up with random stuff in our smallish apartment.
peanutbutterfingers says
ryan’s are HOT! 😀
Kelly says
We registered at Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate & Barrel and Home Depot. haha…don’t laugh but needed lawn tools!!! haha!
Katie @ Health for the Whole Self says
We registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Target. Honestly, I don’t think our Target registry was really worth it. I wanted to register at Crate & Barrel, but the store didn’t have a location near many of our guests. Although I guess most people buy stuff online nowadays anyway.
JunieB says
Would it be OK to register at my local running store? hee hee…
Corie says
We registered at Macy’s and Target. Macy’s has a great policy where they take a percentage of everything people bought off your registry and mail you a gift card for the total after you get married. The sales associate told me she hadn’t seen a gift card for less than $200 – which is awesome! The staff at Macy’s was really friendly and personable which I really liked.
Target staff was not as great but the one good thing they have is that anything that you registered for and did not get, you receive 20% off of in the future. We’re getting married in 8 days (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so I might just slip a tv on the registry here in the next few days just to get the 20% off in a few weeks when we go to buy it for our new place!
Hope this helps : )
peanutbutterfingers says
congrats!!! almost one week away! 🙂
Heather says
We registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond (their return policy is fabulous), Dilliards, and Target. I had no complaints with any of them!
Frugal 'n' Fit! says
I was living in an apartment at the time so we only registered for the basic necessities. We hoped that people would get the message that we didn’t need “stuff” so much as we needed money! Kind of crass, I know, but it worked!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
Sounds like a super fun weekend to me! I’m not married, but if we’re dreaming big, I’d register @ Williams Sonoma, Crate + Barrel, and you can never go wrong with Target! : ) What kind of things do you need? How long have you two lived together?
peanutbutterfingers says
we’ve lived together for 2+ years… we REALLY need a couch! 🙂 can you register for that??? 😉
Babs says
the sugar on the strawberry looks amazing! i just made the pb truffles you wrote about last week. i didn’t have pretzels, so i used saltines. and i decided to add a bit of health to them with chia seeds and hemp seeds. the suckers are tasty little bombs of pb goodness. def a dessert only a pb lover would enjoy 🙂 good thing i love pb 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
good lord woman! those sound amazing!
Laura says
i’m getting married next year so have been looking into this. Have heard great things about BBB and Macy’s but poor things about Target which stinks b/c I love shopping there haha i’m not sure which we’ll do yet. Williams & sonoma seems like it has nice “fancy” things to splurge on!
Kate says
We registered at Macy’s and Bed Bath & Beyond. Macy’s worked well offering a myriad of things. Some guests may have a Macy’s credit card and receive extra discounts off your items (a happy guest = good!). BBB is Great for returns and will actually give you cash and not just store credit. I’ve heard horror stories about Target registries. Unless your guest included a gift receipt you won’t be able to return anything even if it’s clearly on your registry. I’ve personally had shipping issues with Target, but love the store. I go twice a week, so I’m trying to totally bash them. Make sure you vary your item price points for all guests to select from 🙂 Also, make sure a fair amount of your wishes are offered in store since some people aren’t keen on paying extra for shipping. That’s my 2 cents!
Kate says
meant to say I’m NOT trying to totally bash Target. Eek!
Tracey @ TropicalHappiness says
We registered at Bloomingdale’s, Crate & Barrel & Williams Sonoma. I love love love Bloomingdale’s- they were SO INCREDIBLY helpful and friendly during the whole process. At one point, the towels we received started getting marks on them from the detergent- they took them all back (they had already been used/washed) with no questions asked. Also, after your wedding date, you get 10% off everything for the next 6 months. You could go in as many times as you liked. I really liked this, because we didn’t have to commit to one huge, large purchase. C&B also offers the 10% discount, but you can only use it one time within the 6 months. So we waited for about 5 months and then went in and made one big purchase.
Also, at Bloomie’s, I would go in to buy things, and the associates would tell me about upcoming sales. They would package up all my stuff, take my credit card info or gift card info, and then just hold my items unti the following week (when the sale ran). And I’d get 20% or 25% off, instead of my regular 10%. This was awesome, and it wasn’t like they made me come back in and do all mys hopping again. I just had to go in and pick up my stuff (already wrapped and bagged) after the start of the sale. They were GREAT to work with.
A tip- put all of your pots on the registry as separate items. Not many people wnat to buy you a $300 or $400 set of pots. But people will buy the individual pots. Then, don’t use them and return all of your pots so you can buy the whole set. It sounds odd but people will be more likely to buy individual pots, but you can get more bang for your buck if you purchase the set with the credit you got for the indiv pots.
Also, if you really want a couch, have your parents/bridesmaids spread the word that you are saving up for a couch and would love cash. You can’t ask for it, but I know a TON of people asked my parents and my husband’s parents if we wanted cash or something off the registry. We told them to say cash, so that we could just get what we wanted.
C&B’s registry was good, except you only got the discount once.
Williams-Sonoma was very expensive, so we just registered for a few random items.
I’ve heard Target is a pain, and Bed Bath & Beyond is supposedly pretty good.
Sheesh, this is long… sorry!
Diana says
Hi Julie! You and your fiance are beyond adorable and you remind me a lot of my husband and me. we met Soph year in college and got engaged right after graduation. Anyway, we registered at many places (most local to NYC) but the best experience by far was at Williams-Sonoma. Not only is their stuff amazing and high quality, but their customer service is unbeatable and their wrapping is so gorgeous. All of our guests loved getting us stuff from there and it was definitely the most popular registry we had. My husband and I love to cook and that store is foodie heaven – enjoy! xo

What a beautiful strawberry :).
I haven’t done the marriage thing yet, so I don’t have any advice. But good luck with it all 🙂
Amy Lynn says
hi! I am getting married in September, and I registered at good ole Bed Bath and Beyond and Target! BB&B is awesome for people b/c of the 20% coupons they have around literally everywhere. plus they have everything you can think of and they are reasonably priced. good luck!! I love your blog btw! I am new 😉
Joey says
We registered at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Target, & Macy’s. My favorite to work with by far was BBB. They were great about everything and even if a particular item didn’t come from their store, as long as they carried it, they would go out of their way to at least give store credit. Target, on the other hand, was an absolute nightmare to work with. No returns, even for store credit, without a gift receipt. Not everyone gives you the gift receipt! I would highly suggest staying away from Target, unless you just want gift cards from there! 🙂 Macy’s was middle of the road… Not too bad but not great!

Hi Julie — as a fellow pet lover, you might like this one…my husband and I registered at the Humane Society (no, not so we could get tons of pets as gifts) but for donations 🙂 It was awesome! Our friends donated securely online and then we were sent a card with a special note. We ‘raised’ nearly $2000 for the Humane Socieety in honor of our wedding.
But we also registered at Macy’s for those that like to give a more traditional gift. 😉
Lynzy (From Skirts to Skillets) says
I have been meaning to tell you that I have made that BBQ Meatloaf recipe twice in about two weeks. My BF and I are obsessed 🙂
tuesdayswithangela says
My husband (also a Ryan!) and I registered at Crate & Barrel, Target, and online at Amazon for all of the hard-to-find little things. We went into BB&B, but the sales people there were so pushy and overwhelming that we ended up deleting our registry from BB&B as soon as we got home from registering at the store. I know a lot of people really like registering there, and they have nice products, but we just had a bad experience. Hopefully it was a one-off situation! Crate & Barrel was great—beautiful products, and all really high-quality. Target and Amazon were easy for people and between the three places, we could find everything we needed.
emily says
i’m newly engaged and we are just starting the process of planning. but we have already started ‘browsing’ for stuff we want.. lol. We will do Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond and one more place.. probably Macy’s. People like having a lot of options and you don’t want your stuff to run out and end up getting crap you didn’t want in the first place!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
That strawberry looks fantastic!
We registered at Target & Macy’s…really liked the rewards program through Macy’s!
We also registered through Liberty Travel, which was GREAT!!! We went to St. Lucia on our honeymoon and booked it through Liberty Travel. By adding Liberty Travel to our registries, we were able to create a website with different “gifts” that people could contribute to the honeymoon (airfare, accomodations, candlight dinner, massage, etc.).
What’s really cool, is in the end, we just ended up getting a big check that we could spend on whatever we wanted. But by providing gift ideas, it made it more appealing to guests who were thinking about contributing to the honeymoon, rather than just writing a check. If you’re planning a honeymoon, I would highly recommend considering it! 🙂
Catherine (we cook when we can) says
I’m getting married in September 🙂 We registered at Crate and Barrel, Macy’s and Sears. Crate and Barrel because I love their plates and flatware; Macy’s because their stuff goes on sale often and you get a percentage of everything people bought back as a gift card; and Sears because we’re soon-to-be homeowners and need tools, haha.
I’m new to your blog but already a big fan. I made your flourless PB cookies while visiting my future in-laws last weekend and they were a hit. I eat gluten-free due to an intolerance and LOVE that I can eat these without worrying.
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says
I registered at Macy’s, Crate & Barrel, and http://www.thebigday.com. That site was great. You can make up registry items (a dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack or Scuba diving for two or one ticket to Hawaii) and assign a price. Then, people buy you things. The best part is that you don’t actually get the things on your registry; you get the money your guests spend. So if someone buys you a $100 massage, you don’t have to actually use the massage.
We used the lump sum to pay for our honeymoon. But assigning it to events or things lets people feel like they’re getting you something specific. Through our parents, bridesmaids, and groomsmen, we encouraged all of our guests to do this. I still got a ton of Macy’s and C&B stuff from older folks who aren’t comfortable with the Internet.
Nikki says
I went gift shopping today at Crate&Barrel for someone else’s wedding, and I loved the process! The sales associate printed the whole registry for me, gathered up everything still needed, and I got to sort through everything at once without searching the store. They then immediately updated the registry for anyone else shopping.
Not only is C&B great for you, but it’s really easy for your guests to shop at!
lifewithacrazypup says
I’m definitely making those strawberries this weekend! Annnnd I actually just got engaged on Sunday and (of course) I’m already thinking about where we’ll register. So far… I’m thinking William Sanoma and Bed Bath and Beyond. Happy shopping!
peanutbutterfingers says
ahhhh! congratulations! 😀 😀 😀

I am getting married this September and we are registered at Crate & Barrel and Bed Bath & Beyond. I would highly recommend both due to the great customer service at both locations! Plus it is easy to shop online for gifts at these store in case guests aren’t close to any locations.
Beth says
We registered at Pottery Barn, Target, and Macy’s. All were great but Macy’s stopped selling our dishes online and didn’t tell us so we hardly got any dishes! That was pretty frustrating but alot of people wait until after the wedding to get a gift to see what you need and we ended up finding them at a different place. But it could have been bad if we would have had to pick out different dishes!
Anne @ the doctor takes a wife says
we registered at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond–and loved both!!
Sara says
Williams Sonoma was great to work with. We also registered at Sears for tools and stuff as we had just purchased our first home. We had lots of inside stuff, towels, plates, etc but needed the outside stuff since we had always lived in apartments. REI also has a registry for outdoor gear.
Cat says
We registered at Macys, Target and Williams Sonoma. The worst one in my personal opinion was Target. While I LOVE Target, a lot of the items I registered for became unavailable so my registry didn’t have that many choices at Target. One thing I loved is after my wedding all of the stores mailed me coupons to buy items that were not purchased for me so I could get some of the things I really wanted (Yahoo!) I think Williams and Sonoma was my fav because I love all of the kitchen gadgets that they have!
Didactic Pirate says
Two comments: 1) Every time I see your food pictures, I’m amazed at how you can make healthy stuff look so delicious. 2) My wife and I registered at Crate & Barrel — she wanted a place with items that were nice, yet relatively inexpensive. I just wanted a place that would let us use one of those cool pricing laser guns to shoot products we liked. My wife still says she was “embarrassed” by the way I kept doing tuck-and-rolls across the store, leaping up, pointing the scanner at flatware and saying, “FREEZE SUCKA!”
I don’t know what her problem was.
kbwood says
hmm i would register at whole foods..
hahaha.. totally wish i could do that tho.
cant WAIT TO SEE YOUR WEDDING PICS GIRL! we need to be fb friends so i can see all of them! haha but seriously- i love wedding pics!

We registered at Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, Dillards, and a local china shop in my hometown. It seems like a lot, but we had to do the small town china shop because that’s where everybody there goes whether you’re registered or not. Dillards was for my hubby’s fam and hometown friends because that’s all they have there. It was a bit much, so I’d recommend 2 or 3 places.
Lauren says
We registered at Crate and Barrel, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Target. BB&B was SO EASY to return to, and Crate and Barrel is obviously awesome, so I highly recommend those two.
hlodonnell says
It doesn’t matter where you register. What is really important, is that you let him use the scanner gun. 🙂
Candice says
I registered at Macy’s and Bed Bath and Beyond. I had a good experience with each place. Macy’s sent me some really nice gifts for registering with them. But more important, these were places that were convenient for my guests to shop at location-wise and had things that I wanted. You have to consider what will work best for you.

I would want to register at Crate & Barrel, Williams & Sonoma, and like my parents Royal Dalton (they make gorgeous glass and dinner ware)!! I know lots of kitchen stuff, but I love to have a well stocked kitchen!! 🙂
Sarah says
Don’t register at Target!
Kari says
We registered at BB&B, Target and Dillards. We almost skipped BB&B, but thank goodness we didn’t. It was by far our most used registry. I ended up switching my china from dillards to BB&B because of it. SInce, I have noticed this is a trend with a lot of peoples weddings so I would register at BB&B FOR SURE!
have fun 🙂 Last suggestion—Benjie and I hit target, then outback for appetizers and SEVERAL drinks and then Bed Bath & Beyond. It ended up being a great afternoon 🙂
Scan everything and then edit online later 🙂

We also registered at Bed Bath and Beyond like some fellow commenters. We had a great experience! We also registered at Wal-Mart. Nice cheap prices for everyone!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
You tweeted about that strawberry yesterday and I’ve been waiting to see it all day! Looks so. freaking. good. Not married yet, but I can’t wait to register when I do…kitchen appliances are some of my favorite things to buy in general!
natalie says
AHHH!! I loved registering…I think Ben, my fiance, loved it even more! We registered at Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel and Target. I would definitely suggest registering at Target or some place like it for younger friends who might be looking for a bargain. Another place a lot of people told me they registered was Bed Bath & Beyond. I didn’t because the one near me closed, but apparently they have great sheets. Have soo much fun!!
Barbara says
Bed Bath and Beyond! They have everything! From As Seen On Tv Stuff (I am obsessed with the kitchen appliances) to everything one could want/need.
Target, Williams Sonoma The Bay (Canada) etc. That is such a tough choice! Walmart has everything at decent prices for those who cannot afford much. Macy’s? We don’t have that here in Canada…
Actually, I would register at Amazon or something that has EVERYTHING on line and the prices are great!
Kristen says
my one piece of advice is to give Ryan control of the scanner otherwise you may lose him after 15 minutes lol
